Giggling Squid Kingston in Kingston upon Thames

Went pre theatre and had a lovely meal. Started with prawns - 4 grilled and with a lovely spicy light sauce plus some duck spring rolls Then we had a salad (a side salad) that was so yummy - fresh and delicious. It had halved cape gooseberries, bamboo shoots and lots of crisp veg. Also duck confit which came with pak Choi and broccoli. Big portion and lovely crispy skin Also a chicken stir fry which was nice but not as outstanding as the others. Plus some rice and a large bottle sparkling water Bill was £78 including service.

Went ouT looking for simple and quick lunch 🥪 Everything was great and the staff were phenomenal. Definitely recommended

First of all, the staff were extremely friendly and couldn’t have done more for us throughout our evening. The food? Wow, it was unbelievable from start to finish. The prawn crackers with sweet chilli dip had a bit of a kick to them and were a great appetiser. We got the Chiang Mai to start, all of which was ridiculously good. The salt and pepper squid and the giggling wings being the stand out. For main we shared the sticky chicken and red Thai chicken and prawn curry. Both dishes were so tasty and we just could not stop eating. This was our first time visiting the giggling squid and it most certainly won’t be the last. If you like Thai food, you will not be disappointed.

Really didn’t enjoy lunch here, ordered from set menu, chicken satay green chicken curry with rice , stirred fried veg.green curry was tasteless and main ingredient chicken was 4 Measly little pieces and it was just full of cheap veggies, after asking for bill the waiter asked if everything was ok. Told him I didn’t enjoy the curry and he took one drink off the invoice. Thanks

Visited whilst staying in Kingston for the weekend. Great range of dishes on the menu and lots of gluten free options too (intolerant not coeliac). Attentive and friendly service and good atmosphere. Please expand a little further in the North West!

Absolutely superb food absolutely packed full of flavours. Spice levels are higher than many Thai restaurants so assume dishes marked with 1 chilli are about what you’d see as 3 chillis elsewhere. This isn’t to criticise the food at all, more be careful if you members in your party with a more sensitive palete. Traditional Thai dishes are all great and better than most other Thai restaurants but certainly trying some of the specials that you would see elsewhere. The lamb shank curry was particularly rich and flavourful without being overly spicy. Not quite sure why we were brought starters for everyone and one person was also brought their main (which was obviously finished off before everyone else’s main arrived). Be aware there’s an automatic 10% tax added to the bill. I do find this rather tiresome as a customer. Just put the price you expect on the menu and tips should be optional based on having a good dining experience. Automatically added tips aren’t a tip, they’re a hidden tax and you’re banking on diners being to polite to challenge. The food in particular is easily 5 star. Adding extra charges on the bill isn’t cool and rather spoils the dining experience. Making your customers feel like they’ve been forced into a more expensive payment isn’t an ideal final memory. Just rely on the food and service to get tips.

Yet another great visit to giggling Squid!! We love the lunch menu which is served until 5pm, such great value. We got served super fast and our drinks arrived very promptly, followed by our lovely food. Dishes were lovely and fresh and hot and delicious. Service was very friendly, a lovely afternoon was had, thank you.

A group of 6 of us gave the restuarant only 15 minutes notice for a Monday late lunch. Welcome was warm, seating was comfortable, with service and food excellent If I get the chance, certainly the place for a 'date; '

We had a selection of small dishes, all with subtle flavours. The service was fantastic. The only drawback was that quite a few options on the menu were not available but we were informed from the outset.

Visited here for dinner, no complaints about the food..however when we asked for the bill after eating we were told we could only pay in cash, which luckily we had enough with us. It was my mistake of not checking the bill before paying, I realised after that they had charged us for a starter which we did not have. They apologised and asked us to go to the till and they will refund the money, this time they asked for my card to refund the amount to. A nice waiter was chatting to us at the time, it was our first time visiting the area for my birthday so as we’re talking I gave my card to the lady at the till. After a minute or so she walked off down the restaurant with my card, the waiter said she doesn’t speak good English but was having trouble with the card machine. I then said I can have the refund in cash no problem and would like my card back. He only said she would come back shortly. After a few minutes she eventually returned with a receipt for the refund. A few days later my card was blocked and I had a message to call my bank. Over £500 had been spent on my card and taken my account overdrawn which alerted them. Payments made to Just Eat (which was a Kingston upon Thames address) online shopping, travel tickets, signing up to a gym membership in the area. £300 more was pending but luckily my bank blocked the card. I contacted the police who reported this to the fraud department but unfortunately as I willingly gave my card over there was nothing they could do. We didn’t use my card anywhere else in the area so was definitely in the restaurant this happened. Lesson learnt for me of not letting my card out of sight, but shocking they would do this!

