Glenfinnan House Hotel Restaurant in Highland

Wedding party held here 25 years ago and returned for a celebration for my wife's 60th birthday. The hotel has been refurbished to a very high standard but keeping the impressive features of a Highland Baronial House. The quality of the food was excellent, great service by friendly staff. The location overlooking Loch Sheil and the monument comemorating the raising of the Standard in 1745 is unparalleled. An overnight stay for dinner, bed and breakfast iis not cheap but worth every penny.

Absolutely fabulous find in Glenfinnan. The hotel staff is great, the food and the service are top marks. The portions are of great size and the food exquisite. You have two options to eat. At the restaurant or at the bar.

Absolutely fantastic take away fish and chips. Generous portions and freshly made. Phoned in and pick up time arranged. No hassle what do ever and just the job after a day on the beach.

We had a lovely evening meal in the bar area. There was a clear focus on Covid 19 safety measures with temperature checks on entry and plenty of space between tables. Food was lovely, we tried soup, venison pate and duck terrine as starters which were all delicious. Most of our group then had rib eye which were cooked excellently, my fiance was especially pleased with his warm blue steak. Staff were very friendly, attentive and polite. Venue has a nice calm ambience.

Well-sourced ingedients superbly cooked by all the kitchen team. They do take non-resident bookings, so, if you're in the area, make a bee-line for this restaurant. Possibly the best scallops I've ever eaten.

We stopped here for a warm lunch on our visit to the Viaduct. The food was delicious with a good selection of vegetarian options too. The staff was very hospitable and there is a good selection of spirits behind the bar as well.

Really delightful service from the new barmaid. We popped by here on a cold damp Friday afternoon. The hotel is very pleasant with comfortable surrounding. We ended up sitting by the wood turning stove chatting with the new barmaid who is a great asset to the place. We had a tasty fish and chips and goats cheese salad. The prices are reasonable for a hotel on the nc500. I’d recommend the place.

Booked a table ahead of our visit to the area, glad we did as it was busy on the day we visited. Good procedures being followed with Covid -19 door was locked so controlling who was in and outside, took temperature and shown to table. Good choice on menu and we had several different items, all were lovely presented, very good quality food and clean plates all round. Lovely surroundings and well worth a visit.

As a non resident of the hotel we were made most welcome for dinner in the restaurant. Everything was outstanding! We had been in a very well known 4 star hotel a few days prior and the levels of service were worlds apart. Glenfinnan House hotel outshone by a long way. Food, service, location was fantastic. We hope to return and possibly stay at the hotel next time.

Staff were lovely and super friendly. The main dining room has beautiful views from the huge window down to the loch. The food was good but it is a little bit overpriced for what you get I feel - you're paying for the environment I think. We had rib-eye steaks (£27 each) - one was spot on and one was too well done for medium rare. Overall a good experience.

We had seen the house when we did the Loch Shiel cruise and had booked to come back to do lunch. The food was fantastic, the building charming and the staff were so welcoming. I would highly recommend.

Arrivés après de nombreuses heures de marche dans un Glenfillan saturé de voitures, trempés par la pluue, nous avons été chaleureusement accueillis et avons notamment pu déguster les fameux Haggies écossais avec une belle vue sur le Loch. Prix honnêtes pour la qualité des plats.

Nous cherchions un resto car nous étions bloqués suite à un accident.Ils étaient complets mais nous ont quand même fait attendre un peu et nous ont trouvé une table. Personnel super sympa et serviable. Très bel endroit sophistiqué et belle vue. Niveau plat, tout était vraiment délicieux!!! et la note pas trop élevée, vraiment une très belle surprise!

We opted to eat here for its convenience,but the food was outstanding. My husband and I both had steak, but the true favorite was their special truffle oil parmesan fries. They were SO delicious and something my husband mentions as a highlight when talking about our trip.

We ate both breakfast and evening meal agt the Restaurant. The food was done to perfection. I highly commend the chef. You will not be disappointed in any of the meals.

