Golden Fleece in Warrington

Had a lovely time today in the golden fleece the ambience was lovely ideal place to go with friends or take that special someone, the staff were lovely and there was one lady with glasses think her name was Adele she was amazing she was very friendly and warm, I think I may ask for her number next time I go see if she is single.

More fool me for not having a lunch. The deal with a drink seems ok at lunch. Asked for a regular Diet Coke - ie small. Guess how much? £3.25 Not 2 - 3. And three pounds isn’t the most. Then there’s an extra quarter of a pound on top. Three pounds of your taxed income plus twenty-five pence for a glass with a lot of ice (wonder why that’s in there???) and some aerated syrup from a tap. Nice pub. Pleasant location. Absolute day;Ishtar robbery, Greene King. Don’t take the proverbial from customers or you won’t have any left. We teetotallers are sick to death of subsidising beer drinkers because of your gross overpricing.

Poor quality food that we sent back and when it came for the second time was only acceptable. No apologies. Over priced. Fleece is the right word it is simply too expensive for the quality it is in our opinion

Just spent my birthday lunch at the Golden Fleece, so glad I did. Warm smiley welcome as we walked through the door which is a must for me. Hot piping delicious food delivered really quickly and a great atmosphere. The prices were excellent! Lovely genuine staff who couldnt be more nice if they tried. Great find for me and will def go back!

A pretty pub in a pretty village, that was also pretty busy. Stopped off for a quick scampi and chips (portion was on the small side) and a pint. Beer garden was nice and we ate al fresco. Nothing to write home about but the ale was well kept.

Nice pub but will not be going back as I got a parking ticket ! Parked in the pubs car park at night, I might have missed the signs but it was at night and it was the pub's car park, so wasn't expecting it to be run by EuroParks! I wasn't told by the bar staff to register my vehicle and didn't notice the place to do that. Got a ticket and then I have had to go through an appeal with EuroParks giving evidence of my visit (I only had two drinks in a pub !). They have removed the fine but this was all too much hassle to go to a pub !

Another lovely little lunch by the canal. Super setting from the garden watching the boats go by. Great service & very good value.

After a trip down the Bridgewater, we came across the pub and decided to give the beer garden a try. Less than nine quid for a tasty wrap, chips and a cool refreshing pint of shandy. Lovely. Would return.

This is a lovely pub, the staff are so welcoming and friendly happy to help and answer any questions. The experience was lovely sat on canalside watching the barges go by, will be recommending to friends and family

A few years since I reviewed this pub and Management has changed. Actually always enjoyed this pub for its location next to the canal, on warm summer days it has a great garden with bench seats overlooking the canal. Very good selection of beers and we took our grand kids there for lunch which was excellent. OK its good pub grub but overall, happy to recommend this place for drinks, food or both. Great for kids, walkers passing by even the canal boat owners can enjoy the pub!!. Obviously gets busy on warm sunny days and they also have live sports so something for everyone!!. Worth a visit!!!

My husband and I have a busy weekend from 16th to 17th July celebrating birthdays and wedding anniversaries. This year we went out for his birthday on Friday 16th to Mulino in Urmston, see separate review.On our anniversary, we decided to go out for a drink locally to a pub we have visited several times in the past, The Golden Fleece in Lymm, as we were going away to Chester the following week.This started as a good evening but deteriorated luckily after we had eaten.We decided on the Golden Fleece in Lymm which is 10 minutes from home. It was a warm summers evening so we and most of the other punters sat in the beer garden, most were youngsters 18 to 22 and mixed equally between girls and boys.We were sat closest to the youngsters who were a little loud but generally good humoured. Towards the end of the evening most of the families and older patrons had left, when the landlord spoke with the group of lads nearest to our table and warned them about their behaviour and that there had been complaints made.We heard nor saw anything to warrant a complaint other than a waitress took exception to being offered a drink.The landlord was backing his staff and started barring the lads, adding more to the list if they objected or supported their friends. Because he told the lads there had been complaints made, we felt uncomfortable being the only oldies close to them, we told the lads it was nothing to do with us but we still felt uncomfortable.The landlord came back several times barring more of the lads who were understandably unhappy.The final sanction the landlord imposed was to stop the boys and girls from being served.This obvious confrontation spoiled our evening, more so when we saw no evidence of bad behaviour by the young men.We accept landlords and pub staff have a difficult job especially with rowdy drunks, but that was not the case here. There are two sides to every story and that evening the landlord was not for listening, in fact childish insults were uttered behind his back but not loud enough to be heard by him.The situation could have been handled better, the young men were no abusive or threatening to anyone, yes some did swear but only as young people tend to do in their normal conversation with each other.To complete this review we did eat, we both had prawn cocktail and a chicken tikka banquet, they were excellent and good value. Luckily we had eaten before the barring started. The staff we had any dealings with were cheerful and helpful we had to use an app to order but it was not very user friendly, but a member of staff helped us out.Our overall low rating is solely due to the barring of the lads and that we felt uncomfortable being suspected of making the original complaint.

