The gipsy has a killer selection of guest beers &&&& they have had a boozy slushy machine with cocktails when the sun comes out. Grab one and sit in the very chilled out beer garden. It's definitely one of north London's hidden gem pubs.

Where do I start? First, I’ll start with the end….with everybody saying it was the best, and funnest wedding they’d ever been to. And that, was largely in part to the wonderful staff of The Gipsy Queen. A little background….7 weeks before my daughters wedding, the pub they were going to have the reception at, sadly closed, largely from the effects of Covid. In searching for a new venue, they came across the Gipsy Queen, probably the best thing that could have happened, and luckily, they were available on their date. I want to start by saying how absolutely amazing the staff was to work with, from Reuben, the very accommodating events manager, to Connor, the get everything done guy, to Seb and Pip, the amazing chefs, and all the rest of the fantastic staff. (and Hannah, hope you got your shot!!) They listened to everything the happy couple said, and came together to create the absolute best night of my daughter and her now husbands, life. They even learned to make some Canadian delicacies, which they did a phenomenal job with (best butter tarts ever-hope you keep them on the menu). The venue itself was perfect, with the added bonus of the outdoor space. It was bright and airy during “golden hour”, creating some fantastic photos. AV equipment was available, which was great, as we had a slide show to accompany our speech. The upstairs room is a perfect spot to host any kind of event, with a bar and access to the outdoors. The meal they prepared was beyond belief, everything was 5 star. One of the best meals I’ve had at a wedding. They sourced special appetizers, and late night snacks, as a nod to both families heritage. I cannot recommend this venue and these people enough. Thank you for making my daughters and her husbands special day perfect.

We were hopeful for a beautiful roast. Sadly the potatoes were old and mealy. Chicken was good. Beef was leather. Brilliant Pinot noir though and kids loved the puddings. We ate in the cold and soulless upstairs dining room. Cavernous and bleak. The food was served on cold plates so congealed before we finished. I’m pretty sure that if it was busier it would be better. Vicious cycle. Oh. Also, we cleared out own table. I think three stars is generous.

We had not been to this pub in a while and returned to new staff members who were absolutely delightful. I’m sorry I didn’t get any names but in particular a lovely gentleman and lady (with pink hair) made our visit. We came for an event they had put on and it was loads of fun. Solid beer range and lovely set up - inside and out. Food looked promising too, and the two young guys behind the bar were pleasant. Would have stuck around for another, but... the man who I assume was the manager (wandering in and out of staff areas) was, frankly, behaving in a pretty obnoxious manner. Overly loud and quite dismissive of his staff as if he thought he were on The Office to impress someone. And when a delivery driver came in to drop something off for a resident upstairs, he was downright rude - snapping, swearing, and it clearly made the poor driver uncomfortable. Made me feel uncomfortable too, not to mention embarrassed on his behalf for his childish, show-off "hard man" behaviour. A real shame for a pub that I genuinely liked on first impression.

First time to visit this pub for me and I liked this pub a lot and was suitably impressed. The main bar room with its studded yellow banquettes around the perimeter and classic and conventional tables, chairs and stools throughout. Then hidden out back is quite a spacious, and a bit colourful outside patio drinking area with separate areas including a couple canopied booth seating areas. Yes there is clearly a focus on food and as becoming of modern London pub interior makeovers the kitchen is exposed behind glass at one end of the pub. Sunday roasts were prominently advertised but then the rest of the food menu seemed to be Mexican with some sort of tie up with an award winning street food vendor. But it is an independently run establishment and the key selling point for me was more the 4 cask ale pumps and the 18 keg beer lines and the chalk beer board at the other end of the pub which detailed what was on them. For my visit three ales were available in the shape of the New River Brewery Isle or Rye, Gorgeous Brewery Goofyhoop and Tiny Rebel Stay Puft, a very good Porter. And the Keg lines included three craft brews from Tiny Rebel and further offerings from Siren, ABC, Camden Town and Belleville. Apart from my pint of stout being at slightly exorbitant Hampstead level prices , I didn’t find a lot not to like here.