The only reason for the 2* is that the food was edible. Hardly any diners when we arrived but 15 mins before our order was taken. Drinks arrived about 10 mins later. The starters arrived another 10 mins after the drinks and they were, at best, tepid. The prawns were cold and the raw veg accompaniments were stale: cucumber was bruised, peppers were limp and even the carrots had no bite. Nobody around to give feedback to until the starter plates had cleared and we were told that something we had ordered was no longer available; by this time, the restaurant was busier and they’d either given it to somebody else or Deliveroo / Uber. The main eventually arrived and was, again, tepid. When the rice arrived, some 5 minutes later, it thankfully heated up the meal. There was very little meat content in the mains; I think my son had 4 strips of chicken. Very disappointing and little in way of an apology.

We went here for our first date night after Covid19 restaurant restrictions were partially lifted. Neither of us had ever been and wanted to go. Lovely decor, the staff was great and social distancing was adhered to. The food was amazing. We shared two starters (chicken satay and duck spring rolls) and each had a main (sticky chicken and a vegetable cashew stir fry) with a side of rice to share. For puds we shared a prosecco & muddled berry cheesecake. All absolutely lovely and highly recommend them. My only issue is that the food comes out so quickly. I had barely finished my starter when the mains came out. Same goes for mains to puds. Which left me with an uncomfortable full feeling and not able to enjoy the night as much as I could have.

We have never been to this restaurant in person but have had two meals via Deliveroo since lockdown. A friend we recently met said she has been here many times and loves the food so we thought we would give it a try.Last week, we ordered chicken wings, prawn pad thai, duck curry and bok choy/tender stem brocolli. The chicken wings were the only thing that was disappointing as they were not crispy and didn’t have much taste. The veg was a small portion but tasty. The prawn pad thai and duck curry were very good.This weekend we ordered the crispy squid (yum!), papaya salad (delicious and spicy), tamarind duck (very nice), morning glory (great) and the pork curry with roti (tasty). There was enough to feed two people for two meals if you are not a big eater so we had the leftovers for lunch the next day.I am so happy they are open during the lock down. The food is not as cheap as a Chinese takeaway, for example, but the quality for the most part, is worth the price!

Food was absolutely fabulous! Thai is my favourite cuisine and this was top notch!! The flavours and the array of choices make this a must eat! Giggling Squid, Kingston I visited Giggling Squid in Kingston earlier this month for dinner and drinks to celebrate my parents' wedding anniversary. I was very pleased with the great variety of the menu with such a fabulous choice of appetisers, main dishes and desserts. I opted for my favourite Thai Red curry, a classic Thai dish made with a tasty aromatic sauce with coconut milk, which was absolutely delicious and succulent. We also tried the spicy Thai Green Curry which tasted homemade and truly authentic with its blend of traditional Thai flavours and coconut milk. I highly recommend the Wholesome Cashew Stir Fry with king prawns which consisted of king prawns with roasted cashews, mushrooms, peppers, onions and chilli, a real gastronomic treat which you simply must try! For dessert we tried the delightfully flavoured Caramelised Mango Cake which was warm and rich and accompanied with vanilla ice cream, the beautifully presented Prosecco and Muddled Berry Cheesecake, which was light and fruity with a delicious buttery biscuit base and my favourite was the sumptuous Pineapple, Coconut and Mekhong Sorbet, which was very refreshing and flavoursome. I really enjoyed this ice cream version of a Thai Pina CoIada! My whole family were very pleased with their food and were delighted not only with the sensory feast but with the authenticity of the cuisine. I highly recommend the Thai curry dishes which are delicious, flavoursome, very appetising and authentic with fresh ingredients. The restaurant has a wonderful range of wine and we particularly enjoyed the Cava, a perfect accompaniment to our meal! Giggling Squid has a perfect location near the river and is very modern with an attractive and stylish decor. However, for us there was something very special about Giggling Squid in Kingston. We were very impressed with the service which was simply outstanding. On the occasion of my parents' Wedding Anniversary we were struck by their efficiency and kindness. My family and I were delighted with Kevin and S'om's service. They were very attentive and engaging and their customer service skills were excellent. Kevin and S'om were very helpful, friendly and warm. They made our experience at Giggling Squid Kingston extra special. I highly recommend if you enjoy authentic Thai cuisine and you are celebrating a special occasion. Kevin and S'Om really know how to make people feel special! We look forward to returning soon!

