Gelarto - Artisan Ice Cream Boutique in West Berkshire

7 keen workers needed a treat so we booked a table for lunch and had the most wonderful, seriously wonderful Pizza's. Everyone was saying it was one of the best pizza's we have ever had. Ice cream and pimms all super. Thanks Team Lusso!

Naughty but nice Friendly staff. Interesting flavoured ice cream I had Honeycomb and Salted Caramel.

We sat outside for a bit pf Al Fresco dining during the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme. As a group of 5 we all had a nice relaxed and entertaining night. Very friendly and attentive service from all that looked after us with a lively starter of mixed meat platter, followed by handmade pizzas and finished off with 3 scoop sundaes. All in all a nice experience with a bill which was not too bad as we benefitted from £50 off the due to the Gov't scheme.

We ate outdoors twice, just before and at the start of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme. It’s ideally located for eating outdoors, what with Covid19 precautions, as the passing pedestrian traffic is minimal and of course no passing vehicles, which makes for a nice ambience. We’ve eaten at this restaurant numerous times before so knew what to expect. The service was very attentive, courteous, competent and confident. The pizzas we ordered were an authentic Italian style, tasted very good and very reasonable value, given the choice, quality of ingredients and cooking. I’m impressed with the constantly changing variety of excellent and delicious home-made gelato ice cream. Overall a much better quality, service, value and experience than most chains. As always the test is would I visit again. Absolutely.

Visited with the intention of having a takeaway Ice cream, but were enticed in by the mouth watering Pizzas being served. Seated really quickly, by very helpful waiting staff. The food service and venue were great and I would highly recommend the Pizza which is made to order fresh within full view. We also did manage an Ice cream which did not disappoint. We will definitely be back.

Small place with big tables and bench chairs, perfect for those large families. The pizzas are amazing, and definitely the best in town. Thin crisp base delicious and toppings all freshly made. Their many homemade gelatos are delicious too. The staff are so helpful and attentive, great service.

Been there a few times and always brilliant. Pizzas are absolutely brilliant, also the garlic bread. So good always eat more than I should, but worth it is so nice. Definitely going back - it's our go to place for family eating out and to take visiting friends.

Went for a big family celebration, 14 people with age range 6-86; excellent food, (pizza, ice cream, starters all outstanding), great friendly service. Thoroughly recommended.

We went to my favourite place to go out with our 2 & 7 year old girls for my birthday with my other half’s parents. I love this place because they are so relaxed with children, they have kids colouring books & pens & the 2 year old can just get down & walk about as it’s very safe & cosy, I can keep an eye on her & no one bats an eyelid! This place is fantastic with yummy home cooked food, excellent service & of course their scrummy home made ice creams & sorbets. This meal was even more enjoyable than usual because all the staff were their usual super friendly selves to us & our girls but one lady in particular was just over & above awesome with our 2 year old. She encouraged her to eat her food with the promise of ice cream & she took her off to choose it. She also noticed when I was struggling to eat because the 2 year old was being a pickle & carried her off to distract her for me (she always asked my permission to pick her up & take her off by the way!). This lady was just so wonderful & caring & my usual shy 2 year old with strangers really took to her. The other fab lady also knew it was my birthday & surprised me with a candle in my dessert - this place is just brilliant to go to as they really care about your experience there & nothing is too much trouble. You must go!

Went for dinner with family. This was the best pizza I have had in a very long time! The restaurant is cosy, staff lovely and food excellent. Italian gelato to die for! I had basil infused lemon, delicious! Will definitely be going back!!!

We went for a combined 40th and 60th on a Saturday night. The staff were very friendly and attentive at all times. The Pizzas were the best we have ever had anywhere (and we are big foodies). I would highly recommend this place. Thank you Lusso for a fabulous evening.

Love this place. Fresh cooked pizza with a great range of options including vegan. And amazing ice creams (or vegan sorbets) for dessert. Small, cosy & friendly. Nice to sit outside when the weather is nice too.

They can't do anything about the weather to be fair, and the greeting we received was welcoming and friendly. Thebolave looks nice and clean and despite being quite small felt roomy and airy. They had some reasonable drinks including a nice british ale but they are marked up at the higher end of the cost spectrum. All 4 of us ordered pizza and all four of us were a little disappointed. I had a mushroom and blue cheese, which cost £14 and the mozzarella on top was cold and had made the pizza soggy as it had retained the liquid. Could have been the mushrooms but it was a gooey mess in the middle, and you kind of had to ball up pieces into a fork to eat it. The toppings were quite sparse and I just felt that whilst the restaurant was nice and the staff friendly, it was expensive and not that great. Pizza express, Ask and even dominos do a better pizza .

This little place serves the best pizza in Newbury. They also do great ice cream. If you like either of these foodstuffs, you should make a beeline for the place. It's pretty much as simple as that. Plus, you get that warm, slightly smug feeling when your money goes to an independent, local business as opposed to a chain.

Whilst doing a bit of late Saturday shopping in nearby Newbury my wife and I, with our two teenage sons agreed to eat out. Where shall we go? Partial to Italian food, our regular over the years has been PizzaExpress, which has never failed. Our youngest suggested Lusso as an alternative. He had been there recently with and friend and his family, whilst on a sleepover. He said the pizzas were great and the ice creams were even better. He wasn’t wrong. It’s quite a small place, hidden in Weavers Walk, just off the main shopping drag (Northbrook St). However, it has an authentic Italian charm. We we’re lucky as a table of 4 was free, only for an hour as it was booked later. This was plenty of time to have an authentic pizza (as good as I’ve had in Italy) a couple of Italian beers and some delicious homemade ice cream. My wife had a goats cheese salad, which she said was delightful. They also have burgers, which looked really good. There seemed to be a couple of birthday parties going on, which is unsurprising as the place seems ideal for a special family treat. The service was excellent and friendly and our meal was good value too. A great alternative to PizzaExpress with more authenticity!

