We can't afford to eat out often, but when we do, the Spice of Mull is a real treat. We love their food, and they are always so welcoming and friendly, especially to our young daughter. The only problem is convincing ourselves to try something new on the menu and not ordering the same delicious thing we had last time!

went in for some takeaway chips and straight away smelt a foul smell coming from the toilets, there was stains over their white seats and mushed up food on the floor, we got the chips and left when we went to take the brown chip bag out the white takeaway bag the brown bag ripped from how much oil they had left on the chips, got to eat about 2 chips that were left in the bag after it ripped and they werent cooked but soggy, went back and asked if they could give a replacement (polite) and he started shouting and swearing saying it would be half an hour (chips take 2mins to cook) and that i would have to pay again!!!, stay away!!

After a day of torrential rain, we called in to the Spice of Mull. WOW! A warm and friendly welcome. Then the food, double wow wow, pickle tray, and poppadoms as a delicate starter, nothing unusual for us. Followed by the best Chicken Makhani and Saag Aloo for the wife who doesn't really do spicy hot. I like a medium range spice and chose a gorgeous Duck Tikka Saale dish and Keema rice. Shared a garlic nan....... 😋 fresh cooked food full of eastern flavours. It is one of the best Asian cuisines we have eaten. Enjoy

Best Indian food we have had in a long time! Visiting from the US we wanted some variation on food options and found this food was wonderful. The naan bread was beautifully cooked, all the dishes we ordered-4 different ones- were perfectly spiced and cooked- a true delight! Would definitely return!

Whenever we’re on Mull a meal at Spice of Mull has become a must do. Great Indian food with friendly and welcoming service. Yes, the facilities are plain and simple but don’t let that put you off. The atmosphere is warm and lively, wide selection on the menu, all nicely cooked at good prices.

We felt like an Indian meal whilst on holiday on Mull, and with some trepidation entered here. We were more than pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent, reasonably priced and the service diligent and charming. I would highly recommend - especially as so many other venues in Tobermory require booking in advance.

Read mixed reviews but decided to give it a go and have a takeaway. We were pleasantly surprised how good it was and we really enjoyed it.

We had a delicious meal. The menu was extensive and interesting. Service and toilets were good. Lucky we got in early because the place was packed by 7.30.

Everywhere else was full so we wandered in. One other table had patrons. Our waiter was very friendly. The dishes were not quite what I expected but tasty and large servings.

Found metal scrubbing from washing pad in my dinner,and two hairs. Called up to complain, the man was no help, said there was no one else to speak with, and then told me he doesn't speak English... A very disappointing and disgusting £50 dinner wasted...

We visited the restaurant on a Monday evening. The staff were friendly but the food was disappointing. The toilets were dirty and the whole place needed a good clean.

We were directed to a table next to the kitchen. Sat and watched as they topped up half eaten bowls of sauce. Toilets were howling with carpeted floors. I don’t know how this place has passed any hygiene inspection.

Came into tobermory to be met with sign advertising 3 course lunch for £7.95. On entering the empty restaurant we were advised that the cost was £9.95 and that only Indian food was available from the menu despite it advertising chinese etc. Served by man wearing tracksuit bottoms and manky t-shirt who kept staring at us as we ate. Very off putting. Food was barely edible and we got 2 courses before having the bill flung on the table despite asking for ice cream as our 3rd course. Didn't even have time to place money on the table before it was rudely grabbed from our hands. Toilets are a health hazard and I would not advise anyone to enter this establishment. Rip off on price and false advertising on courses. had to give one star in order to review but deserves none.avoid,avoid avoid!!!

Friendly service and very good food. Asked for extra spicy lamb Naga which was not on the menu. It was superb. Top marks from a hot curry expert.

The restaurant itself is very run down, for instance paint peeling from the walls next to where we were seated. There was splashes of what looked like curry on the wall too. Plates were dirty and chipped. One of our dishes was wrong - we ordered lamb but were given chicken. We spoke to the waiter about this and were greeted with the worst customer service I have ever experienced! He told us that we were wrong and that we had not ordered lamb. This went back and fourth for a while. Eventually he asked what we would like and we kindly asked for it to be swapped to lamb as we had ordered. He responded by saying that this would be a waste of food and was reluctant to do so. Eventually after what felt like forever another server came over and helped amend the situation. The waiter we were previously speaking with continued to laugh and shake his head whilst we were speaking with his colleague. I can honestly say I’ve never felt so uncomfortable. What a disappointing evening - I would not recommend at all.

