Spice World in Argyll & Bute

My meal was disappointing to say the least, this is our second time trying never again, my curry was chicken in watery sauce, my husband's lamb was tough, we asked for the bill and he said it was cash only, forty pounds for a very poor meal I hate sea side towns that get away with sub standard food because it's passing trade that,s why we need to give reviews to wipe this out.

Food was fantastic service great

Food was excellent. Staff were lovely. Will definitely return when next in Oban. The restaurant is up stairs so I'm not sure if it's wheelchair accessible.

Very tasty. Not cheap but good food and a great view - book early to get window seats. Google asked for an update... Spice World is now our regular meal out on Oban, just so consistently good.

I ordered a stuffed vegetable paratha for a take away dinner whoever made this has spoiled my dinner. It was burnt completely as shown in the picture with minimal stuffing, not even considerable to eat. Highly disappointing, need to through it right away which made me more sad.

Disgusting. We were there with all the family 3 toddlers and were told they only had one high chair. Then were told they only had an Indian menu on . We waited over a hour to order then an hour for main courses to start coming out and they were all cold. We sent them back they then came back out few minutes later and one of my family members asked if he had microwaved this and he said yes . We all got up and just left terrible experience all the waiter did was laugh

Ordered Indian for take-out collection. Very nice curries, peshwari nan especially good, loads of ground almonds. For Oban excellent prices and value. Will order again when back next month.

Disgusting, after waiting over an hour for a main course, what we were served as a Chinese curry looked like dishwater with augergines and chilli's??? and chicken that looked like it had been boiled in water we didn't eat it. To be told that they had a new chef and that was the issue. Never again and I would avoid at all costs

Once again had a super meal. Great crew of people and very good food, Lamb Chops were wonderful, Dahl was as traditional as it should be, Achari was again very good and all served with a smile in a wonderful waterfront location.

Nice restaurant portion size small and little over priced

Really couldn't recommend more highly. The food is so delicious, varied, and authentic, the prices are right, the service quite gentlemanly, and the lovely lighting with harborside view divine.

I eat here fairly regularly on diving trips and while it isn't the best Indian restaurant in Scotland I've certainly eaten in worse. I can't comment on their Chinese food as I always order Indian but always found the food to be tasty and plentiful. Beer is a little pricey but the staff are friendly and we often get offered a free dram after our mea

Visited today with 2 friends. We were the only customers there. Arrived at 12.50 and were given special lunch menus describing both Indian and Chinese options. We were told by very polite waiter that only Indian version was available after one of us asked for a Chinese meal. We all ordered a starter and a main course. We had just started eating our starter when the main courses were brought to the table. They were cold by thetime we got round to eating them. Talk about feeling rushed, particularly when we were the only customers. Practically the minute we finished our main courses the bill was brought to our table. I think the chef wanted an early finish. To add insult to injury the waiter didn't even bring us our change back, it was only £3 odd but not right to just assume it was a tip We won't be back.

Very poor they advertise Chinese, Indian and Thai food but after sitting and selecting menu was told that they were only doing Indian food . Had to wait 30 minutes for our table in spite of booking . Service very slow and food was miserable .

Awful service, 3 hours for two courses, had to ask for the bill three times, food was average. Don’t bother wasting your precious time in Oban here.

Lovely Indian Restaurant in the center of Oban, Scotland. Excellent service combined with stellar food and you have Spice World. Definitely a place we'd come to again if back in Oban. I recommend the Butter Chicken with a Cheese Naan. Freaking fantastic.

Group booking for 8pm. A few tables had customers but they were far from full. 45 minutes before a waiter came to take the order. 45 minutes before we were told over half the menu was unavailable. Food then took over an hour to arrive. The manager offered no apology or seemed to care at how poor the service had been. The food was okay. Everything but the chef though means you should absolutely avoid and take your patron elsewhere. Based on other reviews this is clearly an ongoing issue so you have been warned.

Was absolutely terrible service was horrendous the guy never understood anything we said he took our order for food and drinks we waited 1 hour and a half just for drinks and nearly 2 for food and the food came look warm completely different from what I had order and the portion sizes were a joke wouldn’t even feed a toddler plates came dirty and had to be sent back as were the glasses, over all a terrible place WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE the toilets had no lock and were very dirty

Ordered a takeaway via the restaurants website during a recent stay in Oban. Fast and friendly service throughout, the food was delicious, can highly recommend the Dhansak. Noticed that the actual restaurant was very nicely decorated and comfortable whilst making the collection, I will definitely return for a sit down meal on my next visit.

