George Inn Pub in Bath and North East Somerset

We enjoyed a really lovely lunch here on Valentine’s Day. Excellent food in a very relaxed and friendly environment, we were served by Sasha who allowed us to linger and looked after us very attentively.

We had a lovely meal. We sat near the fire which warmed us after a walk on the canal. The food was tasty with a good choice. It is very good value especially compared to the centre of Bath. The experience was made better by our great waitress Neve. She suggested foods and explained what was in them. She had a good balance of being around but not intrusive. She looked after us so well thank you

We visited on Weds evening in late January. The allergy calculator was the best we ever saw - 2 people in our party have several allergies. The calculator and staff (thank you Peaches) were very knowledgeable which resulted in a fantastic meal and no problems either with allergies. Highly recommend.

Booked a table for 1.45 Sunday lunch catch up get together. Ordered two burgers two trio roasts with a salad de of cauliflower cheese honey sesame sausages pigs in blankets (we did bring a dog hence the sausage sides) our food came but not all together burgers first then roasts and high had to go back as they were stone cold only to come back much the same even after a microwave reheat we then got our sides 10 minutes later George our server was very apologetic even embarrassed saying the kitchen had a walk out so short staffed we decided a pudding would be nice big mistake as this took a further 30 minutes. Lovely venue big up to George but not so the food will think twice about returning.

We visited with two persons in our party with wide ranging food allergies. The attention to detail and the allergy app were just amazing - as of course was the food. A big thank you to Peaches for the professioanl service.

We thought the advertising for a four course Robert Burns meal priced £28 looked appealing.We stood at the sign in the pub which said.Wait here for a member of staff.Someone after a while asked us what we were doing.I nearly said we were delivering shoe's.We should have left then.Seated we waited and waited eventually we were ask would we like a drink we waited asking were our drinks were,we should have left then.After one and half hours all we had was a small bowl of soup.Which i had to remove the plates onto another table when we were finished.We asked for the meal twice.We couldn't take any more.As we were leaving the person who was supposed to be servering us whispered to my partner and I quote.Will he calm down if we bring his meal out.I hadn't even said anything.At this point a plate of Haggis and Neeps would not have calmed the snarling beastie down We paid for the drinks and laughed about that all the way home.Nothing shall entice us back again to The George at Bathampton. We did go to the Indian restaurant in Box for a curry on the home.Very nice it was too.

Went to have some lunch but menu rather limited, ok if you like bread rools etc, didn't enjoy my lunch. Pot of tea ordered when it arrived it didn't have any tea bags in it buy the time my meal arrived the tea was cold. Wouldn't recommend

We visit the George Inn on a regular basis when visiting Bath. All the staff are very friendly and we are normally looked after by Peaches who is always very helpful, gives us quick service and is very accommodating with food preferences. The food is always great and normally comes quickly. We still got our food piping hot even during a powercut in one of the December storms. Thoroughly recommend the pub. Gammon and chips is always a big hit.

Great pub with lots of atmosphere. Good selection of beers, Sunday lunch was excellent and Annabel, our waitress made us feel very welcome and looked after us so well. Will definitely be going back

We visited this pub last Sunday for a rib roast, and it was absolutely incredible! From the moment we walked in, the warm and inviting ambiance set the tone for a perfect meal. The pub has a charming and cozy vibe, making it an ideal spot for a relaxing Sunday. The rib roast was cooked to perfection—juicy, tender, and packed with flavor. The accompanying sides were equally impressive, with fluffy Yorkshire puddings, perfectly roasted potatoes, and a rich, velvety gravy that tied everything together beautifully. You can tell a lot of care goes into their food, and it certainly shows. The service was top-notch as well. The staff were attentive, friendly, and made us feel truly welcomed. They ensured our glasses were never empty and checked in just the right amount without being intrusive. All in all, team delivered a five-star experience, and we can’t wait to return. Beautiful listed building, fantastic food, warm cozy atmosphere in winter, and beautiful walks and views along the canal in summer Super efficient kitchen, friendly staff. Don't rush, just sit back and enjoy

Just went in for a drink after a stroll by the canal. The IPA was very nice as was the mulled wine (it's 16th Dec) 2024 update: good food, service was a bit slow (they seemed a bit understaffed), but this was not a problem as we were not in a hurry. Will go there again.

What a wonderful experience. Warm welcome, exceptional service and the food was A1. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. Will be back as it was so good.

Drove almost an hour to visit the George inn, mill lane & won’t be visiting again. They weren’t serving food when we arrived so we brought drinks & waited the hour before we could order food which wasn’t a big deal. After a okay meal & some drinks whilst catching up with a friend we decided to head home & payed for our food & tipped the bar lady. Only to receive a £100 fine in the post a week or so later for parking in the George inns car park they have for their customers. Apparently you have only a few hours in the car park even if you’re a paying customer & in their establishment the whole time spending money. Don’t bother go somewhere else where you’re welcome & can be comfortable spending money without a time limit with a £100 fine over your head. Disgusting. You have permanently lost a customers Because of this.

This is a lovely pub, next to the canal. The staff were fantastic, very friendly and helpful. The food is great and reasonably priced, will definitely be back!