Really good experience. Staff couldn’t have done more to help. Beer garden is gorgeous and can’t wait to return now restrictions have been lifted!

Couldn't fault anything here food, staff, and garden. Even the sun shone for us. They helped us with the voucher we had no fuss

My husband and I went to The Golden fleece for pre-dinner drinks on Saturday. The friendly manager found us the last table in the beer garden as it was a hot day. He also explained that we had to order via an app. Due to problems with the app it took much longer to order drinks than we anticipated. Whilst we were trying to figure out the app, a gang of rowdy drunken lads on the next table, saw fit to comment inappropriately on virtually every woman who walked on to the beer garden. Not great in a family pub ! We decided to leave but I did report this behaviour to the manager who took my complaint seriously and immediately went out to deal with it. Good on the manager for upholding the standards of the pub ! Unfortunately it tarnished our overall experience and to this end, I doubt we'd return.

Great food and really quick, friendly service. Lovely atmosphere in beer garden and for a reasonable price. Will be back there soon.

Lovely lunch yesterday and really reasonably priced. Sat outside overlooking the canal- beautiful . Staff worked extremely hard in the exhausting heat and still managed to smile. We would definitely return.

Really enjoyed my food today! The pulled pork sandwich was lovely and the service was so fast! I especially want to mention and thank Jess who helped me with the green king app. Will definitely be returning soon!

First time visiting. Had a lovely meal, myself and my two children. A warm welcome from the manager, Oliver, made to feel very safe under covid guidelines. Food was delicious and great table service, will definitely be visiting again soon.

Amazing lunch for a family birthday meal. Oliver was amazingly helpful and the food was fantastic. A lovely afternoon had by us all.

Perfect food service even though we had to wait 45 minutes for our food we did not mind as this had been explained at the door. The wait was worth it as when the food arrived it was beautiful. The staff were so friendly and made us feel so comfortable. We will definitely be going back when we ate in the area.

My 2 friends and I have had lunch at fleece. On arrival we were given instructions re nhs track and trace app. After we were seated we were allowed to remove our masks (still can't believe I'm saying that ). I refuse to use a brewery app as I already have enough so a physical person came to the table to take our orders . 2 of us had the chicken and bacon salad and my other friend had the gammon. I have to say it's the best salad I've ever had in a pub!...loads of big pieces of beautiful lean chicken, pieces of streaky bacon, salad greens and nice sized pieces of tomatoes and cucumber....very tasty and definitely something I will have again. The staff are lovely and friendly and we had a laugh with them...thanks for a lovely lunch

Forgot face mask in car, there was a pack of hundreds of face masks on the desk in front of me, picked one up and had a member of staff run over, snatch the mask out of my hand aggressively and asked me to pay £1 for it - when I found I didn’t have cash they shrugged their shoulders - they were very rude when I said I would go back to my car instead to get my mask saying the charge was for charity and that I should pay it - so I ended up paying for it by borrowing money from a friend (they said it was going to charity but no official collection tin). Food average and wrong meal brought out twice.

Visited on a Wednesday lunchtime, greeted and looked after by Oliver who sat us down and explained the new rules. Used the app and was checked back on to make sure we were managing okay. Drinks ordered and served within minutes followed by tasty starters and mains after that. No room for deserts but we had coffees and left feeling safe and full! Overall great experience and will 100% be returning!

Popped in for a quick drink with family. We were able to find a table and had our order taken by a polite blonde girl who got our drinks out quickly will definitely return for a drink and food next time.

