Lunch menu is great value, hit and miss with the chips and portions sizes though

Gone down hill so much, it used to be brilliant. Last time I went burnt refried chips and a smaller portion than usual. Service has also gone down hill.

We visit here weekly on a Sunday and the food is always fantastic. The staff are lovely.

Time and time again this place disappoints the food is never up to the standard from other George's. The service is definitely the worse even when the place is packed out they seem to take way to long. This time I was one of the 1st people in there and the food still didn't seem fresh.

Particularly scabby chips tonight. The quality of this place is going rapidly downhill. It used to be great but tonight’s carbonised offering was inedible. Burnt beyond recognition.

Good food at a good price usually except the last batch of chips had too many burnt ends. Staff a bit unfriendly though and seemed pretty down on my last visit. Only 1 other person in there and not even a "hello" Still, I will be back as the food is tasty.

After a disappointing visit in May I decided to give this establishment another chance. As I was on my own I ordered via Deliveroo. The food arrived quickly and was lovely and hot a complete contrast to the last time I visited. The cod was well cooked and the chips excellent only gripe is you can’t order peas and curry sauce on the Deliveroo app.

Foods hit and miss. Sometime your chips are rock hard and tiny or the huge and undercooked, the sausages are hit and miss, if you go in any time after 6.30 they move everything off the grids onto foil so from then everything starts to continue to cook and BURN! If you are lucky enough to get there in time don't expect to get what you want as on numerous occasions we've gone in at 7 when they close at 9 and they have nothing left and don't offer to put anything in. Most of the time at least one member of my family leave without dinner because of the stated reasons above!

As a treat, as not feeling well, decided on fish and chips for family. Was sorely disappointed though. Fish and chips were only luke warm. Batter was heavy and not at all crispy. Disappointing for the price paid.

This is my favourite chippy. Highly recommended and popular in the local community.

We have been several times over the last 2 years since moving locally and have mostly enjoyed our food. However we have just been at 6pm Thursday and the chips were terrible, really putting us off. They had clearly been refired, overcooked, stuck in a big clump and Luke warm. 3 young staff very efficient and genuinely friendly. Service is always good. Just a shame tonight, would really recommend ensuring they are fresh

Best fish and chips around except for the Cod's Scallops. Haddock is always fresh and very tasty with good crispy batter. The chips are almost always crispy and lovely . I have occasionally gotten small portions but it's been better recently. Best fish in chips in Chilwell/Beeston area. Recommended.

Ordered fish chips n mushy peas for four Ran out of chips so meal left for 7 mins n getting cold. What few chips there were had to be shared so only a handful of cold chips that seemed like they were warmed up scraps from dinner. Fish was minute n dried up inside. Poor timing and not enough staff. Waste of £35

Tasty fish and chips, friendly staff, can be a bit noisy at times.

Drove from London hungry and tired, got cod and chips. The Cod was so dry and the chips were brown, old and hard. In fact the whole experience has put me off fish and chip, thank you George's!

Chips are nice but to many bits instead of actual chips, very unorganised service in the shop Staff are polite

Not lived in Nottingham for a long time on visit back we went to George’s Chilwell 13/09/23 19.30 hr the 2 lads serving where fantastic polite helpful told us about offers etc a credit to George’s The food fantastic .chip shop clean well lit Well done guys Ps just need to bring down a Yorkshire fish cake recipe you will have them queuing to long Eaton

We always call in on a Sunday for our regular cod chips and mushy peas. Service is always excellent from the young man at the tills and the food is always top quality. We wouldnt go anywhere else. Please could we have cheese fritters added to the menu, I noticed you've added cheese, but I want cheese fritters lol. (Posted earlier but doesn't appear to have gone through) apologies of a duplicate post.

I never liked mushy peas but George's makes it the best ! The food is always piping hot, so its worth the wait. The fish is good (like haddock the most), amazing gravy and curry sauce! Staff quite friendy, shop seems clean. The number of customers prove they're good. I'll keep going back for their haddock with salt and vinegar.

