Giggling Squid Leicester in Leicester

It was my first time here and I am sure I will be back. The staff were amazing! Friendly, helpful, and checking on us. I have read the food is delicious and now I can say exactly the same. It is about the flavour and texture that makes it unforgettable, and you want more! Well done!

Waitress? Great. Atmosphere? Friendly; so why the four stars I hear you ask? Spring Rolls. The menu clearly said ‘Spring Rolls’ - NB the use of plural, indicating a minimum of TWO spring rolls. Below is an image of the ‘rolls’ received; it is in fact a singular roll, split into two.

Food was great and fresh, bit on the expensive side but the portions are huge so worth the money. Definitely recommend

NOT SUITABLE FOR MUSLIMS OR UNIQUE DIETARY REQUIREMENTS!. Absolutely shocking experience in this restaurant two of my close friends are Muslim, we went to this restaurant, as they have been to other branches in the past. Before sitting down, we checked if they had halal chicken, we asked the waiter who said the wings and duck spring rolls are not halal. Not a problem when they had been to giggling squid in Nottingham they swapped these items out. We sat down, the incompetent waitress didn't bring us a menu for my friends daughter who was eating with us. She only brought this out after we had ordered which meant a delay my friends daughter food being brought out. We tried ordering the lunch platters, two regular platters for my wife and I. Two platters for my friends, however we politely asked to swap the non halal items (wings and duck spring rolls) for just plain vegetarian spring rolls. Should be easy enough, cheapest thing on the menu, going to be significantly less from a cost perspective, as they are cheaper than both non halal items. The waitress said she will check, she went to the kitchen and said its not possible. My friends had mentioned they've been to the Nottingham branch and done the same thing. The waitress said ' we can't because of the way things are cooked and set out. Rubbish excuse It was late in the afternoon, we had a small child with us, we were going to go somewhere else to eat but decided with the little ones schedule we would just have to stay. Disappointed we asked to speak to the manager who gave the same rubbish excuse. We then had to order items separately for my friends and work with the manager to find a solution for the obnoxious chef who I can only assume is racist, who couldn't simply bring out the dishes as part of the meal deal, but make someone order each item separately which is the same thing. My friend did the math the meal was more expensive and asked then manager to cover the cost of the rice to make the expense more barable. Why did we have to come up with the solution for this ? Why is the chef particular about something but happy to serve the same dishes separately. This was shocking in 2024 to be in the middle of Leicester, which has such a strong Muslim community and not be able to swap items from the menu to facilitate someone's dietary requirements is ridiculous. I would ask the management to investigate this, it's truly unacceptable, nobody should ever feel singled out based on there background. The one star is for the food as it actually tasted good but the experience let a terrible tast in my mouth. I would have left 0 stars otherwise You failed at your mission to serve great tasting Thai food and a truly welcoming experience for our guests no matter how far our tentacles reach across the UK. We didn't feel welcome and will not return to your restaurant. I encourage others to reconsider before going here.

Excellent food, but quite expensive. One of the best Massaman curries (my go-to dish) that I have had. Coffees afterward a little disappointing.

We went for a birthday lunch on Sunday. The meal started well, drinks and starters were quick to arrive. However, mains were a totally different experience. The food was cold, had clearly been standing for a while as one dish had a "skin" on the sauce and the meat that was described as pink on the menu was overcooked. My main was served on a plate with a sizeable chip in it, not sure when it happened but as food was inedible anyway, I didn't risk it. Two of the mains were brought out after the other three and they were cold also. We paid for the starters and drinks, and were grudgingly given a 10% discount. We were all looking forward to the meal as it was for a birthday, unfortunately the experience was not one to get a redo.

The food was fragrance, piping hot and delicious. Very attentive to our needs. Homely decor made for a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere

My wife's birthday. She loves Thai. Sad thou that her food was cold and she had boiled rice dropped on her. Only an apology on the night and they deducted the rice off the bill. We gave the staff a tip but was offered nothing for spoiling my wife's birthday.

Had a very poor meal in Leicester on Tuesday 19th FEBRUARY 2024. Thai Green Chicken curry ....only a few thin slivers of precooked chicken, Prawn Pad Thai for two had only 4 Prawns but lots of tofu , Chicken Massaman curry just a few thin, slivers of chicken!!!! What has happened to this once wonderful restaurant? Had a similar experience a few months ago at the West Bridgford branch, but decided to give it another try in Leicester. Unfortunately we will not be back! The place is starting to look a bit tired and shabby too. Very disappointed.

Went for Valentine’s Day with my partner and let me tell you, this place does not disappoint!!! Oh my god was the food amazing! Accommodated to my veg diet and even let me personalise my food! Cannot fault the place at all! The food, service, drinks and staff were all out of this world! Massive compliments to the chefs! It was a meal to remember! Thank you so much to everyone! Xx

Giggling Squid is a very nice restaurant, with helpful friendly staff and a nice atmosphere. The food and drink were very nice, i have only given four stars because, the drinks are massively overpriced, the cocktails were 90 percent ice and when they start at roughly ten quid, thats a hell of a lot of money for a glass of ice. The food was well cooked and presented nicely, with an average sort of price for a main meal being £15, just highlights how expensive the drinks are.

