Called in on way to the beach, had cuppa and a raspberry ruffle cake, which was very nice just the right size. Tea came with an egg timer so you could tell how long it was brewing for. Dog friendly even had a big tea pot of water and bowls on the shelf for dogs. Cakes and bread here are baked fresh each day and although we did not have sandwiches the couple on the table next to us did and they filled the plate. Just wished I lived closer so I could go again soon.

Lovely little coffee shop with amazing cakes and lovely sandwiches. Unfortunately when we arrived we had a long wait to place our order. Not enough staff on to cope with how busy they were. One gentleman making sandwiches and one lady taking orders - making coffees and one other person serving. Waited quite a while to place our order and people behind me were complaining about how long it was taking. The lady who served me wasn’t very pleasant actually felt like I shouldn’t have been there. No please or thank you at all Food was nice but need more staff and perhaps a smile and please and thank you when serving

So disappointed First visit after a recommendation from a friend. Cakes, sandwich , tea and coffee were absolutely beautiful. Not overly big portions but not overly pricey either. All good so far. ………the gentleman( owner? ) who served us was so unfriendly, no smile , no ‘ good afternoon’ - absolutely no custom service at all. I can’t understand this at all. Will probably go back and give them another go - but if I receive the same terrible service, I wouldn’t return. Not wanting to spoil the visit , I didn’t mention my disappointment to my family. As soon as we stepped outside my adult son verbalised my thoughts.

My first visit & certainly won't be my last ! A good variety of sandwiches to choose from, I had a Ham salad sandwich, tasty ham (not plastic ham) & fresh salad (not limp & sad looking) it was Excellent. The cakes all looked fabulous & the most difficult decision was what to choose !! I opted for Coconut & Pineapple cake - Yummy There were also Homemade scones & a good variety of drinks to choose from A Hidden Gem in Hadston, nice atmosphere a definite 10 out of 10 from me

Its a sandwich. It is delicious, Home made bread, home baked ham and pease pudding. Try it. Dont think you could go wrong with any choice at this cafe we found purely by chance having got a bit lost. All the breads, cakes and pastries are made in house. The gingerbread is better than mine - that's saying something 'cos am very proud of my gingerbread. Everything was excellent. Cannot recommend too highly.

We were touring with friends from the USA and reliving some of my Wife’s younger days. We needed a light lunch and resorted to the Internet to find somewhere near our route. What a great decision to choose the Gingerbread Coffee House! We were warmly welcomed to what, I am sure, is a family business. Three of us chose sandwiches. We had the Ploughman’s, ham and pease pudding and egg mayonnaise all on malted bread. There was also a portion of delightful lemon cake. Together with 3 lattes and some water, we were quickly served. All the bread was baked on-site and so were the cakes as far as I am aware. The options are not hugely extensive but there was no need as the ingredients and variety were sufficient to please almost every taste. We travel very widely and eat very good food wherever we can. We will certainly visit here again when we are within range. Probably the greatest compliment was from our American friends who said it was so good they would vary their route if they were in the Region to eat ( and drink) there again. And all at a very competitive price. Well done the Gingerbread Coffee House.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

