Finally visited after wanting to visit for a long time & it’s safe to say that I was very impressed! The service was amazing, the place is decorated so beautifully and the food was FANTASTIC & very authentic. I have eaten out in Italy myself many times & it actually felt like I was back there again. Would highly recommend to everyone :)

Pizza was big, with a lot of cheese and no bazilic, and very tasty.

Great food and service, nice Italian guy, great atmosphere. Bit pricey but might be the fact I live 5,6 hour from London. Big portions and they gave me olives and free garlic bread, wish I didnt order a starter as I couldnt eat all my pizza but they boxed it for me.

The pizza and pasta are delicious but the real treasure is the beautiful people who work here! Authentic and lovely Italians with more soul than we have seen since we were in Italy!

Unfortunately the service and quality of food didn't live up to expectations given the prices. The meals came out in gaps, my daughter had almost finished before ours arrived. I had finished my main before the sauce arrived. Not one I would recommend or visit again.

Love this place, it’s my local and the staff are like family. Super attentive and very funny too. Great food, they make a great deal when you ask for Parmesan or pepper it’s so funny. Love the owner guiseppe he’s an absolute character. 10/10 will come again

Lovely place, real italian food!

Very nice atmosphere, the waiters and their attitudes make all the deference. The food was great and the experience very enjoyable overall.

3 course =£ 35/40. A proper Italian place worth every penny Muscles cooked to perfection and service was more than excellent and would definitely recommend the tiramisu

Disappointed with my meal, I could have bought a ready meal for a fifth of the price of similar quality. Flat coke, but waiter kindly refunded. A shame really.

Really enjoyed the veal in marsala wine sauce. Others had mushroom and chicken risotto and chicken penne. All very tasty. We had dessert which finished the meal perfectly.

I'm in Potsmouth for work and not knowing where to have dinner I consulted the web, having seen the photos on Facebook I was intrigued and decided to have dinner with them, what can I say..... excellent restaurant, good, good, very kind and very welcoming. GOOD.

Only went in for a beer but it had a great atmosphere. Beer was cold and nice seating on the outside. Reasonable prices

Visited with my father who has extreme mobility issues, and they could not have been more helpful. I'm very grateful! The also had GF pasta which my coeliac partner was happy to see! It's hard to get that in Italian restaurants outside of Italy.

This is our go to Italian restaurant when visiting Portsmouth or South-sea. The menu offers a good choice, the food is excellent as is the service. Highly recommended 👍👍👍

Garlic margarine and packet bread sticks. Old discoloured glasses. Water didn’t arrive until the end of the meal. Filet steak not med rare, more like well done. Strange consistency, like tuna steak? Peppercorn sauce congealed, too thick, only tasted of cream.

Love the food and the atmosphere but the service is very hit and miss. 30mins for a bottle of wine! No end of meal service for our table other tables being offered free shots +chocolates. No cocktail menu!

A little slow and a couple of errors with the order but uncle G looked after us with a complimentary bottle of sparkling water. The food was off the dial. Best lobster spaghetti I’ve ever had. So good in fact, going again tomorrow. 👌🏼

First time here, went with a friend. Wasn't sure about the decor but it adds to its charm. Really enjoyable food, service good, the owner loves his job and his enthusiasm was welcoming and friendly, good food and a great evening.

Amazing authentic food and people

Staff were not the most welcoming. They were not rude but just not welcoming. The food was really not very good. They serve you margarine instead of real butter. The dessert that was described as ‘freshly home made’ was actually bought from a store or maybe frozen. Food was just not impressive, which really surprised me for an italian restaurant. You literally had one job. And at least not lie to me when i ask the waitress if it’s actually fresh and homemade. Also, did you know that caprese salad must be made with FRESH and PEELED tomatoes? Seems like not. If you are going to argue all of the stuff i said were wrong - don’t. I am aware of what I’m eating and everything i said here i am sure of.

