We picked this pub to stop at on our way to the ferry over others because the website says it has a kids play area. The staff told us on arrival that it was removed when it was refurbished and the only part was a tiny table and some expensive vending machines. So instead of our daughter getting some fresh air and exercise she ended up crying for pots of sweets and toys from the grabber machine. At best it’s false advertising. Food was fine, as you would expect from a chain pub but the wait was 45 mins. I suspect this is due to a lack of staff, they seemed to be running round constantly unable to keep up. Will look elsewhere if doing this route again.

Extremely embarrassing small WW2 ration-like portions and poor quality Sunday Roast served on Mother's Day. Given a tiny gravy boat with only enough gravy to cover my meat. Had to ask for more and was given a very large gravy boat so why couldn't we have had that to begin with? I would not eat here again. I wanted to try somewhere new and I wish I'd sticked to what I know now. The Sunday dinner was very poor. Poor quality meat and obviously from-frozen vegetables, not fresh. Felt like rations, not much on plate compared to other pubs. Tiny amount of gravy which did not cover everything. Had to get up and ask for more. I was embarrassed that we had such poor food and portion for mothers day. It was like prison/hospital quality food and child portions not adult portions. First visit and will not return or recommend. We were sat there laughing at the food and we then went and ate somewhere else. We were still hungry! Only given one Yorkshire pudding and told we had to pay £1 each if we wanted another one. Service great, can't fault the service. Atmosphere good. They just need to upgrade from hospital grade food to Sunday carvery grade food. We laugh at it now and I have already told my neighbours and my friends about how bad the food was and how we were served a child's portion each instead of an adult portion.... I wanted to treat my mum for Mother's Day...it was a shame. We did have to go to another pub and order another dinner in order to feel full. As paying customers, we should not have been given such pathetic and embarrassing food.

Perfect food after a busy morning at football. We were served by Jamie & Kearney, both friendly and polite. All the staff here at lovely, hardworking and really chatty. Food has improved hugely since the new team took over, and the Steak & Ale was delicious 👌🏼

Food time was over half an hour and when the food arrived it was just terrible. Had the chicken dinner for the Sunday lunch and I can’t remember eating a worse 1. I normally love a Sunday dinner but I actually never finished my plate. The Yorkshire pudding was soggy, chicken lukewarm and the gravy just horrible. With the bar service slow at best it wasn’t a great experience and I will not be returning.

Visited with friends for some drinks. We had great service from Jake behind the bar very welcoming. We will be sure to return.

Food inedible all 4 burgers dry and burnt steak so tough it cut your mouth when eating it. Sweet potatoe fries that overcooked there was nothing inside them

Visited for our first family meal in over 6 months, it wasn't our first choice but other places were fully booked or with a strict limited menu. And we're very glad we did. Great variety menu, prompt service by friendly staff in a clean safe environment, the food was really nice too, it was so nice to actually eat out! Thank you all for all your hard work.

Visited the Goldcrest yesterday evening. The first time we've been since lockdown was lifted. We have been many times before covid, and always been satisfied. We had a very lovely meal, as usual. Very accommodating staff, as we arrived just before the kitchen was closing! All safety measures were in place, and on arrival they were explained to us, by a very pleasant young lady. Staff are friendly and helpful, nice surroundings, lovely food at great prices! What more can anyone ask for. Will definitely visit many times again in the future.

Popped in for lunch yesterday on what should have been our wedding day in Las Vegas (cancelled due to COVID). The staff were brilliant, very polite and friendly and the food was great, 2 for 1 and then half price again for eat out to help out. The Goldcrest really have gone the extra mile to ensure customer safety in these uncertain times. We have been a few times now since we live locally and have always had a great time. Thank you x

Visited with family, was greeted by a lovely gentleman at the door who informed us of the current process since lockdown. Food was good, puddings delicious and well sized, jam roly poly was to die for. With the eat out to help out offer and 2 for 1 cost was minimal. Children enjoyed being able to play outside and everyone followed social distancing. Overall was a pleasant visit and will no doubt come again.

Came for breakfast on the first day of introducing it, nice warm welcome from the manager and Shannon the assistant manager who is lovely. Everything set out really well for social distancing, best I’ve seen so far. Breakfast spot on and really tasty. Will definitely be recommending and going back again soon.

Since lockdown has eased , I decided to pop into goldcrest for a pint one evening. I got greeted by the manager at the door and they explained what rules were in place due to government guidelines. I then proceeded to the bar where got served by the assistant manager who was lovely and polite. I have been in a couple times now and everytime, the whole team are pleasant and polite and there is a good atmosphere with good background music. The team are working hard implementing and adhering to government guidelines and doing regular checks of the toilets and cleaning tables down and you always see them wiping down contact areas like handles on the doors etc. So worth a visit for a pint or 2. Keep up the good work

Been twice now, first time on opening day everything was excellent all social distances in place and had a good time as alwaysWent yesterday for a couple of drinks then had some food too, as always was top drawer, staff and landlord so friendly definitely recommend to anyone.

