Celebrated my 66th Birthday here with family, The staff could not have been more helpful and the food was perfect, there were 13 in our party and everyone got what they wanted and were very happy with the food and service. The place looks a wee bit dated and the stairs are a killer but it was not pretentious and the food is better than some of the other fancy expensive establishments in Helensburgh.

I reserved yesterday and hoped for a table by the window and we were not disappointed we had a perfect table with the best view on a beautiful day. It had been some time since we had been here and were not disappointed the service was excellent and very courteous..and ultimately the food was wonderful. A delightful lunch indeed.

We went for a nostalgic dinner here as we used to go here on our first dates but my it has changed we got our food delivered and it was hardly on the table and one of the staff came over to ask if everything was OK which we thought was nice but within a couple of minutes another member of staff came over to ask if we were finished obviously not as our plates still had a lot of food then another couple of minutes the manageress came over to take plates away will we where still eating horrendous on leaving my partner told the manageress that we where very unhappy with the carry on and that we would not be back all she replied back was good riddance very rude never experienced anything as bad as this definitely will not be back !!

Waited a while to get drinks, then had to ask 3 times to order food. They were busy which we appreciated but folk coming in after us got served first, another couple had also waited a long time to order, service was very slow. That being said the food was 10/10 and once we ordered it wasn’t too long before it came. Decent sized portion too.

Absolutely first class meal starter and main were Absolutely brilliant as was the service look forward to going again in the near future can't recommend enough

Decided on drive and dinner with my elderly Mother and opted for Helensburgh and The Ruby having been there in the past (last time about 2 years ago certainly) and found it to be excellent then. Not the case this time. Arrived just before opening and stood with a little family of 3 waiting to get in. Door opened at 5pm and we were, at that point, the only 2 occupied tables in the restaurant. We were told the window seat we took would need to be back for 7pm as it was reserved, not a problem. Orders taken just after 5pm for 1 starter, 2 mains with rice, drinks of 1 latte and 1 soda water with blackcurrant. The drinks came within minutes as did the prawn cocktail starter. Prawn cocktail was generous portion but had no flavour whole thing was watery. This was cleared from table about 5.15. Sitting at a table with no food about 5.30 a waitress asked us would we like to order anything else? Reply being we’d just like our mains please. By 5.45 still no food and other diners tucking into their main courses despite arriving after us. My Mum still hadn’t eaten a thing as she was ordering a main and planning a dessert . By 5.50 I decided to ask where food was and if it wasn’t ready we were paying for the drinks and one starter and leaving. I approached a waitress and was told the food “wouldn’t be long now” .. remember we’d to vacate table by 7pm. I honestly don’t think the order for our mains had been passed to kitchen until I asked. I returned to table and my Mum and me decided to pay for what we’d had and go so asked waitress for bill as we’d waited 55 minutes by then with no signs of the food. Before leaving I went to the bar area and asked to speak to the manager. Eventually the manager came over. I voiced my concerns about the time we’d waited and was met with complete disinterest and excuses.. “the restaurant is busy” (it was 50% full at this point) , if they struggle to cope at 50% I dread to think how they manage when it’s full. Then she said “the majority of people don’t complain” .. not really a great selling point is that ??? Apparently the lady was the owner and couldn’t have been less interested in the valid point I was making. We sat almost an hour with my mother having no food . Bad enough but the level of apathy and disinterest was surprising for what was once a gem of a restaurant (I believe it’s changed hands since my last visit) Certainly won’t be going back and I’d advise others to spend their time and money on a different restaurant in Helensburgh deserving of both of those and custom welcomed and appreciated

Went for a birthday lunch. The food was lovely, hot and good value. However, two of the party are intolerant to onions so asked for the dishes to be served without. This was not accommodated. Had to ask for water and salt and pepper a few times and eventually had to go and source ourself. The restaurant was very busy and seemed understaffed. Was rushed to pay our bill. Would maybe order takeaway but unlikely to return to dine in.

Wonderful in so many ways. The food is excellent. We enjoyed lovely Sweet and Sour Chicken Cantonese style with egg fried rice. The location is special. This is a first floor restaurant facing the Clyde River front on West Clyde St. Many tables have stunning views across the Clyde estuary.To avoid disappointment it's advisable to book window tables in advance. Restaurant interior is cosy with a traditional feel about it and staff are very friendly and attentive. Prices are reasonable. A really great dining experience.

Booked table easily, welcomed by friendly staff who were very attentive to my friends and myself. Food was served piping hot and good portions too. Overall I'd go back there as we had a very enjoyable experience.

Visited restaurant at 1.10 for lunch menu to be told it closes at 2. Asked what would happen if not fed by 2 would we be asked to leave? Yes we were told we close at 2 . So why don’t you advertise a time for last orders??? Very disappointed

Go to this restaurant on a semi regular basis for a Saturday lunch. Went on Sat 20.04.24 everything was great until desert. We were the only two left and asked for a banana fritter to be told the kitchen closed at 2pm, this was 2.02pm! Really was a bit rude surely if the kitchen was closing at 2pm it would be manners and good customer service to ask about desert prior to the kitchen closing! Anyway plenty more good restaurants to explore in Helensburgh!

