Giuseppe's in Portsmouth

Ordered a spaghetti bolognaise for collection, picked up right on cue, amazing service and when I got back to the air bnb I was blown away by the quality of the food. Probably the most gorgeous Italian food I’ve ever eaten. Must check this place if you are in the old town / southsea common area. Bienissimo 👍

On Saturday 26th April between 23:00 - 23:15 pm , I was walking home from the gym where one of the staff members accidentally stepped infront of me and apologised , I said it’s not a problem at all and went about walking home , as I got past the restaurant and walked further down the road , I heard another staff memeber shout and cat call me in Spanish over my headphones. I turned around and saw the two staff members laughing . The member of staff who shouted in Spanish said along the lines of “ hey beautiful lady where are you going with that A*s “. as I confronted them back in Spanish they seemed shocked that I spoke and understood the language. The first staff member was bald and was wearing an all white uniform ( possibly a chef ) and the second was wearing a black sleeveless vest top , with a chain and curly short hair. The bald member of staff shouted “ oh no , I’m Polish , he’s español” and proceeded to walk off and leave the other man outside. I then asked him in Spanish “ what the hell did you just say to me “ and he stated “ oh no , I didn’t say anything “ in a laughing tone and sarcastically. I further more confronted him in Spanish and walked off home. As a 22 year old masters Uni student this is disgusting and appalling. How can staff members behave this way to women walking home at night alone . I will be coming into the establishment to take this further and have action taken into place. I have long looked forward to dine here as I have heard positive things from my friends , and now am sure not to. Awful behaviour and not acceptable

It was the worst Italian food I ever had. Wouldn't recommend coming here. Ridiculously overpriced for what they serve. The quality of food is very low. Avoid this place.

2nd visit and still excellent!!! Good food, great welcome and typically Italian restaurant. The managers/bosses take great care of you. Don't hesitate and come and taste their Italian specialties (Risotto, escalopes, pasta and their super tiramisu 😍). 5/5!!!

Another FIVE STAR EXPERIENCE with a friend at Giuseppe’s in Southsea. Fantastic engaging service, with the same staff that have been there years. That’s a good sign!! I wanted a slightly different dish to what was on the menu, but nothing was too much trouble. I had the juiciest King Prawns on the planet. Then to finish off we had the biggest and tastiest Tiramisu in town. Really mega!! I cannot recommend Giuseppe and his highly talented staff enough. It is worth driving from East Sussex to Southsea just to soak up the amazing food and atmosphere. House red was outstanding too. Well I have had my Giuseppe fix for another year!!!

An absolute pleasure to eat in a truly traditional, family run Italian restaurant. The food was brilliant. I highly recommend the rabbit, which took be back to my childhood at my Grandmas. It’s everything an Italian restaurant should be.

What a lovely place! I took the family out for dinner (7 of us) and we had a great time. Comfortable atmosphere, great food, fantastic service. The wait staff were charming and friendly. They were a bit forgetful (had to order a few things twice), but we didn't mind. It was actually a bit comical. And I couldn't understand the Italian guys too well, but they were absolutely lovely, and it just added to the charm of the place. The calamari had good flavour, but it was a bit tough (this is often the case in restaurants). Other than that, everything was delicious! I wasn't expecting much from the House Red Merlot (house wines usually aren't great), but it was very nice wine. As were the cocktails. I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs and it was probably the best spaghetti and meatballs I've ever had. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food and the atmosphere. We will definitely go back.

We recently dined here with 2 friends on a Friday evening. The restaurant was full, and it soon became obvious why. This was the best Italian meal I have ever had in a restaurant. A little bit of advice for you, go when you are very hungry, as the portion sizes were enormous! Sadly the photo was taken after we had started, but I am sure you can get the idea! Great friendly staff. Joshua our waiter was very polite and friendly, and gave us a great service. If this restaurant was not a 4 hour drive away from us, I would be a regular customer. Thank you.

Went for dinner, last minute reservations, thankfully we got a table as was busy. Lovely traditional staff, huge portions for the starter and huge main, I think we would share starters. Food was so tasty. Bill was high for 4 people but it was a birthday celebration, thus a tad more drink than usual! A very family run and traditional environment. Would go again. A little trouble with the Italian/English vocabulary.

