Been here over the time of 5 years a few times. Every time has been very good. Excellent food, drinks and service. Cheaper than hotels in area and probably best food in the area to be honest. We visit Portsmouth a lot and know many places well. This Is a favourite. Highly recommend

Excellent food excellent service. My girlfriend and I had a lovely conversation with the waitress about places to visit in Portsmouth and her dreams to visit new York city one day. The sausage and black pudding were particularly delicious.

Staying nearby we went here for breakfast. There is seating inside and out. We enjoyed our breakfasts and will return when in the area. They are mostly open in the daytime but do some evenings so worth asking. This part of the road has been pedestrianised and there are some nice nearby shops.

The venue is gorgeous and definitely has the right vibe for a lazy Sunday brunch. I had instant food envy as my friend ordered the Eggs Benedict which was ramped up with extras!! The coffee was good. I ordered the Avo Smash and was disappointed. The sourdough bread was tiny, the avocado was chopped not smashed which gives a very different texture and most importantly flavour. No seasoning or lemon juice. I also ordered the camembert wedges and they had run out of it😕 I would go back and try something else, and I will.

We found delaneys by accident on the way back to the wightlink ferry. Great food served with a smile. Would highly recommend.

I wish I could keep adding Stars to this review! That is how wonderful Delaney's is. My cousin and I are traveling through England from the U.S. and our first morning in Portsmouth we found this gem! I had the Thai Fish Cakes which were thick and tasty. The desserts were excellent too. Our waitress was bubbly, friendly and helpful with places to visit while in Portsmouth. Everyone should try it out!!

We booked a table for drinks for my friends Hen do and had a brilliant time! The cocktails were delicious, well priced and the atmosphere was great. We had some Nacho sharers which were just what we were looking for. All in all a wonderful evening and we will certainly be coming back, thank you!

We often visit Delaney’s but today the service was really poor, we waited 30 minutes for our food, we asked for some tomato sauce 3 times, the lady asked us if we wanted anything & we said, some tomato sauce please, she then went upstairs, then made a phone call, then started to make a drink, so I asked again, we were ignore again & finally the 3rd time so got some sauce. I’m disappointed that knowing the service was poor as they kept apologising to people, they would still add a service charge, I found that an insult so we won’t come again

My husband and I decided last minute to go for Sunday lunch and I had seen on my walks the Delaney's were doing Sunday Lunches. Whilst it's not a massive menu on Sunday there is something for everyone. Food was delicious, service good and friendly with a relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely be back.

Enjoyed another visit to this amazing place today. Ordered the Avo Smash (my usual ‘go-to’ dish wherever I go) and it was the best I’ve ever had! Impeccably presented, fresh and tasty ingredients, and exactly the right proportions. I cannot recommend Delaneys highly enough, you HAVE to visit, and make this your ‘go-to’ place! Food great. Fair prices. Service was good by one lady, awful by another. Visited x mas market down Castle Road and got lunch in delaneys, went back to buy mulled wine from inside and the black haired youngish lady serving was huffing and puffing (wasn’t too busy) and then said to my mum “just give me a minute” and “I haven’t had a cigarette since 9Am” it was 1.30PM. I’m sorry my mums service is not as enjoyable and your addictive habit. Everyone else seemed nice

I had a delicious breakfast with friends at Delaney's today. My french toast was lovely, the pancakes, eggs benedict and veggie breakfast all came highly recommended too 😊

A cosy and chic / chique café - with a fun and vibrant atmosphere.

I went for breakfast with my cousin on a Saturday. The staff was okay, I guess they were quite busy which explain the waiting times to get our orders. But it did take about an hour just to get two sets of veggie breakfast, which weren't very filling. Again, it could be that they were just busy but it still wasn't an experience we enjoyed.

Absolutely stunning. Had the Mushroom and Spinach Wellington roast, followed by a coffee and walnut cake and I couldn’t fault it at all!! Service was very friendly and I left very satisfied! Huge thanks, highly recommend!

