George's Great British Kitchen in Nottingham

Thank god it’s closed down! Was forced to attend a work social dinner there 3 weeks ago as a farewell meal for our offshore team who were working in the UK over the summer months. It was a terrible choice of venue - shockingly unhealthy menu options. There were 20 people in our group and every single person from overseas was disappointed and disgusted with the food they received. None of them finished even a single plated meal. It was an embarrassment that our management decided upon bidding them farewell with ‘saturated fat and high cholesterol on a plate’ as a symbol of Great British Food . The team were ‘our guests’ and even fed back individually “honestly, the food was horrible. Really really bad. No one liked it.”

Disappointed in the food.. not busy at all but food was next to warm rather than hot. Too hungry after a 9 hour shift at work so just ate and ran. Doubt I'd go back in as not worth the money.

Absolutely amazing, will definitely come back in the future. Visited George’s for lunch with my son on Saturday and we had a lovely time. The staff were friendly, cheerful and very attentive - constantly checking on us and making sure everything was as we need. They promptly took our order, which arrived at our table swiftly! We ordered the double cheeseburgers with chips - the burgers were massive and tasted amazing and the chips were crunchy on the outside and fluffy in the middle! Would definitely recommend this establishment to anyone!

George's GB Kitchen was such a nice experience as a first timer to Nottingham. It had a great selection of classic British foods available, like Fish and Chips, Hunters Chicken and Steak and Ale Pie as well as a range of British Beers and Spirits. They even did free scraps! It was quiet when we went in which was nice. The venue is airy and pleasant and the staff were so lovely and attentive throughout. The manager on shift even let us know how long the wait would be after a small mistake was made, which was so polite of them. The food was delicious, with absolutely huge portions for the price. It all tasted great, was piping hot and fresh, overall just all of it was amazing. We'd definitely go again and we'd recommend it to anyone after British Food in Nottingham City Centre :) (Pls note the photo taken is after I'd caved in my pie haha, it did not come out like that)

What a place ... food great 👍 atmosphere very relaxed but most of all the service was excellent our server caden could not do enough for us .. very knowledgeable and so polite

Good food. Service was alright. We were only checked on a few times during the meal. It was a slower part of the day, so it was a little frustrating that we did not get checked on more often. Overall, I would eat here again.

The service by Ruby was very good, and the food was great If you are visiting Nottingham, I recommend this restaurant for fish and chips

Over the years, we've frequented this restaurant and always appreciated the exceptional service from the staff. However, recent turnover seems to have affected the quality. Tonight's delivery via Deliveroo was disappointing - the food arrived stale, cold, and burnt, with missing items and smaller portions than usual, yet the prices remained unchanged. The pie tasted like electrical burning, and the reheated chips were far from fresh. The fish and chips arrived with no bread and butter, a regular portion of chips and an average piece of fish - with onion gravy (just why?). Spending £50 left us feeling robbed. Sadly, it seems the establishment no longer prioritises its customers, so we won't be returning.

Booked a table for 2. Service was very good, food looked fantastic but it had no flavour. Neither the fish or the chips. Disappointed, a £90 spend for two but no flavour.

Great food little bit over top on price

Disappointed. Service excellent very welcoming and polite. Food ordered fish and chips, chips very hard mainly not fluffy chips as expected the fish batter soggy not crispy, mushy peas clumpy. Cocktail ordered lemon sherbert no presentation words was sorry no candyfloss to put on the top, just tasted like flat lemon fanta. Desert chocolate cake dry, and ice in the ice cream so been used and left a while. Basically because it was a groupon voucher the food and drink quality and presentation represented this so your not really getting any value for money. Wouldnt recommend a visit with a groupon voucher.

The ambience is beautiful, it has a very cozy and comfy vibe. We took the sharing platter for the starters and traditional fish and chips for the main. The best thing on the starters platter was the Mac'n'cheese bites, they were flavorful and crispy on the outside. They also had good dips (garlic mayo and mushy peas). The fish n chips were really tasty!

Fish was excellent, large portions, cooked to perfection.

Oh man....don't bother. Went years ago and spot on, but nothing been done in last 6 years. Looks and feels dirty, menus look like they've been digested themselves. Food was appalling

Food was ok, waiter wasn't really bothered (asked him for something, never came back - there were only us and another table of 2). Maybe this used to something great , unfortunately I didn't experience this on the night.

Upon our early arrival for our reservation, we discovered our table was not yet prepared. However, this minor inconvenience swiftly turned into a delightful prelude, as we were graciously accommodated at the bar. The staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort, displaying exceptional hospitality despite our premature presence. Our dining experience took place in a charming, beach hut-themed section of the restaurant, where we were pleasantly surprised by the breadth of the menu. Accompanying me was a six-year-old, who was treated with such remarkable attention and care by the staff, making her feel exceptionally valued and special. While the extraordinary service and vibrant atmosphere alone would have been sufficient to guarantee a return visit, the culinary experience elevated our evening to new heights. The dishes were not only visually appealing but were crafted from the freshest ingredients, resulting in flavours that were both exquisite and satisfying. This dining experience proved to be not just memorable but also offered excellent value for money. A truly commendable establishment that I eagerly look forward to visiting again.

