Do not waste your money here! Go to Gill's Chippy on the High Road...should be ashamed charging a fortune and the food AND service is shocking. I'll be calling health inspectors to see how often you are changing your oil etc!! Look at the state of this food, absolutely soaking with oil, the "large" fish (very small and had a funny smell) went straight into the bin after one mouthful! The chips were fried at least 3-4 times, some dark, some light (zoom in) all that greasy, that they soaked through the bottom of the cardboard and paper liner??!..Bad aftertaste of the fish and the chips, like stale, old oil...terrible!!

Worst chip shop tea ever had last night. Portion sizes incredibly small. Chips dreadful, fish cake should be called a potato cake, large cod??? Really??? and after my kids excitement of them now doing kebabs.... don't bother... the portion you got for £9/ea... smallest kebab ever, forgot the salad too and barely any sauce, all dry and tasteless. Absolute waste of money. Very disappointed, expensive treat for tea and hungry family.

Don't buy the kebabs. Pathetic portion sizes. Bought a Lamb doner in pita, it was about 4-5 bites worth. Also bought a doner/chicken mix with chips and they bulked it all out with chips and put a VERY small amount of meat on top. Total came to £18.90. Complete rip off for a pathetic amount of food. I won't be going back

Esperaba pescado caliente sabroso y patatas fritas, recibió comida tibia seca y poco atractiva. Las salchichas también estaban frías. Tres comidas fueron muy decepcionantes y no vale la pena el dinero. Fue una noche tranquila también, sin excusa y solía ser mucho mejor.

Just eaten delicious fish n chips .... white flaky fresh tasting cod and good standard of chip and nice mushy peas. The best fish n chips in this area by a long way

Sitting out side George’s tradition chip shop right now Walked in and was left standing for ages while the young girl who was serving was flicking me that had fallen off the frame into the serving pan next to it. She was doing it for ages and I’m sure she could’ve gone back to doing that instead of leaving me waiting for ages. She walked over half hearted With no eye contact and said in a couldn’t care less voice what do you want? I gave her And asked if she could put it in a box rather than a bag and she huffed at me Her face looked so miserable I know we can all have problems, but oh my goodness She was so rude and miserable Young blondish light brown long hair parted down the middle tied back and needs to learn to smile George manager if you are reading this You need to tell your staff not to have attitude at the Customer

Just got back home. Chips were dried up like they were from yesterday and warmed up. It looks like from previous reviews that this is the norm. Will carry on with long Eaton George's in future.

First visit to a Georges in over 10 years and to be honest I expected better. Chips were quite greasy and undercooked could have done ith another 5 minutes in the fryer, and the gravy was way to runny for a chippy. It was edible but probably wouldn't go again.

Always a pleasure to go to George's chippy chips are great the batter on the the fish is the best Served very quickly and no hassle 👌

Worst chips I've ever had, hardly any potatoes in most of them, looks like they have been there all afternoon. I usually come most Mondays, not anymore £10.10 for sausage chips curry and a can?

Was a great chippy once, seating as gone since the so called covid and as not been replace. The food what can I say chips don't taste fresh like they did before! greasy and also alot of bad bits what should of been thrown in the bin. Best chips I had recently in Nottingham was wollaton cod scollops they was lovely! I can't see me coming back as its far out my way just to be disappointed. 👎👎👎

Usually we go to the LE shop but decided to visit the one closer to home. What a mistake! Ordered a LARGE cod and chips. Over £11! And, the fish was dripping greasy, so the batter was soggy and flat. The chip portion was far smaller than a small chip. Asked for salt and vinegar, then poured on the salt over the fish to the point of rendering it inedible. Binned the lot. Honestly, do not go here, we never will again... make the drive down to Long Eaton and get the good stuff. You're welcome. These guys working there should be ashamed to rip people off like that.

They stopped doing gluten free pineapple fritters with no warning even though we got that every single time! Absolutely outrageous. >:(

A local George's takeaway is always useful to have. Good quality F&C but more expensive than other F&C shops in the area - but you can usually get a meal deal which is a bit cheaper. F&C is not a cheap meal anymore and more of a treat than a cheap alternative. Staff are always friendly and attentive.

