We decided to take our Mum somewhere different for her birthday. This place ticked all the boxes, food was delicious (so many tasty ingredients, especially the toastie, even the salad was amazing), gorgeous views, wonderful staff and not one single complaint for our group. We could have sat there all afternoon, in fact we kind of did! Lots of space inside and out for a lovely Autumn day so it doesn't feel busy and you aren't sat on top of other tables. This is definitely one of our new favourite places and we're looking forward to trying something else next time! Having a stroll around the lake, seeing the swans and sheep after lunch was the icing on the cake. And talking about cakes, I'm not usually a cake person but had to try one when I saw them. Just wow!

Very disappointed in the choice lunch we made. Greek salad with olives had stones in. Goat Filo very tiny and definitely not worth the price. Should have come with some sourdough bread. I left hungry and went to Whitehall Garden Centre for tea and cake. Far too many dogs.

Lovely place to have lunch on a Sunny day ☀️, we decided to eat inside, to stay cool. We both ordered a cheese, brie melt with onion chutney, my friend is gluten intolerant which they could cater for. Price was £11.50, which we thought was rather a lot until it was delivered. Salad looked lovely, rocket with cucumber and a vinaigrette, curried coleslaw and a sweetcorn salad, all of which was delicious. For me the melt was very large and I took half of it home, gluten free bread not as large but it was very filling never the less. I would definitely recommend 🙂

Pretty miserable experience. Utter chaos when ordering. You’re supposed to be given a buzzer to be notified when your order is ready, but they had run out of buzzers. Waited 20 mins for two coffees and a further 30 mins for two bacon and egg sandwiches, which when it arrived really wasn’t anything to write home about. „Restaurant“ is effectively a large shed with plastic walls and a load of outdoor seating, mainly tables of six, forcing strangers to share tables, which doesn’t do much for privacy. Really wouldn’t bother to go again. Photos on here, both of the building and the food, are misleading.

This is a quintessential English village restaurant attached to the glove factory but stand alone. The selection on offer would please all, freshly cooked and the coffee is good too.Sit inside or out it was clean, tidy, and cozy. Today we had a goats cheese dish and a dall dish absolutely cracking, and by the way all dishes and cups etc are recycled.

We weren't expecting it to be under canvas. Not in a warm room but it was ok we looked forward to a hot breakfast but we were disappointed. Breakfast came in a box more like a workman's cafe. The sourdough bread was so greasy i think it was fried nto toasted. It spoiled the experience of eggs on toast.Vegetarian was avocado with egg all piled in a bun. We won't be going back there.

Had lunch here again today and as ever the menu was different with a great choice of dishes. The food was superb and its great that they consistently produce such high standards. The staff are extremely helpful and are good at explaining the menu when assistance is needed. The atmosphere isvery relaxed and it's nice to walk round the lakes if you have time. The only negative (reason for 4 stars) is the cutlery. They have switched to a different type of enviro friendly recyclable but it's not up to the job. Two of us got through 6 forks and 4 knives as they were too bendy and flimsy. It did mar thevexperience sadly so thos does need resolving. Metal and washing springs to mind?

Location is nice but there are things, I feel, need addressing - everywhere the ground is gravel. How does a wheelchair user or a parent with a pushchair get around the cafe? Prices are quite high but where is the value? Paper cups, paper plates, queue to order and pay, get buzzed or shouted at, to go and fletch your order, go to a table to pour yourself milk from a jug that everyone else has touched (Covid wasn't very long ago). Put your rubbish in some dustbins by the entrance. Charging extra for decaf that's annoying too.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