Quality pub food in a great ambiance alongside the canal. Well worth a visit and it's big so you are likely to find a space, but to be safe you can book. The tarmac tow path is along the Kennet and Avon canal and makes half hour walk from Bath to Bathampton.

Very good Sunday lunch. Excellent short rib on the bone. Good small wine selection.

Didn’t manage to eat or drink, as we wondered in mid afternoon on a weekday and only one person running the whole restaurant. He was fairly blunt and turned us away for food. So can’t comment on that. Highly recommend booking in advance. So we thought to order some hot drinks as was a cold day. I can’t do dairy, and so asked for an oat based coffee, but they didn’t have any plant based milk in stock. Nor any herbal teas. I get that they’re a pub-restaurant, but in the year 2024, that they have no plant milk is crazy to me. Not hard to stock a carton of it. Men’s toilets were out of order. We’re in our thirties and maybe the general clientele is a bit older, but I was hoping for bit more modern culture from this place. Hasn’t made me desperate to go back. I would say that a place that doesn’t stock oat milk isn’t very vegan or veggie friendly.

The George was once a favourite eatery when we lived in the area. We moved away twenty years ago but no we're back in the UK and this was our first visit but won't be our last. Welcome was friendly, service was attentive and professional and the food was tasty and filling.

Absolutely shocking. Went for a roast with the family, turned up, 7 settings around a table for 4. Drinks were painfully slow to arrive and then all came out wrong. After waiting an hour and 10 minutes for the roast they all came out freezing cold. One was reheated in the microwave so the beef was like leather and the Yorkshire literally turned to powder when you touched it. Don't think I've ever had such a bad roast dinner. The poor waiter was working his first shift, he did an amazing job considering it was clear he'd had no training and was thrown in the deep end. After talking to some locals it would seem like this is a standard Sunday. Avoid like the plague, not worth the time or money.

Friendly, not rushed, amazing building

It was a quiet winter weekday so atmosphere is always going to be subdued. Whilst the food was nice I feel for the price more effort could have been made. For example, my Sirloin steak would have been better served with mushrooms and peas rather than a couple of sliced radishes and a small pile of cress. The steak was of good quality but unfortunately it came as medium rather than medium-rare. The lady serving was friendly and efficient and the food came promptly.

We stopped off for coffee and hot chocolate - delicious! Many local people eating. Close proximity to the Kennet & Avon canal. Friendly Manager and waiter.

Came here for a drink coming back from Stonehenge and staying in Bath. Nice location, nice pub as part of Greene King family. Thanks to the nice lady behind the bar who served us on 30th October evening. The pub has few fire places and several rooms, pretty cosy in autumn evenings.

Food very good, service excellent (although they didn't have any bolt cutters when we'd locked ourselves out of our boat LOL), atmosphere good but not many people in on a wet Sunday night. I would go again.

First time here as was just passing through. The older blond woman behind the bar wasn't very cheerful or good at greeting. Very basic customer service. Bar was nice and clean, good selection of drinks and the food that passed by looked amazing.

Nicely laid out pub and good atmosphere. Happy with a cozy table but Table 16 was a bit confined and one of the chairs on the slope of the floor meant one of us was almost leaning into the table which was not comfortable. Booked a week in advance so disappointed to get one of the presumably less popular tables. Fish and Chips were very good. Peas pretty dreadful and the watercress garnish with the Pork terrine could not have been more limp. Service very friendly and Rico could not have been nicer. Food needs more attention and got a bit too much of a feeling of 1980s pub food standard.

Three of us arrived for Friday evening supper. Young but very attentive serving staff, who looked after us beautifully. We started with the sharers board with a side of the crispy chicken. This was followed by a signature burger which was well cooked, good onion rings and crispy chips. We also had the fish and chips, we decided to have the extra bread and butter and scampi, we probably wouldnt do that again. The fish was tasty and well cooked. The final meal was the smothered chicken. This was rather over cooked and dry but a good flavour. I probably just had bad luck. The pub is welcoming and you are always comfortable there. It suits all ages, the parking is good the location is amazing. I would certainly recommend it.

Just went in for drinks mid-afternoon; not sure if the staff were under a lot of pressure. It didn't seem busy but a few of them came across and little short and grumpy. Drinks were fine and we enjoyed them in the sunshine outside.

I love this pub so much, firslty it is in the most beautiful area ever on the Kennet and Avon Canal, the views and vibe is awesome, secondly the people including Ben, Eico, Geogina, Neve, Isla and Mark (hope I got your names ok) are them most amazing wonderful, friendly staff you could ever wish for, they are also the most intellegent people destined for greatness :) the food is great, the pub is great I am not sure why people give bad reviews - must be a reflection on themselves to be honest :) Rob is so lovely too - Thank you all for being so lovely xxx

Always pop in here for a drink during a canal walk. Opens at 11am, which is very handy.

Very poor food at inflated prices ran out of drinks wouldn't recommend eating or drinking here however the guy that served us was very apologetic. If want nice food go to the Bathampton Mill

The roast dinner was very tasty, with kids’ portions being generous and comparable to adult sizes. The staff were friendly and attentive, cosy atmosphere. The parking was easy with plenty of space. I would highly recommend it!