Bought fish and chips and peas today 24th July 24, and they was awful chips with soggy and the fish batter was also soggy used to be a very good fish and chip shop ,but gone right downhill and won’t be going again.

Had fish and chips which were cold and the mushy peas were really salty...not pleasant and won't be going back for a while

Acabo de probar un kebab de cordero, que es nuevo en el menú. ¡Fue uno de los Kebabs más sabrosos que he probado! Bien presentado, ensalada fresca y carne, una porción perfecta de todos los ingredientes en un pan de pita. Definitivamente volveré por otro en el futuro.

Battered sausage and chips in the car . Spot on

Third time in a row that I've ordered large fish, chips and mushy peas. Third time in a row received chips that was small portion at most and tasted dry and full of small bits that you couldn't bite on. Fish was ok. Overall a waste of money and not be returning again. Should have learnt my lesson from the first lot I had. Someone needs to step in and take charge of what they are giving customers as they've got too many similar bad reviews and losing custom.

Fish tasted terrible. 3rd time now. Not quality. Cheep ingredients. Yet the long eaton one id 10 times better? Someone needs to get a grip of this one

Food delicious freshly cooked would recommend

Unfortunately, we wont be using Georges any longer. I have noticed the decline over the last year and tonight was the last straw. I ordered a large cod and chips which was a small portion at best. Not acceptable when paying an extortionate amount for sub standard food. Curry sauce was watery and the chips tasted like they had been sat in the fryer all day. We wont be using Georges any longer which is a shame considering i have been going here since it opened. Once upon a time it was excellent but unfortunately its now expensive, sub standard in quality and pathetic in portion size. Ill be using Andys in Stapleford going forward.

Disappointed ordered steak pie which was not ready so they microwaved it which to be fair I agreed with but it was a mistake the pie crust was not crispy , the meat filling was very tough. I ordered 2 pies 1 large chips small peas and large gravy which more or less came to the same price as the cornmill next door so should have just eaten in there, staff lovely though.

Used to be great this place but the prices are almost double the nearest other chippy and the quality and portion size has gone downhill to the point where they are no longer enjoyable. 85p for ketchup was the final straw even of it did come in a fancy pot I found that so unbelievable I had to ask the lady on the till to repeat it 3 times. Will not be back which is a shame because its so close to where I live.

Gone down hill so much, it used to be brilliant. Last time I went burnt refried chips and a smaller portion than usual. Service has also gone down hill.

We visit here weekly on a Sunday and the food is always fantastic. The staff are lovely.

Time and time again this place disappoints the food is never up to the standard from other George's. The service is definitely the worse even when the place is packed out they seem to take way to long. This time I was one of the 1st people in there and the food still didn't seem fresh.

Particularly scabby chips tonight. The quality of this place is going rapidly downhill. It used to be great but tonight’s carbonised offering was inedible. Burnt beyond recognition.

Good food at a good price usually except the last batch of chips had too many burnt ends. Staff a bit unfriendly though and seemed pretty down on my last visit. Only 1 other person in there and not even a "hello" Still, I will be back as the food is tasty.

After a disappointing visit in May I decided to give this establishment another chance. As I was on my own I ordered via Deliveroo. The food arrived quickly and was lovely and hot a complete contrast to the last time I visited. The cod was well cooked and the chips excellent only gripe is you can’t order peas and curry sauce on the Deliveroo app.

Foods hit and miss. Sometime your chips are rock hard and tiny or the huge and undercooked, the sausages are hit and miss, if you go in any time after 6.30 they move everything off the grids onto foil so from then everything starts to continue to cook and BURN! If you are lucky enough to get there in time don't expect to get what you want as on numerous occasions we've gone in at 7 when they close at 9 and they have nothing left and don't offer to put anything in. Most of the time at least one member of my family leave without dinner because of the stated reasons above!

As a treat, as not feeling well, decided on fish and chips for family. Was sorely disappointed though. Fish and chips were only luke warm. Batter was heavy and not at all crispy. Disappointing for the price paid.

This is my favourite chippy. Highly recommended and popular in the local community.