Splendida la location di questo hotel-ristorante, direttamente affacciato sul Loch Shiel. Anche l'interno è di grande atmsofera, tutto in legno con trofei di cervi, quadri e stampe d'epoca. Riguardo al menu c'è la lista delle vivande, mentre su una lavagnetta sono riportati i piatti del giorno. Buona la scelta tra pesce e selvaggina, qualità ottima in generale, compreso l'haggis (si può scegliere tra starter e main course); discreti anche i dolci. Prezzo nella media. Nel complesso mi sono trovato bene (c'è da dire che da queste parti non c'è una grande scelta), e senz'altro lo consiglio.

Meals at the Glenfinnan can either be taken in the bar , or the restaurant. It the same menu in both. We opted for a group table in the latter , which was really quite special. The soft lighting, and the views eastwards towards the monument and (on rare clear days, Ben Nevis) coupled with traditional Scottish decor create a good atmosphere and ambience for dining.The menu is quite varied, using a lot of local produce, but this is supplemented by a number of specials according to what is available locally on the day. Several of these were really great , but be warned there can be limited availability and they might run out if you dine late. Both locally caught seafood and fish , plus wonderful local venison really showed up the skills of the chef and his team, and we enjoyed by all our party. Breakfasts were also great with "The Full Scottish" being particularly popular and deservedly so. The only minor point for us was the presence of canned music which could not be turned off it seems., however this was compensated by live music in the bar on some nights.

The hotel offers superb views along Loch Eil . We visited on the day of the annual Gelnfinnan Gathering.hotel staff also help out with catering at the games but it does not detract from the first class attention. The dinner was excellent with excellent choices and reasonably priced, served by an attentive staff.

Un cadre de rêve pour ce restaurant charmant au décor et à l'ambiance écossaise à l'ancienne. Le bâtiment est magnifique, juste au bord du Loch. Nous avons mangé côté bar dont l'atmosphère est plus détendue, façon vieux pub.

Es de esos sitios que uno no puede dejar pasar. Muy cerca del viaducto de Glenfinnan, merece la pena parar a tomar un café o un té.

Upon the recommendation of our Airbnb host, we reserved a table at glenfinnan house. What a beautiful setting and wonderful meal. I had the trout, and my husband had salmon. Their soup special tasted like it was right from the garden. I recommend this restaurant wholeheartedly!

We had a large family celebration at the hotel, with 17 of us enjoying lunch. The staff were very welcoming and professional and were very accommodating as it was such a large group. The food was delicious and the location stunning. We would return without hesitation.

I stayed and ate here while working in Mallaig for a few days. The hostess was great and the food was amazing. Rooms are clean and cosy. Derek

Restored house ambience that invites you to try small plate offerings. We had venison salami, chicken liver pate, home made breads, beet salad, et.al. This was a very pleasant surprise that is off the beaten path a bit near Glenfinnan tourist area. There are also nice views from the lawn areas.

We went to Glenfinnan House Hotel for dinner 😊 it was so delicious ... my husband got a ribeye and different kind of sideorders. I got goat cheese and roatbeet ravioli and crispy sweet potato fries 😋 This was so yummi 😋

It’s no wonder this restaurant has won Best Executive Chef and Best Bar Food 2019. In addition to the best Fish and Chips we have tasted, the setting is amazing, on the shores of Lough Shiel. Definitely worth a stop if you are travelling in the Highlands.

If you are in the area, I suggest eating here. The food is superb and the waitstaff is wonderful! Have drinks in the lounge and look out over the stunning Loch Shiel.

Después de luchar contra el tráfico y navegar por un estacionamiento limitado en el viaducto, fue un respiro para ir a la Casa Glenfinnan a almorzar. Justo al lado de la carretera principal hay un camino corto y tranquilo que te lleva al restaurante. Pasamos unos ciervos y disfrutamos de las vistas del agua. El servicio era amable y nuestra comida era deliciosa. Al estar cerca de una parada para turistas, generalmente desconfío de los restaurantes que generalmente se enfocan en el volumen en lugar de la calidad. Mi precaución en este caso fue definitivamente injustificada, nos trataron bien y me encantó la hamburguesa de venado (lo siento) y papas fritas. El resto del menú también se veía bien. Nuestra mesa ofrecía una vista del agua y del Monumento Glenfinnan. Sin duda volvería a comer aquí.

Este hotel está en un entorno encantador con vistas al lago Shiel. Es un hotel de casa de campo tradicional y es muy relajante. Hay un menú variado con énfasis en productos locales. La masa en el abadejo era crujiente y delgada. La salsa tártara era casera. El entrante de pescado ahumado estaba delicioso. Estábamos demasiado llenos para probar el dulce menú! ¡Volveremos!