Has a relaxed vibe and really interesting beer selection which were all really well kept. The Salted Caramel Icecream IPA was an absolute winner for me. The food options are Mexican which is a great addition. The Chicken Burrito Rice Bowl I can highly recommend in particular as very fresh and full of flavour. Unfortunately it was a little chilly to enjoy their beer garden but will definitely be back to give it a go

This is a gem of a pub tucked away in the upper reaches of Kentish Town but well worth getting the 46 bus or walking up from Prince of Wales Road to get there. It is a sister pub to the well-liked Grafton but I prefer it.

This is a lovely pub with friendly staff. Have been here a few times for sunday roast and it was nice, although had to ask for a portion of extra veg. Went the other night however, and ordered fish and chips and seafood linguine. When the food came the linguine was a starter size portion (for £19) and the fish was two tiny pieces and chips and peas so salty. Told the bar staff and they said they like feedback as it helps them to improve. They do a great selection of craft beers and it is a really good atmosphere in there so hopefully food portion size increases to reflect the prices.

After spending a bank holiday Sunday afternoon in the Gipsy Queen's 'secret garden', following a walk up Parliament Hill, we've added it to our favourites list.If you're in the area, looking for a pub that isn't packed full of dog walkers and noisy families having lunch, this is the one. The patio only traps the sun at either end, but if you're okay with not being fully exposed to the rays, you can peacefully lounge in the booths with plenty of space - and the pub provides blankets if you start to get your chill on.The staff were fantastic - friendly, fast and attentive. We had an interesting talk with one of the waiting staff who had some good recommendations for local craft breweries.Though it's off the beaten track, the food is still of high quality and portions will fill you up without wiping you out.It can be difficult to find pubs in London that are quiet without lacking quality and atmosphere, but Gipsy Queen proves there are great options still out there.

We had booked for a family birthday and expectations were high, we were not disappointed. We always like to choose a wide selection of starters and main courses and share them out. With a table of 9 and only one chef, it must have been a challenge for the kitchen. All the dishes came out together and were delicious. The ham, egg & chip were on a different level, the chicken dish was moist and succulent and my duck heart ravioli (which accompanied my duck a l'orange) was fantastic, the first time I'd had anything like it. The pig cheeks, which I had as a starter were braised to perfection and inspired me to try and recreate the dish at home. After such a feast, which was punctuated with little extras such as a slate of baby garden vegetables, freekah and vegetable jus, we didn't think we had room for pudding. However, someone ordered the 'fill your own doughnuts' which we shared. This was great fun and comprised a dish of mini doughnuts with two syringes, one filled with vanilla custard and the other with jam. This meant you could inject your doughnuts with your preferred amount of each. A great way to end a fantastic evening. The wine and beer menus are also excellent, but it will be the food that we'll be back for!

We rarely post reviews and, in most cases it is to warn others of indifferent restaurants or gastro-pubs with inflated reputations and prices. So it is with real pleasure that we can review the Gipsy Queen’s seven course tasting menu, which at £36:00 is an absolute bargain. Each dish was delicious, well prepared and pleasingly presented. There were numerous nice additional touches; for example, the brill came with home-made linguine and a tasty sweet onion compote nestling in the empty cockle shells. We could not fault any dish and, compared to many more expensive tasting menus we have had across London, and would put this one among the best. We have lived in the area for most of our lives, so have visited the Gipsy during its many manifestations, and would like to congratulate the whole team for their commitment, innovation and the transformation they have wrought turning this once ordinary boozer into a welcoming local that serves by far the best food in area.We urge you to treat yourself by trying the tasting menu and doubt that you go away hungry or disappointed. Well done the kitchen brigade!

