10 out of 10. Customer service went above and beyond to help me out and give me water for my dog. Great products I had the apple crumble! Was so rich and tangy with the flavour crumble is crunchy and snappy with great texture.

We stopped for a snack as a family of 6 and there was something in n the menu for everyone. Really family friendly food. Very flexible in food choice which was great for the kids not wanting salad etc on baguettes. All freshly made whilst you wait

We come to Plymouth every couple of years from the USA. One of our first stops is always Gertie’s. It’s so nice to get a fresh delicious meal without having to waste time sitting in a dull restaurant. It has something for everyone too. Priced right, fresh ingredients, delightful staff, and wonderful food. Grab a bacon butty and jump on the ferry to somewhere beautiful!

Fantastic location, service and value for money. Had the most amazing baguette with salad and a coffee for £6 meal deal, considering the prime location on Plymouth Barbican this has to be the best value, delicious baguette and the salad was wonderful. Friendly and relaxed with super service. Well done, will definitely be my regular venue now.

Delicious paninis and baguettes with choice of fillings, served with small but interesting salad or crisps. Add drink of choice, coffee, tea, cold drink, all for £6. Only outside and only few tables, but thoroughly recommended.

Fantastic simple yet tasty food. Homemade and delicious. Great location, great prices and great service. We visit Plymouth fairly often and first visited this cafe in summer 2019. We were very impressed with the service and food we received then so now visit every time we come to Plymouth. Never disappointed. Highly recommended!

My daughter and I stopped for a light lunch and we couldn’t have been more impressed. The staff were really friendly and the food was presented beautifully and tasted great. Added to this, they’re in a fabulous, waterside location. Thank you. We will be back soon!

There are two adjacent units at the southern end of Commercial Wharf. They are cafes owned by the same guy. The first was Bertie’s which is predominantly ice cream, well served and good value from a wide selection. It has its own TripAdvisor listing. Next door is the sister business Gertie’s which is an easy going but well organised and useful cafe serving all that you could hope for if you need a late breakfast, any kind of lunch or snacks for the rest of the afternoon. Both places are serviced from old storage spaces built to serve the quay, most recently fishing, and watersports, but now many are catering. Originally, this area was occupied by a naval victualling set up and when RWY was built this area became an emigration complex designed to send less well off Brits to India, South Africa and Australasia while Liverpool etc was dispatching mostly Irish people to the USA. The view across the Cattewater and up the estuary as well as the QAB marina and the mixed traffic in and out of the Sutton Harbour lock creates a pleasant distraction and way to pass the time. We didn’t notice any booze. We have rarely encountered daytime drunks around here during daytimes. Either cafe is worth a visit.

Personally I love their cheese and onion pasties, probably one of the best I have ever tasted, I also would like to say that their cakes are delicious- would really recommend a visit.