Friendly staff good food great service

What a joke. Came to this one on the way home instead of our usual visit to long Eaton. So far been waiting 25 mins may aswell of just cooked at home Won’t be using this branch again

Food was greasy and staff didn't get my order corrcy originally. I ended up asking for more of what I thought I ordered. I am sorry to give this review as been going here for years.

Portion size here is smaller then other George's chippies.

Fantastic quality fish and chips.

Really disappointed with the food tonight. Paid nearly £22 for large haddock chips and peas twice to take away. The fish was so thin that you could not separate it from the batter and incredibly chewy and the chips were all thin end bits. Absolutely gutted

Honestly? Rude and overpriced. Open until 10pm, went in at 945pm as the only customer. Nobody said hello, the manager behind the counter saw me coming, didn't speak to me at all, and instead gruffly the told the young lad at the till "No more frying, only what we've got." That turned out to be two unbattered sausages totalling £4.70. Which I bought, fed to the dog and the dog boffed them up about 30 minutes later. Do your own math, but at literally a fiver for two unbattered sausages I won't be coming back.

Went to Chilwell shop on 21st of May. Sunday afternoon about 3 o'clock. The chips were burnt and hard couldn't eat them The fish goujons had no fish in them just batter. Absoslutely disgusting waste of money will never go there again.

As pensioners given the current price of £20:40 for 2 small cod deals with a large curry sauce this is now a treat. After waiting what seemed an age from ordering to actually getting our meal approximately 25 minutes imagine our disappointment when we opened the chips and they were just what I’d describe as scrag ends. Our disappointment didn’t finish there as I removed the lid off the mushy peas I was faced with a green liquid almost devoid of any peas. Last June I got home with my meal to find they hadn’t put my chips in the bag. The staff are young and clearly lack any professionalism ( why else would they fill a pot with green juice or serve sub standard chips) but to reiterate given the price the customer should get consistent good food and service but sadly that’s not the case here. We won’t return until I read a succession of good reviews.

This chip shop as gone down hill chips was horrible

The chips and mushy peas were gorgeous! Piping hot new batch. The fish was disappointing. The batter was soggy and the fish not very tasty. I also thought it was pricy, small fish, small chips and small peas, £8.60!! After ordering I looked at the menu and realised I could have got a lot better deals. I didn’t want to say anything though as they were really busy.

Best fish & chips around.....good portion size, the fish is so tasty. However, on my recent visit the chip cob was very soggy and fell apart as I was eating it.

Wrong order when I went to pick up

Not as good as it used to be and wooo the price! Also the options are weird. It’s an Extra £1 for large chips and to make your peas bigger but it’s £2.50 for a single large pot of peas!

Worse chippies ever had. Waited ages and what was finally ready was a greasy mess - some were undercooked while others were burnt, and they tasted like they hadn't changed the oil in the fryer for ages. On top of that all, there was no salt & vinigar (I even asked and they said they put some on :s). If you want chips that will make you nauseous then I recommend.

I've eaten here tens of times and have never had a bad meal or experience.

Just been in George's Chiwell. Large fish and chips small fish and chips two kids meals, gravey and curry sauce £35! I know things have gone up. The food was okay at best. The chip's weren't very warm and looked like they had been there for a while. The fish was nice as it had been freshly cooked. The shop was empty. The lady in the shop had to write the prices on the receipt as it wasn't itemised.

The girls aways have a smile on there faces, and very polite...

the peas are not mushy and you'll be lucky to find any peas...the curry is not like a sauce more like flavoured water !!!

Hi I went to the chilwell store staff was blunt got home with there large cod chips pea was a joke hand full of chips fish was not large at all my daughter had the junior meal same problem hand full of chips so for £16.40 should of gone to the local chippy were you get value and manors will not return

There's a lot to offer on the menu and it's definitely one of the best chippys we've been to.

Hello we have just been to George's West Bridgford and along with our order we ordered a large mushy peas, when we got to where we ate them the peas was just a tub of green water with about 3 peas in........Comments please.

" Georges best bites " I visited West Point chilwell yesterday and ordered 3 fish bite and chips from the lunchtime menu. We ate them in the car, my granddaughter commented " nanny why has my fish bite go no fish in it "... I said let's ask george why 2 out of the 3 meals were the same. Are you that strapped for cash george. Post covid we're all struggling now !!!! WELL DONE GEORGE !!!