The Ruby has played a very big part in my life. I have been many, many times over the years and have never been disappointed. On the night I proposed to my wife we went to the Ruby for dinner, on our 10th wedding anniversary we went again and we were presented with a beautiful plated display, and we were back on our 20th wedding anniversary recently and again were presented with another beautiful plated display! The staff as always were very friendly and even as the restaurant began to get busy they still found the time to chat with diners, this is the way restaurants should operate, so well done and thank you for making my wife and I's anniversaries special.

Very disappointed with our take away meal tonight,sweet and sour chicken sauce so watery with no pineapple, onions or peppers that states it comes with on the menu. Worst sauce ever , chicken balls dripping with grease Sauce went straight into bin.. been using this restaurant for years but unfortunately the standard of food has declined.

Despite not booking in advance we were made very welcome and quickly seated. The view from the first floor windows was amazing. Service was great and our meals arrived very quickly. All extremely enjoyable and not too expensive.

Truly fantastic restaurant. Staff were amazing food was excellent . Cleanliness top Mark's. Service excellent. I met up in helensburgh with an old friend I had not saw for 45 years. Picked the best place to meet. The staff could not have been more helpful told us we could stay on and blether as much as we liked. Topping us up with more tea and not charging us. Never experienced such a Top class Restaurant. Most definitely be back. My friend who came from Livingston also commented said she had a wonderful time. In the Ruby and she would travel through with her family and go again.

The owners and staff are very friendly. The food is of a very high standard. Its a delight to dine there. the attention to detail and the quick response to anything you want will simply blow you away We were a party of nine and the speed of all courses that were served was phenomenal. A truly wonderful night.

My sister in law and I ordered a take out Chinese and I drove to the town to get it, I think the interior is fabulous, really clean and something a bit different. There was a slight glitch with the card machine when paying, but the lady I was dealing with sorted it out pronto and was really apologetic and threw in some extra prawn crackers by way of apology. The food was super nice. I had the sweet and sour scallops which were absolutely awesome and tasty and a really unusual thing to offer on a menu - I’d never seen it before but I’ll be looking for it again - and the sweet corn soup. My baby niece also tried one of my scallops and loved it and absolutely inhaled the sweet corn soup. We will defiantly be back :-)

Superb Chinese takeaway. Ordered an waited at restaurant, great friendly service. Good menu. Only add to wait 10-15mins. An the food was superb, so much flavour.

Belated birthday lunch for partner, booked a table for a sea view. We regard this place as the best Chinese Restaurant for fifty miles around, we go regularly and have never been disappointed. If you like good Chinese food.....go here!

Microwaved food cold around edge, small portions, worst special chow ever, cheeky argumentative staff with diabolical service, stressful. It gave me and my friend the trotts.

Visit at lunchtime with grandchildren. Lunch selection great. Children enjoyed selection of food. Meals were piping hot. First class service excellent.

We took our parents here. They're very "meat and 2 veg" sort of people who struggle with modern times. They lived the food, the professional staff and the atmosphere. Excellent.

Service was excellent and staff really really nice and cheery. They went above and beyond for my sons 16th birthday. Banners and sparklers in the cake etc. Food was average though as there was 14 of us there and no one said it was amazing although it was nice. Not a knockout meal.

Had dinner tonight after being recommended from staff in our hotel. Honestly the loveliest food and the service was excellent. What struck me was every single member of staff was so accommodating and friendly. Highly recommended.

The interior could do with a refurb, but apart from that it’s a nice restaurant with lovely views of Helensburgh and the Loch. I went for the lunch option, which was excellent value for money. Two courses for £8.95, we also received some free Prawn Crackers. The food was nice and the service was quick and efficient.

Expensive and very bland food. Meat was tough. On a better note the staff were lovely & helpful too.

Don’t waste your money the food is disgusting I got a carry out meal last week as I was told it was a great Chinese maybe it has changed hands . I won’t be back and it wasn’t cheap either awful 😞.

One of the best wee places in Helensburgh, I'm so glad they are back. The lunch menu is great, the portion sizes are perfect, and the service is friendly. And the views can't be beaten!