Los dos teníamos salchicha de venado con puré de papas y salsa de cebolla roja. Para el postre elegimos el especial que era una mousse de chocolate belga con frambuesas y galletas de mantequilla. ¡Tan bueno!

Had a lovely meal here. We were staying in a cabin down the road but we were still made so welcome here for dinner with our dog.

Normally we eat in the bar but it was a busy night so this time we ate in the gorgeous dining room with the most fantastic views. The service was excellent and so friendly and whilst the restaurant is gorgeous it doesn't feel too formal but has a lovely atmosphere. As for the food it was absolutely superb with the Ardshealach roast smoked salmon served with pea shoot and cucumber salad, trout cavier and a dressing was simply delicious and the chicken stuffed with chorizo, with rosemary potatoes, red peppers and a fantastic dressing (can I have the recipe please :-)) and just an explosion of amazing flavours creating just the perfect chicken dish.

I stayed here for two nights recently and I was absolutely delighted with everything. You feel like you're in a home away from home. The furnishings were comfy, the staff are friendly, the food is amazing and it really gives you a chance to reconnect and recharge the batteries with lots of walk paths available.

A favourite of local friends who took us here for dinner. The food was delicious and the service and setting excellent. Also impressed by the range of interesting beverages. Try the haggis - it was recommended and did not disappoint.

What a fantastic restaurant to go to for that 'special' meal. It is by no means cheap, but for a meal of this quality it is by no means 'out of the way' either, if that makes sense. The smoked sharing platter to start is superb and I’ve never had a better sirloin steak anywhere, any time.

We stopped by for lunch after a long drive. We found the restaurant quite delightful, with fine views across the lake. Food was surprisingly good (I had venison sausage), & the distinctly Scottish ambience charming. A great restaurant

Chef Duncan makes the most of local meat and produce and he and his team provide wonderful meals. From mussels from Arisaig to local venison, from ales to whiskys, the restaurant consistently provides excellent meals and a pleasant experience.

Had been travelling the peninsula and the Glenfinnan was recommended by a local. As it is sort of in the middle of nowhere we did not know what to expect. Lovely setting, the bar, a little step into the past looks out onto the loch. Good selection of spirits, wine and beer. One whole page with vegetarian options, yeah. Lots of choice for the meat eater. The venison was reported to be excellent. Overall a very pleasant meal, would return if in area.

Our dinner wasn’t planned... we choose Glenfinnan House and we weren’t disappointed!

We stayed her for one night and were very excited to see all the awards around the walls, so expected great food, our steak was certainly more rump than sirloin, the peppercorn sauce was thin and very acidic, almost like tomato soup, the onion rings did not resemble rings but were bits of batter deep fried in what tasted like dirty oil, roast vegetables looked grey and boiled. Expensive too, sent both meals back hardly touched, no one bothered to ask why nor offer an alternative, paid £60 for basically eating 4 boiled new potatoes!

Popped into this hotel before we went on a boat cruise on Loch Sheil. We were glad we did. We ordered the fish and chips with minted mushy peas which were top notch and both my partner and I enjoyed them. The setting of the hotel was great as well looking out onto the loch and the Glenfinnan monument. It was everything we had imagined of a Scottish hotel. We both loved it. The service was excellent as well as was information we received about a quicker way back to the railway station which cut our time in half when we had done the boat cruise. I definitely recommend this hotel for a tasty affordable meal.

The ambiance of this place was superb and fitting for the Scottish Highlands. We are in the bar where the view was stunning of the loch. Food was also superb and not overly priced. Would love to have stayed

We ate three meals here. The food was quite good and the ambience. And while the service is new....a bit green....they were mostly friendly. What ruined this restaurant for us was a very grumpy “head” waiter who could not be bothered with any special requests, like egg whites for breakfast. She said it’s just not possible to remove the yolks. When we asked her to check with the chef, she disappeared for “too short a time” and lied that the chef could not do it. When we later asked for a bag of ice for an ankle sprain, she gave us two cubes, when we asked for more, she sighed loudly and rolled her eyes as she filled the bag so full it would not close. I could not believe that an obviously senior staff in an otherwise lovely hotel would treat guests in this manner. 5 stars for the hotel, 4 for the food and 1 for the witch straight out of Harry Potter. She needs another line of work behind the scenes.

