Giovannis deli, Oxford Street in Manchester

We were staying in Manchester to visit a great-niece and her boyfriend and had a spare evening. We had decided against eating in our posh hotel, because the “B-team” was running the bar and they had put us off, badly. What a different world when we entered Don Giovanni’s on Oxford Street (Manchester 1). An immediate and friendly welcome, with the cheery and involved banter continuing throughout our evening. No, this was not intrusive, Zehra was intuitive enough to know how to treat each table. This was back in April and so I can not now recall either the wins of the courses, but we’ll be back. What a joy. - thank you Zehra and co.

We had pre- theatre menu which had a good choice and reasonable for 2 or 3 courses. Food was good and served quickly for theatre visits. Peter our waiter was very helpful

Peter was great! He was very fun and made the experience delightful, his bubble personality made our whole table laugh!

Very disappointed. Half the wine list wasn't available as they were getting ready for a refit (fair enough) but when we did get our wine we went for a white and they bought it to the table and it was warm, no ice bucket had no ice in it i had to ask for it :(. The meal when it came (long wait) was mediocre and not as good as i expected after reading other reviews. As it was our wedding anniversary we left disappointed and will not be going back.

Amazing food facilitated by Peter who was absolutely amazing. Will definitely be back soon to try more! The rissoto was great and the aranchini was the best Ive ever had.

We hadn't booked but arrived around 4.15 and we're shown straight to a table. Staff attentive food was ok, nothing I could rave about but nice . OMAR was helpful and.polite, quick.to remove out dishes and checking on.our glasses. The only.negatice was a female waitress or manager who snapped at her colleague who offered her help coming.out.of the kitchen. Unknown to her my partner was behind her as she shouted and swore at the colleague to move...very unprofessional in au h an open space

This spot is the right one if you want to have a great meal whit your family in a trip, or even have a business meeting. The place is very adaptable to different situations.

Food was average but if you like proper Italian you would like. The service however, was not so good. We told the waiter to pack our food and he binned it! He also rolled his eyes at us. However a lovely woman came to our rescue and got the chef to cook us some more.

I’ve been before so expected a decent standard of food & service and received neither. We arrived early and were seated, which was great, ordered drinks and these came quickly, ordered starters and then these arrived within 10mins, service better than I thought. Then it went downhill, both starters were overcooked, the calamari thinly sliced (great idea) like rubber, the arancini balls, deep fried like a Scotsman was doing it. Then we waited…..and waited……and finished our drinks……and waited……..until we asked for another round of drinks, which came quickly, even thought some of the waiting staff didn’t know where table 27 was……then we waited. Eventually we got our mains, Spaghetti Al Basilico, which was great and Penne Arrabiatta with chicken, which tasted like an unseasoned can of tomatoes with zero spice, I left half of it and when it was collected there were no questions asked. When the bill came I told them to take off the service charge and once again, no questions asked. Not a chance I will ever eat here again.

We arrived and ordered before our show. Advised not to order starter as we would not have enough time l. Ok we ordered fillet steak for main with lots of extras. One hour later no food, we left. We are eating crisps and biscuits at home after our show. Shame on you Don Giovannis

First treat of our holiday, and it did not disappoint. We had calamari and polpette to start and then spaghetti carbonara and risotto al fungi with cheeky chicken and a lovely Chablis. The food was delicious and well presented. Our waiter, Silviu was professional and appropriately familiar making us feel welcome and special. The other staff were also very welcoming and friendly. We will certainly return when a treat is in order!

First time we’ve visited this restaurant and we were all delighted with the whole experience. The lobster ravioli was delightful and the sauce served with it was delicious. A very good selection of food served so would suit most people.

On March 29 (easter friday) my family and I had dinner. When we arrived we asked if there was availability and the maitre (a tall blonde young woman) d' told us to wait a few minutes. While we were waiting (despite there being numerous empty tables that were not occupied later) the maitre and two of her coworkers had a very disrespectful attitude towards us, laughing out loud while they looked at us, making comments to each other and showing an attitude of contempt. As for the food, it must be said that it is correct but high priced. It is understood that on a day when the restaurants were full, there were so many empty tables in this one.