We came one evening and the service was incredible from the moment we walked in. Food was outstanding.

After struggling to get in anywhere in the Saturday night of our holiday in Mull, I was very happy to come here as I felt like a curry. I asked for something off menu which they were happy to oblige. The food was absolutely delicious and plentiful and the service great. Toilets not so great but that didn’t take away from our experience and I would definitely go back!!

Largest menu I’ve ever seen. But there was not only quantity but quality too. Food was sublime. Customer service was exceptional and friendly. If you’re thinking about coming and are unsure all we have to say is “WHY NOT?” ps best Asian restaurant in the foreseeable universe

Very smart and pleasant restaurant. Customer service good. When our party visited there was only Indian food available. When the Thai and Chinese chefs are in situ they add to the range of dishes available. The food was hot and well cooked. The only downside was the table felt too small for the four of us in the party and only lager type beers available.

The food was great but there are a few problems here. No track and trace, a tiny restaurant with no social distancing measures, tables not cleaned with sanitised spray before the next group sit to eat. Constant stream of people coming into the restaurant to order and collect takeaways - the takeaway customers are basically waiting behind your shoulder usually 3 or 4 at a time. Then there’s the menu and decor - Chinese decor and Chinese dishes on the menu that your not allowed to order. Only 2 members of staff flapping about making mistakes all night. Food was great though.

Spice of Mull serves Indian, Thai, Bangladeshi and Chinese food and has probably the longest menu I've ever seen. For simplicity's sake we decided to stick to Indian and we were not disappointed. Everything was faultless. Service was very swift (perhaps a little TOO quick in fact) and efficient.

We nipped in here for a family meal. Tables were well spaced out and Covid regulations were being adhered to. Good selection of dishes. We all ordered Indian dishes. They do Thai as well apparently and inside it’s confusingly decorated more like a Chinese restaurant. Friendly staff and good service. Food was tasty. Would go again.

Wow what a surprise, great curry, great service. The starter - aloo chat was great, not heavy but very fragrant & extremely tasty - could have had this as a main.We got chicken & spinach plus chick tikka plus chick tikka masala as mains with rice and chapatti - all cooked well & tasted great. The chick tik masala was a bit sweet for me but friends thoroughly enjoyed it. The chick/spin & starter fabulous.It was very busy - Monday evening 6.30pm so you need to book - people waiting outside for a table !What a very enjoyable meal - definitely worth a visit. I’m from Glasgow & we have such a variety of indian restaurants but this place is up there.I may re-visit, after all it’s only Monday..........

Went here for a meal, thought it would be Thai but the Thai chef had gone home, only the Indian chef was there, food was absolutely first class and the service was excellent. Waiters were really friendly, couldn’t do enough for us.

Wide range of dishes (only the Indian dishes were available the night we were there but this was not a problem as there was still a lot). All the flavours were good, and available in varing "heats", Some dishes had too much sauce and vegetabls were mostly overcooked. Funkey decor mixes nationalities and vibes. Wait staff were fairly distant and not too helpful. I would give it another shot.

Plenty of choice, very attentive service and really lovely, tasty Indian meal. very reasonably priced, nice relaxed atmosphere but also covid safe.

Lovely Indian food with attentive staff disappointed that not currently offering Chinese or Thai menu options.

We discovered this restaurant when looking for somewhere to eat on a wet day. We were impressed from the start with good onion bhajis and pickle tray. The lamb tikka garlic was delicious as was the aubergine bhaji and saag poneer. We could understand why it was so popular for eat in and takeaways. The only downside was that the room was rather cold

After many days of excellent seafood we decided to try something different tonight so went to this restaurant. We arrive at 8:40 without a reservation and they were able to fit us in. Decor and layout typical of Indian restaurants we’ve been in previously.The menu is vast and also contains Thai and Chinese dishes although only Indian dishes were available tonight. Loved the layout of the menu with all mild dishes grouped together, medium and then hot. Ordered and had a couple of poppadoms and picked to keep us going.I had the Balti King Prawn Jalfrezi and my wife the mild honey chicken. We both really enjoyed the food (though I prefer naans to be crispy rather than doughy) and were the right heat intensity for our liking.

