Son of Steak in Nottingham

Update we first reviewed this place 1 star as food was shocking but after speaking to the owner Shaun he invited all 4 of us back to have food and drink on the house we went this evening 20th jan all i can say is thank you lovely food no issues came out in about 15 mins Well first time going today took 50 mins for food to come out i had the ribeye steak medium it was really fatty and raw wife's chicken burger was poor On the good side of it the waitress amelia was really pleasant

Succulent food, good atmosphere

This place isn’t what is used to be Steak was tasteless and should have been medium to medium rare, but was well done, the burger made me feel physically ill and the price is extortionate for what you get. Used to be an amazing place but it’s a shame to see how far down the drain it’s gone. 1 star is not low enough, save your money and go literally anywhere else.

Steaks we're very nice cooked as requested sides were nice classic chicken burger partner wasnt keen, service was slow took 50 mins from being seated to Start seeing food arriving at the table, it was Saturday night however still slow in my personal opinion.

On the way to the theatre ordered a 5oz fillet and that is all thst comes nothing else £17.50 at lunchtime had to then pay £5.75 for sides and £1.75 for miniscule gravy Matthew our waiter was 10/10

Went for the bottomless brunch - food and service was brilliant and speedy, we had a total of 8 cocktails each in the 1.5 hours and could not fault that. However, what the menu doesn’t mention is that some of the cocktails have less alcohol in them when you are bottomless brunching compared to if you were buying them separately and paying full price, for example the pornstar martini does not come with the Prosecco shot in the bottomless brunch and has 25ml of alcohol in compared to the usual 50ml. We were also told that other of the cocktails that usually contain 50ml of alcohol are put down to 25ml for the bottomless. We only asked about this after we received our final cocktails which did not contain any alcohol. This was rectified immediately but left us questioning how many of our prior cocktails contained little/no alcohol.

Went on NYE was fairly busy but not busy enough for service to be as bad as it was. Took an hour to get our food and once we got it, it was lukewarm and clearly had been sitting for a while. Once we had finished the food it took over half an hour to find a server, as there were only 2 around the whole restaurant, to take away our plates and get the bill, other people’s plates and drinks were everywhere all over the tables where they hadn’t been taken in over an hour. Food was nice just a shame about the service.

Looking for somewhere to eat, after the theatre, popped into this Son of Steak. We were served immediately, food arrived quickly, which was delicious!! And the cost was very reasonable too!! All round great experience

Great, clean atmosphere in son of steak and the music was good. Served by a very helpful and kind man and woman, Shawn and Nicole. They went above and beyond for our group. The food was delicious. Had a really good time. Will deffo be back

Honestly some of the nicest food I’ve had with such a good atmosphere, the staff were really friendly and the cocktails were so strong and punchy in flavour, will definitely be coming back, cheers guys 🎉

Went here for our Christmas party, wasn't that impressed It might have been the time of the year but I certainly won't be rushing back, disappointed

Booked a table for a birthday meal for 7:30. Driving a long way so arrived a little late. There were still tables free and no queue. Was told our table in restaurant had been given away as they “only hold them for 15 minutes”. I got out my phone to show him it was only 7:43 so clearly he had not waited 15 mins and they were already seated?! We took another table (an high stool table and ordered at 7:55. The food was brought to our table an HOUR LATER at 8:55pm. ( just 2 of us with 2 steaks, fries and broccoli!) very disappointed as we were looking forward to it. My fillet Steak was tiny & well-cooked but daughter’s sirloin was rare despite asking for medium. After such a long wait (seeing people who had arrived after us being served first) and mediocre food, we were then told they had no desserts except some ice cream. Took ages to get the bill too. Absolute waste of evening. 1/5

