Having eaten at the George a few times I thought it was time to right a review. The food we have had on every visit is exceptional, last night we had the scotch egg and grilled king prawns followed by the sirloin steak for 2, the chefs obviously are passionate about what they do and it shows in the food. The service is unassuming but very efficient the perfect combination. We will definitely be back again.

A serendipitous find on our way back from a nursery and looking for lunch. A very friendly pub with a gorgeous fire, and cheffy food to die for. Amazed at the quality of the food, and different takes on usual pub food, e.g. the hummus was so good with black garlic and hot green sauce. There’s a separate room for a group of up to 20. A good selection of beers and wines. If we are in that area again, we shall definitely revisit. Many thanks.

Been passing this pub for years looking forward to booking for a Sunday lunch. Finally got the opportunity and arranged to meet friends there. Initial impressions were that the traditional looking pub had a fairly modern bland interior and seemed just to be lots of tables laid out, not how i imagined the lovely looking building to be. I thought it would have been lovely leather sofas, soft furnishings and big open fire. I may have missed some of the details as i was walked through the front bar area to a larger dining room at the back. The room was simply designed to get as many bums on seats as possible, it lacked atmosphere but it was warm, and the service was polite and prompt. The menu was a little disappointing, we were going for a Sunday roast, so i didn’t pay attention to the other choices available for mains. The roast was ok… good Yorkshire pudding, tender meat but a little bland, vegetable offering was one 1/4 of a parsnip and then shared bowls of roast potatoes (not a lot for 4 people) steamed broccoli & carrots the potatoes were good but the rest was fairly plain and didn’t have much flavour. There was no salt and pepper on the table, and i decided not to ask for any i thought i’d let the food speak for itself, but it needed seasoning. Also if you don’t like gravy then tell them as the meat and Yorkshire comes plated up with it already added. personally i prefer to put on my own where i want it and prefer it when it comes up in a separate jug. This was also the first time that i have ever not had a starter or a dessert, i usually have both, as do my friends. However we were all underwhelmed at the lack of choice, starters as well as desserts. The dessert offering was sticky toffee pudding, which my husband enjoyed, a chocolate desert, a cheese selection and an apple crumble, which out of the three would have been the only one i would have fancied…. my friend had it, it was ok but not much crumble topping & it only came with ice cream, no custard available, no cream either… only ice cream. i did ask if the chef could do a custard was was told firmly no…. sorry no custard! which seems a bit strange in a pub dessert menu in November. Overall a good lunch, but not a great lunch. For four of us, no starters, two deserts, one small wine, 1/2 cider, 1/2 ale & a mineral water with a side of fries and cauliflower cheese the bill came to £140 including the service which they add automatically. Not a price that i would pay there again for the offerings and surroundings. Also toilets cramped & no hand soap. This place could be incredible with a few tweaks, however for us it’s not one that we’d return to unfortunately.

Went here to celebrate our wedding which was earlier in the year in Yorkshire. Wanted to have a family Sunday lunch. There were 16 off us. Chloe D'Arcy organised everything for us. We had a choice of menus. We decided on 3 starters 3 mains of which we chose 3 different roasts and a choice of 3 desserts and tea and coffee. We had a private room out the back of the restaurant, which we had sole use of. We were then able to sit in the courtyard afterwards for tea coffees and drinks. The service throughout the day could not be faulted. And everyone commented on how lovely the food was. We would highly recommended the George 1V. For meeting up with friends and family for lunch or evening meal. Five stars all round. An absolutely perfect day

Excellent food, friendly attentive motivated staff and they were very helpful in meeting my wife's dietary needs as a coeliac vegetarian even though we had not informed them in advance. We would definitely dine there again.

Visited today for brunch after seeing the excellent reviews on Tripadvisor. We were warmly welcomed and picked a table. I had the triple cheese and bacon toastie and my partner had the meaty cooked breakfast. Both were beautifully presented and very delicious. The coffee was very good. The staff were very friendly and engaged in conversation. I look forward to trying something different next time.

As by my self , I visited here for lunch this day . As usual I was Not Disappointed by my choice of food . Their home made ( by one of the owners ) Shepherds Pie is , I am tempted to say outstanding . The Minced Lamb therein was cooked just right , with a small amount of diced vegetables and gravy . The Mashed Potatoes on the top were soft and buttery . It comes with ( proper ) green cabbage and carrots , but I declined the Carrots . Plus a jug of thickish tasty gravy , that complimented the whole dish ! Although very busy this lunchtime , I did not have to wait too long for the freshly cooked to order food . Both the proprietors are friendly and make you feel welcome in their establishment . Well Recommended !!

Hi, my family and I visited Nando's Bishops Stortford on Friday 18th October at approximately 6.30pm. We are regular customers and have never been disappointed with the food until then. Upon clearing our plates, Isabelle asked us if everything was ok. I said that usually it is but I had found my chicken to be very dry. Isabelle said just, "Sorry", immediately turned to the next table and that was the end of our conversation. I wasn't looking for a discount on my bill but Isabelle's "customer service" left alot to be desired.

I’m sitting at the bar having a pint. I’ve also eaten here a few times and I think this place is brilliant. The staff a really friendly and the atmosphere is top notch.

Whenever we go, this place is always busy no matter what day or time. This is simply because of the quality of the service and products. today, we had a sandwich. Mine, chicken salad with onion marmalade was simply delicious (who would think of marmalade in a chicken salad sandwich)? The other sandwich was prawn salad which I'm told was also delicious. Both sandwiches were at least an inch thick and no, that was not mostly salad, but chicken and prawn. My cappuccino was simply lovely. Add to this the staff are always friendly and accommodating, what else can anyone want?