Chips either over cooked your under cooked still crunchy in the middle and pale. Fish cake over cooked even the dog refused. mushy pea fritters was nice. No diet large bottle again was given full sugar that was out of date. gone down hill alot such a shame as used to be lovely

Oh Dear, wow this was not good, had the small cod meal deal, the nastiest smallest driest piece of cod that was over cooked and tough yes tough (that can only happen if it’s frozen fish right) the mushy peas tasted like cleaning fluid of some sort was added. The only positive was that the staff were friendly and the place looked really clean.

The worst scabby chips I've ever seen, had shoots sprouting from them using old potatoes, black parts of bad potatoes in amongst the chips too. Avoid! I went & returned the chips & got a refund!

As I was in my own last week I decided to treat myself to a fish supper. The fish was delicious but the server didn’t put any chips in the box, disappointing as the peas & curry sauce was also very good. So I’ve got to mark down, sorry.

Disappointing service from the staff. Disrespectful and rude when a complaint was made. ‘Whatever’! Was what I heard as I left. Decent food from George’s and I travel miles to get there but there is a real disappointment with how I was treated tonight. I’d say it is normally brusque but acceptable rather than friendly. But tonight they overstepped the mark. I doubt very much I will go back.

Bought A Small fish, chips & curry meal for £7.65ish and was absolutely disgusted by the pathetic portion size. Yes I wanted a small fish but I wasn’t expecting a child size portion. Went on Saturday my fish was over cooked and chips were hard it was all luke warm very disappointed

Rung up to place an order, to be collected half an hour later. Was told that I had to use the on line app. The 30 second verbal order of 1 large +1 small Cod, 1 large haddock, 1 medium chips and 1 goujons and chips NO salt and pepper, drinks or extras. Suddenly became a tiresome, time consuming process of trying to get the system to understand the above order. Gave up in the end. Went to the shop and ordered the conventional way. Didn't have to wait too long. Fish and chips were excellent.

Excellent fish and chips. They take that bit of extra time to cook chips to golden brown with crispy fresh batter on a good piece of fish. Thank you 5*

Very disappointed with our Friday night takeaway. Soggy chips, soggy batter on both sausage and fishcakes which was also tasteless. Will not be coming back which is disappointing as always loved George's!!

Bitterly disappointed.. Hadn't been for a while but always loved fresh fish and chips.. However I picked up my meal and by the time I got home.. 4 mins in the car. my food was so soggy.. the fish was just awful. The batter was so flaccid.. was really looking forward to it after being poorly for a while.. I honestly think the change of packaging is a major cause..

The best fish and chips for miles

We use here and long eaton and I have to say we will never be having from here again..already left a review for long eaton....the chips were dreadful dry like batter bits fish way too small and thin and we asked for large!!!! Sorry georges we will most definitely nit be visiting again !!!! Get your act together and also get better staff!!!!!

Generally decent fish & chips, however the last few times I have been the portions are getting smaller and smaller. The price is premium and with the portions now getting ridiculously small I am questioning if it's value for money. May start trying other local chip shops.

Had some lovely food but the last couple of times my online order has been incorrect. Last time they replaced the whole order which was fantastic

Ordered a large order to collect at a set time. Arrived at the set time to pick up my food, however the order had not even started being prepared. I am wondering what the point is in click and collect at set times if the food isn't ready to collect at that time but instead requires waiting a long time for order to be made. Very disappointed.

Went today was disappointed that the cheap lunch time meals were gone ordered a few things including a chip butty couldn’t believe it when I was about 10 chips in a small roll ,I’ve had more before on the 99p chip butty but for £1-50 I’d have expected more very disappointing when return

Brought lunch for the family I must say it's the worst l have ever brought l childrens lunch no toy chips full of bits not very fluffy were was the potato peas not good and sausages not good This is the last time I will be going to Georges

good sitting place for people who want to know this place bridgeway fish bar rectory fish bar and king cod best places to get your fish and chips from any of of you live near any of these highly recommended i tried king cod because was around that end a few years back after a football tournament and i chose to go in their and the fish was quiet massive if you want large and this place spacious and more standing room sitting space to not much but its good but the fish and chips need to be microwaved because it gets cold to quickly from here sorry for the negative need to change your making style just been here once not a fan the other three i mention i highly recommended 🙌🏼

This place has gone downhill, the curry sauce was so diluted that some tap water has more taste. The food and staff use to be top quality, I'm so sad things have changed!