Arrived today with my wife and 2 teenage children, which was booked last week for a pre Christmas treat. We all wanted to order the "bottomless munch". We were told by the waitress that u18's were not allowed to have this! We questioned why, even though they would only be having soft drinks (obviously) and the menu small print also stated no alcohol for u18s ( again obviously), nowhere on the menu small print does it state u18s cannot order a bottomless munch. We then decided that the teens could order off the menu and my wife and I will order the bottomless munch, to be told again we cannot order the bottomless munch as everyone on the table has to order the same thing! The waitress said she will check with the Manager. Next thing the "Manager" struts over, saying you "wanted to see me?", no not really, he then repeats the waitresses statements, even though the menu small print does not exclude u18's from a bottomless munch nor does it state that everyone has to order the same thing. I have never heard of such ridiculousness and idiocrisy, the Manager just kept stating "it's the policy" but could not explain the reason why when asked. This is clear discrimination to us as a mixed aged family, terms and conditions are not clear and we felt the staff could not clearly communicate a valid reason for refusing the offer, we feel that this was a underhanded ploy to coerce us into ordering off the main menu plus drinks, at a higher cost to us. We decided to leave due to the abysmal customer service and ate else where. Would love to be able give an honest rating on the food, but couldn't even get that far, one star for service and one for atmosphere as the staff created a negative one. Be warned if you want to go as a table of mixed ages.

Having read the good reviews about Son of Steak and its relation to chains such as Miller and Carter (that we’ve never had a bad meal at) we decided to visit. We ordered our drinks to find the red wine came with floating bits in and a dirty glass - once raised with staff they replaced this no problem. Our food came out which was all cold and very bland and dry. That being said, the staff couldn’t be more apologetic and were very helpful with the multiple allergens we had within our party. Unfortunately we won’t be returning here again and would urge others to think twice before spending hard earned money at this venue.

Myself, my sister and a friend visited for a steak one evening mid week. We had booked but hadn’t needed too (we aren’t from Nottingham so wasn’t sure how busy places got). On arrival we requested a booth, which wasn’t an issue. Also asked for the air con to be turned down/off, which was done. Staff very pleasant and helpful with regard to the menu. All food cooked really well. We each ordered different steaks, cooked either rare or medium. And we shared 5/6 sides.

I was turned away at 8:45 pm (table of 2) if they close at 10 why are people being turned away over an hour before close?!

Delicious & juicy steak enjoyed with a beef dripping sauce🍖 really good food and arrived piping hot! Servers were all lovely too😋

We came for our 15th wedding anniversary and to be honest we were both disappointed. Service was average at best. Non of the sides we wanted were available at 19:00. Beer below average (draft) Cocktails pre made cartons no skill involved. Food. My wife had a flat Iron steak that was cooked and served perfectly. I had the prime cut NY strip and I wish I had ordered the flat iron, (I’ll say no more) All the side we had were ok but a little on the cold side. Summary: This place has a feeling of a fast food restaurant with a top end steakhouse price list. 5/10 and being generous

Recently went to son of steak and had a wonderful time. I ordered the T-bone which was cooked to perfection. Our waitress Amelia was terrific with her friendly attitude and knowledge of the food, definitely would recommend 👍

Bloomin' lovely experience after the theater, had a cracking meal and the server Ariana was a good laugh. Helped us chose and kept the night fun. Food by Chef Emma was on it too! Great work to the team, will be back soon.

Everytime I'm in Nottingham to visit family, this place will be a must go place to have a meal. Perfectly cooked cuts of steak, awesome service and chill atmosphere. Today's lunch was cooked by Chef Daniel. Clean plates all around.

Great food, great value for money - we had the ‘Bottomless Munch’ and the food options were varied and excellent and our server Kaci couldn’t have been nicer or done more for us!

The steaks cooked by Ben were amazing and Justina our server was friendly and very professional. The cauliflower wings were excellent. Definitely recommend anyone to visit Son of Steak.

I ordered a Ny strip medium rare 2 fries, 2 beers and beef dripping. This was the worst eating experience that I’ve ever had. The steak came out cold and lacked any real flavour, for the price of around 20 pound just for the steak I would expect with it being in the name ‘son of steak’ that the one thing they’d get right is the steak… the food took quite a long time to arrive at the table (granted it was busy) but I also had to ask for a new beer as even that tasted dodgy. The staff were ok no issues with them but the quality of food for that price was disgraceful, if I take into account that Wetherspoons does a steak meal for half of the price that we paid, I’d take the Wetherspoons steak. Total paid was around 33 pound per person to cover the overall bill of 7 people.

Justina was so quick and lovley with our orders. The food was brilliant so filling and the chef Ben cooked it all perfectly.

