Lovely meal this evening, a late Sunday lunch was an unexpected treat. No trouble getting a table, great service from our helpful server Ethan and lovely atmosphere. We’ve been a few times and always enjoy it here.

Jut stoped for a cup of tea on our journey. Staff friendly.

Neve served us, so happy and friendly. All of the food was amazing. Really good evening meal, reasonable price for the quality. Busy, best to book for large groups, but not rushed. Beautiful old pub.

Excellent restaurant!! Nice, typical English environment. Interesting menu, we had 2 starters and 2 meat dishes. All very good, including the welcome and the service. The beer is also good. We had a good time and were fully satisfied.

Disappointed in the burger I had, looked great but was bland.

We popped in after a long walk - and had a great dinner - food was gorgeous and reasonably priced

There was an issue with a parking charge but this has been kindly resolved by The George Inn.

The best gastropub between Bath and Bradford-on-Avon. The slow-cooked lamb shank shepherd's pie was absolute heaven.

Nice pub on the Kennet-von-Avon canal. Large indoor and outdoor area. The food and cider were good, the staff friendly and approachable. Great base for a little walk along the canal and Avon after/before a refreshment :)

We had a lovely meal for three on Saturday 10th August. The food was excellent, with decent portion size, and came quite quickly. Or waiter, Alex, was very helpful, attentive and friendly. The pub has a nice atmosphere, and a large car park.

Definitely had a good experience here but wouldn't say the food was amazing. I got the vegan Sunday roast and although the mushroom Wellington was really nice the rest of the dish was just alright. Great atmosphere though and I can't speak for the rest of the dishes on the menu.

Ate outside overlooking beautiful countryside. Great choice of food, tasty and well presented. Excellent service. Recommend.

Four of us and our dog stopped here for evening meal whilst on the canal. Staff welcoming, attentive and very helpful. Given it’s a chain pub food was excellent. Nice big garden with plenty of tables and umbrellas.

I've not marked the food as we had a great night with phenomenal food and a not so good one through no fault of the manager or establishment. Everything was sorted out hence the 5 star service and atmosphere. We were unlucky so a lower rating would not be fair.

Nice garden to sit and eat. Staff is most friendly and kind. Good portions and desserts are realy nice. I would recommend this pub to you!

I think the waitress name was Neeve, she was amazing so kind, always on top of things, felt really welcoming and made to feel a valued customer. Food was delicious and a reasonable priced.

The George has always had a great reputation; the building is beautiful and the staff friendly and professional. The food when it arrived was absolutely delicious but ..it was the smallest portion for a main course that I've ever seen. My friend and I don't eat much and had debated whether or not to go as far as ordering a main course, which would see us through the day. We both ordered the Garden Plot Medley, but were astonished to find three slices of courgette, a teaspoon of chickpeas, four cm squares of pepper and a little bit of pea hummous. I only wish I'd taken a picture. The handful of pea shoot garnish on the top was the largest thing on the plate. It was delicious, but a few mouthfuls and we'd finished. Very little food for a main course price; looked like a starter. Very disappointing.

Came in yesterday for a meal with my partner. The food was amazing, atmosphere great and our waitress Neve was just delightful, so efficient and attentive to the table. She made our experience so much better. She is a credit to the team. Thanks again Neve

Generous portions of food, cozy premises, nice garden with picnic benches for sunny days and really nice staff. We had smooth and very pleasant waiting by our waiter Neve 😊 The place is right by the Kennet&Avon canal, and it's lovely to moor right by the restaurant. We visited on two occasions and can recommend both fish & chips, sunday roast, sticky toffee pudding and the apple pie ☺️

Nice pub but a bit pricey. £31 for 4 drinks (large white, pint of cider, pint of shandy and bottle of beer)

It's in a tourist trap location otherwise it'd fail quickly. Locals never visit the pub because they know the food and service are shocking

Came in for dinner with my wife tonight and the team and food were excellent. Had steak and ale pie, and a sea bass. Paul, Bailey, Annabelle and Neve really made our experience great! I would recommend.