We have been several times over the last 2 years since moving locally and have mostly enjoyed our food. However we have just been at 6pm Thursday and the chips were terrible, really putting us off. They had clearly been refired, overcooked, stuck in a big clump and Luke warm. 3 young staff very efficient and genuinely friendly. Service is always good. Just a shame tonight, would really recommend ensuring they are fresh

Best fish and chips around except for the Cod's Scallops. Haddock is always fresh and very tasty with good crispy batter. The chips are almost always crispy and lovely . I have occasionally gotten small portions but it's been better recently. Best fish in chips in Chilwell/Beeston area. Recommended.

Ordered fish chips n mushy peas for four Ran out of chips so meal left for 7 mins n getting cold. What few chips there were had to be shared so only a handful of cold chips that seemed like they were warmed up scraps from dinner. Fish was minute n dried up inside. Poor timing and not enough staff. Waste of £35

Tasty fish and chips, friendly staff, can be a bit noisy at times.

Drove from London hungry and tired, got cod and chips. The Cod was so dry and the chips were brown, old and hard. In fact the whole experience has put me off fish and chip, thank you George's!

Not lived in Nottingham for a long time on visit back we went to George’s Chilwell 13/09/23 19.30 hr the 2 lads serving where fantastic polite helpful told us about offers etc a credit to George’s The food fantastic .chip shop clean well lit Well done guys Ps just need to bring down a Yorkshire fish cake recipe you will have them queuing to long Eaton

We always call in on a Sunday for our regular cod chips and mushy peas. Service is always excellent from the young man at the tills and the food is always top quality. We wouldnt go anywhere else. Please could we have cheese fritters added to the menu, I noticed you've added cheese, but I want cheese fritters lol. (Posted earlier but doesn't appear to have gone through) apologies of a duplicate post.

I never liked mushy peas but George's makes it the best ! The food is always piping hot, so its worth the wait. The fish is good (like haddock the most), amazing gravy and curry sauce! Staff quite friendy, shop seems clean. The number of customers prove they're good. I'll keep going back for their haddock with salt and vinegar.

Food was greasy and staff didn't get my order corrcy originally. I ended up asking for more of what I thought I ordered. I am sorry to give this review as been going here for years.

Portion size here is smaller then other George's chippies.

Really disappointed with the food tonight. Paid nearly £22 for large haddock chips and peas twice to take away. The fish was so thin that you could not separate it from the batter and incredibly chewy and the chips were all thin end bits. Absolutely gutted

Honestly? Rude and overpriced. Open until 10pm, went in at 945pm as the only customer. Nobody said hello, the manager behind the counter saw me coming, didn't speak to me at all, and instead gruffly the told the young lad at the till "No more frying, only what we've got." That turned out to be two unbattered sausages totalling £4.70. Which I bought, fed to the dog and the dog boffed them up about 30 minutes later. Do your own math, but at literally a fiver for two unbattered sausages I won't be coming back.

Went to Chilwell shop on 21st of May. Sunday afternoon about 3 o'clock. The chips were burnt and hard couldn't eat them The fish goujons had no fish in them just batter. Absoslutely disgusting waste of money will never go there again.

As pensioners given the current price of £20:40 for 2 small cod deals with a large curry sauce this is now a treat. After waiting what seemed an age from ordering to actually getting our meal approximately 25 minutes imagine our disappointment when we opened the chips and they were just what I’d describe as scrag ends. Our disappointment didn’t finish there as I removed the lid off the mushy peas I was faced with a green liquid almost devoid of any peas. Last June I got home with my meal to find they hadn’t put my chips in the bag. The staff are young and clearly lack any professionalism ( why else would they fill a pot with green juice or serve sub standard chips) but to reiterate given the price the customer should get consistent good food and service but sadly that’s not the case here. We won’t return until I read a succession of good reviews.

This chip shop as gone down hill chips was horrible

The chips and mushy peas were gorgeous! Piping hot new batch. The fish was disappointing. The batter was soggy and the fish not very tasty. I also thought it was pricy, small fish, small chips and small peas, £8.60!! After ordering I looked at the menu and realised I could have got a lot better deals. I didn’t want to say anything though as they were really busy.

Best fish & chips around.....good portion size, the fish is so tasty. However, on my recent visit the chip cob was very soggy and fell apart as I was eating it.

