Great atmosphere in the dining car today. Tables full with locals and visitors enjoying a tasty lunch served with a smile. Chef Duncan uses local ingredients and team Manja and Ella provide a welcome smile and good service. The diner closes for the winter soon so if you haven’t booked, do so now.

Unique space, superb food, excellent service. The Dining Car must be one of the most unusual dining spaces in the West Highlands... in an original railway carriage, it feels like stepping back in time and with the Glenfinnan Railway Museum right beside it this is a must for railway enthusiasts. Delicious food beautifully presented, the highlights for us were the platters of home smoked produce, the crispy haddock open sandwich and the baked cheesecake. Exceptional quality for the price and the staff are all super friendly and helpful. Book in advance to ensure you aren't dissapointed because it can get very busy and you really don't want to miss out!

We visited recently and enjoyed this on every level. Arrived earlier than my booking time but Marta kindly fitted us in. The food was perfect, the ambiance was wonderful and the scenery stunning. A truly marvellous experience for us both. You will not be disappointed but would advise for you to prebook especially in Summer. A gem which sparkles and will continue to do so as the family pour their heart and soul into this business. Thank you

The best place to go for taste and great value meals in Glenfinnan. The diner does Wednesday night dinners and does not disappoint.

Arriving only 15 minutes before the Jacobite train we found that almost all the parking was gone. I dropped off my wife and grandson near the viewpoint and gratefully was allowed to park in the last spot in the lot below the station museum dining car. After the train passed we all walked back and enjoyed scones and tea in the dining car. It was the most delicious snack and welcoming place we ate in all of Scotland. The old eating car was a curiosity and after we ate we took some pictures of our grandson jumping into the air on the broomsticks provided at the platform.

According to the website this place offers teas and light lunches, however I’m afraid the only thing that I found here today was atrocious service at the hands of a snobby waitress who apparently deals only in condescension. I was brought here today as a birthday surprise, during what was inevitably a difficult day after the sudden loss of a beloved family member, but I’m afraid what was meant to be a nice end to a lovely day was somewhat ruined after entering this place. When we entered we were met by a lovely young man who confirmed we could chose a seat “anywhere we liked”. As it was incredibly hot, the hottest day of the year in fact (and the dining cart was employing fans in an attempt to cool the scorching temperatures inside), we decided upon the one table which was shaded from the sun. Having worked in the service industry myself while at university I know how busy things can get, and since the table was dirty, we began to clear up the tissues that were strewn across the table by previous guests. While doing so the waitress in question, a small, older woman with short cropped hair, rushed over to us and told us (not asked) in a very curt manner “excuse me! sit at another table, I haven’t cleared this one, you can’t just sit anywhere!”. I was extremely taken aback as to why she would be so rude and uppity about us simply choosing a seat so I explained that the gentleman at the front had told us to sit anywhere we liked, and as it was the one seat that was out of the sun we chose that one. She then told me, in the most condescending manner in which I have ever been spoken to that “no, you can’t sit at dirty tables until I have cleared them, you need to go somewhere else, go over there and I will call you back” honestly, it may not seem like a big deal but the way in which I was spoken to was atrocious and so rude. Being asked to move would’ve been fine, if it was said in a polite and friendly way and not in such an utterly disrespectful tone. After that we decided just to leave, not wishing to patronise somewhere which had just treated us with such disdain. I doubt negative reviews will have much impact - this is a small area and tourists will always come so the audience is captive, but do not expect a warm welcome or a kind face. I shudder to think that this woman’s horrible attitude could be the first impression someone has of Scottish hospitality. I know it was a hot day but nothing warrants treating others with such a disgustingly rude and patronising attitude. When we left we were treated to a smirk and an overly loud “bye now” - says it all really.

Stopped here by chance...and so glad we did! Great friendly service, great food and something different - also offered some calm from the excitement of the viaduct. CT

Saw the sign at the side of the road so stopped to investigate. So glad we did as we found a charming setting for a lovely lunch.

The dining car is cosy and pretty. That is not the best though - the best are the people working there, they are extremely nice and considerate for children. Our children both got special editions of items on the menu, and all the food were freshly made and delicious. Exactly what we needed after walking to the viaduct from the station to see the Jacobite.

We were advised by friends to have lunch here and I am so pleased that we did. We took my son and his girlfriend, we received a lovely welcome, it was a glorious day so we chose to eat outdoors although inside was atmospheric.

The goat’s cheese and pear chutney salad was really nice - lovely staff and great surroundings at Glenfinnan station. This is an original dining car with limited seating inside but with additional seating outside. Definitely worth a visit.

I got told to stop of here by a friend who used to pass it all the time and had never went in , he knew I would like it and he was right it was the perfect brunch stop for me I love trains and it's fantastic that you get a free entry to the small but educational train station museum if you have something to eat in the dining carriage , I went for the soup and sandwich deal with a large coffee and wasn't disappointed with any of it not even the price , if I'm passing this way again I will make sure I stop, I never normally leave trip advisor reviews for anything but pubs and restaurants but this diner carriage deserves a bit of praise true Scottish heritage with decent food nice walks around perfect if only I could have had a beer

Won't be back the owner is so rude . If you pay for drinks in a pub hotel . You expect a thank you. Total anti children our three year old was chatting and we Heard the owners rude comment about him . Also we took her seat . The poor lass who runs hand and foot for this person is so friendly it's the only reason we stayed so long . Won't be back and won't recommend to any of our family and friends that visit the port . Maybe someone will take over the Caledonian and make it a hotel and pub again . We have been visiting the port for 40 years and haven't experienced the unfriendly signal we got from the castle hotel .

What a fantastic find on our recent visit to Inverness. Brilliant wee cafe with extremely friendly staff. Great menu and selection of fresh cakes. Lovely relaxed atmosphere and to top it all they are doggy friendly which meant we didn’t need to leave our 14yr old pooch in the car. Would definitely recommend a visit.