Having visited Holt a couple of weeks earlier to walk around a nearby National Trust garden we were keen to return there to see the progress of the mass of purple crocuses. We set out with a plan to visit the garden and then visit this café for a snack lunch. Due to opening times at the NT property we had to change our plans and visit this intriguing eatery first. This highly recommended café sits on the fringe of the old Glove Factory site; there are repurposed buildings, having been converted into business studios, workshops and meeting rooms. We had walked past the this café building on at least 3 occasions, but it had been closed. Today it was open, and we promptly walked around to the wooden-framed entrance on the side of the building. We were surprised to discoverer that the café is housed in a permanent steel-framed lean-to marquee, with the kitchen and servery housed inside the host permanent brick building. The floor was just loose sandy coloured stone chippings on a membrane, and the walls were large clear plastic sheets which were an integral part of the marquee fabric. The tables and chairs sat directly on the chippings. There was a wood-burning stove which was providing sufficient heat to make the area warm (but, given that of was about 6C outside, we felt wise in keeping our coats on). It looked as though on (much) warmer days the back of the marquee could be partially opened-out to provide access to a modest sized patio area which had tables with seating as well. The servery sat in front of the kitchen and offered counter-service only. As you ordered you were given a little wooden disc (about the size of a coaster) with a name of a herb (e.g. ‘Chamomile’) written on it. That herb name was called when your order was ready to collect from the servery. This worked well and we collected our order of two Americano Coffee’s, with our hot milk already available in a pouring flask further to the right on a separate counter area. Cold milk was in another flask, plus sugar, cutlery, and cruets etc. for food. The coffee, served in eco-friendly paper cups, was really good and hot; so we sat in this almost surreal location and enjoyed our coffee. The view out of the back was pasture land, and access was possible into a walled pasture which featured a couple of small lakes. After our coffee we took a walk around the walled pasture which offered a connection to a public footpath, but it looked far-too muddy to take advantage of, on this occasion. One of the lakes appeared to offer an opportunity to swim. There was a shepherd’s hut which served as a changing room, this connected to the hut to the larger lake via a concrete path. So, probably we will visit another time, and perhaps we might get that snack we have been promising ourselves. The menu on the blackboard, to the left of the servery, offered breakfast between 9:00 and 11:30. Ice cream, cake and drinks (including alcohol) are served until 16:00. Perhaps when the weather is better we will be able to choose from a wider selection of snacks and not just breakfast (we were too late for breakfast today).

My husband had a goats cheese and beetroot filo tart and I had sweetcorn and potato hash with an amazing soy dipping sauce. Alongside that you had a fresh salad and a carrot and lentil salad. The coffee was spot on! My husband also enjoyed a scrummy chocolate muffin. We have a dog who was very welcome too. I would definitely recommend if you are in this area. Visited this quirky cafe. Nice views of lake and countryside. It was a very hot day so we just had coffee and cake. The cakes we both had were delicious. Nice seating area outside. Inside is nice and covered but for us too hot on the day inside. Luckily we found a table outside with an umbrella to shelter under. Most of the tables didn’t have an umbrella which seemed a mistake on a brutally hot day. Would go again though to try the salads or sandwiches.

We stopped here after visiting The Courts but from the number of people here I'd guess it is a destination in its own right. There's a large car park here too and a good sized covered seating area with nice views. There is a good menu with plenty of lunch and snack options. The food was superb and delicious although it was pricey. The lunch options seemed a good price but our bill was distorted by expensive cakes I think. Anyway it was a lovely time and really good food in a nice environment so you get what you pay for.

This café is part of The Glove Factory site. There have been several different café/restaurants here and I've used them all over time. This is by far the best in my view. It's housed in what I think is called a temporary permanent marquee. there are also outside tables for better weather or hardy types! the tables are well spaced out and there's a good air flow. But even better the coffee is excellent and so were the croissants. And well priced and served. Although it was busy when I went there was no delay.

Perfect little lunch spot serving fresh, simple modest but very tasty light bites. The 5 or 6 lunch offerings change each week to keep some nice variety. My wife and I really enjoyed our respective goats cheese filo parcel and sausage roll both served with a yummy chilli jam. There is covered and uncovered seating which hopefully stays warm enough as winter starts to kick in. They thoughtfully offer blankets and had a big fire pit outside.

We went to The Field Kitchen today as we wanted to use the space to have coffee, do some work and then have lunch. The coffee was good and the cake delicious, I've never seen false eyelashes served in the saucer as a side before, but as this is a quirky place we let them be... In a space where there were clearly others working away at their laptops we thought that we would be able to login as guests and get some work done. This was not to be, we were unable to login on either of 2 computers or 2 phones. We asked other guests in the cafe who gave a couple of ideas and asked the cafe staff who could not help in any way. We decided to leave without lunch. We then waited ages at the counter, while staff busy at an iPad or just walking through ignored us. We have been happy using this venue for coffee meetings or lunch meetings before - but cannot now imagine returning or recommending this to others.