You know you’re in safe hands when eating in an establishment that has the confidence to have its kitchen in full view of its diners. That was my first impression when my children organised a family Sunday lunch here a few weeks ago for Mother’s Day. We all had such a lovely afternoon, with delicious food, great service (including a complimentary bunch of daffodils for each of us Mums which I thought was a lovely touch) that I’d meant to do a review then, but never got round to it. So when I found myself in London again yesterday for a day/evening out with my daughter, I suggested we come to the Gipsy Queen again for lunch and I took particular note of everything we had to report my findings here on Trip Advisor. They have a great quick bar menu (award winning Scotch Egg, Toasties, Cheese Board, Classic Burger with all the usual add-ons, Fish & Chips, etc.), but as we were going to the theatre early in the evening we decided to have a full lunch from the a la carte menu. It was hard to choose - there were so many interesting sounding dishes. We both had a glass of Aperol Spritz while we decided. I chose Crab Risotto for starter. I soon realised this is fine dining at its absolute best – white and brown crab meat with artichoke crisps in crab flavoured risotto rice, topped with white crab meet, tiny lemon sections and parsley – richly delicious. This dish is also available in a larger portion for a main course. Then for main I had Duck & Fennel with red cabbage tortellini, shallot and a portion of mash side dish. Oh my!! The duck was cooked to perfection, rosy pink with gorgeous crispy skin; the fennel shavings were the perfect accompaniment; the beautiful little hand-made tortellini and pomme maxim; shallot and creamy mashed potato rounded off the dish and the presentation on the plate was stunning. I hope the photos I took come out ok on here. I asked our server what he recommended to go with the dish and the Malbec he chose was ideal. My daughter had Leek and Ham Soup with Goat’s Cheese Beignet for starter – the soup was poured out of a jug at the table, a cute touch – and then she choose another two dishes from the starter menu as her main, i.e. a Slate of Veg and a Pear & Blue Cheese Salad. Both dishes came on slabs of slate (one hot, one cold, obvs.) and again, the presentation was absolutely stunning (see pics). The baby veg came with freekah (like bulgar wheat but apparently more nutritious) and vegetable jus. I had a taste of the salad dish and from the variety of flavours, (blue cream cheese drizzled with a red wine jus, candied hazelnuts and pear) on this, on all of our dishes in fact, it’s clear that the chef in this pub is really of the highest calibre. The standard of both the food and the presentation are exceptionally high (he worked in a Gordon Ramsey kitchen previously we were told). My daughter had a glass of Gavi di Gavi to accompany her main dishes.Someone at a neighbouring table was having the Cheese Board from the bar menu and it looked so lovely I had hoped I would have had room to finish off our leisurely lunch with that rather than a dessert. Unfortunately, I was too full for either, so that will have to wait for my next visit, which, after yesterday, will be very soon indeed!! I understand this pub was taken over last year by the people who run the Grafton, another pub in Kentish Town, which won The Great British Pub of the Year in 2014. They certainly know what they’re doing because the décor, the warm friendly service, the food and wine choices available here at the Gipsy Queen are excellent. I would say it is definitely a food led establishment and I really can’t recommend it highly enough, from the bar menu to full a la carte, for lunch or an evening meal, for couples, or families or a crowd, everything and everyone is catered for. It has a lovely welcoming atmosphere and it also has a garden, so that will be a great bonus in the summer. If you haven’t been before, do give it a try. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.

Having lived in London all my life, I have quickly come to learn that it is rare to find a pub not only with a great selection of drinks, atmosphere and service, but 5 star food to match. After dinner plans fell through yesterday, we had a quick search online and having seen the photographer Rankin's recommendation of Gipsy Queen being the best restaurant in North London, we decided to head over and check it out.We were not disappointed. The food and service we received was five star, with michelin star presentation to match, all for a really reasonable price. We would have no qualms about recommending this pub to friends and family and we most certainly will be returning on a regular basis. If you are looking for a nice cosy pub in London, with a great drinks menu and delicious, affordable food, this is the place to go!

I decided to take my mum for some food at The Gipsy Queen for Mother's Day and it was, hands-down, one of the best pub dining experiences I've ever had. The staff were all extremely welcoming and efficient (we were served at the bar straight away) without ever being intrusive, and the range and variety of beers, wine, cocktails etc was spot on. But it's really the food that marks this pub out as something a bit special. We shared a starter of braised pig cheeks that were out of this world, and then each had a roast- one lamb and one beef- that came with all the trimmings. I've lived in North London my entire life, I've eaten a lot of pub roasts. It knocked them all into a cocked hat. We finished with an apple crumble that was just as good. Just go. Seriously. I can't recommend it highly enough. They even gave my mum some daffodils to take home.

