Restaurant at The Ox in Manchester

I have been to the oxnoble a few times now and felt compelled to leave a review at my earliest convenience. The pub is a decadent, historic building nestled within the heart of Castlefield. When first entering the pub you’re struck by an awe of comfort and homeliness. The young and spunky staff are attentive, respectful and offer a smile with service at no extra charge. Whether dining, drinking or enjoying a social with friends, you’ll find the experience and environment to be positively enlightening from start to finish. The staff aren’t shy, and aspire to be as welcoming as possible. Faith regaled me with tales of her time in America with cans of beans. Sam as acting manager works incredibly hard to make sure staff and customers alike are smiling and having a good time. Ben’s and Toms funky shirts bring a smile to my face everytime I see them. Lottie knows the bar better than a lifelong local and will tell you straight. Sion is a true old school gentleman and will treat you properly. Adam will be fondly missed. And the new girls are the two sides of Ying and Yang. In short: A trip to the Oxnoble pub is one of the most enriching, rewarding and wholesome experiences of your life.

Terrible food. Had to wait 30 minutes when the place was pretty much empty. Shame. Came here for Sunday lunch about ten years ago and it was pretty good. Really gone down hill. Couple opposite we’re waiting 40 minutes and turned their food away for a refund when it turned up. We had two young kids who needed to eat so they had theirs (pretty terrible chicken nuggets and burnt chips) but my wife (Sunday roast beef) and I (beef pie with mash) left most of ours. The mash was lumpy with a rubbery consistency totally inedible. If you’re a chef and you can’t make mash potato, you shouldn’t be a chef. Sack the chef and try to return this place to its former glory.

I booked a table about a week in advance for lunch outside with friends. A member of staff called up a few days before to advise that, if we chose to sit inside, we would have to vacate our table by 3pm for the football. I appreciated the heads up and said we were still hoping for a table outdoors because of the good forecast. On the day, we turned up and were told to ‘sit anywhere’. The outside area was nothing more than a tiny square of pavement with half a dozen tables, and nothing had been done to indicate one was reserved for us. We viewed the menu on our phones, and went to order at the bar. Only then were we told that a limited menu was being served because of the football. The server asked if those menus were outside- we said no. He handed us some, we noticed that there was little choice, and so left. Why wasn’t I told about the limited menu on that phone call? Then our time wouldn’t have been wasted.

Great pub , friendly atmosphere and really nice bar staff . Food was excellent and I was well attended to . Would recommend this pub to friends 10/10

Came for breakfast on a Saturday morning. Breakfast is served until 12pm, so handy if you wake up a bit late. A lot of options available and reasonably price. Service is friendly and efficient, food tasted fresh and tasty, a nice relaxed atmosphere for breakfast too. Would come back again.

The woman/manager that works behind the bar is a dreadful person with a miserable face on her who should get another job. Other than that the food is nice and the other staff are lovely.

First time at the Oxnoble in Manchester. Lovely warm and welcoming vibe and staff were super friendly would definitely recommend for all ages (myself and friends being mid to late 20’s). Manager and staff both visited our table to ask about the service. Thankyou!!

This is our second visit to this pub as we were so impressed with the food and service on our first visit... Again it did not dissapoint, had a lovely time and again everything was spot on. The manager Ian is lovely. Great spot.

Been nearly 20 years since I stayed at the ox glad to see it’s still a great place and base for going out. Ian the manager was excellent and understood the crowd and dealt with a couple of unruly guys in professional fashion. Would recommend.

My family and I visited the Oxnoble one afternoon for drinks, and I wasn’t overwhelmingly pleased with the experience. The online ordering system took too long, the drinks took a good while to arrive, the wrong drinks arrived, and the glasses that everything was served...

Nice atmosphere. I sat inside where it was quiet, but plenty were sat outside in the sun. Had the loaded burger followed by sticky toffee sundae, both really tasty! The 2 barmen were friendly and had great customer service skills. Would definitely recommend.

The oxnoble is a great place for food and value for money. It offers a wide range of drinks and food.breakfast in the morning after the sleep was great and no noise was heard during the night.. we arrived back late after drinking for a birthday party. this was not an issue however and we were treated like a part of the family many thanks and much appreciation

Went in the pub for food and beer. The place is really nice since the refurb. Good atmosphere and good selection of beers . What let’s this place down is the quality of the food. The ox always had a good name for food in the past with up market bistro stuff. The new owners have changed to more basic pub grub which is fine if the quality of the cooking is good. Unfortunately the standard is not great, so get a decent chef !

