Bar + Block Steakhouse in Nottingham

We came for Valentine’s Day last night and it was absolutely amazing! Ella and Angela were so lovely and ensured we had everything we needed, the chefs were lovely too and the food was incredible, we’ve never had anything like it. I had a burger and my boyfriend had a steak which were reasonably priced and so tasty. We had the cinnamon churros sundae for desert and safe to say it didn’t disappoint! We will 100% be back, it’s my new favourite place! Thankyou so much :)

We regularly come back to this place for off menu large cuts. Even at 28oz, 32oz. The steaks are cooked brilliantly. The staff have always been super helpful and accommodating to our requests. Prompt in refilling drinks and enthusiastic about the food.

We had a pleasant Saturday lunch at Bar + Block Steakhouse, and as someone who doesn’t eat red meat, I was pleasantly surprised by the variety and flexibility of the menu. While the food was decent overall, there were some hits and misses. I really enjoyed the sides and the Fish on Block, but unfortunately, others in my group were less satisfied with their steaks. The sirloin, ordered medium-rare, arrived almost raw in the center and had to be sent back. Meanwhile, the brisket burger was reportedly chewy and lacked flavor. On the brighter side, the corn on the cob, sides, and sauces were definite highlights. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, though our initial seating was quite cramped, leaving us with little space for our food. We moved to a table by the large window, which made for a much more comfortable experience. One of the standout aspects of our visit was the staff—they were incredibly friendly, accommodating, and eager to help. Overall, while there were some enjoyable elements, the inconsistency in the food might make us hesitant to return—especially without the discount code we had this time.

Reading through reviews I'm quiet shocked as my waiter Alan B was miserable and couldn't wait to get away from our table mid way through asking a question or ordering . The food was excellent though. I like to go to a restaurant and have customer service so I won't go back again.

I am not going to leave stars for food , service or atmosphere . That is subjective to all and any marks I give are not a true reflection of my experience. The staff were exemplary. Simply that . For reference I am a single traveller, happen to live in the city ( had walked out of 3 restaurants this evening due to my personal experience) these deserve my praise and my leisure pound . Totally staff lead .

I was looking forward to a great steak dinner with my family, but unfortunately, my experience fell short of expectations. The first steak I received was overcooked to the point of being burnt, with a bitter taste that overpowered the flavor of the meat. When I asked the waitress about it, I was told it was due to the seasoning, with no real acknowledgment of my concern. Hoping for a better result, I requested a replacement with the seasoning on the side. While this version was slightly better, part of the steak was still burnt. To add to the disappointment, even the kid’s chicken breast had a slight edge and was very dry, which was unexpected for a simple dish. Perhaps this is just how they prepare their food, or maybe my expectations were too high. Either way, the experience was underwhelming, and I left feeling that the quality and attention to detail were not what I had hoped for.

I attended the Nottingham bar and block and had a wonderful time food was lovely staff attentive and professional nothing too much trouble . I have to say 1 member of staff stood out though her name was Tiffany , constantly on the go making sure that not only us but everyone was being looked after by her and her staff attention to detail was observed and if your glasses was empty always on hand to ask if you would like more Very knowledgeable about both the food and wine menu and what sort of things I would like based on what I usually have when I go out but also seeing if I could dare to try something new She definitely is a asset to your establishment and a credit to your company . I will definitely be returning and will be recommending your bar and your staff well done and thank you. (especially Tiffany)

We booked for our annual “lads’ Xmas meal”, while the food was good, the following elements were missing for me: 1) The beer choice available was very poor. I like bitter, but all our waiter had to offer was lager, lager, lager, IPA, cider, Guinness. Why not have a decent bitter type drink instead of one of the lagers? 2) I ordered the Asian crispy shredded beef for a starter. What arrived was a bowl of just that; a few strands of vegetation added.. I gave up half way through, nice as it was I would expect something to eat with it like salad, more veg, noodles? 3) My main was steak and chips. That’s all the dish is made up of; again, I’d expect some added vegetable for a £30 meal; maybe peas, or mushrooms? If these were available, they weren’t offered by our waiter. It was a very nice steak! 4) 2 of my friends had a jacket potato instead of chips. Both had to call the waiter over to ask for butter, and he brought just one little packet for each. This wasn’t enough; jacket spuds need butter! One friend left half of his potato as it was butter-less and the waiter didn’t come back again. 5) my dessert was banoffee cheesecake, there was a bit of banana and a drizzle of caramel, but it really just tasted of standard cheesecake; I expected more! 6) Finally we were told a few days before our meal that a major food supplier had closed down and a restricted menu would be available. It was a decent menu but did lack a bit of Xmas spirit. I’d have thought a little discount for diners who didn’t cancel and go elsewhere might have been nice. We did ask, but were told no.