The Field Kitchen came up on a TripAdvisor search of "Wiltshire restaurants with a view". No view whatsoever to be found here. It is an extremely strange atmosphere - one of my daughters likened it to a "educational centre". It's in the middle of nowhere - a lovely country village - but it looks like an industrial, urban, clinical canteen. It's a very confused and incongruous place. Extremely overpriced, too (both daughters ordered the Farmers Breakfast - which came without the advertised black pudding – no explanation for its absence – and one mushroom instead of "mushrooms". That meal cost a tenner. It felt like a fiver's worth at most. Positives: Staff were lovely, and unlike many of the other reviewers, we were served quickly. Won't be going back.

I'd been before, last year, found it a bit pricey, but the location, decor, and atmosphere were compensations, up to a point. On re-visiting for lunch with a friend, we both left disappointed. All the edges of the experience were disappointing: it took too long to order, to long for the food to arrive, there were no knives in the cutlery stack, and our table was unpleasantly sticky. The decor is now looking a bit tired. My quiche was good, but the tomatoes in the salad accompanying it were distinctly mushy - I wouldn't have served them at home - both the salad and slaw were mediocre. And £9! My friend ordered a bacon sandwich on brown bread -perhaps not the best combo, I grant you, but what was listed on the menu as a 'light bite', arrived with great slabs of doughy bread concealing a tight portion of frazzled bacon inside. Who wants all that stodge? She left most of it. And the balance on the flatbread/hummus was off, too, a lot of flatbread to a rather stingy small pot of hummus. Come on, Glove Factory, scenery and eclectic chairs are all very well, but diners want good food, and this was not good enough, not at London prices.

This was our third visit to The Field Kitchen. It’s a beautiful spot and a lovely contemporary space. The menu offers simple, well sourced and tasty food. The service has never been particularly speedy but this time it was dreadful. The place was a little busy but not packed. On ordering our lunch we were told there was a 20 minute wait for food. Not a problem. However, after waiting for 40 minutes I asked a server how much longer it would be. She didn’t seem bothered in anything really, in fact she couldn’t have been more indifferent or lethargic. She drifted off to the kitchen and came back to say it would be another 20 minutes. So what they said would be a 20 minute delay turned into an hour with no apology from the server and no information provided. The guy behind the bar was apologetic and offered some complimentary drinks and cake but they were obviously having kitchen issues that day. A shame, because it has great potential. They just need some staff that care about customer service and a better kitchen team. Would recommend for the environment and food but don’t expect much efficiency.

This place was great when it first opened but has gradually deteriorated. Service was always slow but the food was usually worth the wait - that’s no longer case. We waited nearly 45 minutes for our meal & when it finally arrived my ‘Smashed Avocado’ breakfast comprised two stone cold poached eggs, one mean sliver of bacon, a sliced (certainly not ‘smashed’) avocado & some crumbled feta that tasted distinctly off. My partner’s poached eggs & mushrooms were also cold. We ate it because we were very hungry but that’s our last trip to the Field Kitchen. What a shame, it was such a lovely place to begin or end a walk to Chalfield & the best location for outdoor eating in Holt - perhaps the owners, knowing this, feel they don’t have to make any effort.

My wife and I popped in for a coffee and pastry today, after enjoying a pleasant walk. The serving area is clearly visible to the public and my wife was very upset to see a staff member pick up a pastry by her hand, put it on a plate and then deliver it with coffees to our table. Particularly, since she had been stroking a dog only seconds earlier and clearly did not wash her hands! Beware people if you have an impaired immune system like me. I also am allergic to dogs and could have had a serious reaction.

We are regular visitors to the Field Kitchen in Holt West Wilts and can highly recommend it for its quiet rural setting, modern surroundings, excellent coffee and food and friendly young staff. It also has a large car park which makes parking easy and the land around is well provided with footpaths for dog walkers and others to enjoy walks. It is also children friendly. Of all the places around Bath to enjoy coffee, breakfast, or lunch, we consider the Field Kitchen to offer the best combination of setting and facilities.

Being an ex employee (not bias) the care which goes into the menu for the customers was really brilliant and inventive , For a cafe/restaurant to be to such a high standard in littlest Holt is a real treat for anyone local.