So the staff/owners of the Gingerbread Coffee House in Red Row Morpeth excelled themselves today in the continued joyless and dismissive manner with which they serve their customers. Unfortunately my love of cakes and the reasonable prices are the only reason I return despite the appalling customer service. I visit this place on a weekly basis for takeaway cakes, but also with a friend to eat in and have a coffee with cake. I may be in the minority but when I have a hot drink I like it to stay hot through every sip. When at home I do this by topping it up with boiling water halfway through my drink. When I'm out, I counter this by asking for hot milk and then a top up of hot water part way through. This is the only way I can enjoy a hot drink 🤷🏽. Weird I know. So, in the past when I have asked for a top up of hot water at the GCH I have been provided with it. Albeit with little grace and clear annoyance from the owners. Today I asked for the same and was told that they are no longer providing refills! I was very disappointed by this, but owing to dismissive and ungracious way in which they have behaved on every visit, I was not surprised. When I asked the reason for this I was told that this was due to rising costs and that it was also unfair to their other customers. I would however like to point out, that a request for hot water is not technically a refill it is in fact just hot water. Also, firstly if it is a matter of cost I am more than happy to pay an extra 20/30p for a jug of hot water. Secondly, how is this unfair to other customers. Surely if they want the same you can charge them too? However, if I am the only person that makes this request, how and why is this even an issue? Regardless of how popular a small business may believe itself to be, it really cannot afford to alienate it's customers by providing a joyless, begrudging and borderline rude service and expect people to accept this without comment and continue to return. On the many occasions I have visited I have been unerringly polite despite the lack of reciprocation from the business owners. Going to a Coffee Shop should be a pleasant and enjoyable experience, however the proprietors of the Gingerbread Coffee House seem to go out of their way to make it anything but that. I think I'll give the Running Fox in Felton my custom instead. They may be a bit pricier but at least you get service with an actual smile and a warm welcome. Much like the additional water they also provide.

We’ve passed Gingerbread Coffee House many times but never found the opportunity to visit. We finally did so today. Absolute gem of a place. We had tuna sandwich and egg mayo sandwich. There is a choice of breads but we both had the malt which is made on site. They were both delicious. Then we had the ‘slutty nutty pie’. This was amazing - really light but still so tasty. Lattés finished off our first visit but we’ll certainly be back. Friendly staff and track and trace in place. Note there are only two tables inside and two outside so be prepared to get takeaway if you arrive at a busy time.

Entered this delightful little coffee shop and was really impressed with the inside; beautifully presented cakes to die for, great selection, Good display, corporate crockery, they’ve got it all but...... Not the first to say it seems, there’s a distinct lack of communication. No eye contact from entering the small shop, no greeting or acknowledgement whatsoever. Such a shame as you are made to feel very awkward, unwelcome and quite frankly, you feel like walking back out the door! Surely, good manners cost nothing, that’s the easy part of what seems to be a great little asset in such a small village. I’m sure the owners have worked extremely hard to get where they are as that is evident but, a bad reputation can make or break a small enterprise such as this. A simple smile, hello, acknowledgement to your customers is all it takes.

I’m so grateful to the person who recommended this delightful coffee shop. This is not an area we would normally have driven through but am glad we decided to follow her advice. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted by an array of enormous, freshly homemade & absolutely delicious cakes. Then you are greated & treated like a long lost friend. The proper barista coffees (superbly made), quality Bari Tea & interestingly flavoured scones (today’s special - Cheese & Pepperoni or Fudge) were a welcome surprise. At the moment they don’t accept card payments but we were told that it would be coming shortly. It was surprisingly busy, considering how small the village & shop are. Lovely coffee and tea; delicious cake and scones. Can't fault it on that. Service? Very poor. Your customers are your lifeblood so they deserve a smile and a polite response to a request for two scones rather than "No, we've only got one left". Surely an "I'm sorry but there is only one left so maybe try a ............" is better. Was there half an hour and never saw a smile or a customer greeted with a "Good afternoon" or anything. Quaint, corner cafe with a friendly Gingerbread man sign. This was my second visit, sadly. The abrupt manner of the owner hadn’t changed, I asked for non dairy milk, soya or goats and was told that they didn’t do that there. So a paper cup with scalding coffee was given to me, I asked for a double cup please, and was waved to the window ledge for a cup holder. I have problems with my hands, the cup was scalding and the room tiny. I felt embarrassed and flustered, especially when the host huffed and started to come around the counter, I asked again for a double cup as I couldn’t manage the holder. I had popped in for a coffee to take to the beach, I was embarrassed and made to feel most unwelcome. Just beware what you ask for.

Was almost impossible to choose which flavour cake - there was also Mississippi mud pie, coffee and walnut and maple and pecan to choose from plus a gluten free blueberry loaf and a couple of traybakes.