Avoid if you have allergies as it is not safe! My friend had a severe cucumber allergy. We spent a long time explaining this to the supervisor and aligning on the best dishes. The spring rolls then came out on a bed of cucumber with a ‘cucumber allergy’ sticker on them. Thank god we saw them else we could’ve ended up in hospital. The restaurant replaced the dish with no understanding of the severity.

Excellent food, loved the ambiance. Had Thai red curry with jasmine rice and rose lemonade . Friends had chicken with cashew nuts , chicken satay etc.

Terrible experience. Ordered from here on my spouse's birthday through deliveroo which I regret massively, they immediately called after I placed an order and told me that certain items were out of stock so I asked to cancel the entire order and they said "sorry we cannot do that". How can you not cancel the order if certain items are out of stock? I wasted 2 hours with live chat who told me that the restaurant didn't note that any items were out of stock so they couldn't cancel the order, the agent even tried to call the restaurant but no one picked up so I had to accept the mystery food that was coming to me. They ended up being out of king oyster mushrooms so sent me some random assortment of cheaper mushrooms in the order, the other 2 dishes were cold as if they were sitting out for half the day. Seems like they just threw in whatever scraps they had and send the order on their way. No way was it worth £50 and I feel cheated, the worst experience I've ever had from a restaurant in Leicester. Do yourself a favour and order from one of the independent restaurants in Leicester instead of these poorly managed cashgrab chains.

Gave it a 4 as my mains was lacking some punch. I would go for the Pad Kee Mao instead of the Pad Thai. Beef special and starters were great.

We could not recommend this place more! The food, especially the Massaman curry, is superb. The staff is really friendly, and the restaurant has a nice vibe. We hope to return on our next trip to Leicester!

Popped in with my son as i fancied a thai meal. We both had the large prawn pad thai and it was delicious. Had a few side dishes and again were very tasty.

Really nice restaurant in Leicester - would highly recommend the golden money bags for the starter and the chicken and prawn pad Thai for main. Really good service and atmosphere (even on a Tuesday evening when I went).

A fantastic restaurant and delicious food. The service is exemplary as well as the cocktails. We booked giggling squid for a work lunch and nothing was too much trouble. The food was all served on time and there were no errors made considering they were serving 21 people this was great on their behalf.

Tried some of the starters for the Christmas menu tonight. They are available from 27th November. They were all absolutely amazing, especially the pork skewers. Staff welcoming and always helpful. Will definitely be booking a Christmas meal with friends here

I was on a business trip to Leicester and was lucky enough to find this lovely restaurant. The food was delicious and the staff were attentive and friendly. I was eating solo, so was appreciative that the food came out quickly as well - it’s always slightly awkward in a restaurant alone!

Food was very good, so was the service, definitely top 5 restaurants for date night in Leicester, but nearly double other restaurants of a similar quality but that's understandable as it is in a slightly nicer bit of city centre

We visited the Giggling Squid in Leicester today as a family of 2 adults and a child of 12. The service was impeccable ensuring any needs were met and asking just enough how our meals were throughout the evening. The food was fantastic. I’m don’t usually photograph the food but this time to show the quality and presentation I did. For the mains we had sticky chicken, Thai beef and the prawn and crab. It was stunning. If you are a fan of Thai food and want really excellent quality come to this restaurant.

Had the most amazing Thai food at the giggling squid, the lamb and crab we had was of great quality. Staff were professional and attentive. Cocktails also brilliant. Recommend.

This is only one Thai restaurant in the city center. No wonder, as a Thai, I came here craving the luxury taste of my homeland. The result? It was pretty good, honestly. The Pad Thai and the skewer were so nice. Unfortunately though, I also ordered a pork basil stir-fry since I know that basil is quite diffident to find here, and I assume that any restaurant that puts this dish on the menu should have the ingredients to make the food they offer as authentic as possible. This was not the case here. What I received was not the pork basil because there was no basil. It was tasty for what it was, but you should name it something else so as not to give a wrong impression of a pork basil stir-fry to western customers. My suggestion is that you go there for Pad Thai or meat dish, but avoid dishes with Thai or Asian herbs because you might not get the correct version of them.

Really nice food at very reasonable price and good service

We went to visit our daughter at Leicester and wanted to have a Thai meal. Found this restaurant on Google map with very good reviews. Unfortunately, as soon as we walked in the restaurant we knew that it was not an authentic Thai restaurant as the decor is very westernised. The portions were small especially the curry dishes. The meat was a bit dry and bland. The only dish we enjoyed more was the Pad Tai noodles.