Came here for a January Christmas lunch about 25 of us, delicious food and fantastic staff that looked after all the last minute changes and all dietary requirements, thank you ❤️

Been coming here for years and years but the past 2 years the chips haven’t been triple cooked chips as written on the menu or as we have had previously and the onion rings aren’t made fresh both seem to be frozen oven chips and onion rings. For the price you are paying you expect top quality as what’s the point of coming to a restaurant if I can do exactly the same at home?. It honestly ruins the high-end feel to the place as the steak is amazing quality and cooked perfectly. Cocktails are lovely too. Like I said it’s just the frozen chips and onions rings that let the place down when they used to be freshly made. Please start doing this again. Also I do agree with one of the comments below 👇 for the price you are paying you should at least some grilled tomatoes and mushrooms and bit of salad garnish for the price

After a four hour journey and a chaotic day, I couldn't have been happier with the service and quality of food offered by the steakhouse staff. They've all been a godsend today!

Was well looked after by Mellis she apologised for shortage of products but the chef produced a cracking meal all the staff were excellent and polite making our stay enjoyable

Never like to write a bad review but no option here. Family meal, pre-ordered. I chose the Xmas turkey. I’ve had several Xmas lunches recently of varying qualities but this one hit rock bottom! That blackened square at the top of my plate was stuffing. It arrived with the blackened side underneath. I called the waitress and drew her attention to it. She offered to get it replaced but I said although I didn’t actually want it, it shouldn’t have been sent out like that from the kitchen in the first place. The turkey meals had obviously been reheated from the previous day. The glazed carrots were over cooked in the middle and burnt at the ends due to reheating, the turkey was unbelievably dry - even 3/4 days after Xmas when husband, son and cat refuse to eat more meat, our turkey isn’t as dry as this. However the parsnips were ok. Otherwise It was really disgraceful and the person in charge of the kitchen should have been embarrassed to send out this food. My choice of dessert was a mince pie - a pallid offering unadorned on a plain white plate, no effort to make it look more appealing and a black coffee in a glass cup, showing it to be watery and weak. There was a choice of hot drink and I chose black coffee on the basis that they couldn’t do much wrong with it! The comments above are my personal opinion and I’m not speaking for anyone else in the group. Service was pleasant and prompt. People who chose the veggie option, Carrot En Croûte i think, faired better and enjoyed it. Plus side, toilets were clean. Do I recommend? Absolutely not Will I go back? Absolutely not

Arrived on time for the booking the table was not ready. Had to wait in the bar. Felt like we had been forgotten about. Asked a server if our table was ready yet and magically it was. They sat us down at a table that was empty when we originally arrived. Ordered steak medium rare, arrived rare. Ordered a side order of prawns for £6. Two tiny shrimp arrived in a shell. Not happy, won't be returning.

Came for work Christmas lunch approx 30 people. Staff were great and very accommodating of us despite last minute changes in numbers and dietary requirements. Excellent portion size. Largest Christmas dinner I've seen when eating out. Vegan was option lovely and large potion size. Overall best lunch I can remember.

Stayed in the premier inn the food was really nice

Rosie B was great! Very attentive and very friendly. Food surprised us for a hotel restaurant - Salt and Pepper Squid was delicious.

A lovely steak, cooked just right. A very quiet Tuesday early evening but service good and reasonable city centre prices.

Tasty steak, good wine. We only took an hour from entering the restaurant to finishing our steak but when we asked about desserts were told 'the kitchen is closed'. Maybe don't offer tables that late if you CBA to offer a full meal.

Popped in here for breakfast was served by a waitress called Lilly who made us feel so welcome and talked us through the menu. The breakfast was delicious and was more than enough 10 out of 10 for me.

Amazing breakfast would 100% recommend, all service was good but Dan and Lily were brill, will definitely be returning soon

Absolutely beautiful fillet steak cooked to perfection. Really can’t fault this place. Rosie served us very efficiently and the food was wonderful washed down with a delightful pinot. Thank you also to the chef’s for an excellent meal

Visited for the first time for a birthday meal. Weekday and quite early so it was fairly quiet. The venue itself is nice and the service initially was quick. However the food isn’t good - we had a fillet steak that was undercooked and grisly, plus a rib that was overcooked and dry. The chips and onion rings were from the freezer I suspect. After the meal we waited quite a while for the bill to come and ended up going to the bar to pay. I would recommend avoiding, for a steak place the quality and cooking is nowhere near what it should be. Miller and Carter is in a different class despite there not being much of a price difference.

