Delicious food, beautifully presented, nice selection

Used to pop in regularly for a few drinks and have eaten a few times too. Recently the place has looked shabby especially the toilets where you can find loose taps in the ladies and a seat hanging off in the beds and generally unclean Apparently it will be closing soon and at this rate won't be a miss

On a short stay in Sandwich, Kent I popped in the George and Dragon which seems a nice local pub/restaurant and asked if they catered for Gluten free, coeliac. The lady showed me the menu and said that there was only two options I could not have and they could adapt any other dish and served gf bread. Later on we visited for an evening meal. After ordering two wines we were given a menu. I explained about being coeliac and to cut a long story short the manager spoke to the chef and there was nothing or no attempt to adaptations or make any offering ie chips, gravy etc which meant no options on the menu, computBasically we finished our wines and had to find somewhere else. So the motto of this review is if you have coeliac or require gluten free food and you see the George and Dragon , then keep on walking.

My partner and I went for lunch today, no waiting staff just one chef and a guy behind the bar. Restaurant was empty and after ten minutes with no-one appearing, we left! This has always been a good place for lunch and excellent food, what a shame it has gone downhill.

Really homely roast very fairly priced. Staff whilst nice not as attentive as other places and I has a hard time trying to book / confirm. I would say that we both really enjoyed a no frills very nice pie roast

Google searches for dog friendly restaurants while in Sandwich and this came up. The food was fantastic and staff were brilliant. Would highly recommend!!

No Disaronno then run out of spice rum after 1 shot. Forget to bring my beer to the table. Ordered 2 burger and chips still did not come after 40 minutes of waiting. Got told it was coming 15 minutes before. Got feed up with waiting and they were not happy we left ! Big same as it used to be an amazing pub !

Just been to George & Dragon this weekend after visiting 5 months ago (which was very good). A bit disappointed especially as we had recommended to our friends. Firstly quite cold in the restaurant. Didn't feel that organised and not very attentive. Food was ok, burgers a bit burnt around the outside, pie was nice, tagliatelle was oily and luke warm as had been sitting waiting to get served. Toilets a bit uncared for. Shame as all-in all a bit disappointed, need to get back to higher standards.

Food is absolutely amazing! Service was slow and the 2 servers didn't seem to be working well together and it was a long wait for drinks. After asking for the bill and waiting half an hour we made our way to the front to pay and got a short shift by the waitress as she was "busy" As I said the food is fantastic but the service with a smile needs some work.

A cosy and intimate pub. The food was very good and the noise level was comfortable. The staff were quick to take our orders and bring our food.

Had a Xmas dinner here, the steak was amazing. Our group was relatively big but service was good.

Firstly, this is a 15th century pub and is beautiful inside. We have had lunch and drinks in here before but never dinner. There were 8 of us, 4 couples, and we all had 3 courses. Every course was lovely, I had the scotch egg which had lovely runny yolk, followed by cod and chips which was MASSIVE ! The batter was crispy and the skin on fried perfectly cooked. The pub offers great value for money, for 3 courses and 1 drink each we paid about £35 each, the staff were excellent, special mention to Poppy who was our server. It didn't appear particularly friendly & the beer was ok but limited, used to go a few years ago and I'm sure they had a better range of drinks then.

We love this pub!!! The staff are amazing here! So attentive! The food is ALWAYS so good! We’ve never had a bad meal here! And the portion sizes are fantastic! Best pub in sandwich!!!

Popped in for a traditional Sunday roast on a wet Sunday in October. Great food, good service and very reasonable prices Will definitely return

Amazing best pie ever in my whole life

Booked for a Sunday lunch with a group of friends. Food was spot on, plenty of meat and veg, (beef was fantastic) served with a huge boat of gravy. Service was friendly, and the staff were really busy but still attentive. We had a great table "downstairs", which was like a private dining room. Dog friendly and good selection of beers.

A lovely meal out - food was great, service was good and price was extremely reasonable. Starters - pate and calamari Mains - smoked haddock mac and cheese with garlic bread ❤️ and pie of the day (chicken, bacon and leek)

Looking for local cuisine I chose the George and Dragon and couldn’t have done better. Different options from the staple burgers etc and the mussel and bacon chowder washed down with a pint of cider was fantastic.