Came for a bottomless brunch for my 21st birthday and it was amazing!!! The food made but Ben was beyond our expectations, I would 100% recommend the burgers. Our server Justina was such a delight, very friendly and attentive. She always made sure we had enough drinks which was very much appreciated!!! If you’re in the area this restaurant is an absolute must

Justina was absolutely brilliant! We had the bottomless brunch and our drinks were constantly topped up with lovely service. Our food, made by the chef Ben, was absolutely to die for. The crispy chicken burger with the korean beef tacos, slaw and chips was phenomenal. So filling and lovely, could not recommend this place more. Especially because of the service. Massive thank you to Justina and Ben!

Dined here yesterday afternoon for the first time, & was impressed more than enough to be coming back again. Had an absolutely delicious steak cooked by Tinnaha I am told, thanks! & I also quite liked the rustic vibe and atmosphere of the place but lastly thank you to our server Nicole who made the dining experience delightful.

5/5 experience all round, Nicole thank you for your excellent service you made sure me and my group was well looked after throughout! & thank you tee a meal cooked to personal i would say, succulent meat, & cool chargrilled lines on the steak that created a nice smoky taste, will definitely be back :)

After work, I chose to dine here and ordered a ribeye. The food was exceptional, and I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. I believe Lex was the chef responsible for my ribeye, and they did an outstanding job. I would definitely like to return, as my craving for ribeye was completely satisfied.

Walked in and everyone was happy to help me, the manager Ariana walked us through menu and gave good suggestions. Food came out in good time, no complaints there. All in all, good little spot for a steak.

Today I was served by Matt and I must say he has incredible customer service, I’ve never felt more welcome in a venue than I did today, compliments to chef Robert as well as my food was fantastic, I will be returning with more people next time!

The food is amazing if not overpriced The service is atrocious and the staff are disrespectful Takeaway service in a very good restaurant. -- Overrated and overpriced, steak was full of gristle and not very tasty. The portion sizes were small and I could easily have had the same again. This place is a scam to get money for little effort. There isn’t even any service other than to deliver the meals. I wouldn’t want to visit on a busy night.

Great food when it arrived... atmosphere was OK but we were in a booth for x2!! Service was slow the eating experiance (main course only) was well over an hour from sitting down to finishing our lunch which for a rare steak begs the question what you doing with it?

Another excellent 5oz fillet at SoS!! Love it. Great service once again, especially from Jess… service with a smile.

Yesterday me and my step-mum dined at Son of Steak on our way to watch Simon Brodkin at Theatre Royal. She is from Morocco and is new to the Nottingham area. I had been with a friend before and I knew it was a reliable dining experience. Conscious of time before the show, our waiter, Jason; seated us immediately in a booth with a friendly smile. He could sense we were in a hurry and was very proactive about bringing over our menus, advising us to order the ribeye, which were delicious. We had a lot of shopping bags and he sat us at a table with a lot of space. Overall I was really happy with my experience. I would recommend that you dine here, all the serving staff are lovely. Make sure to tip!

I am from Morocco and have a step-daughter at one of the universities. I was on holiday, visiting her and she suggested we go to Son of Steak because she had been before with her friends. We had plans to go to the theater after. We had amazing service. Jason the waiter was very friendly to us and helped us get our dinner ready in time to relax before the show. He gave us one of the nicest tables, because we had a lot of shopping and made our experience very comfortable. The steaks he recommended were very nice. Me and my daughter both agreed we would come back to this place! :)

Excellent service from the moment we walked through the door. Justina is an amazing server and made sure we were topped up with drinks regularly during our bottomless brunch. Not only did she make sure we were ok but she checked on all the tables she served and did so with a smile every time. Will 100% come again

First time at son of steak yesterday and ordered the ribeye medium rare and chef Tristan cooked it to perfection, best steak I’ve had in a long while. Jack made sure we was well looked after, will definitely be back with more people next time.

Me and my partner came in today for the express lunch menu and was greeted by Matt, food arrived and it was delicious!! Wanted to give a thank you to the chef who I was told was called Tristan who cooked our steaks as they were fantastic! Definitely worth the visit today!