It doesn’t look much from the outside but the service and food were excellent. We started with prawn poori and vegetable pakora and were not disappointed. We are big Indian food fans and are lucky to have at in a lot of good restaurants. This food in this one was up there. The vegetable pakora was one of the best we have tasted really fresh and the poori lovely.For Mains I had a spicy chicken Jaipuria with mushroom rice which was terrific and my wife a tandoori chicken biryani again she thought excellent. We also had Nan bread. Would highly recommend if you are visiting Tobermory.

We went here on a quiet Tuesday night for dinner. There was just one waiter working - and also juggling takeaways - and despite this he did a really good job at making sure we were happy with our food, and that we received it quickly. The food was very reasonably priced, and utterly delicious. The atmosphere was a little lacking, but their music system was broken so I think the lack of music contributed to that.

On arriving at Tobermory and checking into our accommodation after a long day my wife and i chose the Spice of Mull to have our dinner.What a colourful restaurant from the outside and inside was very well furnished too.Now to the food....Absolutely superb. Each dish was individually spiced unlike some other Indian restaurants we know. Very very tasty and just a little more heat than usual but very enjoyable.The staff were very efficient and very friendly.Six days on Mull and we visited here twice it was that good.Great job guys we will be back.

We ate here twice during our stay and have no complaints with either visit.Having learned the hard way by asking for a little extra spice in my main from the first visit, my thoughts were proven correct and that these guys dish up a tasty curry for a pretty reasonable price. Generous portions and excellent chicken pieces made for two enjoyable meals and well worth a visit if it's enjoyable food you're after.

This is an ideal spot for a curry. They have a great selection of delicious food. The staff are all friendly and professional. It’s styled like a classic British Indian restaurant and you get a view of the harbour if you get the seat by the window. Would recommend!

This restaurant/ takeaway has always provided fantastic food. The staff are always attentive and professional. If you come to Tobermory then I would suggest you try here if you love great Indian food. Photos are before and after. Very satisfied customers 5stars from me.

On our recent trip to Tobermory we came across the spice of mull. I would highly recommend the food and certainly everything we had was *****. The tikka masala was outstanding along with the chicken pakora which you can tell was made with a high quality chicken. We will definitely be returning on our next family vacation

Had a meal in Spice of Mull last week, the food was great. The menu is expensive, extensive range of curries from various areas of India and further afield, as well as Chinese and Thai cuisine. Everything we had was very good and the staff were attentive and courteous ensuring social distancing and tracing was well observed. The starters were very tasty, poppadoms very crunchy, nan bread fantastic and main course curries simply delicious. The best curries we have eaten in a long time.

We had the fish tikka Korai...it was so succulent and flavoursome. The saag aloo was also mouth wateringly delicious. We highly recommend this restaurant.

We had a lovely meal here. The only off putting thing was the dead flowers in the window. Staff were lovely and we noticed a lot of local people coming in for takeaways which was reassuring.

Reasonable basic curry house. COVID meant few places were open and all fully booked except here and Chinese, this was clean and adhering to COVID restrictions. Large menu with good basic options and a few unusual ones. We opted for 2 chicken, medium spiced dishes which were as spiced as promised, some may find this too much so beware when ordering. Both like the rice dishes were tasty and the dhal very nice.

Our first night in Mull and happened upon this restaurant whilst walking along the Main Street. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the ambiance within the resturant

Poor service and poor food. We will not eat here again. It took so long to be served and we had to remind them about the drinks we ordered.

Had read mixed recent reviews so although we felt like an Indian meal , we were a bit wary going in. Nothing to worry about. Prompt friendly service & Covid precautions very evident. Nice meal, good sized portions and the softest nicest Nan bread I’ve eaten in a long time. Decent value too and I would definitely recommend it.

Good place to eat if you are hungry. Wide range of speciality cooking available, including Balti, Indian, Thai, and Chinese..!!Perhaps as a result of the wide range, the quality of the food was less than special. Good for a meal if hungry, but we would go elsewhere for a better meal experience.

Myself and nine friends and family had the misfortune to visit this restaurant on Saturday night, 18 July. We had booked for 7.30 and arrived on time. We were greeted and that was that! We waited, and waited, and waited, and waited. We sat for at least 30 minutes without any attention or drinks! We told the Manager/owner we were not happy and were leaving, he apologised!! I have to add that all during our wait, the phone was ringing constantly and a courier/employee was taking out deliveries. I fully understand that during these difficult times phone orders have kept restaurants afloat, but if you don't want paying customers in your premises, why open!!!