Went along to George at chilwell for a change instead of going to king cod Beeston, and wished I hadn't they have certainly let the standards slip from when I remember it to be, The So called large cod was obviously been sitting for quite a while, the crispness was non existent and same for the chips, plus cold as well, we had to put everything in the microwave when we got back, Hence we won't be returning

We have been coming here regularly due to their normally excellent quality. However, since the coronavirus pandemic, they have gone downhill in quality and up in price. The fish is a “hit or miss” gamble. Sometimes ok, sometimes awful. Flat end bits of a fillet, brown meat, chewy! Same with the recent chips. Lots of black patches on them! It’s a shame because the staff are always helpful and efficient. Might have to start trying elsewhere?

Just had fish n chips and curry sauce. Staying in village hotel so just across the road. Nice shop, good friendly quick service & food was perfect. Definitely come/go again.

Large portion of chips is no bigger than a handful. 4th time they have managed to get a small order wrong. 3meals upgraded to large. Yet received small chips. Sausage missing. Peas missing.

Ordered on Sunday lunchtime, Cod and Chips with Curry sauce. Food was fairly quick and hot. Fish was well cooked but the batter was soggy and lacked any flavour to speak of apart from the oil it was cooked in. Chips were crisped well and coloured nicely but again lacked flavour even with salt and vinegar which was sparingly applied in store. Curry was Luke warm and lumpy. For nearly £8 I was not impressed, merely average chip shop food and basic service.

It's OK, if you need a greasy fix

They advertise Gluten Free on a Sunday. We have a 6 year coeliac in our house and we called during the week to check that they are still serving GF food on a sunday during lockdown. They said yes and reassured us of their strict controls. Ordered on their app on Sunday and specifically ordered the GF options and then called afterwards to check everything would be ok. My daughter has been violently Ill now for the last 2 hours and having called the restaurant they confirmed they'd made a mistake and not served the GF option. They then claimed they do have strict measures to stop these kind of things happening but clearly not. They can't be trusted and I shall be contacting the local food standards agency to report a serious breach of care and duty in relation to allergy attention. How a restaurant can advertise a GF menu and be so careless is beyond me. The level of insult I felt when the shift manager offered a refund is something I hope never to experience again. Like I said, if you are a coeliac or GF intolerant, please stay well away from this place.

Mi esposa y mi hija de 36 años estaban muy entusiasmadas con la idea de conseguir unas patatas fritas de George's y después de una agradable caminata hicimos pedidos. El mío era el pequeño pescado y patatas fritas, mi esposa y su hija tenían las picaduras de pescado, guisantes y patatas fritas. No nos tomó mucho tiempo esperar y luego caminamos hasta el parque, que estaba literalmente a 2 minutos. Abrí la mía y fui recibido por pescado y patatas fritas empapado.He comido en George's en Ripley Derbyshire y en el de Nottingham. Está en el centro y disfrutó de ambas comidas, pero esta versión para llevar fue un tiro al instante. La masa del pescado debe estar crujiente, las papas fritas deben estar crujientes. Esto es en lo que se especializan, así que realmente no sé cómo se equivocaron tanto. Muy decepcionado. Nunca volvería. El personal estaba bien y sé que tienen que operar un poco diferente ahora, pero la parte principal es un pescado y patatas fritas para llevar, pero están sirviendo papilla empapada. Aprendí a cocinar pescado y patatas fritas en mi primer año de la facultad de restauración, así que me resulta difícil entender cómo lo hicieron tan miserablemente. Especialmente cuando eso es todo lo que haces.

Placed an order online only to find that when I went to collect they had cancelled the order. Wouldn’t refund there and then so will apparently have to wait 3-4 days for it to hit my account. Terrible customer service.
