Gilley’s Diner in Portsmouth, NH, is a hidden gem for anyone looking for classic diner food in a charming, nostalgic setting. My wife and I stopped by for a quick bite and were impressed by the experience. She ordered a hot dog with fries, and I opted for a double cheeseburger with fries. Both were served within 5 minutes, hot, fresh, and full of flavor. Despite the small menu, the food is top-notch for diner fare, and the friendly service adds to the experience. The diner itself is small and quaint, with only six seats, but the charm of this old food truck-turned-diner more than makes up for it. The service was fantastic—there's only one person running the place, and she handled everything seamlessly. If I lived in the area, I'd be here at least once a month. Highly recommend for anyone craving a quick, delicious meal in a cozy, old-school diner atmosphere.

A cute little diner car. The food was average, except for the poutene (fries with gravy and cheese curds) that was delicious! I like the snappiness of the hot dogs but I should have gotten it without the chili. It was very messy. The cheese burgers were average. This was my 3rd visit in a few years. It's cute and very tight. Being a plus size person it was difficult to sit at the counter seats but we managed. It wouldn't say it's a must see but you should try it at least once.

Woman employee/cook was extremely rude!!! I agree with the other reviewer who said she should not be working with the public! With a pregnant woman, two seven year olds and a ten year old girl after a long drive and after going out of our way to get there, we waited for over 15 minutes to place our order. The woman then harshly and rudely snapped, “What do you want!?”. We were all taken aback by the tone of her voice. She had the worst attitude I’ve encountered in the service sector in decades. She actually said to a regular customer who asked how she was that she’s beginning to hate her job. That much was obvious. She forgot to make a seven year old’s hot dog and copped an attitude when it was pointed out to her. She went back to check the order not believing what she was just told. She then shoved a hot dog laying in water into a bun and slapped it on the counter without even apologizing for her mistake. After that experience, we managed to find a picnic table out back to try to enjoy the food. The food was terrible and not worth the over priced cost. The fries were swimming in oil, limp and unsalted. The woman then came out a door at the back of the diner to deliver food to a table of white people who were obviously regular older customers of hers. They thanked her for doing that, and she loudly said, “Of course, you tipped me, I love you! Other people should learn to do the same!” while glaring at our little girls, our table and us as she quickly went back inside. Tips are earned and not given for rude and poor service. We ordered our own food and carried it away, and it’s appalling that this person thinks she deserved a tip after how we were treated by her. I always tip in cash after having my food and, although she could’ve recovered from her initial errors, as she made the experience so much worse, no tip was warranted! It’s a shame because I had eaten there years before, and the man was so pleasant, thankful for the business and nice. The food also was better. The restaurant was much busier then but the cook kept the orders moving and business was brisk. It’s clear to our family why it no longer is!

A real find if you love old diners and griddle cooked burgers. Atmosphere was so like the old days of Happy Days except on a minature scale! Homemade fryers to die for, cheesy burgers and 8 seats to eat on. Loved it!

Parking was very easy and getting in/out with my order was super fast. Got a double cheeseburger with everything and a steak sandwich. Thought I was gonna like the burger more than the steak sandwich but I think I liked the steak sandwich better. Both excellent. Wandered around Portsmouth which is a beautiful city.

This place is locally known as just 'Gilley's', not Gilleys PM Lunch, and you'll find a lot more reviews under 'Gilley's'. (Technically, it's named Gilley's Diner). It's an institution in Portsmouth and has been around forever. It's housed in a charming, nostalgic diner structure and open very late. It has a variety of good steamed hot dogs and hamburgers, fries, homemade beans, and sandwiches. They're known more for their hot dogs than anything else, but people love their burgers, too. Even though I try to avoid eating hot dogs, that's what I always get when I stop by. Gilley's is convenient, cheap, quick, and good.

Gilleys PM Lunch and Gilley's are the same establishment located at 175 Fleet St. It's a great diner with the best Burgers, Dogs, and Fries you could ask for in a classic tiny old diner. It is a must visit if you want a bite in Portsmouth. But the real, most, Tripadvisor reviews are at Gilley's.

Visited this pub and stayed about 2 years ago, lovely rooms, great pub, cosy & inviting, great atmosphere and food. Visited pub this Easter weekend, well I was shocked! I assume changed hands as now run down and empty considering 8.30pm on Saturday evening. Not sure what it's meant to be but certainly didn't feel like a pub, more like a cross between a village hall and an Indian restaurant when you look at furniture. Place full of tables set for diners with mismatch metal chairs garden furniture and high back chairs from a restaurant, no comfortable sitting at all. Felt awkward sitting there for the 1 drink we had and they were already clearing bar to close for the night. Cold and clinical lighting and I won't mention the toilets! Disappointed visit and sad that the pub has lost its charm. Won't be visiting again plenty of other lovely pubs just a few 100 yards away.