Fantastic food at a great price! Two course lunch menu from £8 and the service was brilliant. My wife had chicken curry which was lovely and i tried char sui Tam for the first time and it was so tasty. 5 stars! The view out over the water was also very nice. Thanks guys 🙂

overpriced sorry very overpriced, charges nearly £5 for what we counted 13 prawn crackers, meat was tough portions were small for the price, then to make matters worse they have the takeout menu at the door that's less than half the price to sit it? they price the menu as if it had a mitchelen star, it certainly does not, only paid the ridiculous price to not make a scene

Been here a few times. On our last visit the service was poor. We recieved our starters before our drinks, and when leaving we left cash on the table with bill only to be then chased down the stairs by a member of staff and confronted outside on the street infront of multiple people because he had counted our money wrong, was very embarrassing

I've been going to the Ruby since the 1980's and was back there on Sunday night after a 2 year COVID induced gap. TBH I was a bit disappointed. Service was pretty slow and dishes arrived at different times. The menu has shrunk, and the food wasn't quite as good as before. I will go back, and hopefully it will be back to its former glorious self.

So disappointed, we have been going here for years and the last few takeaways have been not up to there normal standards. So sad to say we need to go somewhere else

Myself and my wife attended the restaurant on Wednesday night. I ordered a special. It was steamed sea bass. Its was perfectly cooked but it would have been nice for the chef to ask me if I wanted the bones taken out. I had to do this myself and ended up with mouthfuls of bones. Yes I ordered it but I have been asked if I would like it de boned in other restaurants. Very pleasant restaurant with beautiful views. Lovely friendly staff too. I'll be back 🥘

We went to The Ruby for my daughters 21st birthday & was totally looked after from start to finish , the staff couldn't do enough for us, letting us in early with balloons & a cake , to serving us a beautiful meal , then playing music & bringing out her cake , great place, beautiful food & lovely staff many thanks xx

We had a wee visit last night to the Ruby for the first time in a few years. We got one of the window seats which I would recommend, although they are for couples only. The service was great and the food was nicely prepared and delivered quickly after the order. Staff were very attentive, polite and courteous. It was quiet for a Friday, 'though we were in around 5.30pm. We will be back!

The best best Chinese in the whole of Helensburgh and probably Scotland. The king prawns are always delicious.

Lovely friendly family run place, beautiful views and cute little booths. We got lucky with the window seat! Food was delicious (more authentic than some Chineses in the UK!) and we had vegan options. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

Not the best meals I've tried, also asked for one flavor or meal and got something else, in our opinion the special chow mein just wasn't

Our meal was over an hour late, while sat waiting, when it eventually arrived, it was cold and tasted awful...don't think I'll ever be going there again! Wanted to return the unopened and untouched diet coke but they refused and said it was already ordered...bad service and food.

Awful customer service don’t recommend. Was told the delivery order will take 30-40mins. Called back after 1.5hr to be told that my order is nowhere near cooking any I will get refund

Such a nice place, kinda hidden away above the usual high st restaurants. This gives you an excellent unrestricted sea view (if you get a window booth).

Had a window-side table with a stunning view of the estuary (which I recommend requesting). The staff was very friendly, and shared with us Chinese eating traditions. The food was very delicious, 100% recommend!

Family meal booked for Saturday night.6.30pm6 adults 1 high chair. Squashed round this tiny table very uncomfortable. After sitting for 20 mins with no menus we had to ask management for one. Made our order sat waiting for a while. Around 30 mins after we were seated a table of 4 came in, obviously more regular diners than us. They were immediately asked if they would like to move to a bigger table ‘for more room’ I heard management ask them. Meanwhile 7 of us are squashed round this table unable to move especially when Starters came! Preferential treatment for locals, bearing in mind we travel over from Balloch several times a month for takeaways and sit in meals.I had a 2 year old toddler with me, after a long time waiting I had to take her from the restaurant outside to occupy her! 2 hours we waited on our main meals, 8.30pm came by this point the service was so bad we had been offered a free drink to compensate for the wait by management.Asking how long our dinner would be, we were told they were unsure as we were in the queue and wasn’t started yet. May I also add the table of 4 who had been moved to a more spacious table were digging into there main meals at this point having arrived 30 mins after us!This was the final straw we asked for the bill to pay for our starters. Worst £80 I have ever spent. We were actually very upset by the whole experience and ended up travelling back to Balloch and picking up a carry out from our ‘local Chinese takeaway’.Never again will I come over for a meal, service was so poor and felt very uncomfortable! I understand the place was busy but you should be better staffed, and reduce the amount of takeaways you are doing through a dinner service as you obviously can’t cope with the demand and your restaurant diners are the ones who are suffering.You have just lost a good family for custom!

They took our booking last minute, table reserved, window seat is definitely the best. Great service, food and drinks came in good time. They never hurried us out very accommodating as I took my time with my 3 course meal. Wouldn't fault anything. Super happy with this place been twice now will definitely come again.

This is an easy five stars. Just returned from a lovely meal. Staff were lovely and very welcoming. They couldn’t do enough for you. The food is perhaps some of the best chinese food we’ve eve had. Flavourful, fresh and delicious. Absolutely gorgeous. Can’t fault it would highly recommend this restaurant. The decor is lovely also. Very cosy. Little booths. Felt very private-like we had our own space. A very nice experience indeed. Thanks Ruby.
