I visited here one Saturday evening with 2 friends. The venue is a large former bank in central Manchester. It was very busy when we dined there but the service was excellent and attentive. I would recommend booking a table since I saw a few people try to sit down on what they thought were vacant tables but were turned away. The food was delicious and I enjoyed it immensely. I’d recommend the lamb shepherd’s pie but do think the vegetables could be more plentiful. I found the pianist and singer to be annoying and not very good. I do think given the venue they need a better live act. Overall, highly recommended.

Booked for evening meal at Browns with 2 friends. Building is an old bank, so grand in appearance with very high ceilings. The restaurant was busy but the service was very good. The food was delicious in so far as the starter went (crispy goats cheese) but tailed off for the main course (prawn and crab linguine) as the dish was smothered in pesto, which was all you could taste (failed to finish more than 25% of the dish. Due to the busy environment, there was a lot of noise due to guests speaking BUT they had a pianist and singer that brought the mood right down with slow, sombre renditions of some very well-known tracks (added nothing to the ambience)

The most beautiful old building. We sat on a lovely table with a view of the live singer and the piano player. Delicious food, I had steak and he had risotto. Served by Heidi who was the perfect amount of attentive but not smothering.

It’s tradition now- every time we visit Manchester, on the last day when we’re both feeling down about going home and going back to work, we go to Brons for breakfast. The place is beautiful, art deco in style. Lovely breakfast menu- you can have a (classy) fried breakfast, vegetarian and vegan options are available. If you fancy pushing the boat out you can have steak and eggs with a Bellini! We were looked after by Kris who was the perfect level of attentive- making sure we had everything we needed but without being OTT. Thank you Kris for looking after us. Hopefully see you again soon.

There are so many places to eat and drink in Manchester but they can't be many as impressive as this. The historic building has been carefully maintained and you can enjoy a meal in sumptuous surroundings and taking the high ceilings and pillars. This latest visit was just for drinks and the bar area is lovely as well. It is located only a two minute walk from market Street so is easy to find and to get to. The drinks aren't the cheapest but they are served by the Friendly staff who look amazing in their white shirts and aprons. There is a relaxed and friendly atmosphere and visit is highly recommended.

Came here in a family trip to Manchester. The setting is great - an old bank transformed into a sumptuous dining environment. Service was great - Kris was attentive and helpful, the perfect combination of there but not there that makes a great waiter. Food is standard Browns fare, but it’s a good menu and characteristically good food.

Festive afternoon tea with friends. Beautiful surroundings, lovely helpful staff. Festive afternoon tea was perfect. Good choice of sandwiches & delectable mini desserts & scones with a welcome pot of tea of your choice. Great value £23 There was an extensive choice of cocktails of which we sampled a few. Would not hesitate to return or recommend..the only little thing that needs addressing is the toilets or maybe the people that use them! Other than that it’s a 10/10

After having decided to go and have a few drinks with it being the festive period and with it being at least eight years since I'd visited Browns on my own. I thought it would be a nice experience to finish the year off. How wrong I was about that. To be told you'd been cut off for having too many pints (six in total) and bear in mind I'd not even caused a scene just minded my own business drinking my pints of lager. Being totally hammered is one think but to be slihgtly topsy turfy and to be told by the manager that you've had enough to drink and would you please leave after you've finished your drink. Disgusted, I'll never visit this place again!

I was in no mood to argue with someone clearly with no brains, so walked out peacefully to make other arrangements for my date. I managed it (thank you Manchester) and we had a brilliant date and a brilliant evening. BROWNS (Manchester) you can do one!!! I will never return. !

I visited yesterday with two others in my bubble, we were super excited as it was our first dining out with no kids post covid and now I wish we hadn’t chosen Browns, the place is lovely, clean, following social distance, we had booked in for afternoon tea and what a disappointment, the bread was rock hard, I mean like the sandwiches were made in the morning and then left on the side all day, the filling was next to non existent, non of the 3 of us received the same selection, when I mentioned this they brought out “a mix they had left over”, we had the champagne afternoon tea but then had to ask for a hot drink it wasn’t offered and then this came so much later, there was no offering from the staff of what we would like, we received three teas, when I asked for coffee the server did apologise for just assuming but by this point we were leaving so it was too late all the hot drinks went to waste.Such a shame as we thought it was going to be a delightful experience.