The service and food was absolutely amazing. Our server Silvio was lovely and always made sure we were having a good time. I definitely recommend going there!

We booked a table for a large party for some food pre-theatre trip. We asked what time we would be advised to come with a large group and were told that 5.45pm would give us plenty of time for a 7.30pm show start. We paid £20 deposit each to be taken off the bill upon payment and sent in a pre-order. We were eventually booked in for 5.40pm. We were all early and sat down at the allotted time. Most of our drinks came fairly soon after, 3 were missed off and some of the wines were confused between a Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio. We taste tested ourselves to make sure the correct people had their orders. We had checked prior about allergies. When double checking a member of the group asked if there are any peanuts in the restaurant as they are allergic, to be on the safe side, the waitress flippantly said that there are no nuts in a carbonara, which was very dismissive on something so important. Starters came out and were relatively well organised. However the biggest issue came with the mains, or the lack thereof. At 6.55pm, despite multiple members of the group raising issues of timings to the restaurant staff and the manager, we gave a 5 minute ultimatum as we needed to get to the theatre. Food finally arrived at 6.58pm. We threw our food down us, not even tasting it and rushed out. Some of the party stayed behind to sort out the bill as we didn't have time to do any working out for any additional items added on the night. The restaurant was fairly quiet as we were about to leave. We were hidden at the back of the restaurant where the kitchen was. Another large party arrived a lot later than us and could not stay and went to McDonalds as a consequence. The manager was rude and unhelpful. We stated they gave us a recommended time and we had eaten the food, so absolutely had to pay the bill or be charged via the person who completed the booking. They reduced the bill by £30, coming to a grand total of £2 discount per party member. He also said that because each individual in the group didn't raise an issue, therefore the majority were fine so waiving the bill any further would not be happening. This came to loggerheads as we were at 7.20pm at this point. We asked what time they closed. They said midnight and we said we would come back. He said that was not allowed (which I understand), but we were getting increasingly agitated and concerned that we were going to miss the start of the show. A member of the party ended up paying as the organiser fell to pieces after putting in a great deal of effort of organising the pre-order in the first place. We will absolutely be raising this further and would absolutely not recommend coming here to anyone.

Set off well, food average but served on cold plates. Had to catch someone’s attention for Parmesan and black pepper. I had the mushroom risotto and found it to be a bit tasteless. Husband had a calzone and he said it was ver6 good. We thought it was expensive and started to have enough of being told what to tip, I always thought it was supposed to be discretionary.

Four of us had a table booked for an early evening dinner. We were seated promptly at 5.30pm. Our wet coats were not taken, and we kept them slung over the backs of our chairs, school canteen style. Although we waited a short while to be approached for our order, there were no alarm bells yet. But then the catalogue of dissatisfaction started. Our waiter literally ran from the table after taking 3 of four drinks orders, following a whisper in his ear from another member of staff. After 5 minutes, he returned and just asked for our drinks order once again, like nothing had happened. Another long wait, then he returned to say they were out of the ingredients for one of the cocktails, causing delay. My margarita arrived in a glass smothered with fine table salt, genuinely the worst margarita I'd ever had. The £15 cocktail we had to cancel and replace with another choice found its way onto the bill at the end! One of our two starters was fair (meatballs). The other (aranchini) was disappointing. Then we waited an hour and a half for our 4 main courses! We only received them after reminding a passing manager we were all waiting. The small lasagne looked like a ready meal, but my friend said it tasted OK (but M&S ready meal lasagne is better). The mushroom risotto was completely bland and over cooked, the rice grains had all blown. This restaurant is in a great location. The decor and size/layout are nice. You walk in expecting great things. Then, you'll be hit by poor to average food and appaling service. The cost was expensive. We left, annoyed, disappointed, and hungry!

