Jade Garden in Argyll & Bute

I went in and the people were very nice and the food came really quickly but it was quite expensive and it smelt quite bad inside

Great value Chinese. Huge portions, nicely cooked food. Good service. Nice and simple Chinese restaurant. Been a couple of times and been great both times.

As a tourist visiting Rothesay, Bute, I was recommended to come here for Chinese food, so gave it a try, we were there late in the evening, it wasn't very busy, a table of 10 on one of the table, but we had to wait for over 15 minutes to be served. Starter was good, we ordered Mini vegetable spring rolls and Chicken Satay in skewer. Main meal wasn't as expected, my partner order beef in black bean sauce but when the dish came I have to question whether it was pork or beef, the meat was discoloured, he still took the dish anyway. We didn't want to make a fuss with the food so let it go. It was when we came to pay we were ask to pay cash, which we weren't made aware when we came into the shop. The waiter said it was signed at the door and he wasn't too pleasant when he told us this. My partner was then ask to get cash from cash machine so I waited till he return, during this time the table next to us was also encounter with the same problem not knowing they have to pay cash. It would have been more acceptable if staff can communicate more about this service to avoid unnecessary confusion.

Poor service as not enough staff. Ordered crispy duck with pancakes as a starter. It had small pieces of bones among the meat. Waited another 40 mins then mains arrived. Chow mein and Lemon chicken. Only warm and the chow mein had extra pieces of chicken laid on top of plated food (not in a dish to share). Not good quality. Disappointed with standards in Jade Garden, e.g. husband used toilets. Disgusted with standard. Needs someone to re organise and invest in staff. Beware....found out do not take credit card payments, only cash. We didn't notice any signs to advise. Might be worth stressing to customers this fact. Sorry but worst meal we have had here on Bute!

Ordered special chow mein and ribs with gravy , absolutely beautiful food and good portions , reasonably priced and special praise to the young boy serving us , he was run off his feet dealing with orders and did a brilliant job , he was also friendly, with a smile and very polite, well done young man

Ok so upon arrival I was a little worried, the place seems a bit ruff/ready and rather disorganised as a restaurant setting. I think they mostly do deliveries. Do not be put off , we really enjoyed our meal and actually couldn’t fault the food in anyway. Our servers were attentive and friendly and checked on us throughout. Food was delicious. No need for starters as the plates are very generous. We had chow mein, satay, kung pao chicken and pork schezwan. All very tasty. Good prices and just off the Main Street so perfect location.

Not much choice but go somewhere else to eat. Update: This place is cash only so I can't post a picture of the receipt. The only waitress was very good, she was taking the phone orders and getting all the take-away orders ready for collection. There was no atmosphere as the place is dark, no background music playing. I assume that there are no other chinese on the island as the take-away was doing brisk business.

Great Meal,fresh,hot,and good quick service,quite busy,that says it all really.easy parking ,price very reasonable,certainly will visit next time we're in Largs.

Having lived in Rothesay for 3 years now. I thought I would give the Jade Garden Chinese food a try, I’m mean, how bad can it be! And since the only other Chinese restaurant has now closed what had I to lose. I ordered the Thai red curry and the Special chow mein. If you like the taste of salt you will be very happy, I am just concerned it is perhaps MSG. There was no other flavour in either dish. The whole lot went in the bin. The chef should be sent to Chinese cooking school or better still fired that is how bad the food is there. Now if I want Chinese I will have to wait until I go to Glasgow or any other Chinese restaurant of this island, as nothing else could be that bad. I just hope my system recovers from the shock!

I've had a few meals as in takeout from this restaurant always been brilliant but unfortunately tonight I got a special chow mein which I would rate not very good to be truthful dispicable whoever is doing the cooking tonight should be shot sorry needs to be said

Ordered my food at 9.50pm one night after asking girl on phone if they r still delivering as to which she replied yes , ordered my food and was abruptly hung up on after giving my address , it’s the next morning now and I’m still waiting on food ? Do not order from this establishment it’s a joke

A standard above a regular Chinese takeaway you'd find in Scotland. Very fresh all the time. Delivery usually speedy. polite young staff at front of house. Very good Chinese restaurant.

Excellent food! Very tasty and good sized portions. Delivered to the local Golfers bar- who lent us plates and cutlery! Would reccomend both!!.

We ordered a buffet of take away food for 28 family and guests whilst staying on the Isle of Bute this week. The food order arrived hot, on time and everything we had was very tasty..

I visited over the weekend and ordered the lemon chicken. It had a delightful balance of tangy and sweet flavors, which suited my taste perfectly.