Had a delicious Naga Chicken here! Really tasty. Staff were great. Don’t understand the negative reviews… ignore them. Most have clearly never been to a remote Scottish town before!

Lived here for several years and not tried it so decided to treat my boy and go out for a lads dinner together, the food was worth the wait. Polite staff food hot fresh and both really loved it. First time here and very impressed. Inventive menu and everything we ordered was excellent, fresh and tasty. Liked the complementary drinks to finish :) but if they were trying to persuade us to leave a review then they didn't need to.

Second time in Oban, second time at Spice World, food and staff are top class. Highly recommend and can't wait for 3rd visit.

Drove over from Glencoe area thinking we’d try some Thai food. We knew restaurant hours for lunch were 12-2. We arrived exactly at 1:30 which should have been plenty of time to order a quick lunch and be out the door. Restaurant was completely empty...

Today, I faced a situation. When I reached the hotel, they said it is already closed, and only takeaway is available. But at the same time, they have provided seats for localite. Deeply dissatisfied 😔👎

We all had awful meals here and when we told the staff, they were incredibly rude to my husband and started shouting at him. Waste of money and would not recommend at all. Plenty of nice places to eat in Ovan. Avoid!!

We tried the Thai menu. Starter nice but very disappointed in our main courses. Chicken tough as an old boot. We did complain and they said they would bring out fresh but we declined. Not enjoyable.

Very unfriendly staff. Went to ask for the special lunch offer (advertised for 12-2pm everyday) menu. One staff said food will be served only after 12.30pm and another cuts in and says no lunch will be served today and we were unceremoniously turned away. Never visiting the place when we're in Oban again.

Rude staff, they were difficult about our order, we were not allowed to order a starter first and then our main course. And because we wanted to share the starters and main courses, they insisted on bringing it all in one go. The bill for the drinks was not itemized, so we don't know if it is correct. As a surprise, we could not pay by card and everything had to be paid in cash. The food itself was fine, but the experience was not pleasant, so never again.

Very mediocre food, awful service. They can’t keep reservations and very rude to customers even when reservations are not honoured. The view is the only thing thats good. Honestly, there are much better places to eat in Oban. Awful experience altogether.

We came around 1:30 and they didn’t let us dine in and while I wanted to take away they wanted me to order more food which we didn’t have a place to sit and eat so we requested for the two things we ordered and they wanted us to pay cash which we didn’t carry and the staff isn’t friendly or helpful at all

Visited Spice world last night, very busy when we went, around 8mm. Our part of 4 was seated within 5 mins, unfortunately it then took about 15mins for drinks order to be taken and another 5 for it to arrive. We asked 4 time before our order was taken. The food was ok, lamb a bit on tough side, but apart from that ok. The bill arrived, just over £140, we paid cash and waited for the change, it never came! I spoke to the waiter, his response "I though it was a gratuity" really!!! I always thought a gratuity was at the customers discretion, obviously not at spice world. Disgusting

The food is just so so. Charged 5 pounds service fee without been notified at all. How dare they pricing boiled rice 3.95 quid. Did not ask for allergies or dietary requirements. Do not go! Run!

Great Indian food with a view. You can look over the bay and enjoy your diner. The menu had lots of options also vegetarian options. The food tastes great and is reasonably priced. The staff will help you with your order if you’re not sure what you want and recommend extras to ensure you have a great meal.

Food was nice and warm .staff was okay seem to spend time arguing with each other. Elder gentleman could do with smiling as he seems unapproachable he also takes things off table before you've finished

Let me start off by saying I’m really confused on the recent low rankings of this place. My husband and I came in around 9:45PM, were greeted right away even though they had TWO tables of 10+ people they were serving. This is one of the only places open late on a Sunday for fresh food. It was one waiter and a bartender working and they came by quickly and made sure we had our drinks and order within 10 mins. Mind you we were not in a rush to begin with. The food! It was very good food, my soup was missing that punch, nothing but a bit more of salt and pepper to bring forth the flavors. My husband had a curry and I had a chicken tikka shakoti and we shared a garlic naan. It was perfect for a late night meal. Had some drinks and enjoyed our waiter Sanjay (not sure if I’m spelling that right) who was very friendly!! It took a bit to get our check but like I said they has 20+ people ahead of us they were taking care of. Will come back!