Came to Bath to see family and decided to go to The George for lunch as recommended by my Uncle. Lovely atmosphere and service, our waitress Evie was lovely and very helpful. All in all a wonderful experience and I will be sure to visit again!

Food was really good and excellent service.

Neve and Ethan gave fantastic service. Good food served quickly and hot. My only slight moan was the Rump Steak with the Mixed Grill was full of gristle and a little over cooked. Great location by the Kennet and Avon, a lovely looking pub and comfortable. Coped well with an our walk-in of 11 blokes.

We had a fantastic meal here. We had the gammon, squid and the chefs sharing board, beautiful food nicely presented. Our server izzy was wonderful she took our order and looked after us. Really friendly service. My brother and I had worked here 30 years ago and loved it, so it was great to come back and see it thriving 🙌 highly recommended 5⭐

Service exemplary from Georgie, food ok for pub food

After reading some very negative reviews about The George we didn't intend to go there on our canal walk, but decided to stop for a drink anyway. The menu looked good, the dog was made welcome, and the staff were friendly so we ordered lunch. My Vegetable Grill was superb! Plentiful, fresh hot roast vegetables and great fries and a vegetarian gravy as well. My husband reported the sausage and mash was very good too. Looks like The George has turned things around very well!

New to this area, had never been here before but the views and vibe of the restaurant was amazing. I cannot fault our waitress at all. Neve provided an outstanding service, very polite and accommodating. The establishment is lucky to have staff like that young lady, you don’t see hard workers often anymore! Thank you. **update to review**- have deducted 2 stars due to management. My husband has just made it known to me that when he went to the toilet he heard the manager being very rude to the staff working. The woman was being very harsh and calling the staff names despite the excellent service the staff members appeared to be showing. It is sad to hear this after the amazing experience we had here but I felt I had to voice this. I hope the staff members (like Neve) continue to show their excellent service and those above them learn to appreciate them better.

Fantastic!! The food was absolutely delicious and really lovely staff. Highly recommend the fish and chips! Fresh and crispy. Neve went above and beyond to find a particular whisky I like, unfortunately they didn’t have it so she recommended me another which was even better than what I had originally ordered! She also gave us some really good tips on sight seeing activities around the area. 10/10 Thankyou for a great visit

There's nothing like sevice with a smile, and this really just that.....nothing like service with a smile!!! We arrived and the first thing we were told "should go up the the road, they have a nicer outlook", the lady seving was very off. Then later, after a drink in the garden we went to ask where the table we had booked was so we could go sit, to be told "if you want drinks you're gonna have to order over there". The icing on the cake? The table waiting staff were miserable, not one single smile sewn from them at any table. Really not a welcoming pub at all, which is a shame as the food was decent.

Went today for a roast and it was really lovely. Our server Megan was great and really attentive, would definitely come back!

Great location. Right on the Avon Kennet Canal. Multiple outdoor seating and cozy indoor spaces. Very friendly service and typical pub dishes. You just have to accept that English people can't cook.

Service terrible, food somewhat lacklustre. Had the roast dinner, looked like they were running out of certain veg. Very disappointed

Very nice pub on the canal side. Great food with good veggie options. Very welcoming. Easy to sort out overnight campervan parking but don't forget to register. Lovely walk along the canal with the dogs.

Tables were very sticky and dirty, watched as customers cleaned their table before ordering food. Toilets were also very grubby puddles on floor probably not water! Not a place I'd want to eat in. Had a drink and left.

I’m not local and was recommended to come here. Peaches and Annabel were really friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. The food was great and the selection of drinks was above expectation. Thank you guys for making my visit, most enjoyable. Highly recommend

Found this beautiful place on the way to Bristol from Salisbury so we had to stop and try. Surrounded in beautiful views with ample seating inside and outside. We had coffee with complimentary cookies. They have their own parking. Would like to try their food some day.