Wrong order when I went to pick up

Not as good as it used to be and wooo the price! Also the options are weird. It’s an Extra £1 for large chips and to make your peas bigger but it’s £2.50 for a single large pot of peas!

Worse chippies ever had. Waited ages and what was finally ready was a greasy mess - some were undercooked while others were burnt, and they tasted like they hadn't changed the oil in the fryer for ages. On top of that all, there was no salt & vinigar (I even asked and they said they put some on :s). If you want chips that will make you nauseous then I recommend.

Just been in George's Chiwell. Large fish and chips small fish and chips two kids meals, gravey and curry sauce £35! I know things have gone up. The food was okay at best. The chip's weren't very warm and looked like they had been there for a while. The fish was nice as it had been freshly cooked. The shop was empty. The lady in the shop had to write the prices on the receipt as it wasn't itemised.

The girls aways have a smile on there faces, and very polite...

the peas are not mushy and you'll be lucky to find any peas...the curry is not like a sauce more like flavoured water !!!

Hi I went to the chilwell store staff was blunt got home with there large cod chips pea was a joke hand full of chips fish was not large at all my daughter had the junior meal same problem hand full of chips so for £16.40 should of gone to the local chippy were you get value and manors will not return

Hello we have just been to George's West Bridgford and along with our order we ordered a large mushy peas, when we got to where we ate them the peas was just a tub of green water with about 3 peas in........Comments please.

" Georges best bites " I visited West Point chilwell yesterday and ordered 3 fish bite and chips from the lunchtime menu. We ate them in the car, my granddaughter commented " nanny why has my fish bite go no fish in it "... I said let's ask george why 2 out of the 3 meals were the same. Are you that strapped for cash george. Post covid we're all struggling now !!!! WELL DONE GEORGE !!!

Chips either over cooked your under cooked still crunchy in the middle and pale. Fish cake over cooked even the dog refused. mushy pea fritters was nice. No diet large bottle again was given full sugar that was out of date. gone down hill alot such a shame as used to be lovely

Oh Dear, wow this was not good, had the small cod meal deal, the nastiest smallest driest piece of cod that was over cooked and tough yes tough (that can only happen if it’s frozen fish right) the mushy peas tasted like cleaning fluid of some sort was added. The only positive was that the staff were friendly and the place looked really clean.

The worst scabby chips I've ever seen, had shoots sprouting from them using old potatoes, black parts of bad potatoes in amongst the chips too. Avoid! I went & returned the chips & got a refund!

As I was in my own last week I decided to treat myself to a fish supper. The fish was delicious but the server didn’t put any chips in the box, disappointing as the peas & curry sauce was also very good. So I’ve got to mark down, sorry.

Disappointing service from the staff. Disrespectful and rude when a complaint was made. ‘Whatever’! Was what I heard as I left. Decent food from George’s and I travel miles to get there but there is a real disappointment with how I was treated tonight. I’d say it is normally brusque but acceptable rather than friendly. But tonight they overstepped the mark. I doubt very much I will go back.

Bought A Small fish, chips & curry meal for £7.65ish and was absolutely disgusted by the pathetic portion size. Yes I wanted a small fish but I wasn’t expecting a child size portion. Went on Saturday my fish was over cooked and chips were hard it was all luke warm very disappointed

Rung up to place an order, to be collected half an hour later. Was told that I had to use the on line app. The 30 second verbal order of 1 large +1 small Cod, 1 large haddock, 1 medium chips and 1 goujons and chips NO salt and pepper, drinks or extras. Suddenly became a tiresome, time consuming process of trying to get the system to understand the above order. Gave up in the end. Went to the shop and ordered the conventional way. Didn't have to wait too long. Fish and chips were excellent.

Very disappointed with our Friday night takeaway. Soggy chips, soggy batter on both sausage and fishcakes which was also tasteless. Will not be coming back which is disappointing as always loved George's!!

Bitterly disappointed.. Hadn't been for a while but always loved fresh fish and chips.. However I picked up my meal and by the time I got home.. 4 mins in the car. my food was so soggy.. the fish was just awful. The batter was so flaccid.. was really looking forward to it after being poorly for a while.. I honestly think the change of packaging is a major cause..