Booked for 4 people. Was told we had to order via the App. This meant we would have to pay each time we ordered rather than running up a bill as normal then paying at the end. I asked if I could order and run up a tab and was told we insist you use the app if you have it. I said ok I will delete the app, and was told well we have seen you have it so you have to use it!. When I said we would go to the pub across the road instead I was told they could take open a tab at the till so I did just that. Then I was told go and sit down and I will take you order. I said can't you just take it now and was told oh, ok then..(very strange). When our friends arrived we ordered food. My wife ordered gammon and was offered it with pineapple or 2 eggs. She asked for it with just one egg was told sorry it comes with 2!! 2 of us wanted to order the curry platter. After a while the waitress came back told us they only had a single portion of rice left (in a restaurant that was less than a quarter full on a Monday evening...?). My wife wanted another Prosecco. The drink arrived half full. We checked the measure of the new Prosecco against the previous one (which had a measure line on the glass) and it was about half the amount. I queried the measure and was told it was correct. I asked what size of drink they were selling and was told it was the same as the last one. I asked them to prove it by pouring it into the measure behind the bar...and it proved I was correct....no apology....just another drink of the correct size brought to the table.At the end of the meal 2 of our party wanted coffee, only to be told that the coffee machine was being cleaned (it was only 9:00pm). We asked if there were any other hot drinks perhaps tea? We were served with a single persons small pot of tea which we were then charged for 2 people.I understand mistakes happen, but this was just a bad experience from start to finish.

Lovely meal with exceptional service. Super friendly and offering lots of help with the mobile app, checking if everything is okay and adhering to current rules. Definitely recommend going.

We recently visited this pub for a quiet meal. We had our order taken by James (he told us he was new). He seemed quite nervous but he took our order efficiently and advised us on the ales that were on offer. The food was delivered promptly and was really tasty. This pub takes care to look after customers and it was a lovely visit overall.

Took a chance on a walk in & got a lovely seat overlooking the canal. Friendly welcome all the COVID stuff explained. We had fish & Chips & Chicken salad. Both very good & great value for money. We’ll definitely be back. Keep up the good work.

Visiting with a group of friends for the first time after lockdown. Unfortunately the fleece ran out of lots of drink on the app and for some reason didn’t have the cocktails however a lovely gorgeous man called Oliver suggested he might be able to woo woo and he jumped to our rescue and said he will see if the bar can make one !! To our delight he said they could and he was so friendly and polite !! Everything a manager/ customer service advisor should be :) lovely service from him and he made us feel comfortable and we enjoyed our visit very much !!!

This is our first visit to Lymm and the Golden Fleece.The pub explained the covid restrictions clearly and guided us to a lovely table in their beer garden.2 ladies seemed to be running around trying to look after all customers and make sure everybody was served and happy.Emily is a credit to your establishment and was incredibly pleasant and even though she was wearing a mask you could clearly see her smile although not present.The beer garden was very nice and was certainly appreciated on a day of blue skies & bright sunshine.Our only cririsism seemed to be from the kitchen. We could hear the girls having to apologise to numerous tables for their dissatisfaction with their food, and things missing from their orders. Whilst we were more than happy with our food we did have to remind the waitress that we didn't have our chips.We made a point of seeking out the manager to pass on our compliments regarding Emily and that for her young age she was very professional and curtious.We will definitely be returning in the future.

We are lucky enough to be able to walk to The Fleece. When we returned after the (first!) lockdown there seemed to be an issue with the booking system. This is now resolved. Tonight we were warmly welcomed by friendly staff. Our choice of table was accommodated. The quality of the food was definitely above our expectations. My husband said that his steak was one of the best he’d had-including more expensive restaurants. My lasagne was also excellent. For quality food in a congenial atmosphere I would definitely recommend The Golden Fleece.

Enjoyed an early evening meal last Monday. It was not too busy but the meal was well presented and tasty. Staff were well organised and masked, etc. Given that it was not busy we were allowed to take our time and relax.