I pre booked a table, asked if it was possible to have balloons and happy birthday writing on my mum's dessert. Amazing service, greeted with happy birthday, even sang happy birthday. Made my mum's 70th birthday very special thank you so much. Food was so fresh, and great service. Will definitely return and recommend.

My partner took me to George’s as a suprise for passing some exams as she knows fish is my favourite food and thought it would be a nice special treat. Our waiter looked stoned, he didn’t even know what day of the week it was when I asked at the end of the meal if you did blue light discount and he wasn’t sure due to it being a Saturday (when asked he said ‘what day is it today’). The fish and chips were lovely but for nearly £20, they were no different to my local chippy where I pay £7.20. My partner had the chicken burger which came with coleslaw inside the burger which ruined the burger. The mayonnaise we asked for was bland and didn’t taste of anything. For a pricey restaurant I’d expect at least a branded mayonnaise but this one did not taste of anything, especially not Heinz or hellmans. Nobody checked back on our meal to see how our food was and it took a while after we had finished for somebody to clear our plates. At this point of the night the restaurant was not busy so I expected the service to be more attentive. I work in an expensive food industry and know what service and standards to provide to customers and this experience I did not feel was up to a high standard at all.

Extremely overpriced for what it was. Food was bland and didn’t taste of much. To say you need to give your card details to make a booking I’d have expected better service.

Had a great meal, nice staff, fun music

Visited with my father & his lady for a pre concert dinner. Located in the city centre very close to the Royal Albert Hall. Relatively quiet upon entry being a Thursday evening 1730. Tall ceilings, various old songs played overhead and we were seated a 4 seat table. Finest Haddock ×3 Bread & Butter Arctic Roll Strawberry Cheesecake The chips had a subtle orange hue to them. They weren't crunchy but the flavour and fluffyness within was delightful. Chip shop chips done right. The haddock portions were enjoyed without a single bone present. The batter was a very crispy and NOT oily affair. Very good restaurant fish & chips. I hadn't been here before but they've been a few times and had eagerly recommended it to me prior to my visit. I hear "Georges" are all the rage up North.

Chips fantastic - look & taste just like a good chippy would cook. Double Cheeseburger they came with also excellent. Got a discount off the food as we could show theatre tickets being used the same day.

Treated by a friend with a Wowcher. I cannot fault the service by the Polish gentleman (sorry I can't remember your name) & his friendly & efficient staff. The batter was the lightest & crispiest I have ever tasted. My friend & I shared the starter taster-yum. Fritters of cheese, mushy peas & hake with 3 dips. Delish. I had a steak & ale chip shop style pie with proper flavour & tender meat s/w tenderstem broccoli, strange baby carrots & peas, my friend had the trad fish & chips & the fish was faultless. The deal included a cocktail each which was although very sweet on the menu was "lemoned" up to make it a better accompianment to.the meal, so we had 2! The tables were properly scrubbed down between diners. Something that other restaurants could learn from. Thank-you Georges.

Lovely restaurant near Market Square. I had the chicken and wild mushroom pie with mash and it was delicious! My husband had the Sea Bass. The portion was a little disappointing but it was very good as well. Service was great too. Definitely recommend!

There's nothing great about this. Rarely tasted fish and chips so bland, batter so mushy, peas so utterly tasteless. The rest of the seafood was barely edible. Nice interior design and friendly staff. But there is no reason to ever return there.

What an amazing experience we had here last night for a work Christmas meal. From start to finish the service was fantastic. The food came out like clock work and was piping hot and delicious! The drinks were also super tasty and refreshing. The lady who looked after our table is a credit to the team. Very friendly, professional and down to earth. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly - the chefs are a talented bunch! Thank you for making our Christmas meal one to remember. We will definitely be back in the future! Christmas meal with the folks from work. Very disappointed, a Yorkshire pudding with gravy, soggy sprouts, peas & carrots, stuffing, pigs in blankets and a lump of turkey on top. Not what I would expect from my previous visits.

8 of us on a groupon. Fab food great service

I used to come here quite often as we thought it was one of the best fish 'n' chips restaurant in Nottingham. We went this evening and was disappointed to see the frills that used to be in place were gone. No ketchup on tables, there used to be different vinegars to try (only malt vinegar now). The restaurant itself was uncomfortably cold, it was a cold day/evening in fairness so turning up the heating would have been welcomed. I was wearing a chunky jumper and still thought it was cold. As for the food itself, I thought the chips tasted like oven chips. My seafood basket was heavy going. I felt the quality of the food has declined since we visited a couple of years ago. I would say it's average and not worth the premium price point charged by the restaurant.

Great decor with an industrial slant, staff were very helpful and friendly. Food very good quality. Will be a go to place in the future. Recommend a try.