Good value for money. Ideal location for castlefield/ deansgate locks area. Breakfast was great, rooms basic but clean. A little noisy in rooms till 12pm from pub downstairs but not a disaster. This may affect young kids though. Overall recommended

We went there for a quick coffee and dessert. Big mistake. We had to wait 30 minutes for our desserts. I would not recommend if you are in a hurry.

Perfect location for a quiet pint and a soft seat after 4 hours in the noisy and busy science museum. Good pint of Doom Bar. 40 minute wait for Sunday lunch so decided to buy a sandwich elsewhere. Sky Sports was a bonus!!

Stayed here with my GF on the 12th of Feb for a night. The staff are friendly and polite making you feel really welcome. The location by Deansgate is great if you're arriving from the starion and the short walk can be done in about 5 minutes. The room we had was of a very decent size, clean and airy with good natural light and plenty of storage space. the bathroom was pretty standard, nothing special but got the job done. The bed was massive and comfortable with clean bedding.

We were at Science Museum and need to recharge the batteries whilst also looking for a place that would be showing both rugby matches. 4 large TVs and we managed to get in front of one of them. Really friendly staff, good banter and very helpful. Having seen one match we were struck with a case of the beer munchies so ordered their Tapas style snacks. Good comfort food which did the trick until we could go for dinner. Good location great range of beers good food and an enjoyable afternoon. England and Scotland won so that was the icing on the cake

This is a great pub, there were big portions of food and it was very tasty. Staff were really friendly and helpful. A good place to spend a few hours talking with friends.

I was getting a round of drinks and the barman knocked a pint of cider all over me. He was very apologetic, but took an age to realise he needed to mop up the mess and only when I asked, did they throw a rag at me so I could dry my shoes and jacket.

Big group of friends met at Oxnoble before going on to eat elsewhere. Pub cosey and nicely done out. Loads of beer plus 4 x Gin of the week ordered as sounded good incl lemon and ‘sprinkling of raspberries’ ... no raspberries and only 3 pieces of lemon left....reluctantly given. Apparently ‘board been wrong for ages’ (Friday night at 6.30) Not ideal but barmaid so unnecessary rude and unpleasant! Let the place down.

Booked a table for lunch with my Dad on Thursday, I have only ever eaten in here once and it was years ago but everytime I have been for a drink the food always looked good. We arrived and were greeted by a lovely lady who decided to serve us at the table as it was relatively quiet this was a nice touch! We had the scampi and wings to start then sausage chips and beans off the lunch menu, the food was spot on the sausages were stunning the type you get off the Christmas markets - yum! The price is pretty standard for a city centre pub with very good quality food. The place inside is really cosy and we got a table next to the fire which was lovely! My main compliment would be the lady who served us she was polite friendly and kept checking in did we need more drinks sauces etc. I wouldn’t hesitate recommending this place to anyone! Stopped over for one night to visit the markets. Checked in and was shown our room. It was clean and warm. Expensive for what we got but everywhere is this time of year I suppose.

Suena como que el lugar tiene una mala reputación. Tuve un buen domingo asado aquí. Todo estaba bien cocinado, una porción lo suficientemente grande como para llenarte pero no para dejarte lleno y una buena dosis. Justo al lado del museo de Ciencia e Industria, fue una tarde maravillosa.

Great pub and atmosphere what let’s it down is the poor quality food. The ox has always had a great food reputation there is no reason why pub food can’t be of a high standard sort it out landlord get a good chef and this place will be exceptional not average

This pub was alright. Prices were quite high for what we were having but the staff and setting were nice enough and the pub felt cosy. Only major complaint is that the signage said there was a quiz night going on so we stuck around and then asked about it after some time to be told there wasn’t one on and the sign was wrong which was a shame

The hallmark of good roast is that it reminds you what your grandmother used to make evoking childhood memories. The Oxnoble succeeds in this, especially considering my frugal Northern roots. Chunky slabs of beef, 'burnt ends' and all, good selection of well seasoned veg, topped off with a crispy yorkie and more than enough flavoursome gravy. Good portion was only just too much and for a reasonable price.