We recently went for a family meal. We felt very safe and really enjoyed ourself. Scott was in the door as we arrived took us through all of the COVID stuff track and trace etc. The food was great and really good value for money. We look forward to visiting again soon. Thankyou

Not covid compliant. Went outside to the beer garden. Most of its tables in its sizeable beer garden were littered with dirty glasses, unemptied ashtrays, crisp packets etc.I came in for a drink went to sit outside to find all this. They say they are meant to clean tables before the next customer, this obviously isn`t happening. Let alone the the normal basic hygiene standards. Didn`t stay.There is absolutely no need for this as, as drinks are delivered to your table the staff should clean up when they bring the drinks.Manager needs to sort this out. Will try again next week in the hope that things have changed

Excellent pub, wonderful service. Great food; both the battered halloumi and the chickpea curry were amazing. Lovely view of the canal from the garden. Nice decor inside. The staff were lovely and very welcoming. I will definitely return here next time I’m in the area :)

Called in today after a sunny walk along the canal saw lots of free tables in the beer garden so thought we would have a drink. We entered and asked to sit in the garden but when we said just a drink we were told no room all fully booked!! Very disappointing when there was plenary of room bet if we went tomorrow when everyone back in work would be a different story!!!

Found this today by chance when walking the dog excellent welcome only had tables in the outside smoking area .... lots of families and didn't even see anyone smoking . We only had a snack and drinks both arrived very quickly definitely recomend as did Daisy dog

This is a great little find on a canal boat stop - it’s right by the canal and dog friendly both inside and out. We had a relaxing chilled evening with well priced drinks and great service. The dog loved it so much that when we stopped by again he walked himself from the boat to the pub before we had a chance to tie the boat up! Highly recommended.

Land lady is rude and moody directly to customers including myself and others we observed. Bar staff were rushed off feet whilst land lady sat about entertaining her friends. Those serving tables were polite and friendly and made the visit worth making. The food was good. Shame about the land lady total let down to her fantastic team.

Decided to dine out with the kids on the way home and popped into the Golden Fleece in Lymm. We were welcomed from the moment we walked in and felt comfortable in the surroundings given the new ‘normal’. Very organised and fantastic value for money. The staff are extremely friendly and are working extremely hard. We ended up eating a feast and the quality for the price you pay is excellent. Spoke to the manager John who was great. The kids absolutely loved being centre of attention. Keep up the great work.

What a dreadfully organised establishment. I went for a few drinks whilst visiting family in Lymm, and the bar staff were extremely over run with no management to be seen. Amazing service from everyone on the bar given the circumstances, however those who are in charge need to get their act together if they want their business to succeed. Would not recommend, plenty of other pubs in the area.

Lovely meal today. We were greeted at the door and all the procedures explained fully by a lovely young lady. We decided to sit outside and ordered from the App. Everything was brought to us and the food was very nice. Thanks for making us feel safe.

Visited with my family for a few drinks and some food. There's a good variety of draught beers, gins and wines. Although they are offering a slightly reduced menu at present- there's still a good choice and it really is good food and value for money! I definitely recommend the signature hunters chicken. We were served by Caitlyn and she was excellent. The beer garden is beautiful, with a good view of the canal. AND there's an outside bar but it's just a shame it's only apparently open at weekends. The new team have surely done an amazing job with the reopening. I felt safe and still enjoyed that pub feeling. We will definitely be back.

I was asked to get a table in the beer garden, then I was told to move because they declared the table I choose as a smoking area. Other people were sitting in this table (No 30) before me. I had 2 dogs with me and the staff said I should sit on the bar stools which I found uncomfortable, therefore I proceeded to sit on my chosen table which was declared as a smoking area with my e cigarette. I was again asked to move! I just left the pub and my pint and guess what! The Land Lady occupied this particular table and smoked her head off! Bad service and attitude!

A man named Scott nett us at the door and he was brilliant. Was great service and a great time. Staff are excellent. First pint since lockdown and was one of the best pints I've had

Scott was an absolute delight, as soon as we walked in he made us feel like we were at home, he showed great understanding of the current situation and made the whole visit as relaxing and normal as possible

We visited this pub for lunch today and 'took advantage' of the 2 course Senior's deal.We ordered and paid (including a 'decent tip' for the barman) who was very pleasant and friendly.We had a lengthy wait for our first course to arrive,and with a empty pint glass in front of me,I asked my 'Missus' if she would take a rare trip to the bar to order drinks and our desserts,that we had paid for.We were informed by a grinning buffoon,that I took to be the landlord that we should have ordered our desserts with our mains (we were not made aware of this) and that the computer was effectively saying "NO".And surprise surprise,there was "nothing they could do about it". My 'main' (fish,chips and mushy peas) eventually arrived and I found it interesting,tough grey fish and batter ranging in colour from dark brown to black and 'crispy' mushy peas.Some of the chips would have been more at home in a Casino.Do the brewery/owners read reviews of their 'establishment'.Do they ever road test it? This lovely lovely pub,with a fabulous canal-side beer garden,in a picturesque Cheshire village deserves better from the people who only seem interested in milking it.L.Kinsey

Visited the Golden Fleece yesterday for a family meal it was very busy but staff were all friendly & welcoming. We all enjoyed our food & the atmosphere was great will definitely be returning.