Got a wowcher deal worth the price .but felt like once they knew we had a prepaid deal the service dropped quickly. At first they was very helpful and fast but once we gave the deal code in we was left last and big gaps waiting we did buy a few extras aswell.the food was nice but due to the service I would not return. All customers should be treated the same and we did not feel this way

Coming here with friends for the first time. I ordered seafood basket and they came with chips n tartare sauce. The amount seafood in there were not worth the £18 ish price. For the drink I ordered George's lemonade and it was actually nice drink. Apart from that Nothing was special with the food here. Over priced n the atmosphere was dead. No music at all. If you want lively, cosy and warm atmosphere place to eat , this place is not for you. Would no be back again in the future. Will just go and order fish n chips from corner chippy.

Just had a fabulous meal at George's. Food was fresh, tasted good and there was plenty of it. The atmosphere was very welcoming, nothing was too much trouble for friendly staff, special thank you to Les who took time to make sure we had a lovely meal. We will definitely return.

FOH got our order wrong from the start, trying to be clever and remember our order without writing it down, proceeded to come back to the table to check what we ordered and still missed a starter. The bar man had to come over and check what we ordered for drinks. No check backs on the table, the starters were mediocre not worth the price point. For the main courses we ordered 2 pies (1 chicken and mushroom with chips and 1 steak and ale with mash) which the put the starches on the wrong plates which in the grand scheme of things wasn't as much of a disappointment than the actual taste of the food. The Mash was watery and not seasoned the pie was bland and the gravy tasted like watery bisto, the chips were pale and soggy. Again no check backs on our table. Would not recommend and would advise people to avoid.

Impromptu shopping trip to Nottingham. Called in here basically because they served Fish and Chips as my partner loves them. Never been here before but couldn’t fault it and when in Nottingham again will certainly call again. Highly recommend

Service is very friendly and welcoming. Food portions are a good size and value for money, plus very tasty. We had the Chicken pie and Gammon and was spot on.

Did not eat here just drinks, a bit pricey especially with the service charge made my cup of tea, not a pot, over £4 but the grand kids enjoyed their cocktails

Not worth the money. We somehow spent upwards of £70 on some over-sweet cocktails, a glass of wine and two tiny fish dishes (sea bass and halibut) with some really underwhelming side dishes. It might be a good place for fish and chips but beware ordering from the rest of the menu, it felt like cafeteria food for restaurant prices. We ended up having gigantic deserts at a different restaurant because we were still starving afterwards (despite being significantly poorer). The service was great though, and the building is beautiful.

The decor is lovely & sea themed, the menu choice is great and the food itself is phenomenal. The staff are very accommodating, nothing is too much trouble, and they're very friendly. Lovely atmosphere and a great vibe. Honestly couldn't fault this place and will 100% be recommending and coming again!

Everything were excellent, especially British Breakfast. That was really amazing. Lots of menu and coffee was also fresh and tasted good. I definitely come again when I go back to Nottingham!

I thought I d ordered from George’s traditional but ended with food from here! The few chips there was were mostly black and the fish looked lovely but was tasteless and all batter

Great freindly environment, I ordered a fish feast, it was a large cod a with a pile load of chips 3 fresh onion rings in a nice crispy golden batter(this is the best batter I have tasted in a while) served along side with a slice of bread and a boat of mushy peas and it was exceptional for the price of £25 you couldnt go wrong. I couldn't eat it all I had my partner clearing the rest of my plate lol! We will be definitely coming back to George's many thanks to everyone who made our stay extraordinary! Thank you for my birthday board 😊

Was pleasantly surprised! The food is so good here. Portions are massive, the chicken burger was delicious and so was the curry battered fish, definitely worth a visit. Friendly staff and quick service! Nice drinks too. Great location.

Beautifully decorated and very friendly staff. Also appears to be very good with allergies. The food was a bit disappointing as it was quite bland and lacking seasoning. The food was still okay but considering the price we expected more.

Ambience was nice and food was alright.

I ordered the steak IPA pie, was supposed to be with sautéed veg, but was tinned veg and all I could taste was the brine so left the rest, the mash tasted processed too with spring onion mixed in. Was supposed to be 'homemade onion gravy' but was a tasteless lumpy brown sauce that had been nowhere near an onion. The rest of the group had mainly fish and chips and they quite liked there's. I didn't like to complain and spoil the lunch for everyone but I won't be returning, they even added on £14 service charge.

Good vegetarian options and a super friendly staff. Authentic British cuisine with dishes such as fish n chips and chicken tikka masala. Also the interior of the restaurant is very aesthetically pleasing.

It's alright. Can't say the fried food with mayo is much worth the price, but it's well presented and service is excellent. Better sauces would help, as would vinegar dispensers that aren't designed for oil (be careful of drowning your food.)

Ate here at the weekend and came here pre-Covid a lot. Since then the prices have nearly doubled but the service and what is offered has reduced. They used to has lots of nice sauces and different vinegars on the table (they have gone) my children used to like the candy floss at the end (also gone) but fish and chips is £18!!!!!!

Well we couldn't decide where to go for food, and ended up at George's, not really a big fish fan, just fancied something different, have to say 10/10, the food was so tasty, I had to borrow some of the wives chips to mop up the sauce left on me plate, could go on, fully recommend a visit, we don't have a George's in our city, will deffo go back, as service was also excellent 👍👍👍