I had the parsnip and spinach tart with sunday dinner veg....cauliflower cheese, roast taters, stuffing etc. I have not had such a good sunday dinner for a while. Partner had roast beef with a yorkshire pudding...beef was not chewy just good. Top marks and will return.

this used to be a fair gastropub. I was very disappointed when we came back there this summer. It s very standard pub food. There is not mush things to say : that was not bad but that was not good either...

I stopped for lunch at the The Oxnoble pub on Liverpool Road during previous trips to the Museum of Science and Industry across the street. On those visits, I enjoyed the clean, comfortable atmosphere and top-notch, hot traditional pub food. I was at the museum today, and was really looking forward to an excellent pub lunch. Boy, was I disappointed. The atmosphere is still cozy, clean, and inviting, but the food has gone downhill--big time. The lunch menu basically consists of cold sandwiches. When I saw the offerings on the menu card, my instincts told me to bolt. But since it was a chilly rainy day, I went against my better judgment and ordered a cheese sandwich that was supposed to come with salad and a "sprinkling of chips." Twenty minutes later, a sour-faced teenage boy brought my lunch to the table. The sandwich consisted of 2 pieces of Tesco-type sliced bread with three minuscule pieces of fried cheese. The Tesco bread wasn't toasted or grilled, and the tiny bits of fried cheese didn't cover the bread. Basically, one half of the sandwich was almost entirely missing its cheese. The salad was also AWOL, and 3/4 of the plate was filled with frozen chips that had barely been deep-fried. Honestly, it was like something you would find in a grammar school cafeteria, or a snack that you would throw together for the kids while renting a seaside cottage on summer holiday. There is a sign outside the pub that says "Brand New Menu." The Oxnoble would do well to ditch the "Brand New Menu" (and the Tesco sliced bread) and return to tried-and-true dishes like fish-and-chips, steak-and-kidney pie, etc. Otherwise, this museum-goer won't be eating there ever again.

This is a good friendly boozer to visit on any day of the week. We went and had a lovely Sunday roast and enjoyed a couple of pints of nice ale. There was premier league football on the telly and a chilled out atmosphere. Perfect for a Sunday hangover!

産業科学博物館見学の休憩所、ランチスポットとして最高です。さくっと見ることもできますが、じっくり隅々見て回る価値がある産業科学博物館、無料で、出入り自由ですから、つかれたらこちらで休憩を。地元の人のランチスポットにもなっているようですので、その時間をすこしずらすと効率的かと思います。

Popped in on Saturday for a quick lunch. First of all it took a LONG time to get served, not because it was busy but because every single drink made took at least 7 minutes to create (they were not in a rush!)

Manager Hannah wasn't willing to listen when I placed a newly bought drink on a group of tables that were of 1/2 inch height difference. My drink went over on the join and she rudely refused to refill. Very ignorant and bad attitude towards customers...wont be spending there again!!!

Went to castlefields with some friends to the science museum and it was a hot day so we called here for lunch. We got there about 1pm and was told they couldn’t cook until 1.30 so we had to wait a long time. It wasn’t very good food in fact the scampi was over cooked and my ham and cheese toastie was too well done.they had no bottled water which I drink so had a pot of tea. Wouldn’t go again.

Sábado por la tarde y 5 de profundidad en el bar esperando a ser servidos. Una camarera decide vaciar la papelera y otra está mirando alrededor, con un cojín de ficha en su mano, dejando 3 para servir a paso de tortuga. No fue una gran experiencia el 1 de calle, sin embargo, sirven encargado, así que nos fuimos y volvimos más tarde. Como ella sacó el 1 de la calle pinta el barril se acabó!

Nos reunimos con algunos amigos en el Oxnoble para comer antes de los sonidos de la ciudad, que está literalmente a 5 minutos a pie. El personal era amable, había una buena selección de cervezas y ensaladas para el almuerzo tuvimos que estaban bien, aunque la parte de proteínas, la ensalada estaba un poco escaso. El servicio era bueno y disfrutamos de un par de copas. Como pubs, era lo que queríamos y no nos decepcionó. He ido a "Muy bueno" como "Media" parece un poco duras. "Muy bueno" parece un poco demasiado, pero como la Oxnoble hyping un pub con comida que ofrece.