A nice pub with outdoor area, great location so it's a shame that the landlord/boss was consistantly rude to all his (young) staff which I didn't like, there is no need to speak to people like this when asking them to do something or if they ask a question - especially in front of customers. I was told to 'get out of the way' at one end of the bar whilst waiting for a drink. I wouldn't go back here. Was not made to feel welcome and ok food.

Really excellent Sunday lunch, the only reason for 4 not 5 stars, to be very fussy, was the Yorkshire puddings - flat as a pancake! Our waitress Sasha went out of her way to make our visit enjoyable, 5 star waitress

Our main meals were delicious although could be hotter. Dessert and coffee also good. Lovely waitress named Layla who although being new was a gem. Very quiet but maybe trade picks up on an evening.

After a holiday in France. We celebrated our friends birthday here. The steak was a superb piece of beef and cooked to perfection. Very happy as you know the French don't eat rubbish food however in a direct comparison this was simply delicious.

My wife and I had a really lovely dinner here last night. Both our steaks were cooked to perfection and the staff were very attentive. We'd have loved to try the dessert selection but were too full!

Visited twice this week had a wonderful Sunday lunch (rib of beef was delicious) Young Ethan was very attentive and looked after us very well, so we just had to go back midweek and again we were not disappointed, Peaches and young Rico were both great hosts and five stars to the chef on his first night there. Wish we lived closer

Ended up here by chance. Service all nice. Pleasant English decor, some waiting time due to many guests - but that was certainly no problem. Food was also fine. We were able to park comfortably in front of the restaurant, which is nice because of the busy road next to it.

Lovely meal this evening, a late Sunday lunch was an unexpected treat. No trouble getting a table, great service from our helpful server Ethan and lovely atmosphere. We’ve been a few times and always enjoy it here.

Excellent restaurant!! Nice, typical English environment. Interesting menu, we had 2 starters and 2 meat dishes. All very good, including the welcome and the service. The beer is also good. We had a good time and were fully satisfied.

Disappointed in the burger I had, looked great but was bland.

There was an issue with a parking charge but this has been kindly resolved by The George Inn.

The best gastropub between Bath and Bradford-on-Avon. The slow-cooked lamb shank shepherd's pie was absolute heaven.

Nice pub on the Kennet-von-Avon canal. Large indoor and outdoor area. The food and cider were good, the staff friendly and approachable. Great base for a little walk along the canal and Avon after/before a refreshment :)

We had a lovely meal for three on Saturday 10th August. The food was excellent, with decent portion size, and came quite quickly. Or waiter, Alex, was very helpful, attentive and friendly. The pub has a nice atmosphere, and a large car park.

Definitely had a good experience here but wouldn't say the food was amazing. I got the vegan Sunday roast and although the mushroom Wellington was really nice the rest of the dish was just alright. Great atmosphere though and I can't speak for the rest of the dishes on the menu.

Four of us and our dog stopped here for evening meal whilst on the canal. Staff welcoming, attentive and very helpful. Given it’s a chain pub food was excellent. Nice big garden with plenty of tables and umbrellas.

I've not marked the food as we had a great night with phenomenal food and a not so good one through no fault of the manager or establishment. Everything was sorted out hence the 5 star service and atmosphere. We were unlucky so a lower rating would not be fair.

Nice garden to sit and eat. Staff is most friendly and kind. Good portions and desserts are realy nice. I would recommend this pub to you!

The George has always had a great reputation; the building is beautiful and the staff friendly and professional. The food when it arrived was absolutely delicious but ..it was the smallest portion for a main course that I've ever seen. My friend and I don't eat much and had debated whether or not to go as far as ordering a main course, which would see us through the day. We both ordered the Garden Plot Medley, but were astonished to find three slices of courgette, a teaspoon of chickpeas, four cm squares of pepper and a little bit of pea hummous. I only wish I'd taken a picture. The handful of pea shoot garnish on the top was the largest thing on the plate. It was delicious, but a few mouthfuls and we'd finished. Very little food for a main course price; looked like a starter. Very disappointing.

Generous portions of food, cozy premises, nice garden with picnic benches for sunny days and really nice staff. We had smooth and very pleasant waiting by our waiter Neve 😊 The place is right by the Kennet&Avon canal, and it's lovely to moor right by the restaurant. We visited on two occasions and can recommend both fish & chips, sunday roast, sticky toffee pudding and the apple pie ☺️

It's in a tourist trap location otherwise it'd fail quickly. Locals never visit the pub because they know the food and service are shocking

Incredible food and service. Also had chats worth locals. Overall great experience!

Came in for dinner with my wife tonight and the team and food were excellent. Had steak and ale pie, and a sea bass. Paul, Bailey, Annabelle and Neve really made our experience great! I would recommend.

Came to Bath to see family and decided to go to The George for lunch as recommended by my Uncle. Lovely atmosphere and service, our waitress Evie was lovely and very helpful. All in all a wonderful experience and I will be sure to visit again!