Very very poor quality food. Ordered fillet steak medium rare with salsa sauce and grilled asparagus. The steak was pretty much rare, the salsa sauce was not even a sauce but only chopped tomatoes (very strange) and barely received any asparagus, which lacked in colour and was a bit soggy. You can tell when a chef does not care, and this time they didn't. Absolutely not good enough for the price paid. Only good thing was the service from a lovely lady. Won't return.

My son wanted to come hear after I said it was nice for meal so he could try it now he's got me booking a festive meal in November and then again early next year

For the price we paid, I wasn't impressed. The fillet steaks were cut in big cubes, which results in a burnt outside and a raw inside. The cocktails were pretty good though.

Really enjoyable meal, especially recommend the ribeye. Ideal place if you're looking for somewhere more casual than places like Miller and Carter but without compromising on quality. Atmosphere was a little on the quiet side but that could be put down to the time of day.

We love this place, a 2 night stay in Nottingham we do this at least 3 times a year. The food is beautiful we try to tie in a Sunday so we can have the Sunday roast it's gorgeous. The service is good and the staff are very helpful and friendly. Tiff is great she always comes to talk to us and we have abit of a laugh, she is full of good advice about things do and places to go to around the city. Next stay might be new year. Watch out Tiff we are coming back.

Nice staff & clean restaurant. Ordered two steaks medium - one came well done the other undercooked. Truffle mac & cheese portion was very small for the price and tasted bland and wings barely had any sauce on them. Overall food tasted okay. £86 dinner for 2 — we expected much better.

Went for a 21st birthday. Was not disappointing. Warm welcome at front desk - shown to the table. From the starter to the desserts all had there own little different taste style and accompaniment to the dishes. Female waitress very helpful polite and friendly. A good choice of venue - first time at this chain- steakhouse - will definitely be going again.

Booked a 2pm Sunday lunch, waited 50 minutes for a luke warm Sunday Lunch. Food served with a thimble full of gravy, asked for was informed it would be 10 Mins. Had a lot better for a lot less

No sign saying dogs are not allowed. My Weimaraner is trained and restaurant tested. We have been to many restaurants and steakhouses in Munich, where I usually spend over €100 for two people. I've been to a few cafes and restaurants with him in the UK without any problems. Discriminatory towards dog owners.

Great place , great atmosphere, food was amazing and service was good too

First time visiting Bar and Block in Notts and we had a great time! Steak was cooked spot on and the scallops were perfect! We were served by Ella, we later found out that it her first shift and she was brilliant, she was polite and nothing was too much trouble!

Been here a few times and loved the meal. This time, I know it was a quiet time, 5pm, but we waited ages for someone asking what we wanted to drink after being seated. Then we checked the menu out, £29 for a steak and salad, £29 for steak and chips. Since when have we been anywhere where you don’t get the chips and salad both as part of a meal, especially for £29!!!! RIP off, then had to pay £4 for a partially burnt microwaved bake potato that was over cooked, no sour cream etc for it. Then because I wanted my steak medium to well I was told it would be butterflied to ensure it was cooked properly, with dried up samphire garnish. Needless to say we won’t be going again!!! Very poor value for money.

It was my first visit here and on my list of places to try and thought it would be a nice place to come to celebrate my daughters gcse results. The decor and feel for the place was lovely. We were seen straight away and was welcomed by a lovely young lady called Jordan. She was so nice and friendly. When we got to our little booth a little card was left for my daughter to congratulate her and I thought that was a lovely touch. The food was so nice. My daughter kept making yummy noises - she had a burger and said it was 10/10 and I had steak sandwich and it was so soft and tasty! We had a little break between our lunch and pudding then Jordan came over with a slate that had well done on it and our brownies were unreal. We left very happy and full and we will definitely be back. Thank you to everyone at Bar+Block who helped me with this little celebration all the little things were really appreciated.