The food was just okay. The fish and chips really should be just that. Brown chips with skins on that taste very sweet really dont compliment beer battered cod. Just give normal everyday chips...theyre always a winner. When we asked for the wine list the laminated A4 sheet really didnt need to glide across the table!!! A simple hand to hand would have been suffice. The service was a tad rushed during our evening meal. We were still finishing up when a staff member sat at the next table sorting out till receipts. Abit off putting. We always tip good service. We didn't tip at the George & Dragon.

Initial welcome was fairly warm. I had requested a particular table but no mention was made of this and another family were already seated there. The waitress was attentive before and during meal. The food was quite basic but very good value. Vegetables as a side would have been welcome. Our food was delivered to us very quickly which was a plus. The bill was given to us before we asked for it, which we thought a bit rude. However, our main problem was before we were ready to go, the waitress stacked all the chairs onto the tables around us. It made us feel really unwelcome and uncomfortable. I have never experienced this before, anywhere! The pub closes at 11pm and this was a while before 10pm

Food, service, ambience first class. Many excellent choices on the menu and food was delivered promptly.

We went here for a family celebration after researching the pub menus in Sandwich the week previously. The food, service, and atmosphere were spot on. Oh, and the ale was good too. I'll be back!

Good beer but hardly any snacks at 4pm and the loos were in a poor state.

We always have superb food, wines and service at the G snd D - fresh, local food - excellent establishment.

Lovely lunch here in the pretty courtyard yesterday. My husband said that his burger was the best that he had had recently. My friend and I chose the pie of the day - chicken, ham and leek, which was absolutely full of meat. The waitresses were charming and very attentive to my dog which was nice. All in all, a great experience.

Had a fab meal with friends. All had a different main course but we all said how tasty everything was and NOT overpriced for a change! Puds were good too. Staff were friendly and attentive. Thank you 👍 Will be visiting again.

fabulous fppd, service and ambiance - the George and Dragon Sandwich is excellent. we are regulars and the G and D Sandwuch has never let us down. highly recommended! this evening we had sea bass with all tne trimmings and my hisband had homemade steak pie- ditto. menu so good was gard t8 choose!

Lovely gastro pub. The food was excellent

Went here on a recommend as a dog friendly place to get a good meal and it certainly lived up to expectations. What a great atmosphere, so welcoming, cross between a friendly pub and a fine dinning experience but without the fussiness. The menu is so varied, with different types of curries alongside steak and fish, with fabulous rustic chips. Portion size was very good that ensured value for money against the price tag. Highly recommended as place to visit in the quaint backstreets of Sandwich.

Delicious food and reasonably priced. This is a friendly little pub with a tasty traditional menu. The portions are huge, We had the pie which was a wedge from a large pie, rich and moist with just the right amount of meat and mushrooms. The mashed potatoes were buttery and the vegetables served separately were a great addition. Also extra gravy without having to ask. The only issue I had was being directed to a table by a back door when there were other free tables in much cosier spots. Needless to say I asked for one of those but did feel for the table next to the door as people were coming and going to drinking tables outside and it was a cool night. Other than that some missing meringue from the Eton mess which was quickly resolved caused a laugh with the staff and us so all good fun. Definitely recommended,we will be going back.

Nice classic pub in Sandwich. Really nice staff and locals.

Service was excellent. Starter, calamari was delicious. The chicken, ham and leek pie was not good. Good chunks of chicken, not much flavour and the sauce was gelatinous to the point of being blancmange consistency. I would not have served that at home. We were hungry so we ate it. It was very expensive for a not great meal over all and small portions across the board. Very dog friendly, always a bonus.

Unfortunately the George and Dragon has changed hands. The food is not of the same quality. Bookers? The kitchen is not as skilled. After years of having wonderful food here I was very disappointed and deeply saddened.

Awful service, food took forever to arrive... Which resulted in my husband having too many beers and I had to drive!! Food tasted liked it had been microwaved with no flavour.

The food, beer ,service and restaurant was amazing. We found it by accident after coming to sandwich by train. I would highly recommend this place.