The Manchester restaurant scene is fiercely competitive with many fantastic options to choose from. With the government’s Eat Out scheme in place, Browns was one of only a handful of places with some availability left. It isn’t normally a place that would’ve been my first choice, but now I’ve been I will certainly be back! The decor and building itself is very striking as you walk in with high ceilings, great lighting and smartly dressed staff. We were quickly warmly greeted and showed to our table. Our waitress, Alice, was an absolute star. She carried herself with a high level of professionalism at the same time as serving with a smile and genuine warmth. Throughout our meal she was aware and attentive and delivered some of the best service we’ve experienced in a long time. The food, granted maybe a little pricier than some other places in Manchester, was worth every penny. The croquettes and Steak and Guinness pie were incredible..... then the sticky toffee pudding.... wow!Browns brings good, classic British food to another level and delivers a setting and ambience for it to be truly enjoyed in. Well done!

Main plus - restaurant staff are fabulous. Really make you feel welcome. Like all Browns they choose cool building interiors like old grand Banks and this one doesn’t disappoint. It’s a great place to meet and isn’t trying too hard to be cool Mcr. Last year I might’ve given the restaurant a higher rank. But the attention to the food seems to have had a few blips -on one visit it was clear the chef was inexperienced (or no good) and the poor staff had to run interference on every dish. Still it’s really worth it if the environment is a biggie for you, feels special without laying out a fortune. Do make sure you’re booked inside the restaurant quarter if you don’t want the noise of the main bars though - it’s more intimate.

The set menu had a good selection of options, and was reasonably priced for the 3 courses. The service was lovely, despite a few hiccups with some of the pre-orders, as expected with such a Large party. & the setting was beautiful, with marble pillars etc. The atmosphere is loud and rowdy, with a good mix of clientele, from people coming for a drink after work to big groups catching up.

Went for breakfast Monday 30th December considering there was only us and 1 other table the food was poor. I left majority of eggs benedict as muffin didn’t taste toasted and the salmon was very salty. My partner also commented on the uncleanliness of the toilet.

Good vibe away from the shopping crush. Food good. Best crumble I have eaten in years. Friendly staff. Service hit and miss. Think we were in midst of a shift change.

What a lovely evening! The service was impeccable, the food was delicious the experience as a whole was faultless. I was particularly impressed with their customer care as two members of our party required use of the disabled toilet and both were very well looked after. Everybody enjoyed themselves and considering it was Boxing Day, it was a lot quieter than expected which ended up being perfect! I will certainly be going again and would recommend Brown’s to anyone! Thank you so much!

Visited yesterday (22/12/2019) for a family meal for my mum's 70th birthday. The staff were very friendly and helpful, seating us in a nice quiet area, perfect for the occasion. Our waitress, Nikola, was very friendly and helpful with everything we needed.

The restaurant had been chosen by work colleagues and I had not visited before so didn't know what to expect. With big parties I know from past experience things are not always right....however I needn't have worried, the food was perfect the team looking after us were lovely, very busy, but still had time to chat to us. I will be coming back in the new year to try out the regular menu. Thank you to all

When you walk through the door it's like stepping back in time, but with a modern twist. Great service at the bar and table was already waiting for us. It was a birthday treat for a friend and she could not stop commenting on the decor, the chandeliers are spectacular. I opted for the lobster risotto, my friend chose the fish pie, which sadly was not available (Pity we were not informed when we were handed the menu's). Instead she also chose the risotto and we were not disappointed and was cooked to perfection. We did not think we had room but we ordered a sweet to share. The profiteroles also did not disappoint. A great experience and am sure we will be visiting again.

Returned to this restaurant after many previous visits but we won’t be returning. I had the Half Roast Chicken which came with a slither of stuffing, one pig in blanket (described as ‘pigs’ in blanket) two quarter carrot slices and one quarter parsnip slice.. over priced and very mean portion. Wife had the fishcake was nice enough but only comes with a sauce.. that’s not a main meal.

Visited last night with work colleagues for a pre Xmas meal. We were seated at 5pm so we able to take advantage of the Set Menu which at £11.95 for 2 courses is good value. However having looked online at the menu earlier in the day and "mentally chosen" what we wanted, 3 of my colleagues were disappointed to find that the mushrooms on brioche they had wanted for their starters was finished - at 5pm on Monday evening when there are supermarkets at both ends of the road this restaurant is on! So a bit of a minor niggle to start the evening but fortunately things were redeemed by excellent food (we had the duck loved parfait and fishcake for starters and then steak, chicken pie, fish goujons and vegan shepherd's pie for main). Have read some comments complaining about the small size of the portions on the Set Menu but we felt the 2 courses were ample and again great value. Would visit again to try the main menu and for the cocktails as my Espresso Martini was delicious!