Ordered a takeaway here whilst visiting mull. Our order of chicken korma extra green chilli was not met. When we arrived back we had no chilli in the korma whatsoever. Even tho waiter repeated order back to me ?? Also chicken pakora tasted microwaved and bland and nan bread was like something from a packet. Avoid whilst in mull !!!

Very good food and friendly service well Worth a visit if you are staying on mull. Food was first class .

Great Indian Restraunt where all of us enjoyed our dishes (7 diners). Lamb madras was good and spicy, vegetarian curries good, beware of the hot curry menu if you don’t like it hot! Menu seems to offer a wider range of south East Asian cuisine but only offered Indian on our visit (New Year’s Day). My best meal on mull and very welcome on 1jan!

Amazing choice of food from the menu, the portions were large, food was amazing and cooked to perfection. Staff very friendly from moment of entry until my partner and I left. Would defo be back next time we are in Mull

Mull has many suberb restaurants but all were fully booked so had to resort to this Indian. Bad feeling when we walked in as only one couple eating. So many choices on the menu again rang alarm bells thinking this must mean food not prepared fresh. We were not wrong in our assumption. My meal was meant to be medium. It was more like a vindaloo so I obviously got given the wrong sauce. When I complained I got a shrug and offered yoghurt to cool it down. My wife's was sickly sweet like a load of sugar added to disguise the taste. If you are stuck in Mull with everything else full get fish and chips or a takeaway and eat in on the harbour wall.

We popped in for an anniversary meal the other night, great food, wonderfully cooked with great flavours and big portions. Great service made us feel vewry welcome.

Visited this evening, staff very busy with takeaways (obviously very popular) but nothing was too much trouble. Lovely food, cheerful service, would highly recommend.

We were so delighted with the meals we had here on holiday. The setting is lovely, the staff is wonderful and the food is amazing. Try the butter chicken tikka and the biryani. And the naan bread. We liked it so much that we cancelled our planned reservation and returned for a second time. The portions are very generous and our waiter, Masoud, was the best. Thank you for a memorable time.

We visited the Spice for early Dinner after a day around Mull. No booking made however this wasn’t a problem at 5.45 on a Monday. Welcome was good however we were left waiting for drinks for a while.Pickle tray & popadoms were in front of us before the drinks. No draft here - Only bottles.Mains followed soon after and were very well presented and tasted good. Chapati good as well, stayed moist through dinner. The restaurant accommodated us without a booking. It was busy but they managed to find us a table at the window. We didn't have that long to wait and the staff were very polite. Our indian meal was delicious, couldn't fault it at all.

Usually a full restaurant full of people is a good sign. However clearly these diners weren’t witnessing what I was. The issue is not with the staff, they were all polite and amenable. My concern is the hygiene standards, or should I say lack of.

We had been in previously and we were again impressed. Great Indian food, great service and everything is perfection at astonishing prices. Prawns and lamb fantastic ingredients very well prepared. Service with one waiter but very helpful. Busy on a Monday in September in Tobermory speaks volumes. A great reputation and well deserved. Will come again.

Following a wee meeting in Aros Hall eight of us retired to this restaurant for something to eat. Although the menu boasts Chinese and Thai food we were advised that only Indoan fare would be available that night, which was fine.

My wife and I turned up, just after opening, at 17:30 on a very wet and windy Monday to an empty restaurant and, considering it was Monday and early, I wasn't expecting anything special but I have to say it was the best Indian meal I can remember having!

We were pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. Having sampled some mediocre Indian cuisine on some of the other Scottish Isles in the past, we found all of the dishes we sampled here to be tasty and the portions were generous. I particularly enjoyed the tandoori paneer which is not usually on menus I have seen. We were told on arrival that the Chinese and Thai dishes were not available but that was not a problem for us. One of the waiters did seem a bit like he could not be bothered (as referred to in other reviews) but the other waiter was very pleasant and our experience overall was a good one.

9 of us booked late as other restaurants in Tobermory had let us down. Great table for 9, cheerful staff, food arrived quickly and was very good indeed. Only Indian food available that night or would have given 5 stars. A little gem on a gem of an island.

We came in late on a Friday night at the end of August, most places in Tobermory were full or closed. The restaurant was empty and we thought we may have made a mistake but how wrong we were. The waiter said they were only serving Indian food at this time so we ordered for the 4 of us. The food was delicious, as seasoned curry eaters we appreciated that this was good Indian fare, very tasty and better than we had expected. The decor is quite retro but clean and fresh. The staff were very polite, efficient and attentive. We all agreed the food and service were very good. I would go back again.