The George & Dragon looked closed as we approached with the menu missing from the frame on the wall outside and the door closed despite being warm and sunny. However we were pleasantly surprised that when we opened the door the space was bright and airy and felt clean and had a “modern rustic” feel… The drinks selection was quite small but the menu was appealing. We were not looking for a large lunch and opted for a sausage sandwich which was presented on a board with tomatoes and pea shoots, and was complete with a smattering of English mustard in seeded brown bread. We certainly intend to return for a full, cooked dinner at some point.

What a disappointment limited menu poor quantity food fish had lots of bones, triple cooked chips were skin on dark brown very uninviting , Husband had the burger pink in the centre , risotto not good , won’t be back

Lovely food but the service was a bit haphazard

Great little boozer recommended by our Band B host. Superb food, superb beer and very friendly locals. Can’t recommend this place too highly! It’s slightly off the beaten track and takes some finding, but search it out - you will not be disappointed!

Great food and good beers, just perfect

George and dragon easily catered for our party of 12 for Mother’s Day 2023, food was cooked to perfection, service was outstanding, clean, tidy and friendly. Definitely recommend this place!! 👌👌

Very comfortable pub - we had a lovely 2 course meal with friends at £18 for 2 courses and the portions were generous, atmosphere relaxed. Unfortunately I did suffer a bit due to gluten cross contamination - but I am highly sensitive.

It's a place a little hidden from the rest of the sandwich village, more discreet, more cozy, intimate than the other pubs in the area. More select too. Very pleasant atmosphere. I went there to have a beer without eating. The restaurant and the kitchen seem well above average, to try next time. Friendly welcome

Starter - Soy sauce and ginger wings. Delicious. Main - Steak. Very generous helping, and we'll cooked. Nearly couldn't fit in a dessert, but then... Biscoff cheesecake. Really lovely. Good wine as well. Staff were friendly. All in all a good, reasonably priced evening.

Great pub owned by the same couple that own the Zetland Arms the pub is located on sandwich and gas a great feel when you walk in good selection of beers and the food is very good

We had never eaten here before. Service was excellent from the beginning. A small glitch was sorted out by Waitress and our table prepared. The food was excellent. Three of us had roast chicken and one had pork. And the sticky toffee pudding was delicious

My friends and I walked from Deal to Sandwich in terrible weather. We stumbled across the George and Dragon and were so thrilled that we did. The pie and mash was exactly what we needed. Delicious food and great service.

Lovely little old pub, tucked down a back street of Sandwich. Have had the homemade chicken pie previously, which was good and had lovely, good quality sausage sandwich this time. Definitely going back for the fish and chips which looked amazing. I don't eat pork but the pork belly looked pretty fabulous too. Good service from friendly staff.

This pub restaurant is very pretty situated in a quiet street in Sandwich. Service was good and attentive. There was a good buzz in the place. The main course of fish and chips was not fit for purpose. The fish was in a terrible condition....

Always a great welcome very pleasant staff

We booked a table for six persons, and were welcomed through the door. The menu was traditional bar food, all home cooked by a team of chefs conscientiously working on their kitchen. We went for soups starters, pork ‘doorstep’ chops & chicken ham and leek pies for mains, with a range of crafted puddings for those with enough room for afters. Our hostess was professionally attentive for the duration of our dining experience. I can confidently declare this as the finest pub food I have had this century; thoroughly recommended. Vic

Very impressed! It was our 2nd visit for Sunday lunch and again we were not disappointed, fantastic staff, friendly and helpful, and plenty of delicious food. Highly recommend.

Don't be fooled by the sample menu on the website, as it bears little or no relationship to what's available on the chalkboard in the pub! Having said that, the kitchen produced three hearty and tasty meals for a reasonable price and the staff were friendly.

Second visit within the month, same as first. Great service & choice of food (all agreed). We love our food and praise isn't given lightly! Courtyard dining was a bonus too.

I dragged a suitcase into this pub in the naive belief I was staying there - having totally misremembered the name of my pub hotel. The two female dog walkers who showed me the way deserve thanks - because this is a cracking, atmospheric pub....
