Visited this restaurant at very short notice and they managed to fit us in even though they were busy. The service is well above that if what I expected and the food is top quality, the atmosphere is great and we definitely be returning. Well done.

George's is a firm family favourite, great fish, sensible portions of chips. However.... I have now lost count of the times the staff have forgotten part of my order and we have got home to find a missing batters sausage, mushy peas or something else. It has become a rather annoying running joke. Check your order before you leave the shop!

Booked for 2 people at 1pm, table was ready when we arrived. Food delicious, mushy peas were gorgeous, batter on fish light, chips nice and crispy. Will be back. Table by doors very cold, as people waiting were propping the doors open... we had to sit in our coats whilst we ate!

Excellent choice for informal lunch in city centre with family . Lots of attention to retro detail and we loved the beach hut booths upstairs. Friendly and attentive service without being too fussy. Quirky but varied menu catered for all ages . Desserts nice but for the sweet toothed and candy flosstastic !

Been here a few times and it's been great. Ordered the cod and chips and mushy peas. Couldn't fault the food - a little pricy for what it is but then again it's city centre location. Very good decor inside and the beach huts on the upper floor look great. Would return.

Lovely setting to sit and eat what is essentially traditional fish and chips. No complaints about the food but no wow factor. Untrained staff were not very attentive and also got orders wrong on more than one occasion. Quality of ingredients was great but not executed to its potential. Very expensive for whats on offer. Much better quality for considerably less in the local area.

Have always been a huge fan of George's and been coming to this shop for the last three yearsThe last couple of times I have been here the food has been really off , both times grey , not crispy fish, cold chips and a strange taste of bleach in the mushy peas. Thought it was a one off but happened again today. They will not be getting another chance!! The shop also had dirty counter, cracked floor tiles, black bin liners of rubbish along rear of shop, felt and looked dirty. Much better places locally

Bless her it was her 2nd or 3rd shift and she was really nervous but that didn't put us off as me and my friend are both waiters/waitresses and know how nerve racking it can be in a new job especially in the hospitality trade. Rebecca was smiley, professional and charming and really did make our night extra special. Truly from both of us good luck with everything you're going to be amazing!

3 of us visited Georges Fish restaurant on 30th June, it was our first visit. It has a great atmosphere and brought back memories of the old fish and chip shops of my youth. We all had the traditional cod and chips with mushy peas. Without some of the best fish and chips I have ever had, and I love F&C! The staff were very friendly and welcomimg. The menu is extensive and not just fish and chips. Give yourself a treat and visit Georges brilliant place!

I booked through Georges as we had a double birthday in the family. When I called up I mentioned this too. We arrived and it was busy - great atmosphere and decor. I had asked to be sat upstairs and this was accommodated for us, even though they were busy it is a nice feeling to be checked on while you are waiting to be seated.Cannot fault the food, between us we had the traditional fish and chips, swordfish and grilled fish. The food was full of flavour and fresh. Must must recommend the stilton chips! The staff were friendly and attentive (the waitresses mentioned they were new and they provided excellent service). At the end of the meal we were brought a sweet platter as it was a birthday. This was a lovely touch and very much appreciated! Fab food, great environment, friendly staff and the prices are reasonable too - highly recommend and will be back soon myself!

Went there for a belated birthday lunch. My husband had the surf and turf, I had the scampi and chips and my 4 year old daughter had chicken goujons and chips. The food was very good and the service was excellent. I really enjoyed looking around at all the decoration as there was something new to see each time I looked around. Really enjoyed our visit today and will defiantly be returning.

Called in with my mum a few weeks ago & we loved it. She said its the best Fish n chips she's ever had (& we live in Skegness!) I am vegetarian and they even catered for me & i was more than happy with my mushroom and Halloumi burger it was fab! The lager was really nice its called A curious brew. Never heard of it but i really liked it. The decor was a feast for the eyes and i thought the menu (folded up vintage looking newspaper) was a nice touch as well as the condiments being in a tray mounted on the side of the table so they didn't crowd the surface. All in all a great visit. If i had to make one tiny criticism it would only be the price. It was almost £35 for the two of us to eat fish n chips including a drink but then its a city centre restaurant so the overheads must be massive. It was still worth the visit and we will go again. x

We went to George's Tradition in Queen Street, Nottingham. We were taken there by my grandaughter as she and her student friends go whenever they can afford it. The restaurant is on two floors with a seaside theme. It is quirky and fun. The staff are keen, friendly and very professional. The fish and chips are the best we've ever had, and we live by the sea!! We hope to go again before our grandaughter graduates.

Having scoured Trip Advisor for inspiration and knowing my husband is a connoisseur of the traditional English fare of Fish and Chips, this was an out the way choice for me but alas, sometimes you have to put the husband first and give him what he wants. Fish and chips isn't up there on the first choices for me for sure but my....so glad I did. The decor is impressive, red clay brick outside which is traditional of Nottingham given the local soil content. And the inside you have to see for yourself....stunning and very creatively put together. Beach huts, a traditional yet contemporary bar, glass, rustic and modern. Love it.The food is just incredible. Some clever menu design with something for everything but be warned...a lot of deep fried items which in my opinion isn't a bad thing. Platters of interesting items like squid in Old Bay seasoning, runny scotch eggs, goats cheese fritters and then the classics such as fish and chips, all done exceptionally well. The fish taco was sublime with sweet potato chips and a garlic aioli and the mushy peas just perfect. I loved every mouthful and the service was just brilliant also with a very attentive host. My partner had traditional fish and chips....loved it. Twice cooked chips were stunning. They have a gin bar!! I gush because even though I try not to be a hipster and this is a hipster thing through and through, I bloody love him. No gin this time given it was lunch time (although I did quaff a couple of glasses of Sauvignon) but if I was there in the evening, I would be tapping that lot up.I can't recommend enough for something usual or something classical....British food at its finest and it speaks for itself. Not something you can usually say about our native fare I say, tongue in cheek of course. Fabulous! Ps - no room for dessert but they do have candy floss on one of the desserts. I love this idea....fun should and can be fun. Next time I won't eat so much and will indulge....