The decor really makes for a calm and relaxed atmosphere when dining. The food portions are really nice and the food is very tasty, I appreciate the addition of sides made for sharing as it makes group dining even more enjoyable. I also appreciate the level of detail for making allergy friendly menus

I visited with my male friend on Saturday evening 23rd September. Waiteress who was serving us was not Thai girl. She was western girl. She was trying to flirt with my male friend and was completely and completely ignoring my orders. I had to tell my friend to tell her what I want. Bad waitress. I could have taken her picture or video to prove who she was and what she was going. But at the moment I just want to give review.

Good example of authentic Thai cuisine. Expect top end prices to match top end nosh.

Wonderful food and wonderful staff, me and my friend had a delicious lunch here and the service was excellent. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere and decor of the restaurant was lovely. I won’t be deducting any stars for this but one slight issue with our stay was a guest on the table next to us - a creepy old man. He kept wandering round the restaurant as he ate alone, asking for a particular waitress, who wasn’t on shift. At one point he then took a phone call and during that phone call all he spoke about was asking about the size of “the new girl’s breasts”. He then later went up to a female member of staff, asked her name while standing rather uncomfortably close to her and touched her on the back without her consent. For some this could be upsetting and uncomfortable for guests, me and my friend however just found the situation bizarre and shot him dirty looks. In conversation with this staff member she told us he was a regular at the restaurant and he has a favourite waitress. I dread to think how he acts around her. Does the management really want to allow this, because if he is a regular - do you really want him creating an uncomfortable environment for staff and other customers with his creepy advances and phone calls about women’s breasts? As I said no stars deducted as this is no fault of the restaurant, just maybe consider some action against this bloke?

we went several times, but it probably depends on who you meet to feel well served today we found a manager who was probably insensitive given that we asked to confirm whether our little girl could consume food brought by us as we had obtained it in the past, given that it is of exotic food. the manager today 10th September forbade us to do so and honestly she lost a good customer. I would like to underline that there were 3 of us + the little girl and that at the end of the meal we spent more than 100 pounds…. thank you Madam

Love the Tapas style lunch here. We had a variety of smaller dishes giving us chance to sample a few bits from the menu. Very enjoyable, we will be back to try one evening.

A really nice place for Thai cuisine, though I wouldn’t brand it as super authentic. For starters, we ordered the salt and pepper squid and the giggling wings which were both amazing! The wings were coated in a delicious glaze which really enhanced the dish. The paneang curry was beautifully fragrant and paired well with the jasmine rice. The soft shell pranee prawns were also really tasty and great to share with the table. We also really enjoyed the pad kee mao, which had a smoky flavour and was cooked to perfection. The papaya salad here was disappointing however, it had an unpleasant taste which was reminiscent of raw shellfish and the spicy element was missing. Given that the other dishes were faultless, I was able to overlook this particular menu item. The cocktails/mocktails looked really interesting but the Chang beer really topped off the dining experience. Great service too.

First time I have been here, it was really good I'd defeniately go back again. I had the squid to start and Thai green curry with sticky rice for my main, both were spot on. The service was spot on with friendly staff in a overall nice place.

This is just my personal review, I have had Thai foods before but I really didn't like it here, also the service was not that great. Went for dinner and had Honeycomb seafood dish, egg fried rice, Jasmine rice and Thai green prawns curry. As drinks we had Mango chilli mosquito and Strawberry cooler. Other than the Strawberry cooler drink, the food wasn't that great.

I came there and just after hello I was on the way to my table, I have got high chair for one kid and colouring book with crayons for second, I hadn't to ask. Inside is clean and good look! About food- is amazing! Really, I am speechless, you must try on your own! I like try new places and new food but that place is something I want to come back and try again!

Ambience - Chic, classy and well kept Service - friendly and accommodating wait staff, they were very understanding of our seating requirements and had great food recommendations too. Food - So, I’m from SE Asia and so I cannot find the food as good or close to what I’m used to but if I forgot that I was at a Thai restaurant and just thought of it as generic Asian style food, it was pretty delicious. I was rather disappointed with the coconut rice which I thought was a sad cop out as I was expecting nasi lemak type flavour whereas it was just rice wth some coconut milk over it? Other than that, they have great vegetarian options which is amazing. Would I visit again? Probably due to the veg options.

Truly authentic Thai food! We have been here now on a number of occasions, at night time its really vibrant and buzzing and at lunch time its very chilled and relaxing. The food is absolutely delicious and very delicately flavoured in the true Thai style and its worth every penny, love it! The only slight disappointment we encountered is that I had requested a banquette two weeks prior to our visit, which they were unable to provide on the day. But we were given a nice window seat after a little negotiation.

I went around 2.30pm on a Friday, was quite quiet. Always friendly and helpful staff, don't have to have a table booking. The food came very quickly and was very nice, we had the giggling pad thai, the vegetarian one and the chicken one. They also have this new cbd infused fizzy drink which was quite nice, all the flavour choices are quite herbal tasting, so bear that in mind! I've been here before when it was much busier and still really good service, food given quickly. I've been served by a lady called Chaya, and she was very helpful and smiley.

Delicious food just bursting with flavour and variety. I had the Prawn Giggling Pad Thai which was very good and filling. The cocktails were also very proffesional and not just some premix (I hope 😂)