Best Italian restaurant we've been to! Very large portions! Loved it 💕. Music was slightly too loud which made people talk louder which then made it even me noisier.

Had a great time here. The food is excellent although portions very large! Atmosphere was very lively but not overbearing. Service was a bit slow but it was very busy so no real problem.

Tried Giuseppes seeing reviews and wasn't disappointed. The food was really good,pasta was amazing and kids ate everything. Everyone was friendly and really enjoyed our meal.

A must visit if you are in Southsea. The food is excellent and the service is incredible. Warm and friendly service which makes this place really stand out. No ask was too much effort, with Italian charm and wit throughout. One of the best Italian restaurants I have visited.

Pizza was cold, I had to reheat in the oven. Hardly any anchovies or artichoke, far too many olives, pitted green and black not what I expect on an authentic Italian pizza. Over cheesed therefore not enough time in the oven. I have eaten in this restaurant and the pizza for delivery is not the same standard as the restaurant. Very poor, very disappointed, not very happy!

Giuseppe's was excellent. It felt like you'd really been transported to Italy. The staff were amazing and friendly and the chefs cooked the food perfectly. It felt very authentic. Couldn't recommend more.

This place is incredible! So glad I got the chance to go. Heard it about it from friends, so glad I went myself. Nice location, excellent food, good drinks, and the staff are something else. Everyone working there are so friendly, welcoming, funny, all of them beam with joy while they chat with customers. Their comradeship is amazing to watch and be in the middle of. The decor, seating arrangement, and the staff really defined the atmosphere, felt so warm and welcome. Our table ordered the lobster, swordfish, fettuccine alfredo, which we shared and tasted. Everything was made to perfection. Food was great and good portion of sides. I personally felt like my order was expensive, thankfully I split the bill with a friend but was worth the cost for a good night out.

I wish I could score more, a fantastic traditional Italian restaurant with all the Seafood, Steaks, Pizzas and Pastas 😋😋 Will definitely visit again, when I visit my grandson at Portsmouth University.

This is the first time I've ever left a review on google. If I could, I would give this place 10 stars. Great atmosphere, great service, great food. Went for a birthday celebration and couldn't have gone anywhere better! I wish I took some videos as it was so entertaining, the staff and owner had us crying with laughter! "Limoncello on the house!" They could not have catered to our needs anymore if they tried. Will definitely be coming back here. (Homemade tiramisu is a must-have).

Recommended by friends to go, maybe we got it on a bad night! The food was good, service average, dining chairs were bad, the noise (shouting/screaming happy birthday by one of the staff) was too much. Not a typical Italian restaurant as I would say. Would not go again. Disappointed.

The owner is really nice, and you can tell he loves his place and enjoys cooking. But it took 20 minutes for someone to come over to us and more than an hour to get our food. This was during lunch, and there were only 2–3 tables of customers, so it wasn’t busy at all. The food, unfortunately, wasn’t good, not even at home-cooking level, and it was way overpriced. Overall, it’s a nice, quiet spot with a lovely owner, but the food is ehhhh, overpriced, and the service is really slow. I wouldn’t recommend it.

Came here for my birthday and had a wonderful experience. Both the starters and mains were huge portions, great value for money! Our server Albie was so lovely and very attentive. He gave us complimentary shots which was greatly appreciated. Everyone should go here! Best Italian restaurant I've ever been to!

The portions are huge and it is excellent value for money as well. The staff is also very friendly and they will give you free grappa wine and also candy. You might also receive special upgrades (I had two lobsters instead of one) Really recommend this restaurant (the best Italian restaurant I’ve ever had in my life)

I tried to book a table via email but was informed they were fully booked. My husband called the restaurant (didn’t realise I had emailed) and managed to get a table, so it’s probably best calling to reserve. That being said, the restaurant was full all evening and we could see why. The staff were so attentive and had some great personalities, we were laughing a lot. I had the prawn cocktail to start, my husband had the scallops. For main we shared the pepperoni pizza and chicken penne pasta. The portions were generous so we couldn’t finish it all. I would have liked the pasta to be a bit more creamy as I felt it was a little watery but still enjoyable. My FiL said the lobster linguine was brilliant. It was very warm inside the restaurant so we did have to step outside a few times to cool down! The Merlot wine was very good. I would highly recommend Giuseppe’s, a fun evening with great food and wine.