Very impressed with our meal. We ordered a mixture of different starters and main meals and everyone was very happy with their food! It was absolutely delicious!

My wife and I had lunch there waiting for the famous 3pm train on the nearby viaduc. It was a really nice experience and the staff was nice. We came back for tea as we waited to come back in this dining room facing the loch. We were lucky enough to see deers!

Have visited several times over the years when we have been in the area. Our recent visit did not disappoint...our food was lovely with the haggis hot pot and fish and chips a favourite of the group. We didn’t book so had to wait a little for a table (we would book next time!) but was more than worth the wait.

Als Gäste des Hotels hatten wir das Glück, eine Woche jeden Abend hier ein Drei-Gänge-Menü essen zu können - und jeder Abend war fantastisch! Besonders großartig sind schottische und britische Spezialitäten, die hier auf besonders gute Art gemacht werden: Fish and Chips, Whitebait und sogar Haggis [ich hab es nicht mit Innereien, aber meine Mitreisenden beteuerten, es sei ein Highlight]. Die Desserts waren durch die Bank traumhaft. Dazu kamen jeweils aber auch internationale Gerichte, ich liebte vor allem das Steak und die Wildgerichte. Ich kann einen Besuch im Restaurant nur empfehlen und werde das Essen so schnell nicht mehr vergessen!

Stunning location, Great looking grand country house, Great menu, Great choice of Vegetarian meals, friendly staff - shame we couldn't stay overnight at the hotel itself (already staying elsewhere) as I'm pretty sure we would be raving about that too !

Of course you pay for it, but the steak was great. Dining was pretty, wait staff attentive. They even used real candles which I haven’t seen in a while.

Despite having a relatively captive audience (small town with limited choices) this hotel offered really good food at a good price.

Everything was great. We had gourmet gin and tonics with house-made garlic/paprika almonds after a hike. It was so good, we made dinner reservations. We shared a wonderful fish and meat sharing platter and a huge portion of mussels. So good and such a pretty location and building.

Over our stay, my husband and I enjoyed dinner and breakfast at the property. The oysters and mussels where very fresh and the fillet of Scottish beef was very tasty. That said, at breakfast we did find the potato scones oily and my husband ordered poached eggs which where overdone. At all times during our stay and our meals, the staff where amazing.

We stayed in the area for a week. We had visitors twice and used the fish n chips service two separate nights to save cooking. Very tasty and freshly cooked. We booked a table for two & our dogs for our last night. They are busy so it is best to book. We have starters off the daily specials menu - oysters & pate, followed by monkfish & steak.we even managed to squeeze in desserts! I had two different gins (from gin menu) while other half had lager. The place was very busy (bar area) & we noted st leafy a couple of tables were turned around. Food fresh & fantastic! I actually like the decor in the hotel which looks like Morris wallpaper & wood panelling with a selection of Scottish pictures.

We enjoyed everything about our overnight visit except the food. We were pressed for a reservation time, even though we were staying there and it put limitations on our freedom to explore the area, but two tables were empty the entire dinner. Don't believe the hype.

Lovely romantic meal in the restaurant. Fantastic views, service and food. Beautiful seafood and steak. Would definitely go back. Good range of wine, gin and whiskey.

After travelling all day and arriving too late at our B&B; for dinner, we were recommended by our host to try the Glenfinnan House Hotel.

We had a lovely evening meal as part of our short stay. The smoked sharing platter set the scene magnificently and then our mains of steak and salmon were superb, beautifully presented, accompanied and cooked to perfection. No room for dessert, so coffee in the drawing room was the perfect way to end a memorable night.

Le pub de ce restaurant est très cosy. Jolie vue sur le loch. Très bonne cuisine. Un petit plaisir abordable.

Dobbiamo ringraziare Ellie e Barry del Ardarroch Cottage B&B; che ce l'hanno consigliato, tra l'altro ad accompagnarci è stato il mitico Barry vista la serata di pioggia, appena arrivati siamo rimasti colpiti dallo stile Scozzese una struttura antica ma ben tenuta, la cena è stata davvero molto buona, vi consiglio di fare attenzione nell'ordinare perché magari si può incappare in qualche pietanza tipica che non può piacere, comunque io e la mia famiglia siamo rimasti davvero entusiasti.