Always come in a few nights a week with the wife for a couple of beers. Service is excellent all the bar staff are really friendly and helpful.We eat in quite a lot too and the food has improved 100% since Rich has taken over, so get along (once it reopens of course) you will be surprised the difference now.

Had a lovely meal at the Goldcrest with my family about 3 weeks ago, the mega rump n scampi is my fave, great value for money and great service. Thanks to all staff for always making us feel welcome, good job!!

We were living on Victoria dock temporarily and used the Goldcrest as our “local”. Normally avoid 2 for 1 places, but got to say, we were pleasantly surprised. We dined there 3 times in total, as well as popping in for a pint. Both mid week and for a Sunday roast. I would definitely recommend this venue. All the meals we had were fine, hot, good value. Think the manager is very good and runs a slick operation.

Visited this pub today, the staff were very polite and helpful, the menu has a lot of choices and a special board too, the food was excellent and didn't have to wait to long for it either, bonus is that all main meals are buy one get one free, which is good and the puddings are lovely too. We'll worth a visit.

Me and my wife visited here and we went for the Sunday roast wish we had had something else no taste at all to the food the gravy was like water and the same as the veg tastless I had the beef I could of used to re sole my shoe very disappointed we have been before a few weeks earlier and the food was nice so I guess it might be a bit hit and miss if we do go back in the future it will not be for a Sunday roast that is for sure

Not been here for a long time. The last time we visited, the food wasn’t very nice, glad we came back tonight. My husband ordered gammon, Andy I ordered steak, but swapped the chips for a jacket potato and a side order of veg. Both meals cooked to perfection and very tasty. It was also refreshing to see the manager, clearing tables and seating people very fast. We will definitely be back soon.

Me and my family often come here, especially when it's a celebration, staff are so friendly and welcoming. They will literally do anything to make your time an your meal an enjoyable experience. The food is amazing, generous portions, always piping hot and delicious.

My partner and I like to come to this pub at least every fortnight. We love the atmosphere, friendly and welcoming.

It's been 4 years since my last review here, although we visit about once a month. Went a couple of weeks ago for a Rib-Eye dinner - the steak was top quality, perfectly cooked with equally well presented sides. Returned a couple of nights ago for their Thursday Special; 2 steaks and a bottle. The rumps were good size once again, perfectly cooked with lovely sides. Included in the £20 price was a bottle of very pleasant Hardy's Aussie Rose. Very fast service and nice, pleasant staff. The pub is always clean and let's face it, for £20 you'd be hard pressed to find better value for money anywhere. Well done Goldcrest - Highly recommended!

First time to Goldcrest and it didn’t disappoint! Food was fantastic - lots of choice and good portion sizes. Our server (Shannon) was excellent - polite and knowledgable - and nothing too much trouble. She answered all our queries regarding menu selection - even gave recommendations! One of the dessert options we’d selected wasn’t available but we were promptly informed and offered an alternative. Will definitely be back .

My partner and myself eat here quite regularly we can not fault the place staff and management very friendly and welcoming and the food is lovely great value for money we mainly get the Sunday roasts 2 for £12 how can you not drinks are very reasonably priced too

It's amazing how much the pub has been turned around for the better since Shannon and rich joined the team. Used to visit and nothing but complaints now I have nothing but compliments. All the team do an amazing job and kitchen team have also improved. Eat and drink here all the time now. Happy customer

A group of us went for a meal at the Goldcrest at the weekend as this was a easy, central place for us to meet. I had never visited before but will be going back again. The food was lovely and very good value and our surroundings were comfortable. I feel I must mention Emily, who served us at the bar and also brought our food. She could not have been more helpful, even though our order was far from straightforward!

Recently visited the gold crest for a mid week family meal. Have nothing but praise to say about the food, staff and atmosphere. One server (callum) was particularly helpful and friendly. Definitely will be returning.

We went for a meal on Christmas Eve and thoroughly enjoyed it, food was excellent and staff were friendly. Highly recommend Goldcrest to everyone with a very good selection of meal choices that seems to cater for everybody.

My wife and I visit The Goldcrest at least 2-3 times per week, mainly for a couple of beers after work, and at least once a week for a bite to eat.

Visited gold crest on Sunday 4 of us. We where greeted by a young happy smiling team. We ordered the Sunday dinners the food was very good and we didn’t have to wait that long (20mins) and at 2 for £12 excellent value. Whist eating we where asked if everything was good which it was. We decided to stay for a couple of drinks as the atmosphere was also good. In all a very enjoyable afternoon.

Visited with family on a quiet Saturday lunch time. Me and my mum both Ordered a sandwich with Portion of chips. They were tiny sandwiches with about 6 chips, at £6.50 I’ve definitely had better value for money elsewhere. Also, there’s no option for just 1 drink at a cheaper rate then endless re-fills. Our ‘kids meal’ was ok. Nice little play are for them which was a bonus but unfortunately the food wasn’t good enough for me to return.