I went on a date here yesterday, and was hugely disappointed by the food. I’d normally speak to the restaurant in person but I was taken here by a date and didn’t want to make him feel uncomfortable. We ordered meatballs as a starter, and these were 100% from a can. I’d had these exact meatballs as a child and you cannot mistake them. Not what you’d expect for £8.95. The rest of the food was also bland and basic. I feel awful because my date spent over £80 for a poor tasteless meal. The service was quick but probably because they don’t cook any of the food from scratch. I’ve had much better meals for half the cost. Definitely do not recommend.

Excellent starters, delicious steak and pizza. Lovely Christmas atmosphere. Somewhat busy, but no problem if having a reservation. Staff polite, ready at all times to serve and to make sure the customers are enjoying themselves. Perhaps a bit noisy at times, but definitely a place to go back to without much hesitation. Grazie! Latest update Oct 2024-took home half of pizza, next day looked at the amount of grease left on the box bottom (olive oil, butter or from topping), very few restaurants do their pizzas this way, love Giuseppe's chef!

Wow! What a place 🇮🇹😍 The location is nice, it is out of the way and a hidden gem of Southsea. Food- It is authentic Italian cuisine and the portion sizes are incredible. The complimentary breadsticks and garlic dip was a beautiful extra. We had the meatballs to start and then lobster and pasta and tortellini with ham. The staff- All welcoming and lovely, we had complementary lemon chello shots too! My husband got given a full lobster rather than the half lobster as we were the last customer of the evening so that was a bonus😍 We will be back🙌

We were told its was dog friendy but we're put on a very cramped table behind the door but this was the only downside to a lovely evening, food was so good with a nice vegetarian selection and the staff very friendly. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

Perfectly prepared Italian cuisine. My husband had the rabbit and I chose ravioli, both cooked to bring out the ultimate in flavor and texture. The service is warm and welcoming. Our well traveled son raves about the seafood pasta. They do get busy and you may have to wait but it's worth it! Make a reservation ahead of time. Compliments to the chef!!

The best restaurant we’ve ever been to! The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating, the food is 10/10 and the portions are extremely generous! We were asked to move tables as we were sat on a 4 and there were only 2 of us… so they gave us a bottle of wine on the house! Highly recommend here, will definitely be revisiting!

We planned on going elsewhere but they were closed so we walked in here after being drawn to the old European atmosphere. The older gentleman told us they were closing soon but he would be happy to serve us. We sat down and he immediately offered us wine. The food was delicious; The vibes were good. In the end he offered us free lemoncillo shots and candy. It was a great experience and we were very happy to have eaten there.

Me and my family went for dinner for the first time here yesterday for my sons 16th birthday and it was a great experience. Food was delicious, staff we're funny and friendly and really felt like a family-run restaurant. One of the gentlemen who was head-of-house was running around being very entertaining. 10/10

Everything was fantastic. Great, authentic Italian restaurant. Stylish interior, moody Italian music, fantastic food. Amazing atmosphere. The table for 6 people was ready in an instant and set in a moment. It started with the olives which were some of the best I have ever tasted. Pizza "Calzone", it cannot be described in words. Grazie per avermelo fatto assaggiare. Everything was fantastic. Spaghetti "Carbonara" was also perfect. Excellent Tiramisu, strawberries with whipped cream,... The beer is a bit weaker for my taste. All the staff and the great chef (Miki?) were friendly, kind and helpful. Fantastic service and a unique place for lovers of Italian cuisine. The owner played a little bit and chased the employees to work (the employees took excellent care of the guests), but that was also part of the atmosphere of the establishment. Finally visited after wanting to visit for a long time & it’s safe to say that I was very impressed! The service was amazing, the place is decorated so beautifully and the food was FANTASTIC & very authentic. I have eaten out in Italy myself many times & it actually felt like I was back there again. Great food and service, nice Italian guy, great atmosphere. Bit pricey but might be the fact I live 5,6 hour from London. Big portions and they gave me olives and free garlic bread, wish I didnt order a starter as I couldnt eat all my pizza but they boxed it for me.

Unfortunately the service and quality of food didn't live up to expectations given the prices. The meals came out in gaps, my daughter had almost finished before ours arrived. I had finished my main before the sauce arrived. Not one I would recommend or visit again.
