Gioia Mia Cafe in High Peak

yes yes wot a bangin place. Needed some scran and this is the place to go. Yes it is obviously the cheapest quality that you can get but being on universal credit I am strapped for cash so I have to visit these places. There is nowhere else I can get a pack of cigs and a breakfast for a tenner so this is the shizzle. Most people won’t feed this food to their dog but I haven’t got much dollar so this place deserves a medal. It makes a nice treat so I don’t have to visit the food bank and I get to be waited on like a king for under a tenner! 8/10

Really friendly local cafe. Ali takes time to speak to everyone. This cafe has a real community atmosphere. Freshly cooked food when you order. Highly recommend this place.

A wonderful warm welcome here from host Ali who has a great sense of humour! We had great hot drinks and breakfast, all freshly prepared and served with a smile.

Knife not cleaned full of food and oil, put me off eating my meal. Would not recommend coming here. Talks about hygine on the wall but no clean cutlery just takes the piss.

We came here for lunch before going out for a walk around new mills. I ordered the scampi and chips which was very nice with homemade chips and my partner had the jacket potato with beans and cheese both meals were nice and good portion sizes. We both had a 7up and a cup of tea and the total bill was £20. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend.

Café was busy, owner is friendly and funny. Food was excellent, but the BEST part were the hand cut chips, cooked to perfection.

Disorganised chaos. Man taking orders randomly wrote them in a middle of a book then expected his assistants to know what was ordered. Waited 15 mins and left. The assistants would have done better on their own!

Visited on Friday 15th July 2022, I ordered a BLT sandwich at £4 and a large cappuccino at £2.20. The BLT came in a large fresh bap, soft and quality bread. The back bacon was quality and nicely cooked. Lettuce and tomato was fresh. All in all perfect BLT. Cappuccino was good quality coffee, very nice drink. I work in the town, so will be definitely revisiting soon.

We have visited this cafe on several occasions. The owner is very friendly and helpful. Not an extensive menu but frequented by the locals.

I called in for a takeaway lunch- had the falafel and hummus wrap. I was personally served by the owner, who is charming. My wrap was huge- I still ate it all! Proper wrap too- not the plastic sort from the supermarket, and tasty filling.

I made this the turning point of my walk from up the valley, and boy, am I glad I did. Lovely little place, relatively easy menu to understand, no pretentiousness, yet clean and cheerful. I visited a couple of years ago and have been reminded why I returned. Recommend splashing out on the Arab sweets. What's not to like about honey and nuts? Will return.

Visited with my parents for lunch earlier on this month. Very nice friendly staff, and the manager welcomed everyone individually as they walked in which was very nice. Made us all feel very welcome, and the food was absolutely delicious! All the staff were lovely, and I will definitely be returning.

Warm welcome. I only came in here mid morning whilst I was waiting for a train and just had a coffee and toast. Both were good and reasonably priced. The guy serving was pleasant. I saw some people being served some delicious looking food whilst I was here. If I were in New Mills in the future and hungry I would definitely call in.

We dropped in for coffee this morning before heading off walking. Very friendly welcome. Asked to sign in for Covid 👍. The best hottest cappuccino I have ever had 😀. Clean tables and loos. Sorry I wasn’t hungry enough for cake. Give this place your custom as they are doing things right and we need to help out.

I've been frequenting Gioia Mia for many years, The owner is friendly and (although he wouldn't want me to say so) very kind. I've never had cause to complain about the food, atmosphere or the lovely Ali's service and attitude (and having been in the food business myself in the past, I know how difficult that can be at times!). Nothing is too much trouble. Ali's daughter makes excellent home-made cakes and the tea is good and strong. The occasional special themed evening events are great fun. Everyone is friendly and as an elderly, single lady, attending the speciality evenings alone, I never feel like a "spare part".

A very small cafe with a friendly owner. Immediately offered to push tables together so we could sit together. The bill didn't seem to come to very much at all.

This cafe is the best one in New Mills . The food is delicious and the atmosphere is friendly . Ali the owner is a friendly happy person who greets everyone with a smile. Whether you're a walker tourist or live in New Mills it's worth a visit .

A very nice surprise, a small cafe (6 tables) with a nice atmosphere and lovely food. Everything was fresh cooked and used good quality local produce. Menu was a mix of British and mild Mediterranean and there was plenty of choice. Would definitely visit again

Had a great BLT sandwich and lots of local banter from the owner and regulars. Would happily come back for some of the bigger events in the weekend. Very impressed and look forward to having a full English next time

Very weird atmosphere, service was very slow and the food was awful and overpriced. Took over an hour to be served, understandable with home cooked food, but we had only ordered a salad and a sandwich. When the owner did begin making it, an hour after we ordered, it took less than 5 minutes to make. The sandwich was very small for the price and served in the middle of a plate with nothing else. Salad was brown and soggy, we did not eat it. I love local eateries but the owner here made us feel very uncomfortable. Would not return!

Love the food here, freshly cooked and the owner can’t do enough for you. Don’t hesitate and the coffee is pretty special.

Weird atmosphere of locals. Food was overpriced and not great. Some it was microwaved for around £9. Would not visit for food again. Much better places to eat around the area of New Mills

Myself and my partner discovered this cafe last year when visiting family in New Mills. We travel from Newcastle to visit family but we make sure to stop by for a bite to eat every time we visit! This cafe is great, food is delicious and the staff are very friendly. Never had a bad meal here and highly recommend the homemade chips!

There are good cafes and there are excellent cafes, this is on the plus side of excellent. Ali, the proprietor knows his business and provides a good varied menu at very reasonable prices. Very enjoyable for boss , me and the grandkids.