The pub has got a really good feel to it, with contemporary decor but still feeling like a traditional pub. What we were really impressed with though was the food. I really wasn't expecting to find food of this calibre in a pub. I had a braised beed dish with a side of chips (cooked in duck fat), and my girlfriend had a crab risotto. Everything was simply delicious! I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for somewhere to go for a nice dinner, or just somewhere to hang out. Had dinner here last week, was recommended by a friend. We tried the Chefs tasting menu, well priced at £34 per person and were not disappointed. The dishes were so tasty and beautifully presented. My favourite was definitely the pigs cheeks but the pickled mackerel was unreal too. My friend ordered the rabbit from the a la carte menu and it really was incredible.

Had a family lunch here yesterday, and have to say we were thrilled with both the food and the service. The staff were very welcoming and promptly showed us to our table, tucked away in a corner, opposite the bar, where a few of us could see the pass (great to watch the finishing touches being added to our plates). We started our lunch off with a velvety smooth leek soup, served alongside some warm carrot, hazelnut and cumin bread, both excellent. As we were a party of six, we decided to go for sharing platters. The lamb, beef and chicken were all cooked to perfection and presented alongside, yorkshire puddings, crispy roast potatoes, a selection of seasonal cabbage, roasted carrots, carrot puree and green beans. Plenty of jus was served alongside. For dessert, five of us went for the Banana sticky toffee pudding, served with ice cream and honeycomb which was just scrumptious. One of the group opted for the Apple crumble and said that it was one of the best they'd ever had.Service was great throughout, not intrusive, but attentive and pleasant, even took a photograph for us.All in all, great value for a Sunday lunch with all the bells and whistles. Lets face it, if you want the everyday 'catering for the masses sunday lunch', you go to a chain. Highly recommended, we will return.

Had some dinner here a few nights ago and we were completely blown away by the food and also the service of the staff. The staff were really friendly and nothing was too much of a task for them. The food was very much on point and the quality better than I expected. I would recommend this place to family and friends.

A wonderful atmosphere, full of characters, including the local dogs. The food's always fantastically tasty, and presented accordingly. Some of the best service in London, with a wonderful group of staff who always strike up a good conversation. Glad to have a local that makes us feel at home.

We all went our for sunday lunch as a family. We were put to a corner table in the pub area. This would have been fine but there was a large group of people really shouting and speaking inappropriately and dont get me wrong its a pub thats bound to happen but I think we could have been seated elsewhere to eat as the pub was dead apart from them anyway. there isn't a lot of choice on the menu, about 5 options only. I ordered the cheese burger and chips which was lovely but they wouldnt put out salt, vinegar or tomato sauce and gave us salt and tomato sauce in a tiny tub. Two of the others had a roast (they had ran out of chicken and beef at 5pm on a sunday) so they went with the turkey alternative and when it came the portion was absolutely tiny and think it cost about £12. The staff were very slow to take our orders and when we ordered drinks it took them about 20 minutes when the wern't serving anyone else. It cost me 5.10 for a pink of cider with the tiniest bit of blackcurrent (they charged 80p for this) i actually had to ask if they had put any blackcurrent in it.

This place is my real local - but I never went in it's previous guises (Westport Inn etc) - and yes it's sad to see a real old locals boozer close down - it was only going to be converted into flats, so well done for someone making the time, effort spending big chunks of money into converting it into a lovely pub with a great vibe.Yup - the area might be a bit intimidating, but you're only 2 minutes from The Stag or 10 mins from the Southampton Arms - two of the trendiest pubs in north London, but I far prefer this place. Good beers, food is fantastic, decent pub quiz, really good music on in the background, and lovely vibe inside - definitely not too pretentious / 'hampstead'. Needs a few tweaks - couple more ales, more affordable food options (Goat Leg 3 ways has a limited crowd), and fundamentally a few more punters. But anyone i've taken there has loved it - even if they were dubious before stepping in due to the old pubs reputation. This even had loads of kids eating for sunday roasts - so child friendly as well.Go down, drink beer, chat, eat, be merry, this has great potential to be a really top place.