Just had a delivery whilst on holiday,great food couldn't fault it had special chowmein,special fried,chips and prawn toast,

Food is fab sat in last year . This year July 2023 got a take away . Phoned and collected it ..... Chicken balls are huge and well worth the money x

Came here in April the restaurant was freezing although heating did eventually come on the service was appalling waiter in his wee brothers joggies brought 1item at a time we thought maybe as it was april it was out of season and they were caught short but No because as of june it's even worse can't these people learn how to run a restaurant Please don't waste time or money here.

 weeduck22 (3 reviews) Isle of Bute, United Kingdom Every time I order a takeaway from this restaurant I get a surly teenager, who frankly sounds stoned and disinterested and so detached it's like I've disturbed him from doing something he'd rather be doing like well, getting stoned and drinking Frosty Jack in the local park with his mates. He invariably gets my order wrong and tonight I had to phone and re-order something once again as it didn't arrive in the original order. I waited nearly 2 hours from the original call until getting the missed item. I can only imagine that if he isn't stoned, doom scrolling his smartphone has left him with the attention span of a goldfish, hence his inability to take an order of 4 items! Also, I've phoned many times and requested a new menu as the one I have is out of date and it never materialises. You know that way when you know someone is not listening to you and and just want to get you off the phone asap - yeah, that's my experience every time. They have a captive market on the island I live on so have no incentive, motivation or even the desire it seems, to provide anything like decent customer service. On a more positive note the food is adequate and they haven't poisoned me...yet... Date of visit: June 2023

Apologies not the correct takeaway. My takeaway came from River Jade in Dunoon. Ive never been to Jade Garden so cant comment.

Lacking un any basic service skills. Wait an age to be served, then given your food with no cutlery or plates! Meal(s) were reheated in a microwave. Dont waste your time here.

Wow! Who ever gives more than a 1 Star, you need your head examined! No cutlery. No plates. Wait of over an hour for microwaved food! We sat in, party of 4. Two young lads doing there best, but best stay far away. Sorry.

We ordered King prawn chow mein which was good. The egg fried rice is normally egg loaded but this was blend no eggs and soya sauce infused. Beef with ginger and spring onion was alright but a bit salty for my taste. Overall, it’s good for the price. Coming from Australia, where prices are ridiculously high in food this is reasonable.

Take away ordered. All food was well prepared and tasty, in good portions. From our experience I've no negatives.

Tried for the first time last night, great meal, so I'm having another one TONIGHT!!! Give it a try you won't be disappointed .

Such a shame, takeaways are normally lovely but on this occasion the sauce felt and tatsted as though it had been watered down with virtually no flavour and the chicken was a re heat or overcooked.

Portion sizes are not great fir the expensive price

Always get a Chinese from here when on Bute. Always excellent food prepared in a flash with generous portions too.

Went in at 5:15 today ordered the food ready within 10 minutes six people all main courses all different hot and very tasty as nice as any Chinese I’ve had a take out from. @ £.850 per head we were all full and the special fried rice particularly good.

Shocking service because waiter had no tray and brought a little at a time, obviously not trained. The food was very disappointing, full of additives, chinese tea was cold by the time we got it. Beginning tovthink there are no decent restaurants on island. Thank goodness we are self catering.

We had an excellent takeaway. Everyone enjoyed their dishes. Generous portions. Particularly enjoyed the chicken curry that I requested 'a little hotter' than standard. Highly recommended.

This was a chinese with good food and portions that defeated even me. It was served quickly (my friend was not used to the speed of Chinese service - I am) There was a good variety and we shared good dishes.

Was delicious meals good prices and you get good plate full can recommend duck with peppers in black bean sauce.

Great food, but paying for rice chips and prawn crackers on top of dishes seemed a bit steep. Doesn't accept card either.

It was OK but the pork I had was very chewy, I got bored of trying to to eat it so left a lot of it.

Food quality was mediocre at best. Service atrocious. Would have been quicker to order a takeaway from same place and have it delivered to table as dining customers given shoddy service compared to takeaway customers. A young lad was doing his best doing all the work front of house and he was a star. However he was being overworked and was overwhelmed as a result. Just hope he was paid well but doubt it. Food was either forgotten despite ordered or cold. And it was not just our table. Cash payments only and only found out when went to pay. Luckily some of group had cash which is unusual especially in covid times. I mean even local taxis accepted cards. Manager not interested in complaint I wanted to make. I said I was not going to pay full price due to big issues. Just stood looking at me and no apology given. Won't be back except to give a tip to the young lad and tell him to leave and find a better employer.

Awful food. First time ordered it was extremely greasy and tasted like old oil. The meat was tough and not tasty. We thought we would try again but second time was even worse. Vegetable spring rolls dripping with oil, full of cabbage and meat! Pork hard and to chewy to eat. Noodles worse than pot Noodles, dry, stringy and no flavour. Beansprouts not cooked properly may as well have been raw. And told the menu was incorrect and didn't match the till so couldn't order what you wanted anyway. One of the worst takeaways throughout the UK. Much better elsewhere on Bute.

A thorough tasty meal with hearty portions. Great value and good quality ingredients. Wrapped in friendly service with a smile. If you’re on the island you should look it up

Disappointing food. Had heard great things but I'm afraid it was average at best. They also couldn't get a simple order correct as the missed one item and cooked the wrong main from the one ordered. However monetary wise it was good value for money.