Lovely little dining place, service is always friendly, helpful and attentive. Variety of breakfasts and lunches are very good, as are the drinks. But my favourite is the Egg and Bacon sandwich which is always top quality with a pot or two of tea. Highly recommended!

Wonderful friendly service with really good food at decent prices. The egg and bacon sandwiches have to be the best in the city, with their other breakfast choices look and taste superb! Sad to see Delaneys in Jalon has gone but this one was always the best! Highly recommended

Breakfast Review: Delaneys, Castle Road, Southsea. Arrived at 0930 just as it was opening and by 0945 it was filling up. Promptly given the menu and knew what I was going to order as I had checked it out online before leaving home. I opted for the Full Delaney with a Cup of Tea. 2 Bacon, 1 Snorker, half Grilled Tomato, 2 Fried Eggs, 1 Hash Brown, Pot of beans, Mushrooms and a round of white toast. Extra points for putting beans in a pot as I can’t get on with beans near egg All food was high quality especially the Snorker as I am fussy on mystery sticks as my dad called them Total Cost £12-50 , pricey yes but all very tasty The table next to me had Eggs Royale which looked amazing, I will definitely try that next time. Visited this weekend to try their roast and was not disappointed. Really lovely! Tasted fresh and everything had flavour! To make it 5* a homemade Yorkie would have been nice, but I didn't mind really as it was a generous size and the dinner overall very enjoyable. Will pop by to try some other dishes 🙂

Delaney’s is local to us and always a pleasure. We booked in for our Family/ small business Christmas party. They were really accommodating with our awkward wednesday tea time table request! The food was absolutely delicious, cocktails superb & staff super friendly and attentive. Thank you Belinda for accommodating us and Nikita & kitchen team for all your hard work and friendliness. Used Delaney’s last night for a surprise 50th birthday and what a fabulous night it was. From being able to decorate the venue ourselves , coupled with a warm and friendly welcome, it was a great choice. Belinda and her team played along brilliantly , ensured we had plenty of space to celebrate and the drinks didn’t stop flowing. Thank you Belinda for a great night. Will be back again very soon . Huge shout out to Polly and Nikita who were kept very busy .

Best vibes I've had in a while. Staff and food were great doesn't feel awkward talking to the waiter at all. Would recommend highly go with a couple mates and pretend you're 40 yr old housewives and have a good gossip!

I've walked past this place many times and was lucky enough to go in this morning. I could not reccomend it enough, beautiful and cosy well decorated place. The staff were so helpful and couldn't do more to assist us, coffee was great tasting and Florence eggs were the best I've tasted! Brilliant kitchen staff, will 100% be back for breakfast

If I could give 6 stars I would!! Amazing customer service! Sonny went above and beyond. I was breast feeding my 5 month old and he offered me a blanket to be more comfortable. It was my mums birthday and they have her a glass of 🍾 and a plate with happy birthday written in chocolate with brownie pieces and some candles. Such a lovely touch! We took my 4 year old and slightly altered the menu y to what we asked for his taste. The food was delicious. Cannot recommend enough! Will be going back for a few cocktails when little one is weaned!!

We went for lunch here on my birthday last week. The first time we have been here and Sonny went over and above to be friendly. He gave me a glass of Prosecco, sang happy birthday and gave me a plate with brownies on and candles in. Absolutely overwhelmingly brilliant service. The food was amazing too. Cannot fault this little cafe and would most definitely recommend to my friends. We will be going back.

Excellent customer service! Sonny was a great host and very friendly. He went out of the way to help with our allergies and intolerances and suggested cool places to visit. We will definitely be going back next time we are in the area.

This cafe has lovely decor. However it feels cramped unless you get one of the bigger tables towards the back. The floor bounces every time someone walks past you. Maybe some type of solid flooring would help with this. There was an electric heater under the table when we arrived. It was a cold day but basic health and safety applies here - someone drops their drink onto the heater?! The young member of staff commented that it was "just a heater". Clearly more training in health and safety and politeness is needed here. The male waiter was very polite Small mug of tea instead of a regular size or a pot. No toilet roll in the toilet so this needs checking more often. Reasonably priced food and a varied menu.