My family and I held a christening party here and it couldn't have gone better. From the word go arranging the party with the venue was hassle free and on the day everything went so smoothly. The staff were extra attentive to all our needs and the buffet was stunning especially the world class scotch eggs. The venue itself is a haven from Hampstead and Belsize Park and on a wet cold day was warm, welcoming and very cosy. Thanks again to the staff for everything.

I won't deny that when I first visited the venue I felt a little intimidated! Such a lovely venue and as I later found out, really good quality food (classic burger & chips followed by lovely house special doughnuts) but for a restaurant it's a bit of a daunting atmosphere to walk in to with a real local feel crowd conforming around the front restaurant.Definitely has the potential to be a leading local pub in the area if they can understand who they want their demographic to actually be - quiet restaurant/busy bar.Enjoyable visit nonetheless

This pub in the Belsize neighborhood had the best pub food we tasted in 20 days in the UK! We rated their fish and chips #1 and were told by the waitress that they are in the running for the best scotch egg in the UK. Recently remodeled, we loved the place.

Went here for lunch and had beer from the Camden brewery. My wife had asparagus risotto and I had fish and chips. Reasonably priced and very friendly staff. I hope this place is supported as on the site of the Westport Inn which was a dive. If it builds up regulars it will be fine. Give it a visit as worth supporting as the food was good and disagree with the other review, the choice of booze was fine.

Gipsy Queen is a new pub opened after extensive refurb on the old site of Wesport Inn. Nice airy deco, bare floorboards and brick walls minimalist look. Massive garden at the back. Camden Town brewery beers on tap. Overall poor choice of ales though. Fancy and expensive food. Call me old fashioned but I don't want to see roasted scallops, guinea fowl and rib-eye steak £23.50 on the pub menu. Lawless lager at £5. Time will tell how well they go - I give them 3 months.

It was an absolutely amazing experience, and I have honestly would have given 7 out of 5 if it wasn’t for the end. We were looked after a lovely gentleman called Adrian and he was really nice and professional, he followed us through the whole meal and made sure our experience was great. He did succeed and we also had a couple of more waitress touching our table and there were all absolutely lovely. Since the start we were really exited and the thing of guessing the ingredients in the dish was so much fun… Was also my girlfriend birthday and the champagne on house on the arrival was a really lovely touch. Everything went great, it was a special occasion for other personal reason but I’m not going too deep into it, just was wishing that the evening wound have ended a bit better. We finished the 5 courses of an Amalfi experience meal, and I cannot thank Adrian (the waiter) enough to make this evening so lovely. I come from the south of Italy and I was hoping to end the meal with an espresso. I have been also working on restaurants for the last 20 years across 3 different countries, I indeed work as a manager in an Italian restaurant and I know for sure that until the last drink order of called the coffee machine should not been closed, specially in an Italian restaurant (or experience). But I also know how hard and heavy is working long hours in hospitality is, but what bothers me is not the thing that I could have a coffee after my meal, but the way how the female bartender reacted to my request. I asked Adrian for an espresso and when he asked the bartender if he could have a coffee she responded to him quite loud “of course is closed”. Adrian came to the table and really politely told us that we could not have a coffee so we had a couple of limoncello shot instead. Again what bothers me is only the way how this bartered had reacted to my request, otherwise this would have been a 10 out of 10 dinner. I still recommend to go there as food was lovely and service was great (waitress stuff, bit much from the bar) but if you are a coffee lover after dinner make sure you go there earlier than 9pm. Adrian, thank you for your service, you’re great!!!!

Went with friends to check this place in our neighborhood and were fairly pleased. Some of the dishes are top class while others are of good quality. Wine list is solid. Service is good and would've been rated 5 if we did not get reminded at least 10 times how busy our waiter was and hope difficult it was for him to keep up with all the orders - which he did magnificently)

Great Double Double and Liqour very nice and tasty would return for another meal. There seems to be some confusion on social media about this place also being a Cafe. I can Confirm this is a Pie and Mash Shop only no other food is served here so presume people must be confusing this place with somewhere else.

Magnifica selección. Un pequeño pub que se llena mucho. Hay un pequeño jardín en la parte de atrás, pero la atracción principal es la artesanía ale y sidra