Not been in here for years since moving from Lymm. Ive spent plenty of time in their amazing beer garden over the years. Nipped in after a walk around the dam for some lunch. Before I start.... I didn’t have unrealistic expectations given the price of the food.Both ordered a cheese burger and a pizza for our son. All I can say is it made Wetherspoons look like Michelin starred food. I don’t leave reviews but felt compelled to warn people. The burger was a cheap patty, the ‘loaded fries’ were a joke and the kids pizza is like one of those £1 ones you stick in the microwave, all dough and little topping. I wished I had photographed it to explain quite how bad this was. It wasn’t particularly busy either so not like they have that as an excuse. It strikes me that this place relays on passing trade rather than return customers. To add to this the staff were miserable, even heard the table next to us saying how rude the staff were. I will never be returning to this place ever again or any pub run by this chain. Truly appalling.

I visited the Golden Fleece last night for a meal with my daughter, Not only has the decor changed but so has the management Kim and Andy were so welcoming fantastic atmosphere and wonderful food. Can’t wait to return brilliant family friendly pub exactly what Lymm needs.

Golden Fleece is a very friendly where my family always feel welcome , good atmosphere , food menu has a good selection for all the family ( my kids are very fussy eaters ) , lovely location set on the canal banks perfect for a quick stop during a walk or for leisurely afternoon with a bite to eat . would recommend to anyone who is looking to try a place to eat out .

The Golden Fleece in Lymm has been a favourite pub for many years. Lovely pub in a great location along the canal.I visited the pub over the weekend and would seriously consider going there again.Every table was covered in dirty dishes and tables had not been cleaned and very sticky. The girl doing the cleaning up really couldn't be bothered. Taking one or 2 glasses at a time then having a mobile phone break behind the bar. In the whole couple of hours we were there tables still had not been cleared!The barman very unfriendly, a real effort to serve you. He was much happier on his phone and chatting to friend standing away from the bar.Come on Golden Fleece, get your act together or you are going to lose custom. It was always a pleasure to visit but standards slipping badly.

Worst customer service I’ve ever experienced! I took a drink back explaining it was flat to which the bar tender poured himself a glass and said “ that’s how it tastes” then went on to charge me for another drink, the same member of staff ignored my mum three times. Would not recommend coming here if you’re looking for a friendly service! Asked local diners who’s opinion on that member of staff was “oh he’s always that moody”. Will not be returning here!

Amazing food didnt wait long for it considering it was busy staff was very very friendly and polite will definatley be going again

Nice friendly staff, but could do with more people working on the bar. The food could also do with some improvement. Good pub though, best in the village.

A first visit and found the pub warm and homely. A very nice greeting on the way in and immediate attention from the staff. Comfortable table not crammed in and a clear menu with a good range of food to suit everyone. Ordered and served in good time by truly excellent staff - all nice and smiling and jolly. The food for extremely low prices was excellent. I couldnt find fault with 4 different starters and 4 different mains and 2 sweets. Very good tastes and presentation. Toilets very good and clean. The whole place was spoyless and very well maintained. Most enjoyable. The carpark is chargeable but that is returned if you use the pub. Good idea in a town.

Went a year ago for a meal very slow service despite not being busy staff rude and uninterested. Waited an hour for our meals limp salad steak tough as old boots my chicken was under cooked in the middle so left it didn’t want to wait another hour for it to be sorted and nobody came to check everything was ok with our meals anyway. and you are served about 8 chips so don’t go there if you are hungry. Also a lot of the menu was out of stock

The last time I came to the fleece was a few months ago and nothing we ordered from the menu was available. Thought we would try it again but at 8:33 pm we were told they stopped doing food 3 minutes ago although menus and cutlery were still on all the tables. The pub was full of kids not spending money and we wanted to order a few drinks and food. Not a good way to run a business. Shame as it's in great location.