If your thinking of booking here just make sure your not going to cancel. even if you cancel hours beforehand you will be charged £20 per person unless it’s 24 hours ahead. There is nothing about this on the website. I tried to cancel on the email but the link was broken also rang repeatedly with no answer and no answers to my email either so what more could I do? Charged 3 months later with no explanation. Very poor customer service wouldn’t recommend don’t deserve our business

Went for lunch before an evening at the theatre. Starter was cold, still frozen in parts. Very slow service. First visit but unfortunately I wouldn't return.

Visited on my birthday for a pre theatre meal and the experience was memorable for all the wrong reasons. Service appalling from start to finish, so frustratingly slow with food arriving before drinks and empty food plates left sitting at our table for 30 mins. The slow service meant we ended up short of time with a theatre to get to - given the restaurant promotes itself as a pre-theatre dining experience it’s reasonable to expect quickish service. We’ve been before and found the service slow but decided to try again as the food has always been good but not this time. The sourdough bread was cold and soggy, the pasta mains had zero flavour (it’s years since we’ve added salt to food but were seriously tempted to add some, to try to get it to taste of something) then, to top it all, we had tiramisu devoid of any coffee flavour. So, lousy service and lousy food resulted in a most unpleasant dining experience. Do yourself a favour and find a restaurant that genuinely cares about its customers and the quality of the food it serves - Don Giovanni’s isn’t it!

I’ve been coming here for around 10 years and I don’t know what has happened? The management must have changed because we went last night for valentines and the service food and drink was shocking, The first waiter I asked him for lamb shank he looked at me with a blank look he stated to me he just started last night and didn’t know what that was, I had to ask the same waiter 3 times for the correct drink my partner ordered a large red wine their was literally a mouthful for him when asking a waiter was this a large he said have you drank from it we said no did nothing! then had to ask another waiter was it a large he said yes that’s a large, I always get my usual favourite lamb shank well what used to be lamb shank is now looking like something else which I couldn’t even cut, I am so sad to see what was my all time fave restaurant go so down hill I mean even if the service was a tad better I wouldn’t of even left a review as I don’t often leave reviews but we got a strange look when saying we didn’t want to pay the service charge as you can see why….

I have been here 3 times in one month. That’s is how good the venue, food and service is. Last time we was in Omar looked after us and made sure we had everything we needed and more. A disaster from start to finish, we dined here as a pre theatre meal, we were seated, our waiter came over to take our order and that’s where the series or unfortunate events began, our drinks took 30 mins to come after we asked for them 4 times!!!! We had already eaten our luke warm starters before we’d had our drinks!!! Then we waited and waited and waited asking waiter after waiter after waiter where our mains were?? Other diners seated after us had eaten and were on desserts or paying their bills!!! After 40 mins our mains arrived mine which was the salmon (the size of a fish finger) was slightly warm the veg was cold and the potatoes so overcooked almost inedible, I was asked by the waiter if everything was ok I said it was absolutely disgusting and the service was shocking!! The manager came over and I explained the same to him his response was sorry can I replace it to which I answered no as it was 6.45 and we needed to get to the show! We asked for the bill and I was truly disgusted to find we had been charged for everything to which I asked to see the manager I aired my grievances and told him we would never step foot in their again!!! I would urge others to avoid!!

Very long wait before food order taken and had to ask for drinks as no one had taken a drink order. Ordered garlic bread but it arrived after the starters. Waited over an hour for main courses which only arrived after we chased them up. When we asked for the bill, it wasn’t brought and we only seemed to get any attention when we got up to leave the table. When we asked for the service charge, which is automatically added to the bill, to be deducted and explained why, we got a cursory apology. A shame as the main courses were delicious.

My mistake ruined my dish the response from the staff ruined the meal. The fillet stake was served but with a large amount of rock salt on the white plate as a seasoning. In the darkened setting and in conversation I failed to spot it and added my side. The salt became mixed with the meal and spoiled the whole dish. When I inquired that I didn’t expect salt to be on the serving plate and why I couldn’t have been trusted to add my own seasoning if needed. I was dismissed out of hand and watched a waiter laughing with his boss as he explained. Even if it was my own error I expect I’m not the first and what would it have cost to remove my side and add a fresh. Restaurant seemed under staffed for the amount of people dining.