Never get a bad take away from JG. Food always fresh. Always arrives hot. Good crack with the delivery guys too.

This is my favourite restruant on Bute serving large helpings of food from a varied menu with pleasant, attentive staff. Unfortunately there was a shortage of tea bags and coffee but that will not deter me from visiting again, I have gone there for many years. On street parking and good covid measures, there is also a takeaway service.

We were visiting Rothesay 7/9/21 .Trying to find somewhere to eat at 7.30pm.The sign quite clearly displaying open.We entered abs were IGNORED for maybe 10 minutes. There was 1 TABLE occupied. I dared put a foot in the restaurant it seemed to stir a member of staff to acknowledge us.Her instructions "get behind the line " obviously with social distancing I apologised but had been ignored for about 19 minutes. I asked for a table fit two her reply NO. No reason or explanation.We left and the ONE TABLE OF FOUR WHICH WAS OCCUPIED. Looked as bewildered as us and found it strange.To be honest this was not unique. I thought Scottish Tourism had moved on from the 70,s NOT IN ROTHESAY AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Food very nice service terrible its like faulty towers. They are.more interested in getting takeaways out than they are about attending to customers sitting in restaurant. We sat half an hour before even being asked what we wanted to drink and they were running out of everything we and other customers were asking for

We phoned to make an order and I should have known at that point not to continue..Rude initial response on the phone. We were given an hour to wait which was fine as it was 7pm...At 8.15pm i phoned back and was told it was on its way.At 8.45pm I phoned again to be told it would take an hour as they had been very busy..that would have made it 10.15pm!!....When I said we may have to cancel she said ok..then hung up..sooooooo rude and we were so hungry ended up with beans on toast 😂

Started going to Jade Garden and have to say quality is superb. Breast of chicken chopped is exactly that, not wee chicken pieces that come in a bag. Highly recommend. Takeaway every weekend x

Best Chinese food in largs takes a while for delivery but really worth the wait I wouldn't order out the other two now

Salt and pepper chicken wings were lovely. Normally I wont eat the peppers and onions but these were cooked to perfection and first time I've enjoyed. Rest of food lovely and serves very friendly and homely.

They do a mean chips, fried rice & curry sauce. Not impressed too much with other meals we’ve tried, they were pretty average.

Arrived in Rothesay about 9PM and asked in Street where we could get a sit in meal. Jade Garden was suggested, on arrival made welcome and we asked for recommendations. Salt and pepper chicken was the recommended meal which we ordered along with a Tiger...

Enjoyed the sweet and sour chicken. Good service and reasonably priced. Would recommend this place.👍

Ordered the crispy duck and the bamboo steamer that held the pancakes came out covered in a couple dozen little lice insects.. Let the server know and she brought out a fresh steamer still wet from being washed... But because I was now paying attention I found a bunch of them still hiding inside the cracks. Was a tad bit off putting.. Service was good.

Had a takeaway from here on our visit to bute, and found the food really nice and very reasonable priced food. I didn't realise until I went to collect the order that they do home delivery for a small charge. Nice staff too.

We love a Chinese curry but you know yourself you can try ones from not your usual takeaway place and they are not so good. So i was chuffed when that wasn't the case here! The chicken curry was lovely, nice wee spice to it....

Food was ok, my meal was a lot better than my husbands. He found sliced spam in his special chow mein, lol! Some background music would help the atmosphere immensely. Service was friendly and the portions were a good size and reasonably priced.

Got a take away meal for 2 chicken fried rice dishes and curry sauce. Was not that good, dog got most of it. Such an easy dish and they cannot get that dish right. My stars goes to the waiter who was professional, smart and friendly. Shame the chef has let that place go down on ratings.

Stevie the owner/chef was very friendly and gave us Chinese tea that was lovely. Chatted for a while with him as he was so friendly. The chicken curry and duck curry were first class.

Only a wee restaurant, the food was lovely and the portions were huge. Highly recommend this place. The staff were very friendly and attentive. My only observation was it needed a wee bit back ground music as you felt awkward when speaking with it being so small, but that’s just my opinion and wouldn’t stop me going back.

No stars for this restaurant but have to put one in or I can't submit my review,walked in and place had no atmosphere,girl who tended to us was really nice but that was only good point,ordered a soup starter(was very salty),main course course was not restaurant quality(just received what was glorified take away food),during our meal,the owner's children were in the restaurant playing their DS games,girl tending to us was playing on her phone,we had to listen to videos that she was watching.

Always get takeaway from here. No complaints, chicken black beans is lovely.

We stumbled upon Jade Garden on our first evening on Bute having been turned away from Harry Haw's as it was full - what a find! It looks quite unassuming from the outside but the food is great and so is the service.

Ten of us went and had food it was really good not a bad thing to say highly recommend this place reasonably priced