Excellent experience! Everything was top notch from friendly welcome by Harry to amazing service by Jordan. We had the speciality Chateau Briand after a selection of the small plates to begin, we definitely recommend the burnt ends, everything was cooked perfectly, well seasoned and beautifully presented. Thanks to chef Nag & team! Great selection of wines too that are sensibly priced, we will be back

Great food, nicely prepared but I chose the Mexican rub, and it was too hot. Suggested a caution from the staff might have helped either the choice

When the table was booked it was mentioned that it was for our wedding anniversary and when we arrived at our table they had decorated with a "Happy Anniversary" banner, that was a lovely little touch. We shared the Chateaubriand and we left the chef to do their thing on how it should be cooked and it was cooked to perfection, juicy, tender & delicious! All of the food was tasty & cooked well. The staff were very attentive & smiley. The cocktails were good and brilliant prices on 241. We will definitely be returning and I have already recommended to all of my friends. Thank you to the team!

I’m not a great lover of steaks in uk restaurants but their fillet steaks were perfectly cooked and very tasty. Equally their chunky chips were excellent. If you haven’t been before, like us, sign up and you get 25% off your food bill. Will definitely go to this chain of restaurants again

Recently visited after a day shopping. The place looks good. The server had forgotten to put our starters through. This wasn't an issue at all. The server was friendly, attentive, apologetic and we ate our starters afterwards. These were also comped by the restaurant which was appreciated. The issue here is that the food is mediocre pub grub at inflated prices. The steak mains were very average at best. The starters/small plates were of a very poor standard, blubbery fatty chicken wings and beef burnt ends and crispy beef. These were doused in sauce, which couldn't hide the poor quality of the meats. This is not a place I could recommend to go and eat. Staff were great, the food was not. 12/08/24 In response to restaurant. I feel your message in response is a tad disingenuous. You asked us how everything was and we told you it was 'ok, not great.' I have mentioned in my review that we had no issue with the service and mentioned we appreciated that the starters were comped. What more could you have done? We certainly would not expect much more. Our server was great and we had no issues there. This does not alter the fact that the food was mediocre at best. Edible, but of an average quality. I would add also, this is not aimed at the kitchen staff either. They can only work with the ingredients given, recipes provided. Perhaps rather than get precious about people issuing honest reviews online, efforts should be made to improve the standard of ingredients/food served.

Staff were nice and the the bar is okay. But the food is really not worth the price, cuts of meat aren’t a good quality and for the price you’re not served a good value. Would recommend for a drink but not for a good steak. They Recommend medium because of the marbling on the ribeyes. There was no marbling at all, just an off cut of meat. Would definitely go somewhere else if you know what good food is and don’t think Toby Carvery is the best place for a Sunday lunch.

Had a lovely meal and great service from Freya and Tiff who served us. The food was 10/10 and we will definitely be coming again.

Booked here to celebrate my sister’s graduation. They had made up a nice wall for photos for graduates and gave little bottle of Prosecco on the house which was a lovely touch. Lovely starters, steaks, sides, desserts and cocktails. Amazing service, lovely and friendly team. Couldn’t do enough for us, all very personable. Thank you for a lovely evening!

My recent visit to Bar + Block Steakhouse left me with mixed feelings. The venue itself was impeccable—clean, well-presented, and exuding a welcoming ambiance. The staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating, which set a positive tone for our dining experience. I ordered the "Ultimate Roast," which was a mixed bag. The vegetables were fresh and well-prepared, and the dish was presented beautifully. However, the chicken skin was unfortunately burnt, likely due to overly high flames in the rotisserie. Despite this, the chicken meat was flavorful and juicy. The lamb and beef portions were disappointingly small, leaving me wanting more of these otherwise delicious meats. My partner opted for the fillet steak, which arrived as more of a joint than a traditional steak. Cooked to a perfect medium-rare as requested, the exterior was firmer than expected. This detracted from the typical melt-in-the-mouth experience that one would expect from a fillet. We had set our expectations high, naively anticipating a 4-star dining experience. While the decor, food presentation, and service lived up to this standard, the quality of the food did not quite meet our expectations on this occasion. The prices were reflective of a higher-end restaurant, which made the inconsistencies in food quality more noticeable. Overall, Bar + Block Steakhouse shows great potential, but there is room for improvement in the execution of their dishes to fully meet the high standards they aspire to. I hope to see these refinements on a future visit.

We stayed at this hotel a few years ago and really enjoyed it. So when we arrived back in Nottingham today we went for our evening meal in their restaurant. Nice and relaxed atmosphere. My son enjoyed his meal - burger with added bacon and french fries. However I had a vegetarian option and it was very poor. It was supposed to be their special salad but there was nothing special about it and certainly no avocado in it so it didn't live up to the description on the menu and certainly not worth the money. The supposed garlic potatoe side dish did not taste of garlic at all though the potatoes themselves were OK. So my son enjoyed his meal but I was very disappointed in mine. What really upset me was the waitress trying to hurry us out. She actually tried to take my plate away while I was still eating.When she did come back for the plates she reached over me and banged into me with them. Very rude. A shame because we had pleasant memories of our earlier stay at the hotel and now not so pleasant memories of the restaurant.