Pedí un halloumi y ensalada de verduras. . . . Que llegó, muchos halloumi, pero no una verdura asada en vista - sólo unos trozos de pimiento crudo. No hay tomates. Las hojas de ensalada evidentemente han sido lavados porque la mitad de un centímetro en la parte inferior de la cazoleta. Fue rematado con unos 8 enormes trozos de brioche frito, creo que supuestamente estaban croutons, pero demasiado grande y dulce y grasienta a semejanza de, o comer. Ah, y había 26 muy salada olives - que va a comer TF 26 aceitunas en una sentada? ?

Όμορφο και ζεστό περιβάλλον. Βρίσκεται σχεδόν απέναντι από το μουσείο επιστημών και αποτελεί μια πολύ καλή λύση για καφε και γλυκό ή για μπύρα και φαί, μετά την επίσκεψη στο μουσείο.

Very much our local. Used to be more of a hotel but the recent revamp has made it into a decent pub. Nice atmosphere and good selection of drinks, however the bar staff really let this place down unfortunately. If you don’t die of old age waiting in the queue you’ll be even more infuriated once you get to the front and see that most of them are doing nothing. The food is also abysmal and I wouldn’t really recommend eating there unless you had no other choice. Shame as the Sunday roasts used to be amazing. The (soundless) TV’s also add a weird vibe, can’t make my mind up whether it’s a classy pub playing a few games or just another crappy Wetherspoons attempt. Either way, it’s still the bar staff that ruin it for me at present.

Nos alojamos aquí en una noche de viernes y sábado, ya que íbamos a una boda cerca. Estábamos muy ansiosos por nuestra estancia, pero eran muy decepcionados. El hotel, que forma parte del pub estaba viejo y sucio. Las alfombras y las cortinas estaban viejas y sucias, la pintura desgastada/rayado, parecía que había sido utilizada en emulsión las puertas en vez de brillo. También fue irregular. En el piso del baño había pintura splatters y había sido reparado en lugares con cinta aislante. Dos habitaciones en nuestro grupo no tienen agua caliente en la mañana de la boda. Los colchones eran suaves y barato. El papel de nuestra habitación era no pegaban, viejo, necesitaban una mano de pintura. El marco de la puerta de nuestra habitación parecía como si en algún momento han roto. Parte de nuestro pomo de la puerta se cayó. Las paredes estaban cubiertas de Hoyos, antiguo azul tak marcas, dañado, papel de pobres, manchas de pintura y trabajos de reparación. Todo estaba cansado, viejo y sucio. Por la mañana nos quedamos para desayunar y aunque el pub no estaba lleno, tuvimos que esperar más de una hora para nuestras comidas. El gran desayuno grasosa y de mala calidad. La vegetariana desayunos - el pub no tienen suficientes patatas salteadas (después de dos clientes habían ordenado anteriormente), por lo que nos ofrecieron patatas asadas o patatas fritas y salchichas vegetarianas no tienen hamburguesas vegetarianas (cualquier) así que nos ofrecieron. En general, fue una experiencia realmente decepcionante y pésima y un desperdicio de dinero. Colocó un verdadero amortiguador en todo el fin de semana.

Birre buone, soprattutto le craft a rotazione. Valida anche la selezione di birre standard, per quanto non capisco come mai nei pub inglesi si trova sempre la peroni che qualitativamente non merita neanche un posto al discount.L'atmosfera é molto piacevole e tipica da pub. Tra l'altro é anche family friendly, con giochi da tavolo a disposizione gratuitamente.

Stopped here for lunch after a trip to the science museum which is opposite. Service was very good. Food came quickly and it was excellent. Not overly expensive, averaging around £9-10 a meal. Children’s menu was very good too. Good atmosphere and lovely and warm on a cold day!

Stopped here with my partner for a weekend break and we enjoyed our stay, it’s local to shops and train stations and the rooms was very clean. We had food in the pub downstairs and it was cheap and good, the lovely male behind the bar was very helpful in helping me chose which wine was nicest to suit my taste. Will definitely return, lovely staff and good price.

Went for Sunday lunch, ordered crispy haloumi was grilled and dry, had roast beef was of the standard you’d expect from a cafe or at a mates who doesn’t cook well, veg seemed frozen. Not terrible but so many better options in Manchester and probably not worth leaving the house for, if they phoned me on a rainy Sunday and say come for free I’d pass. Crumble for pudding was a deep bowl of boiling hot fruit again probably frozen or tinned with powdery undercooked crumble and no room to fit the custard, badly thought out. I wouldn’t race to go back there.