The food was so good that I actually sprained my wrist from how many Italian hand gestures I did. Doctor said that I should be able use my hand again next week. My whole family are praying I have a speedy recovery so I can for fill my dream of being a professional full time dressage horse 🐎. Great food 5 stars ⭐️

Food and staff were both great. Evening not ruined but definitely made worse by a blonde man in his mid 20s shouting and swearing and acting like he owned the place. He was constantly abusing his friend who remained silent throughout the whole night. This wouldn’t be too much of a bad thing but he seemed to know the staff incredibly well, or at least enough to go behind the bar and pour his own drinks and boss the staff around so I can only believe that he must be a representative of the restaurant in some way. It was impossible to even hear my partner who was sat on the same table as me due to his constant shouting and rage. If it was my restaurant I would ban him for life because he spoiled what was supposed to be a pleasant evening for everyone at the restaurant. He wore a white hooded jumper and had horrible botox and lip injections to the point where he looked like an animated cat. I’m sure if you’re a member of staff reading this then you know exactly who I’m on about. Sort it out.

But have these Italians forgotten how to cook? Or do they think the English won't notice? What a disappointment!! Spaghetti chopped into pieces and overcooked, pizza not cooked enough... moreover, while the menu says "service not included" they automatically add 10% to the bill. It's an insult!

Went with my daughter and granddaughter,had dinner before going to the guildhall,l food was excellent, The secondi time I have been we will be back there very soon

We have been here a number of times. Their seafood is good. The only people in Portsmouth who can actually properly cook a Lobster, without overcooking and ruining it, which takes skill. Their hospitality is also great, with the staff very attentive. The two Italian fellows also add a novelty to the experience, as they are always shouting and joking in Italian. A funny and friendly experience, so I would recommend.

Basically a pub with a dining area. Not too busy on our evening visit and food came quite quickly along with a glass of pleasant house red. Quantities were on the generous side. My only complaint was my affogato could have done with a bit more coffee.

We had gone to Portsmouth for a long weekend away and traditionally goto an Italian restaurant on the Saturday night for a meal. What a wonderful evening! After a little confusion about the booking we sat down to eat and had a wonderful evening. Giuseppe's is what I would call a traditional Italian restaurant with a very homely feel. The food is exceptional, the staff are very friendly (some even put on entertainment!) and the service was outstanding. If we are in Portsmouth again we will definitely be returning.

Lovely authentic atmosphere but i think the lady who served us had had a bad day. Food was a little disappointing . Not sure that fried new potatoes and carrots constitute a vegetable dish but the lamb was delicious.

Absolutely TERRIBLE! Service & food were equally horrendous, family of 7 dining waited over 3 1/2 hours for our mains. All arrived at different times 4 of them were sent back. Would NOT RECOMMEND.

Best spaghetti bolognese I've had in years very tasty and piping hot. My darling wife said that her lasagna was "spot-on". My daughter enjoyed her carbonara saying "that it was one of the best pasta dishes ever", her boyfriend had a large pizza(it was huge!) and said how much he enjoyed it. Good service-excellent food-large portions-will return.

We had a wonderful family birthday party for 13 people including 4 children, we had the best time food was great as usual and Guiseppe gave us a great time thank you all.

What a great time with friends, great food great service and fantastic atmosphere.

If my wife and I hadn’t been in relatively unknown company we would have expressed our feelings to the staff, that’s if we could have attracted their attention. We received dishes ranging from good to poor. Some on cold plates others just cold and to injury to insult the restaurant levies a 10% service charge. If a table of four spend on average of £25 pounds per head incurring a service charge of £10 why does another table of four spending £50 per head incur a charge of £20 do they receive better service? No of course not, that’s why a flat service charge is simply sharp practise! Our guests that live in Southsea recommended Saprono’s but I wanted lobster which they didn’t do. I'll know better next time, just wish I’d followed their advice on this occasion!

Last minute Christmas day booking led to us having one of the best dining experiences. Fantastic staff, amazing food and a great family establishment. Cannot recommend enough. Portsmouth's best?

Good was lovely however table service not so much. Finished our first round of drinks before the starters came, which was an hour and 20 minutes from sitting down. Not asked if we wanted another drink, a person in our party asked for more drinks however was the only person served, despite empty glasses no one else was asked. Wait staff only took half our plates away before going off to do other jobs. Food was lovely but probably would not visit again

Don’t waste your time or money. Food very poor staff not very welcoming and made out that it was too much trouble to find us a table. £80 for lunch for three, I was hoping for a good to great experience but it was lousy at best.

Our visit was to celebrate a family occasion and as usual Joseph made us very welcome and provided a fantastic service with good food and drink (some 'on the house'). We did not want to leave but we look forward to next time. Well done Joseph and his staff.