We visited this cafe with our grandchildren. The welcome from the owner was very friendly and when our grandson wanted to have replacement items on his choice of vegetarian breakfast the owner was very accommodating. We all had clean plates including our rather fussy eater granddaughter.

Seduced by good reviews, my wife and I went for brunch on a Sunday morning. The owner greeted us warmly which was a blessing as the place was perishingly cold. Advertised as opening at 10am it soon became obvious that nothing much was going to happen until the waitress came in at 11.00am. We both tried the oatcake with bacon, egg and mushrooms...or more accurately, 'mushroom'. I'm afraid to say the oatcake was burnt on the underside but at £4....who could complain! Despite these things we enjoyed the pleasant service and the good atmosphere as well as the low prices. The plastic, litre bottle of the very cheapest brown sauce which was produced made for an amusing visit! Would I go again? Strangely, yes.

This pretty little cafe had people in it on a wet Sunday afternoon - so following my mantra of never entering an empty restaurant we went in - the greeting was good and we found a perfect seat.

En la calle alta. Buenas opciones de menú. Claramente muy popular con folk local, compartimos una mesa con uno de ellos. Muy agradable. Altamente recomendado.

Café italiano), excelente servicio y muy buena relación calidad-precio. Sin duda, volveremos. Realmente quiero probar el desayuno vegetariano la próxima vez. Y luego salió el sol para nuestro paseo!

Lo siento amigos pero teníamos 2 tazas de tazas de café; la mitad pobre completo así, con leche fría en el lado. Pedimos un bollo y el dueño se lo llevó de la pantalla con las manos después de haber manipulado sólo monedas y billetes, entonces cuando el bollo de llegar, era cubierto de margarina.

El mejor lugar para comer en New Mills la comida y el dueño, Ali es tan cálido y acogedor. Gran selección y casero.

We only visited this establishment for coffee. It is a lovely place which is very clean tidy and inviting and we were made to feel very welome.

This is a pleasant cafe on the main street in New Mills. I pop in here quite often. The owner, who seems to be there nearly all the time, is pleasant and accommodating. The food has a Middle Eastern twist, but you can get anything from a bacon sandwich to a vegetarian English breakfast. A cut above your usual cafe.

Was working in the area and called in about 10am .Had sausage sandwich and a hot chocolate.The drink was served first and the sandwich 10 mins later.the owner was on his own serving and cooking the food by himself.He was very friendly.The place was very clean.Worth a visit.

Called in for a breakfast bap the man was very welcoming and asked us to take a seat whilst he delivered another order... He came to us and took our order within 10 mins it was delivered I didn't mind the wait as food is cooked to order very nice food and we will be back soon

I ordered soup of the day and a toasted sandwich, my friend ordered full English. The full English was fine by all accounts, mine however was a shambles. The vegetable soup of the day was very obviously from a tin, it had that distinctive taste. The accompanying bread roll was a cheap and quite stale oven bottom muffin that had been sliced very unevenly and very stingily pre "buttered" with nasty margarine. The cheese and onion filling in the toasty was witnessed by myself going in the microwave. Very poor.

I'm visiting from Canada, and I was walking a friend's dog. There was nice area seating outside, the bartista took my order, and came back with a little plate of meats for Fynn. The latte and service was outstanding. Thank you!

Always a warm welcome and nothing is too much trouble, the owner even went across the road to the butchers to get the sausages we'd enquired about - well worth a visit.

We had a great mid-morning breakfast, cooked to order and served with a smile. Two of our party were not so hungry but were willingly provided with one breakfast shared between two plates, with no fuss or questioning. Excellent value, clean throughout and a really good vibe about the place!

I love gios! Whenever I'm in town I'll try and pop in for a drink or some lunch. The atmosphere is always welcoming and a good spot to watch the world go by. Even does a good veggie fry up which is always tasty!

I came here with two 9 years olds and asked if it was possible to get child's portions for spaghetti. The owner said "I'll see what I can do" which was an odd response and then promptly served up two adult portions and charged accordingly. I thought the food was very average, and I found the whole business of the child's portions quite dishonest.For the sake of being reasonable and either a) giving a straight answer or b) providing child's portions I won't ever be back here, and I will not recommend it to anyone.

This pleasant café is in the heart of New Mills on Market street and is a popular meeting place for coffee and a chat. The owner, Ali, is attentive and friendly and quick to serve with a smile.Although always busy, there is normally seats available even though it is quite compact inside.Very clean and cosy, the aromas hit your senses as you open the door, needless to say the food is delicious and with a home cooked style.Even just to sit and chat over coffee, tea is an experience.The Valentines day menu is excellent and not pricey at £15 per person for 3 courses. Also very handy for bus and train services, both within walking distance.

Called here one Saturday morning for a coffee while we were shopping. It's lovely ended up having a Mediterranean breakfast which was super. Based on Market Street in the heart of New Mills. An excellent little café that serves fantastic coffees and food. Friendly and helpful staff, this is a fantastic place to meet friends or colleagues who are making their way to New Mills. Very easy to find from New Mills Central station.

Excellent little cafe/Bistro on the high street, possible to park outside but only for 1 hour. Made to feel very welcome as soon as we walked in great interaction with our children & ourselves. Reasonable prices, good food and portions serves breakfasts until 2pm. Only downside to this place is cash only. If you're local or staying local they do evening meals with a Mediterranean touch. Free wifi available too!!

We discovered this small café on the main street in New Mills after a walk along the canal. The friendly owner made us feel welcome immediately and cooked superb breakfasts for us even though it was 2 in the afternoon! There is a Middle Eastern twist here and the vegetarian breakfast included hummus, falafel and olives. The English breakfast was copious! Tea was served in a huge pot for 4 of us with china cups and saucers. They also do all the usual café stuff and excellent coffee and cakes. An excellent-value, unpretentious café. Definitely worth a visit!