We had a lovely Saturday evening meal here. And I have to really commend our waiter Nitesh. He was very attentive, without being annoying, and was really knowledgeable on the menu and what was recommended to order.The food was very good. The prawn crackers were very good and the salt and pepper squid was very good. The two main dishes we had very very full of flavour and the red duck curry was fantastic. We have been to Thailand quite a few times and we felt that the dishes we had were very authentic.Highly recommend

Been here several times, and every one of them excellent.Love the food, great service, great presentation.Friendly and attentive staff (Nitesh) always smiling and remembers us.Have tried other Giggling Squid, but this is by far the best.We love the decor, makes me think of summertime even in our dreary winters.Well done to all the staff especially the chefs who you can see working away in the kitchens.

This restaurant looks like Jaime Oliver rebranded his failed ‘Jaime’s’ concept into a Thai restaurant. The whole interior of the restaurant feels like a place for ‘Afternoon High-Tea’ instead of a Thai restaurant. The prices for the menu is a bit expensive for a chain restaurant. You won’t catch a native Thai dining here ! This place is catered solely for white people to fine-dine in a chain restaurant while having Asian food. There are at least 3 other Thai restaurants in Kingston Upon Thames & Surbiton which serves better menu choices.

We recently had dinner at the Giggling Squid and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The waiting staff were super friendly and happy to help with food intolerances. Our server, Nitesh, was very knowledgable on the menu and was able to offer us suggestions on what to choose.

Ate hear in January, a table for 7. Attentive service, wonderful food, all seven diners enjoyed every course! Of particular note was the Salt and Pepper Squid and the Crying Beef main. I had eaten here once before, around one year earlier and I would say the place has improved from a service and quality standpoint.

Guys, you have done a really great job with your Vegan menu, but then you go and destroy it by serving Jasmine Tea with chocolate made from Animal Products, furthermore, you then bring the bill over with sweets containing gelatin.

Visited tonight the food was quite good. Ordered salt and pepper squid, chicken wings and satay chicken for starters, all quite tasty. However when it came to the main course I was served with the wrong dish, I had ordered beef masiman but was served chicken, so had to wait for a replacement whilst the other diners in our party ate theirs. The other diners in our party received what they had ordered red Thai curry and prawn pad Thai and were happy with their dishes.To add to my disappointment when the bill arrived there was a discrepancy. They advertise 3 starters for £17.95 but this wasn’t deducted from our bill without querying it. We were charged full price for 3 starters. If it’s advertised On the menu why isn’t it automatically deducted, Don’t see why you have to ask. Also 10% is also added to bill for service. Not happy tonight have visited before, food ok, service ok, but with the Wrong order and discrepancy with the bill not sure I’d visit again.

Not good. Bland food, small portions. Chicken wings tasted odd and looked like they had not been cooked. Not for me. Not returning which is a shame because others had recommended.

Came here for a meal with friends. Service was very fast, delicious food, great portion sizes, got the sharing platter and prawn pad thai.

This was once a bustling outpost of the Jamie’s Italian Empire. Where were once photos of Jamie, wife and family on holiday or Jamie and Gennaro cooking is now just wallpaper with flowers and plants. Giggling Squid is fast becoming as large an empire at least in terms of outlets although much more concentrated in the south east than Jamie’s ever was. I particularly like the lunch concept with a multiple choice of tapas, tapas set, main or main plus starter. From the signature squid to the red chicken curry and beef massaman curries all featured the freshest of ingredients. And excellent value.too particularly the set tapas and the children’s menu (starter and main for £5.95). Just a couple of niggles. No large bottle of beer. Espresso initially served without sugar.

