We visited this place to have a drink or 2. Kingussie does not have any pub really, Chillies is associated to a hotel in the area so the staff gives priority to hotel guests, not us visitors and nothing is wrong with this, priorities are in place I guess.

We found the food tasteless and expensive for the extremely small portions. The ti y tea cup bowl of soup did not taste home made. The cafe down the road gives you 5x more if fresh home made soup for the same price. The calamari was about 8 small tasteless and soggy pieces. We would recommend you fo not waste your time and money here.

Not impressed with the food. My husband got the haggis for starter, one haggis finger, very small portion for the price. He got the pork and veg for main course. Wasn't impressed by it. I got fish for main course which was ok but the veg tasted like it had been reheated. I got cheese and crackers , 3 tiny pieces of cheese, a small piece of celery and a few grapes. Won't be eating there again unless it improves greatly. I did say to the staff about it but nothing was done.

Went in for dinner at 7.50pm, the website said they stopped serving at 8.15, so perfect. Sat down, nothing. Went to the bar at 7.55 to ask about ordering. I was basically barked at saying the website is wrong, the kitchen shuts in 3 minutes, so hurry up. Upon further questioning, I discovered there are two menus but you have to order all meals off only one as there are two separate chefs and the two don't intertwine. Very brusque interaction. We decided to vote with our feet and walked straight out.

Drove out from home a few miles to the Duke of Gordon, for a light lunch. This was our first visit. Entered the Ghillies Rest, the only member of staff did not look up from his mobile phone. We had to interpret his concentration upon his mobile phone activity to find out if we could have a light lunch. The bar lacked atmosphere and the staff member did not want to be here. My brother and I, after a day’s adventuring with him around Kingussie and Insh Marshes, wanted to find somewhere to take our Dad as it was his birthday. We happened upon Ghillies Rest Bar in the heart of Kingussie and part of the Duke of Gordon Hotel. We had a nice dinner and some welcome Cairngorm Ales in quiet and comfortable surroundings. What made our visit extra special was that the staff overheard that it was Dad’s birthday and rustled up a birthday cake free of charge without being asked and presented it to him. It really made his day and so I would just like to thank the bar and restaurant staff for their kindness and generosity - great customer service!

We have been to this bar within the Duke of Gordon Hotel over a few years (many) It has appeared in the past in the basement and in its current location, the front corner of the Hotel. The only problem with this bar is that it does cater for its Hotel customers, (common sense and nothing with that) but if the bar is not busy it is shut about 9 - 9.30 pm then moved inside the Hotel for residents only, and if they are serving a cask beer, it is not replaced on the night (seems to be a trend not just here) When in action it is a really decent bar. A Historic Hotel.

Great service, roadside service station style food. Starter of chicken pate was ok but presentation was poor with only two oatmeal crackers and no butter with a tiny garnish of flaccid lettuce. The salmon was overlooked and dry with a small nod to vegetables (three slices of carrot and a few resentfully produced greasy potatoes) . I had the mince and tattles. I am still trying to figure out how such an easy comfort food dish can be destroyed! The mince was over salted and at the same time tasteless. I can only think that the meat had somehow been scalded so any meat juices and flavour were removed by nuclear heat. We ate half of the food because, being a Sunday evening most other places appeared shut. Shame because see this historic hotel deserves better.

Took my daughter here for a treat and we both ordered the Pork Belly which sounded delightful. The staff were friendly and the service was good. Sadly the quality of the Pork Belly let the meal down completely, we both had two large portions that had been over seasoned totally with crushed black pepper (I like black pepper but there is a limit) and the crackle had all been burnt black. The base of the Pork Belly had all the white gristle bones running through it which should have been cut out and it took a lot of effort to actually cut the meat. The veg and gravy were fine but the Pork was nearly inedible when it should have been soft and easy to cut through.