So disappointed, just been here this morning for an early lunch and thought we'd try somewhere new as we often support The Parade and Southsea Coffee (both excellent places btw, go there instead). I ordered an oat milk latte that was immediately sour and disgusting - 100% gone off but when my dad went to complain they said the oat milk was bought this morning... Hmm sure 😅 then my mum's coffee was a cappuccino with burnt espresso - not great considering the other reviews I saw on here before going. Then the food arrives - great presentation but stone cold, my sourdough bread was also rock hard. I hate to put negative reviews under independent businesses but at the same time I have to be honest and hope they take this feedback and improve their standards to survive in a great part of Southsea.

Glacially slow service and a malfunctioning door closer take away from excellent food. Staff are surly

Lovely stuff and delicious food!

I’ve obviously been unlucky with this place - on 2 separate occasions I’ve had to wait over 40 minutes for my food. Not great if you’re hungry and a little short of time but even worse when you see the place isn’t at all busy, there are 4 staff (2 on their phones, one nipping outside for a cigarette and just one in the kitchen) and even when you ask about the delay, are given a ‘so sorry, he’s a bit slow’ response. The second time I just gave up - such poor customer service - I drank my tea and walked out without waiting or paying. I doubt anybody even noticed ….. but how sad when you’re trying to support a local business and they don’t appear to even care ? No idea who owns this place but suggest they take a long hard look at how this place is being run. If it was my business I’d certainly want to understand what’s going wrong. Very disappointed as it sounds like the food can be good - but the service is just appalling !

I am coelic with a dairy allergy and each time we have eaten here the chef could not have been more helpful, going out of the way to offer gluten and dairy free food, beautifully cooked. The staff are so welcoming , very friendly and professional. A lovely place to visit.

Avoid using delivery, cold, no toast and sausage tasted off

Today my wife and I enjoyed an excellent breakfast in Delaney's. The young girl and man who served us were absolutely delightful. Sadly two totally obnoxious men came in to order. They were foul mouthed and loud. Nobody should be subjected to such a tirade. Neither the staff or the other customers. Where do these people come from?

I would first like to give a huge thank you to Delany’s and the owner for the enormous effort and delivery of a last-minute request from myself to provide an array of food for over 30 people (within a very, very short period). Sadly, a large food (chain) company had agreed to provide platters of food for more than 30 people but, 2 days prior to the event I contacted this company to ask for an update and was informed they could no longer meet the order. This was indeed very disappointing and incredibly poor on their behalf. Not to dwell, I asked some of my colleagues about other local restaurants who could potentially supply and deliver my order and was inundated with one name “Delany’s”. After reaching out to the owner, I was very pleased to hear that they could not only supply but deliver on time. Even though I am incredibly disappointed with the first company, my joy, delight, and gratitude outweigh that due to Delany’s help, and therefore I have written this review. I thank you and your team once again for your help, and shall use your services whenever a similar event is planned. Thank you, Danny

Lovely polite atmosphere and good quality food. Were willing to prepare specially for my sons limited tastes - which he (3) loved. Great value too.

Small place, good food, nice cocktails, only £5 before 18:30, otherwise £7.50, nice street. Some tables outside which allow smoking which you may dislike.

Had a coffee with a friend on Sunday 8th August at Delaney's, excellent service and very helpful staff. I recommend them.

I went during lunch time, lovely location down castle road, which is a street with a lot of character, good for people watching. The food is decent and simple, not too expensive, I tried a toastie and a side of olives with herbs and paprika oil, it was good, nice salad with the toastie. Would come back again to try other dishes on the menu.

Four of us had breakfast this morning. Everything was well cooked and beautifully presented. Lovely fresh quality ingredients. Fantastic coffee! The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended 👍😊