A Restaurant is a Service and Experience business. Great Food and great treatment of clients are essentials for good patronage. My wife and I were on our anniversary and Monday night we walked in. She is super humble person rarely speaks loudly. The manager in the bar, does not greet her and when asked table for two, pretended as though he did not understand her. Took us to a entry table, throws the menu and walks away. I come behind and ask him if we could be seated by the open tables overlooking the road and sea....he denies it saying it reserved. I say okay and asked how to reserve for tomorrow.....thru an app or phone....walks away again...and yells out bloody Indians. Yep we are Indian born Americans and your restaurant lost a family dinner spend. My wife walked out and I followed. A disgraceful experience and based on some of the food reviews, we may have lucked out. Poor customer service will kill your base. This one is relying on tourist crowd. My humble request, find another place. A single star is too much for such behavior. @Google please provide and option for a "-" star (negative star)

Worst experience ever. Food isn't good plus the service is so bad that it kills the vibe. The restaurant denied us (a group of 11 people) to reorder any food saying that the kitchen is occupied and continued to serve the white people and new customers.

Was welcomed in to place shown table which I was happy with then ordered Diet Irn Bru , food order I asked for pakora then Tandoori mix ( I ask what it comes with waiter says mint sauce I say what about rice and curry sauce NO I said your having a laugh he walked away then another waiter came over your ready to order I said yes why isn’t other waiter serving me he don’t understand you he doesn’t speak good English I said whatever ) so I order pakora then tandoori Indian garlic chilli with rice and Garlic naan I say plenty garlic ok it’s fresh garlic sir ok , Pakora comes out passable main meal comes out looks fab the I see dried slices of garlic and naan bread just dry garlic aswell I say just eat it wasn’t to bad but certainly wasn’t a hot Garlic chilli (very bland )I said to him with I finished garlic wasn’t fresh it was dry slices he said I’ll ask chef ?? I wanted something and Spice World delivered. Tasty food, good heat you want from a curry and good service. The restaurant was nearly full on Monday night although took me in as a table for one. Wine was drinkable and food made me happy.

We had been in a group of 11 people, we had been told that we had to take at least 7 main dishes given the number of people. Agreeing to it, we took our seats. After giving our initial order, the waiter asked us for any change in order as only one ticket would be given per table. Since no explanation was given as to what it meant, we said no further changes and waited for our meal. After getting our food, the portions were less ( than what was suggested by the waiter), and hence decided to order more. The waiter refused to take our order and said that he would not take the order as he had mentioned it being only one ticket. On asking why he did not explain it before clearly, there was no answer. Then upon one of my friend's request, where he actually got up to convince the staff, as we had a pretty long day. While he did agree after sometime, the waiter kept iterating that he is very busy and we need to give him the order soon. The tone was really rude and no customer should be treated this way, no matter which restaurant. We had to go to Wetherspoons to actually get some food (recommended in case these guys deny you food later).

Giving 1 star because can't give 0. We had a really bad experience here. The service wasn't good at all. Coming here for the first time we were unaware of the portion size and hence ordered as we could understand. We needed to order more later but the waiters denied to take it as they said that we could order just once. We left the place with half full stomachs. The taste of the food was okayish but it doesn't matter as the service was pathetic. WILL NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE YO COME HERE!!

One of the worst carry outs I have had spiced onion's wow the. Rest of our meal truly shocking ,as if Oban could not get any worse for a curry spice world has surprised it's self

this place was sketchy. It looked nice inside and offered a 3 course meal for only 9£ (really cheap..) Also when my friend and I walked in the servers genuinely looked confused, stared at us and didn't walk over to us even though we were waiting about five minutes. Place was dead empty as well.

No food choices except Indian. Chicken tikka starter was tasteless. Chicken chasni sauce was tomato ketchup with added sugar. Not recommended 😕

Just had a meal in here tonight and it was top notch. Being an Indian it takes a lot to impress me in an Indian restaurant but would highly recommend it