We were staying at the hotel so it was the obvious choice for dinner, though I think we'd have come to eat even if we weren't staying over, as the dining room has great loch views! Food was good if a bit simple (we had a lamb shank served with potatoes carrots and gravy) but there were choices to suit everyone on the menu so I think if we'd had another night we may well have enjoyed a different dish more. Would recommend a visit!

After a ride on the Loch we stopped here for lunch.A lovely room in a warm hotel setting on the Loch. We had brown trout, mashed potatoes with leeks, and a lemon tart with berries. A very satisfying lunch with unobtrusive but attentive service.

I visited this place to eat one afternoon in Glenfinnan. As I did not stay at the hotel, I came as an outsider, but this was not a problem. I got at good seat with a view, which was impressive to say the least.The food was quite good - not sublime - but definitely one of the better meals I had during my 14 days in Scotland. The haggis hot pot vas very delicious. The staff was a bit quiet, but friendly (for instance, they ), and I got a very good whisky after asking the bartender about it.

We are staying at the lodge near the hotel and decided to pop along to the hotel for a meal. What an absolute disaster, in no uncertain terms we were told by the tall foreign bearded dark haired manager that as we were not guests we could not book a table as the people staying at the hotel may prefer the table we have booked and he made it quite clear we were not welcome. The idea behind the meal was for a future booking as our friends were staying at the hotel. We then joined them in the drawing room only to be screamed at by the same man not to sit in there as it was for hotel guests only - our friends, along with us were very embarrassed and upset by the rudeness of the staff member.Another point very relevant to this was our vegetarian meal of steamed couscous with chargrilled Mediterranean vegetables £12.95 which consisted of a small portion of couscous surrounded by 2 tomatoes chopped up and 3 slithers of red pepper. We complained about this but were told by the same awkward, rude staff member who shrugged his shoulders and said well what do you expect its vegetarian. The total cost of our bill for very little was £84.00 and to be treated with such disrespect in such a customer unfriendly manner was very distressing and clearly unacceptable. Their recruitment policy needs complete review.

This Hotel was recommended to us by the Guest House we were staying at, on arrival (2 Couples) although the Restaurant was fully booked an additional table was set up and we enjoyed a lovely meal from the Menu of local choices. The staff were friendly and service to a high standard and Mid range of prices. We thanked the proprietor of our Guest House for the recommendation.

We stopped for a coffee after we did a 2.5 hour cruise on Loch Shiel. the staff were friendly and polite the coffee was great and the location superb it was a great place to stop. From here we visited the Viaduct, the Monument and also the lovely little church in Glenfinnan.

The best of local produce, portions are very generous too. We had venison salad followed by trout with capers and almonds and haggis hotpot followed by beef casserole. No room left for dessert! Priced fairly given quality and portion size. We sat in the bar with views over the water. Recommend.

My girlfriend and I were staying nearby, so we went along without any great expectations. The house has a genuine feel, with lots of old paintings relating to Highland history. We were surprised to find the menu looked rather good and was reasonably priced. Unfortunately I couldn't take advantage of the real ale on offer as I was driving. We enjoyed some of the light bites (eg Venison Salami and Oatcakes) rather than having a starter. The main meals we had were excellent, sat in the bay window and looking out over the head of the loch at the mountainside, and watching the swifts and swallows feeding over the lawn. The staff are really great, with nothing being too much trouble.The only negative point, without which I'd have given five stars, is the constant (quiet) piped bagpipe music. It's unnecessary, ridiculously cliched and the place would be better without it.

Stayed in the hotel and ate in the dining room over looking the loch. Super food, excellent specials menu and other menu. Well worth a visit.

We hebben hier enkel gegeten (dus niet overnacht), maar na deze maaltijd wouden we blijven. De ontvangst was zeer hartelijk, de ruimte zeer gezellig. Het uitzicht terwijl je eet is ook betoverend. Het eten is absoluut uitstekend. Ik zou hier meteen terug naartoe komen voor een langere periode.

We love coming here every time we are in the area and it never fails to please. The food is lovely and the atmosphere wonderful. We especially love sitting by the fire with coffee and shortbread.
