Arrived with my wife for some tea and coffee as the weather was shall we say, rather wet. The Man who served us seemed preoccupied with tapping on his phone and seemed uninterested in serving, perhaps we came at a bad time? I don't know. Anyway the tea was weak and my coffee was lukewarm. The whole place just seemed rather soulless and no atmosphere which is a shame because it could do so much better. The place was clean however but it just needs a bit more life and friendliness.

Good little find. Gluten free options available for sandwiches and cakes. Friendly and helpful staff with one man who really knew what he was talking about with being Gf. They checked ingredients on the chutney and allowed me to check too. Sandwiches, pasties and cake were delicious.

We are a vegetarian family so an independent cafe serving just veggie food is something I was hoping I could support. Despite reading some terrible reviews on here we thought we’d give it a try in case the one-star reviews were written by peeved meat-eaters. We visited for lunch, were seated quickly and ordered from the counter. The selection wasn’t huge, but it was adequate for a light lunch. We ordered a selection of rolls and pastries: they arrived quickly and were adequate. A little salad garnish would have gone a long way. The serving staff weren’t too chatty and cheerful but everyone has an off day. One of the servers was eating behind the counter where food was being served. It wasn’t terrible - the service was prompt, but the food wasn’t up to much, and given the choice I’ll go to Greggs next time. We won’t make a return visit.

Utter garbage. There with my wife, mum and her bf. My mum's pasty was cold on the inside so took it back and asked them to heat it up properly.....it came back as cold as it left. Wife got the "sausage" roll, said it was the worst sausage roll she'd ever had with no flavour other than the pastry. The roll with my egg mayo sandwich was dry and clearly past fresh and was basically a boiled egg sandwich, not a hint of mayo or seasoning. Mum's bf had the cheese and tomato sandwich which was OK. After complaining they gave us a refund for the pasty. All in all, crap food and staff that don't have a hint of how to interact with customers to make it a worthwhile place to eat. Shame really as you'd expect a better experience in such a lovely place as Hawkshead. Avoid !

They describe themselves as a vegetarian tearoom with vegan options. As a niche establishment, we expected something a little more creative and interesting than a cheese roll or an egg roll. The cakes looked nice but were expensive so we gave them a miss and just settled for cheese rolls and a cappuccino coffee each. The rolls came to us slapped on the plate with no flair or finesse, nor was there any salad garnish or crisps. £20 for something I could have knocked up for around £2 at home, we definitely won't be going back

What sort of ‘business’ shuts at 2pm on a Friday afternoon in July? Hawkshead is devoid of tourists nowadays, I am not surprised. We went elsewhere to spend our money and it wasn’t in Hawkshead

Terrible customer service, rude man serving, confrontational and caused an unnessesary atmosphere. Didn’t manage to try food as he was so bad!!! Would not recommend….

I was shocked at the price of a latte. £3.80 is very overpriced. Unfortunately I’d already ordered before spotting the price or I wouldn’t have bothered. Additionally, the cafe didn’t have change for a £20 note which strikes me as amateurish.

Very disappointed when we visited.. went in to an empty cafe, 1 person sat outside, and asked for the afternoon tea that is advertised outside. To be abruptly told it is pre book for afternoon tea only with a minimum of 24 hours notice. This should be stated outside where their ‘afternoon tea’ is advertised in big bold writing. Hawkshead is full of people visiting for the day so I don’t really understand the 24hour rule. The cabinet was full of scones & cakes - which surely could’ve been thrown on to a stand with a sandwich added.

Wonderful, friendly staff and truly dog friendly. Delicious vegetarian food - we even got some more to take away. Cakes and scones delicious. Such a relaxed atmosphere, it revived what had otherwise been a disappointing trip to the lake district where we starting to wonder what the fuss was all about. Can’t believe some of the negative reviews on here as totally the opposite to our experience.

Been here before and enjoyed it. Brought my friends this time who thought the cakes were average and the prices were high. To be honest 3.50 for a can of pop is a tad steep! That said the staff were pleasant but visibly clock watching to go home. I thought the scones were delicious.

Poor, indifferent service. Waited ages for a simple hot chocolate which was also not particularly good. First and last visit to them. Expensive for what it was too.

Cakes looked good, but were disappointing. Couldn't finish the bananna and walnut cake because it tasted synthetic. Slightly overpriced for a disappointing experience, I wouldn't go back.

What a little gem this tearoom is! Such a great find, and exactly how we like to see tea rooms - spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated, it was like stepping into a tea room if Mrs Tiggywinkle had owned a tea room! There was a great selection of sweet and savouries - I hadn't seen the sign outside saying it was a vegetarian café, and I had heard someone saying about the fact that they didn't want such when we were coming out. We soon set them straight as to what an excellent find it was, and that the cakes were delicious. This is what tea rooms should be like, and I wish there were more like them. The last one we went to on a par with this one was in Cornwall, so we really hope that it's well supported, and can keep going for many years to come. Thank you to everyone there!

The staff were lovely. We enjoyed the coffee and cake so much that we came back the next day for another slice of blueberry sponge cake.

Chaotic and disorganised. Shown to a table. Sat for 15 minutes and ignored by the 4 staff on duty and then walked out and across the road where we were served straight away.

Cost!!!!! Two lattes and two plain scones with butter and jam. SEVENTEEN ENGLISH PIUNDS AND TEN PENCE Yes. £17.10p I was at The Albert Hall last month and their prices weren’t that much. The scone was warmed in the microwave. Two small knobs of butter and a jam pot that just about covered each half of the pretty small scone. Latte was about 200ml and average. Lidl do their own in a sachet that is better. Sainsburys 5 scones for a POUND are of approximate size and of equal taste. In short. I felt like I was tazered when I gave over the cash. I couldn’t believe it, but being a typical Englishman I said thank you and walked away without murmuring a word. I expect to pay a little more in these types of places but £17.10p. They really should be wearing a mask holding a pistol.

Just popped by for a snack. The cheese scones were probably the best I’ve had in a long time. Tasty, correct texture and nicely served with a tasty chutney - lovely touch. The tea was also excellent served in a china tea pot - a must for a good cuppa. Thank you.

Tried the drive thru...waited and waited was nobody home?, Was it closed? Reversed out and entered the shop and waited at the counter and waited and waited....3 or 4 staff just chatting away oblivious to customers. 17:00 pm on Saturday. Outstanding service.

We only wanted a coffee and a cake as it was only 11.15 AM but had to queue for 20 minutes behind people ordering hot food and spending ages deciding what they wanted at the last minute Nice stuff but it needs organising a lot better Guess as its volunteer run it depends very much on what the staffing is on the day They need a separate area for those just having coffee etc rather than a meal

Good location, pleasant staff but expensive for poor quality coffee and stale cake. Was offered a refund on the cake which I declined.