Food advertised as home made but is of very poor and cheap standard. I ordered the homemade beef burger that is described as hand made in the premises. It came as 2 very thin patties that you could tell were the cheapest the caterers sold. The type you would expect from a burger van. Awful frozen chips undercooked. My partner ordered the chicken ceaser salad. Just iceberg lettuce and sauce from a bottle with grilled chicken. About £8 on average so not an expensive mistake but wouldn't go back

Food tasted like it was mass produced and out of a freezer (probably because it was), worst burger i have had in ages. half the amounts of chips you get from another bar in town. Nachos starter was just a bag of tortilla chips with the same sour tasting cheese that "blessed" the burger, no relish, jalapenos, nothing else. No welcome, cool room, mediocre beer, poor choice on the menu, even worse on the plate. The menu choices feel and sound like they are bought from a mass produced commercial supplier and are reheated in the kitchen. Unfortunately they couldn't even heat the food beyond warm. Bland tasteless uninspiring slopped on the plate kind of rushed catering big chains did in the 90s. For a major hotel in a big tourism area a big disappointment especially when other places are working hard to lift the offering. This place is best avoided and left to wallow in their own pity unless they lift their game and join the 21st century adventure focus on quality local ingredients well cooked and well trained polite staff they deserve to sink. It isn't difficult to do but they are failing.

my family and I ate here on the last night of our stay in the highlands. not a great choice on the menu if you are a fussy plain eater like me, I usually go for chicken but there was nothing I fancied from the main meal menu so I had a ciabatta with bacon and mozzarella. I wasn't really looking forward to it but it was really nice bacon was perfect for me. my husband had duck which he seemed to enjoy. kids had chicken nuggets which were made from real chicken breast. under 4's eat free with an adult dining which I thought was a boost. I would go back again

Staying at the nearby Dornoch Caravan and Camping site we walked into Dornoch for a meal. We chose The Coach House because it is dog friendly. We received a warm welcome by staff and locals alike along with their dogs. Our haddock and chips arrived promptly and were delicious. However, our Westie started making a fuss. One of the locals and then a member of staff offered to “dog sit” so we could enjoy our meal. Exceptional! Thanks to all involved.

This Country Hotel lacks love and attention. Outside front and sides are very tall weeds, the flower boxes were full of wilted. Car park resembles a quary.. On entering the dining room was well presented albeit I felt it chilly . Only 3 diners and we had to wait to see if we would be accommodated. We were..we sat at our table and the really lovely young server took our order limited menu and 3 choices off that evening.. Food was just OK...not value for money @ £17.95 for haddock and chips. Overall not the greatest.. I'd love to see the outside tidied up and give the hotel some road side appeal

After arriving at skye and looking for places to eat this proved a little difficult as it was out of season and places had limited opening hours. We went for Gabbro bar after seeing it on google maps. The pictures of food looked passable. After getting there having to get our own wipes to clean the table after ordering things weren't looking good, then the toilets were very rundown and like a back street bar toilets. The food then came out in baskets, lined with greaseproof paper. (Something you would expect in a arcade) Fish and chips and the macaroni and chips. Even a plate would have been acceptable even though the fish was clearly out the freezer and very greasy. To top it off a random dog was wandering around trying to smell the food on the table and pushing its way under the table to check for any food.

The fab cinnamon buns elevated our coffee stop from great to awesome! Other really yummy cakes are available. Oh, and the vegan tomato pizza swirl looked great too if you fancy a savoury.

A total shambles. Sunday carvery .couldn't eat any of the meat as mostly fat.Plates so small you can't get much else on the plate.waitress saw me trying to catch her attention and hid .eventually came over sheepish with bill and at that point looked at all the fatty meat on plate and her response was sorry about that .we then never say any staff .They had vanished into kitchen .On our way out there was a lady who had mobility issues annoyed there was no disabled access just a set of very steep stairs .£24 each for 2 courses and only starter choice was soup.Dont waste your time .