Just had a roast beef dinner in this pub. Got to say it's the worst roast I have ever tasted. Frozen veg and roasties. Soggy Yorkshire pud and absolutely tasteless. And to top it off the lad behind the bar was as miserable as sin. Do not recommend

The Fleece has always attracted the younger generation, I remember it being very busy on a Friday back in the day. There did seem to be a younger crowd in when we visited and it's a sports pub too. This was fine for us, not as plush as The Spread but no complaints, we kept an eye on the rugby.

Recently visited the Golden Fleece and enjoyed it so much, great value, great atmosphere really friendly staff, the food has vastly improved since kym and Andy have taken over and the chef even stayed later to make me and the family a dessert. Really tasty Would recommend to anyone thanks kym and Andy for a great time!

So we went in about 5.30 and place fairly empty. Not problem, yet the tables we dirty and all the staff we behind the bar chatting with each other! Perfectly nice staff but a bit disappointing atmosphere wise.

What a shocking experience! Won’t be eating here again appalling services, extremely rude barman they definitely need some serious staff training.

Would recommend avoiding this pub. We visited to celebrate my mother in law's birthday following a recommendation, but we were severely disappointed. The food was mediocre and the service poor. A number of things were forgotten such as dips with the starters and not enough plates and serving spoons were provided. At the end of the meal I was unable to get a coffee as they had stopped serving hot drinks. Though this was not the worst of it. What really spoilt the evening was the noise. It was so noisy you could hardly hear yourself think never mind hold a conversation. We had to shout at each other to get ourselves heard.

Great beer garden along the canal to enjoy drinks! Lots of people were eating too but just enjoyed beers and gin! A friend enjoyed her latte too.

Went here for lunch with my partner, The mixed grill was fabulous, and I had steak which was perfect. The staff were lovely and friendly as were all the customers. Many were obviously locals and this would be a perfect meeting place with friends. It is also a dog friendly pub so is ideal for people out walking with their dogs, wanting to stop for a drink. The gardens are lovely, along side the canal, so peaceful watching the canal barges float by. Will be sure to go for another sumptious meal soon.

I’ve lived in Lymm for the last 3 years, and the village has been missing that warm family, social, sports pub.

After a pretty disappointing visit for a while, we returned to a fabulous meal & are back again for a different meal choice . Great food , very fresh & great service , just what the village needs

Me and partner had a nice walk along the canal and visited the pub due to the location. We arrived at 1:45pm peak time and que for the bar was very busy due to Hot Weather. Decided to venture into Lymm from Warrington as a nice day. Staff seemed very preoccupied and gloomy faces. I have been to lymm twice in the last few weeks and used this pub on both occasions. Think I will try other pubs when visiting lymm next time. Oh must be a theme here with Green King pubs as I have noticed other pubs in this chain where staff are reluctant to serve food as well.

Service was very poor - but they were extremely busy. I went to order meal, one of which was Yorkshire Pud roll to be told out of stock so ordered a steak pie for my son and two veggie curries for myself and husband. After about 10 minutes they came back and said they had no rice would chips be OK - advised no and ordered scampi and lasagne. We also bought a bottle of wine and had to ask for wine cooler which meant standing in a queue again at the bar, I did ask the barman who was collecting glasses and he told me I would have to wait in queue as he was picking with the glasses.

Nice pint (Moorhouse) and reasonably priced food (£10.99 for 2 pub favourite main courses). That said, every time we visit, the service is poor. Strange bar design doesn’t help. If truth be told there are better pubs in Lymm and we only go here because wife likes the beer garden. Overall, bang average.

On a short canal boating break and stopped at this pub/restaurant due to it's location beside the canal. We nearly passed it by due to a bad revieve about rude staff ,but thank goodness we didn't !

Come here this evening menus clearly states food is served until 9pm 7.45 bait maid said ‘stoped serving’ who on earth is the manager in this place as the staff are appalling no manners no trainning and terrible service!!!!!!!!!! If I could have given 0 I would have!!!!!!!! NOT HAPPY

Nice pub in centre of village,often go in for a drink.decided order food,had a burger and the gammon.both were really nice, good service, definitely eat there again