Very slow and poor service, lost food ticket which isn't the first time this has happened so end up waiting 40 minutes for soup and a sandwich. Disappointing compared to what it use to be. Not worth the service.

Had enjoyed several coffees and a very nice lunch at The Field Kitchen. It's open plan with lots of seating both inside (canteen style) and out. Good choice of food and drinks on the menu. They are licenced. Lots of parking. Worth a trip.

We went to visit a National Trust garden in Holt. The main car park is behind the village hall, but if that is full they send you down the lane to the Glove Factory. Turns out not to be a factory any more but studios for small businesses that have outgrown the back bedroom and the garage. Looks like a nice place to work.

Only visited for a coffee & cake, waited for nearly 10 minutes to be served, staff seemed rushed off their feet and didn't really now what they were doing, nearly every table was dirty and hadn't been cleared. Lovely coffee and lovely views.

Used to visit regularly and fancied a salad plate for lunch. Loved the different vibrant salads on display that made this cafe special. Really disappointed that the format has changed - the food and coffee were ok but the ambiance has changed. The acoustics were terrible making it hard to have a conversation so everyone in the place was upping their volume - staff did turn the music down which to be fair was a lot quieter by the counter. Great outdoor space, child and dog friendly just such a shame about the salads which were worth traveling for.

We have been to the Glove Factory a lot of times and used to really like it, great pizza, salads etc, friendly service and a nice place. However, yesterday it was very different. The amazing displays of salads and cakes were gone and the service can only be described as chaotic. Our drinks came after the food, several people came to take our order after we'd already ordered and then we were brought a drink we hadn't ordered. We had two Mezze boards which seemed very small for £9, tiny portions of everything. Some of it was really nice, but the aubergine was barely edible and we both normally love aubergine. I wonder if the staff has changed and we're not sure we'll go back.

Having ate here before and had a good time I thought it would be good for a birthday meal for 4 on a Monday lunch time how disappointing it was. 2 Steak & Stiton pies ordered although very tasty lacked Stiton and was meant to be served with veg we had to ask for the veg which when it arrived after several minutes the excuse was we only have 2 microwaves not the excuse I wanted, the other 2 meals were fine, unfortunately we will not go back.

We visited on a Sunday for breakfast. Arriving a couple of minutes after 10am (opening time), we queued for a table and then again to order food. There were plenty of tables but appreciated it was busy - not all tables were full. We waited for 50 minutes for our food to arrive, although coffee arrived much earlier. This was prompted by us asking where our food was/checking the order had been made, to which we were told ‘we’d just have to wait because it was busy’. The food arrived 5 minutes later. The food was tasty and we’ve no complaints about the quality or price. But, something about the system here just doesn’t make sense, queuing at every point and then waiting another 50 minutes for scrambled eggs on toast and a bacon sandwich, doesn’t make sense. We arrived at 10 and didn’t leave until 12:15…. People had started arriving for lunch! Sadly, we’d not return. There are just other places nearby that are doing it better.

The location of this establishment is strange because the shop/restaurant sits within what is essentially a business park in the middle of nowhere but it is not hard to find. The setting was ideal for a summer lunch with lots of variously covered areas to shelter from the sun or rain if it happens. Then you realise that all these covered areas are, in fact, the restaurant! I saw no evidence of indoor seating. The main seating area is fundamentally a plastic marquee attached to a shop unit and all the seats are picnic benches. They have an interesting menu, which changes regularly I understand, and it is obvious that this establishment is not trying be a full all ‘singing and dancing’ restaurant and they do make that clear. It uses locally sourced quality produce for Deli style light meals, specifically lunches, and also snacks. The people running it are personable, welcoming and efficient. We found them very helpful and attentive and the food was delicious. Overall, the food menu is a little overpriced I feel but not excessive. That said, a few dishes do seem “over the top’ for what they are. It is the shop where the prices are eyewatering expensive and I think they have gone too far. I can here them now saying that they are supporting local suppliers and that this comes at a cost but times are hard and I do truly believe they, or their suppliers, need to face reality as the pricing is far too high. We need to support businesses like this but they have to respond too! Did I enjoy my meal? Yes, fantastic, Would I go again? Yes, definitely! Would I encourage you to go? Yes definitely! I just warn you that your visit will be enjoyable but not cheap so be prepared.