Nothing special and over priced. I had the "dirty burger" was ok but not worth the price. Stilton chips where not good when they cooled down they went dry sticky gloopy tasteless. The beer was nice but should be when it's £5 a pint.

Not sure if this is relevant but tried this a week ago and I must say they must have been short staffed or something, took ages to get served, when we did the menu had items unavailable and when we paid with cash they seemed to be put out! Not the usual standards for George's I'm sure, but I would expect the same level of service as any day at anytime... Could put me off, may try their takeaway next time.

We stubbled across this restaurant by chance and oh boy are we glad we did .................Superb choice of starters which all 4 of us shared included scotch eggs, seafood popcorn which were particularly tasty. The main courses didn't disappoint, we eat in 5* restaurants from The Ritz, The Grand, New Bridge Usk to name a few and the taste of the food was certainly comparable. The ambience was lively in a pleasant way. In life you say save the best until last and believe me on this occasion it's true, leave room for a dessert they are amazing. I had rice pudding which sounds ordinary but cooked to perfection with a surprise candy floss side, my husband had rhubarb mousse and our other guests shared the sharing dessert - all were amazing. We would all highly recommend this restaurant and when we are back in Nottingham we shall return - well done chef

Batter was really crispy & fresh tasty fish the chips were couple fried & tasted great the tartare sauce & mushy peas were again the best we had ever had. Well worth the extra few quid. Service was fast & polite. Perfect supper.

very busy when we arrived, but fortunately we had booked a table online. Reserved tables are lovely little booths, nice and cosy. Nice selection on menus and kids meals come with a little bucket and spade to keep :) staff were friendly and helpful. Food took a while but worth the wait. Overall I'd say it's a very fancy take on traditional fish and chips.

Came for a family birthday. Great service, very natural. Great food. Small lunch portions very generous! Very good quality. Nice touch with suprise birthday board of ice cream, candles and candy floss (given free of charge!) really lovely. Only constructive point would be that we didn't like whatever was spread (thickly!) on the bread. Great meal.

Locale molto bello, rifinito e ben curato. Consigliato.

We thought that we would have a quick meal in this supposedly "Fish & Chips" venue. Our fish - Haddock + Scampi, was very good and the chips were OK. A nice cup of tea but no idea of what blend it might have been, unless I was totally distracted by the heavy soundtrack to this place. The music was totally inappropriate and I have a very strong feeling that George Harrison had been speeded up. Donovan got the up-dated beat added to "Jennifer Juniper". All played at a very high level, even for my ageing ears. A definite put-off. We would probably return, if the music was toned down to a level where we could have a reasonable conversation. Finally, cocktails in a fish restaurant, surely bizarre! Definitely not for me. I'll stick with the cup of tea. Could not see bread & butter on the menu, either. See my note on distraction.Service was spot-on! Well done.

This was our first visit to this recently opened Nottingham restaurant chain. We were not disappointed and will surely go again. As we were early we waited in the bar which was so full of atmosphere. The drinks were not cheap but neither were they outrageously expensive and we were out for a celebration anyway. We were a family of 5 (3 generations) and the menu catered splendidly for all. There was a young adults menu which was just right for a hungry 10 year old who would not have been satisfied with the smaller portioned menu for the real youngsters. The 3 year old was thrilled with the bucket in which the chips were served and proudly carried it out with him. The novelty of being able to do the puzzles that were given and then be able to make it into a paper hat was another ingenious way of keeping children happy whilst waiting for their meal. Now down to the nitty gritty of the food; well it was excellent! The fish was obviously the star of the show in a fish restaurant but it was beautifully presented as well as beautifully cooked. I suppose that the novelty puddings were not really for me but again they thrilled the children. What child doesn't love candy floss?!All in all a great place to eat whether it be for lunch (they did have lunch time smaller meals) or a evening out with friends.By the way we also got to eat in a beach hut; well cool!

My Dad loves 'proper' pubs and this excels. Having only just found this gem, myself/Dad have been twice in the last month and cannot rate it highly enough. The food is excellent (certainly beyond pub grub), the staff are welcoming and engaging and the atmosphere is homely and vibrant. I cannot recommend this place enough and it is always busy meaning others must feel the same way. Thanks to the staff, particularly Lorna and John. We'll be back soon

Booked for lunch for 2 and was surprised when entering a seemingly deserted place (no customers). Shown to the table of our choice. I ordered pulled pork terrine with onion relish and sourdough toast - absolutely delicious (might have preferred thinner slices of toast). For the main I ordered beer battered cod sandwich with fries and a portion of curry sauce. Fries were excellent, as was the cod sandwich (comprised of 2 cod pieces in batter with mayonnaise and a bed of minted peas all in a brioche bun). Too much to eat but excellent cooking.