The restaurant staff were lovely and Aminable. The food wasn’t great, ordered a 9oz rib eye and it was served looking and tasting like a cheap rump steak. Sent the meal back - didn’t want anything else. We had been totally put off.

Ate here on a Friday night with 4 friends. We all decided on the early evening set menu. Two of us asked for Chicken pie but they didn’t have any. We all went for the Fish Goujons. It came within 5 minutes of ordering and was the smallest portion of food I have ever seen. 4 skinny fish goujons (smaller than a birds eye fish finger) and what looked like one small potato cut into 5 pieces. It was what I would have expected for a starter. Not even enough to fill my 8 year old! I eat out regularly and have never been so disappointed. Next up we ordered apple crumble as we thought it sounded the most substantial! How wrong we were. One of my friends started laughing when it was placed in front of her. There was about 3 spoons worth of crumble and a portion of custard in a pot that was so small when I poured it out it didn’t even fill my spoon. This menu is an absolute joke! They even tried to charge us £100 for it - in fact it was £67 with a bottle of prosecco. We left pretty quickly and after a couple of drinks in a nearby bar we went looking for more food! Not sure what the portions are like on the main menu but I won’t be going back to find out.

Browns in Manchester is located within the converted Athenaeum, formerly one of the city’s most famous pubs, and originally the imposing banking hall of Parrs Bank. Designed by Charles Heathcote in 1902, it’s a stunning example of Edwardian baroque architecture with some beautiful art nouveau detailing, particularly in the wrought iron work present throughout our iconic building, it has real character.

Like a lot of people running restaurants (eg Jamie Oliver) they think the solution is to save money by serving cheaper or smaller portions. We stopped going to Jamie Olivers because suddenly there was nothing edible on the menu - then 6 months later he was blaming BREXIT and 6 months after that went bust

Answer: When it is in the menu at Brown’s! First visit here. Lovely building. Ordered fish gougons for lunch and was told they were unavailable as chef was still prepping them (from their lunch time special menu where the options were very limited for a non meat eating person). Ordered the vegan cottage pie. I visualised a standard creation with a golden brown potato topping ..... but no, just beetroot and some lentils in a tomato sauce with green beans in the side. My dining partner shared her fries, otherwise I’d have had to order an extra side. The apple crumble desert with ice cream was very nice.

We never visited Browns in Manchester before but after having drinks at the Liverpool restaurant in the summer decided to give it a try. We were given a voucher as an Anniversary gift and decided to go for breakfast. The interior is stunning with lots of marble and original features. We chose a full breakfast which was beautifully presented and very tasty especially the sausages. Waitress very friendly and attentive. Will definitely re visit and try the lunch menu.

This was a great experience for my self and my husband who visited the tea room recently. The room was so wonderfully decorated with the festive vibe and very welcoming. The young lady who attended our table was called Lottie who was a really pleasant and friendly person. She regularly checked that we had everything we needed. The whole experience was really good and all the staff were so helpful and friendly. The food was excellent with so much choice and also for those people with allergies a good choice. Thank you

We were staying in Manchester to visit a great-niece and her boyfriend and had a spare evening. We had decided against eating in our posh hotel, because the “B-team” was running the bar and they had put us off, badly. What a different world when we entered Don Giovanni’s on Oxford Street (Manchester 1). An immediate and friendly welcome, with the cheery and involved banter continuing throughout our evening. No, this was not intrusive, Zehra was intuitive enough to know how to treat each table. This was back in April and so I can not now recall either the wins of the courses, but we’ll be back. What a joy. - thank you Zehra and co.

I have been to the oxnoble a few times now and felt compelled to leave a review at my earliest convenience. The pub is a decadent, historic building nestled within the heart of Castlefield. When first entering the pub you’re struck by an awe of comfort and homeliness. The young and spunky staff are attentive, respectful and offer a smile with service at no extra charge. Whether dining, drinking or enjoying a social with friends, you’ll find the experience and environment to be positively enlightening from start to finish. The staff aren’t shy, and aspire to be as welcoming as possible. Faith regaled me with tales of her time in America with cans of beans. Sam as acting manager works incredibly hard to make sure staff and customers alike are smiling and having a good time. Ben’s and Toms funky shirts bring a smile to my face everytime I see them. Lottie knows the bar better than a lifelong local and will tell you straight. Sion is a true old school gentleman and will treat you properly. Adam will be fondly missed. And the new girls are the two sides of Ying and Yang. In short: A trip to the Oxnoble pub is one of the most enriching, rewarding and wholesome experiences of your life.