Terrible service. Not a single member of staff greeted us the whole time. The food was even worse. We both had fish and chips. Greasy, tasteless fish. Tiny portion of frozen oven chips. Same for the onion rings. Cheap frozen garbage at extortionate prices. Mayonnaise on the side was fake. Some kind of vile mayonnaise substitute. Crystal white in colour and a strong taste of chemicals. What a drastic change since we last visited in 2018. Prices have gone up, quality and services have significantly dropped.

The George is not a bad pub but I really believe it is not living up to its full potential. The place is clean and has a traditional, welcoming setting. staff seem overworked and stressed - during the canal faire a few weeks ago they stopped serving food, apparently unprepared for the influx of customers despite it being an advertised event on their doorstep. They could probably use more outdoor seating as there is loads of room for it but only 6 or 7 tables.

Update a few days later. Well my last review was drinks only as we couldn't get in so on our return to the area (narrow boat holiday) we stopped and reserved for dinner. I'm do glad we did as it was an exceptional meal, pictures here, and we were so pleased we came back. Look out for Natalie she is an excellent waitress (although that term doesn't fully do her justice she was an asset any establishment would want) She advised us on all our meals, helped settle a Shakespeare question, made our friends feel special by making coffee how the Americans like it, put an American amount of ice in their drinks, I could go on in short whatever she is paid double it! She alone brings more money into this place than the owners could possibly know. We are well, drank nice drinks, lovely coffee and left very happy! What a great old pub, and it is proper old! Outside and seating right by the canal so handy if you are on a boat. But we couldn't eat so don't assume that because it's big you will get a table, we couldn't!

Lovely little pub a short walk from the place I'm staying, sun was out, so I sat in the garden

We enjoyed a lovely platter of food with great pints from a very good selection. Further drink was taken at the side of the Kennet and Avon canal which runs alongside the pub.

We popped in here for a early lunch and was left very disappointed. We had garlic mushrooms that were ok but lacking in sauce. But when the main came I couldn't believe it my roasted new potatoes were burnt the fish was OK but put us off staying for a desert.You could clearly see they were burnt they were black the fish was on top so didn't notice straight away. Why would you send that out to a table shocking.Then when we said about it they agreed they were burnt but just took the price of the starters off not the mains.

A great pub situated on the Avon and Kennet canal. We walked along the canal from Bath, which took just under an hour and was delightful. The George is a lovely place, very dog friendly, to stop for a pint and then enjoy the return walk into town. The picture is the Chef's grazing platter.

Dreadful breakfast. Bacon was cold and chewy. Eggs overdone. No butter on toast. Bearnaise sauce lumpy and sharp.

Waited to be served by the front entrance and had multiple servers pass by without being spoken to - after being advised to speak to us and the couple behind us by (presumably) the manager, a member of staff curtly advised the tables were fully booked, but about 80% of the building was empty. I hope that it was simply an off day for them!

Was given the wrong specials menu so missed having the salmon I would have preferred. Had seabass. Two very small fillets on a bed of roast new potatoes and a little broccoli. My meal was over before my companions had hardly started and cost the most. Excuse grudgingly given by the management for wrong menu was a broken printer. I saw the real one on the way out.

Super place to catch up with friends. Attentive service, but not pushy, gorgeous food and a lovely atmosphere. Just remember to scan the qrcode for the car park 🚗😊

Great pub. Great service. Dog friendly. Great food in theory - eggs benedict and breakfast. Just one hopefully constructive suggestion; don't leave so long between cooking and service. Was cooked to order but a bit tepid in places.

Always pop in here for a drink during a canal walk. Opens at 11am, which is very handy.

Food and service was terrible. Meal was warm, part of our order was missing but was on the bill, beef was full of fat, never once did the waitress ask if everything was OK. Will definitely not be returning and would not recommend