We have lived on the dock since July, so we are kind of new to Goldcrest, but it has quickly become our local, and we go in quite a lot. I'm a fussy vegetarian and the Vege lasagne is spot on! Comes with a good bit of salad and garlic bread. Always hot and filling. Keep up the good work, all the staff and the new manager are lovely. Looking forward to more entertainment, and quiz nights. Also looking forward to the David Bowie tribute on Saturday. :)

A lovely pub in a lovely area, food was lovely & presented with care is a two for one on all items on the menu, good selection of beers etc as well.

Had a great time with all the family to celebrate our sons birthday food and service was excellent and to top of off we got 40% off the bill will be back again soon

Offers on different foods through the week, as well as the 2 for 1 offer. We had the tikka masala, which was fabulous and filling. We will be back! Friendly staff, who made us feel welcome.

My family visited today and we were pleasantly surprised. The food came very quickly, the food was lovely, the portion sizes were very good and the price was very reasonable. The cheesecake was excellent! Will definitely be visiting again soon.

Today I had chicken with garlic mushroom, grilled chicken was succulent and cooked perfect and the garlic mushroom sauce was absolutely delicious.it came with new potatoes and seasonal veg. I will definitely be ordering this again. Top marks to the chef . Service was also excellent. friendly and efficient staff .

We have eaten here a few times, as now it is our new local. We have never been disappointed with our food! Always hot, and yummy. I'm a vegetarian and the Vege lasagne is very very nice. The prices are good and the beer is good. Lovely and clean, and the staff are always lovely. Keep it up brilliant!

I recently won a competition and won a meal for two with a drink, the service and cleanliness of the pub was good overall, but I feel the food was not upto the usual standard when we have been before, wether it was rushed or because it was complementary from the competition I don’t know, but the food wasn’t great to be honest, glad I didn’t pay for the meal this time

Had a lovely Sunday roast (lamb), vegetarian pie, and two chicken goujons burgers here....followed by cookie dough dessert. Would defo go back, great service.

Great meal, great customers, spot on. Always come here if we go for a meal, very handy as we live nearby, but we wouldnt go if it wasnt a good meal. Also 2 for 1 so not expensive!

Decided to gave tea before theatre and decided to go after a long time, we both had burgers one chicken one beef all well prepared and cooked in this friendly pub. What makes it affordable is the 2 for 1 offer making it very tempting. Friendly efficient staff and had no issues at all

Took my children here for lunch. They loved it and so did I. Really well priced and tasty. Staff were very polite and attentive. Pub was very clean and tidy and the kids liked playing in the park. Lots of vegan options too. We will be back!

We visited at the weekend for lunch with friends. We have been previously and found the food varying in quality. This week after waiting 55 minutes for our meals, they came.... what a waste of time. The chicken and ribs were sent back, the chicken was so dry and the sauce on the ribs had dried, and how anyone can dry a corn on the cob to the extent it was really does have skill. We told the duty manager who took my plate and replaced with another dry piece of chicken and nothing else. The rest of my plate came back cold. The steak and ale pie was soggy underneath and lacked meat content. The fish and chips..... I’ve seen better portion size in a pack of 4 from heron and the quality was the same. Our friends all had burgers. The burgers were very dry, like they had been kept under a heat light for a longtime and then a slice of cheese chucked on the top before putting in the microwave. I know chefs can be critical but out friend refused to eat. The portion size for all meals were very disappointing. We found ourselves going to another pub for dessert and spend our money. When we told staff they just said sorry and then hid in the kitchen and avoided our table.....

Nice day out with the family, wanted to go to hull for the deep, local places came up and goldcrest came up, I said to the family I didn't want to go as came 2 weeks ago with a friend and was not happy then, put a complaint in about the management to head office, as in there isn't any. And guess what 2 weeks later no response, this has put me off marstons pubs all together, is this really how they run a pub. Anyway came in tonight waited an hour and 10 mins for food, told after 40 mins it was being plated up, to wait an extra 35 mins for food that was not as described is wrong. Not happy.

What a lovely pub. Team are friendly how ever over an hour waite on food and nothing being sent out from the kitchen. Such a let down. Lots of tables waiting for food ?? The supervisor was very help full. But I feel it is let down by lack of management. Where are they on a saturday night ? As a publican I would not reccomend this pub due to slow service .

Eaten here many times, always good value, good service. Just had a super steak, salad and Herby potatoes, really enjoyed it. Other half had steak and chips etc. 2 drinks all under £20. Lovely and clean, friendly service. Hard to beat!

But then the meals came out one by one. Order some extra sauces which didn't clearly show allergy advice. When arrived and asked the server no clue. She didn't care. They lost out business and we will never return. Such a shame