Beautiful meal. Venue was quiet and the service was slow.

Clueless waiter. All over the place and didn’t know anything about drinks or allergies. Didn’t have a note pad to take our order. Missed an item off of our order and then when we payed told us that his manager had taken the till off as though paying cash was some kind of an inconvenience to him. Scallops were disgusting. 🤢 The drinks were not on our bill. Not sure if that was a gesture of good faith from the manager but I wasn’t told so I’m not too sure.

Went there yesterday. Was lovely 😍. Had the cheeseburger 🍔 with fries. The complementary popcorn 🍿 with the seasoning was awesome 👌

Visited Nottingham over the weekend and went to Bar + Block on the Saturday night. No issues getting a table, food was great and the service was really nice. My friends and I ordered a variety of food and none of us left disappointed.

Restaurant/bar attached to Premier Inn. Didn't eat but drinks rather steep. Over a fiver for a 330ml bottle of Heineken and over £6 for a pint of Corona.

Came for a bottomless brunch. Was served by Jordan. The service was top tier, never an empty glass. Thanks for everything! The service was ten out of ten, would recommend! Thanks, guys!

Delicious food. Attentive service and nice drinks. Had 3 small plates to start, lovely burnt ends, flatbread and fluffy Mac & cheese bites, 2 gorgeous steaks for mains. Cooked to our liking. Finished with a yummy trio of desserts. Absolutely spot on. Not cheap but definite value for money in terms of quality of produce and level of service. Visited with some friends for food. The food itself was nice although service was a bit slow even though the restaurant wasn't very busy. The restaurant is connected to a Premier Inn

Very nice and tasty experience. Steaks were done medium rare exactly how we wanted. Fillet and Ribeye were tender and the steak sauce complemented the dish perfectly. Drinks were also very nicely mixxed. For a nice meal out, definitely recommend.

My go to place, great offers, excellent food.

Yet another great meal here with equally great service-the "Old Fashioned" cocktails are excellent & at 2 for a tenner you cannot go wrong. Prawns excellent,steak excellent drinks excellent so thank you to the staff,chef's & management alike. Table 18 booked for 7pm Sat 7th Oct -seated promptly & looked after very well even though they were busy. We will always use this fabulous restaurant right in the middle of Nottingham.

Fantastic steaks and cocktails. Ordered a fillet and it was perfect. The staff were friendly and helpful and patient while we asked a million questions about the cocktails trying to pick which we wanted. We’ll definitely be back.

Had a fantastic birthday bash with family, the ribeye steak was cooked to perfection

Went in for happy hour drinks. The margarita is fabulous. The service is great. Highly recommend for friends' gathering.

Overnight stay in Nottingham. This restaurant was close to the hotel. Staff were really friendly and helped us out with plans for the next day. Highlight is the food! Best steak I’ve ever had and cooked perfectly.

A rare visit to Nottingham, we stayed in the hotel attached to this restaurant. Great service provided by Lori, she made the evening extra special. Steak to die for - so good! Fabulous!

Service slow but pleasant. My scollaps over done but soon changed. Drink expensive. On the whole a very pleasant mothering sunday

Good Fillet 12oz medium rare. Enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Some nice collection of drinks 🍷🥂🍷.

Came in for my 21st birthday, staff were really friendly and food was amazing, they even put a birthday banner on the table and gave us a brownie at the end.

A real dissapointment. Booked at 8pm when the latest booking online was 930. Was told the place would be closing at 9 when we got there (too late to change). Got told at 845 it was last drinks orders despite not havong our food. Got given the bill and basically was told to drink up and get out at 915. Spent 200 quid but they didnt care. Really poor. We booked here on a sunday because google says its open til 1030. Didnt get offered deserts and basically got told to get out. Poor

Absolutely amazing service! Alan was so helpful and friendly. Would definitely come back here again. We all enjoyed ourselves massively. Food was incredible! Thank you!

Daniel manager in the morning absolutely lovely so professional runs it so smoothly, a special mention about Alex waitress she really does go that extra mile so pleasent smiling and welcoming keep it up, can't recommend this bar enough stayed in Premier Inn joined for 2 nights, food morning and night lovely, even if you only want drinks they will make you so welcome thank you