Come up to Kingston to see the Christmas market before heading to stay over at Surbiton.Walked past and decided to have a late lunch at this wonderful restaurant. Shared different dishes in their lunchtime combo meals between us .Wonderful flavours, gorgeous venue and absolutely excellent service for a reasonable price. Would highly recommend

Simply amazing staff. When we arrived there was no one at the front desk so we walked through to the main part of the restaurant. The first person we encountered was clearly concerned that no one had greeted us properly. That set the tone that they cared.

Hmm.. So I wanted to give Giggling Squid a go, because well, they’re popping up all over the place. Right.? Here we go..

Really enjoyed our dinner here recently. The squid was excellent as were the wings. The main of pad thai was also very good. Portion size could have been slightly more generous as the amount of squid you get isn’t great. However all in all, recommended.

I wasn't quite as enamoured with the Giggling Squid Kingston on this my second visit, as I was on my first visit in February this year.

The decor was beautifully styled with vibrant colours. The entrance lacked any activity but was deceptive as all of the customers were at the 'main' part of the restaurant. I had a trio of starters, which were the highlight of all the dishes. The delicate mix of flavours were delicious. The chilli sauce to accompany the spring rolls are a definite must have. The squid (first time eater) was cooked to perfection in my opinion. I was pleasantly surprised the starters and drinks arrived within 20mins of ordering.

We had a really good meal, we had mixed starters to share, two big bowls of kebabs spring rolls, squid, sauces all very good. We all had different mains everyone was happy, I had a pork cheek dish which was excellent. The happy Buddha lager was also good and a great bottle!

This was a place with promise. We had a booking and arrived on time but still had to wait and stared at the dishwasher - no waiting area or offer of a drink. Sorry but the menu was annoying - too big and full of silly and outdated hip talk in the style of 'I am an egg that has cheekily been boiled to be my best etc' Just describe the food accurately and simply then let the food say how good it is. staff were very polite but clearly rushed off their feet and my guess is the kitchen were the same. The food was OK but not living up to the menu's promise. I have had better and I get the sense that this place could do better but was overstretched. waited a long time for food to arrive and there were problems - one dish was mainly un-edible gristle. On initial approach there was some reduction on the bill (which included removing the service charge - note that service charge is at the customers discretion and removing it is not a reduction of the bill. The bill was later reduced further which I took as a sign of good will and respect) My feeling is that the staff are trying really hard and are motivated but over worked. On a quieter night I feel certain it would have been much better and I look forward to returning when it is less rushed.

Took my husband here for his birthday. The food was very good and enjoyable with lots of flavour. The restaurant decor was appealing and it was clean and comfortable with adequate space between tables.

We went for a second time, the first being a mixed experience, so slightly dubious. We had heard so many nice things about it we wanted to try again. We were really glad we did.

We booked a table for my daughter’s birthday. Having been to other Giggling Squid’s (Salisbury & Guildford) and thoroughly enjoying them we were looking forward to trying our local one. I couldn’t believe how different it was. Really disappointing- no drinks order was taken - after a while waiter came and took food order and after I asked if we could get drinks too. Crackers arrived (still no drink) then a little while later drinks came. Just seemed to have no ambience unlike others we’ve been to. Waiters didn’t seem to be enjoying what they were doing. Sad as it’s our local one.

Always go here for a bit of lunch the food is great value for money and they have a good wine list for a chain. Cant really knock it

I’ve been to the Esher one but it was our first time at the Kingston giggling squid. I called and asked for one of there best tables as we were celebrating a friend’s birthday, which we got There food is amazing from the starters to the main and even there desserts. It is gorgeous inside and the atmosphere was great. We had two very attentive waiters. When I mentioned it was my friend’s birthday, they arranged a cheese cake for her with happy birthday on the plate and they even sang to her. What a memorable night. I would highly recommend the giggling squid for all occasions.

Went here for my wife's birthday and the children all had kids meals which were of a decent size and none of them finished the lot.

The former Jamie's under a new owner, I'm not as critical as others on this site about franchises and we wanted to try a new venue.