Ok so the waffles and pancakes and ice cream are great and my kids love going here for a treat but really the service and ambience could be a lot better

I suppose it was the visible range of amazing ice creams that enticed us to stop. Then we say the pizzas being delivered to the outside tables. No contest we had to go in for lunch.

Nos fuimos para nuestra primera visita a Gelarto para cenar. El lugar es pequeño y está un poco iluminada para mi gusto, pero tenía un ambiente agradable como a pesar de que era un jueves había un par de otros comensales. El menú es bastante limitado, pero es un pequeño restaurante. Todos tuvimos pizza y las pizzas eran bastante buenas. Eran un poco más gruesos de pizzas Pizza express pero las coberturas eran frescos y sabrosos y había un montón de ellas. Estaban bien de precio de alrededor de £10. Teníamos dos postres. El helado era excelente. Tuve la tarta fondant de chocolate, que era bastante normalito y no un servicio de dis el acompañamiento de helados. También compramos unas copas de vino. La casa roja fue un merlot, así que no es de mi gusto, lo que significaba que tenía que pagar 6 libras por un 175 ml de vidrio, que creo que es bastante caro. No ofrecen la opción de una medida de 250 ml. Por esa razón no voy a volver para la cena, pero no dudaría en recomendar el helado. Es una pena, ya que sería realmente bueno para apoyar un negocio bien gestionado independiente pero, en mi opinión, tienen caras sus vinos.

The ice cream here is like no other - it tastes so much like the flavour it's meant to be, and there are so many varieties - highly recommend!

A great location on the high street with lovely staff but the ice cream is just ok and in my opinion not worth the extra cost vs other places.

Great Ice-cream. Grownup flavours. More pricey than a Mr whippy but less than a cup of coffee and much more satisfying. We decided to grab one after lunch (at one of the many Italians) instead of desert at the restaurant. This ended up being the cheaper option and we got to enjoy the afternoon sun whilst strolling with our yummy treats and window shopping.I love cherry and I love cheesecake. OMG they had cherry cheesecake Ice-cream with tiny bits of biscuity shortcake goodness. DELICIOUS. Looking forward to my next visit

Delicious ice cream with different and intriguing flavours. The best thing is you're welcome to try before you buy. I highly recommend the mint & choc chip... It's to die for!

Just love the different flavours offered - always changing and they are happy for you to have a taste before you buy. Good value for money. Can't wait for their new place to open.

This may not be a restaurant but it deserves it's place in this list. Can seldom walk past this van as the ice creams are out of this world. My favourite is the Salted Caramel with the Coffee running a close second. Then this week I had a taste of their new Walnut ice cream and am now going to be horribly torn on my next visit (which will be tomorrow!). I do not understand the person who complained about the price, £2.20 for a cone is not dear and though it is described as 'one scoop' their scoop obviously bears no relation to the norm as these ice creams are large. Highly recommended.

Amazing ice cream and great service but very pricey, great range of flavours and good clean van it's only the price that's not amazing and I do appreciate its a hand made item. That's my only fault with this place

The salted caramel ice cream is to die for, white chocolate and coconut ice cream not bad either! I think a series of return visits is required to work through the menu!

Love this ice cream ...... fabulous flavous; unusual and definitely artisan for an ice cream van! However, I would love this to be a bit bigger (the business, not the size of the ice cream!) as I know they would do gorgeous ice cream based drinks! ...... but I know they do really well as they are! It's quirky and lovely to see so many people walking the main street of Newbury with one of their ice creams ...... a tasty reminder of summer!

I wasn't sure if an Ice Cream Van qualifies to be in Tripadvisor's top ten restaurants in Newbury, so I had to go and give it a go. I was offered a free sample which was delicious and ended up buying a 2 scoop portion fro my partner and a 3 scoop portion fro myself. Our portions appeared similar in size, but they may have pushed more ice cream down into my cone. Unlike many ice cream parlors and vans these day, the ice cream had plenty of flavor and was silky and creamy. Whilst the Artisan Ice Cream Boutique doesn't offer the same large variety of Gelato Joe's (Newbury), their quality is far superior. I would give this little ice cream van a 5 out of 5 if not for 2 reasons. Firstly and most importantly, ice cream is a high risk food and the Food Standards Agency have awarded them 4 out of 5 stars (Food Hygiene and Safety - Good, Structural Compliance - Fair, Confidence in Management - Good). Hopefully more reviews like this will encourage them to reach 'High' in each section. Secondly, it should really be listed under the 'Places to Eat' section rather than 'Restaurants in' and should allow for some of those dedicated restaurateurs to gain the recognition.Saying all that, I can't help smile when I see it listed as the 8th best restaurant in Newbury and will visit again.

If it is hot then try one of their ice creams . The one I had was pistachio and it was excellent! Reminded me of Marine Ices in NW London (Chalk Farm tube)Prices were reasonable too!

The boss and I finally stopped for an ice cream at Gelarto, having walked past it many times. Yesterday was the day, and worth it. Excellent mint choc chip, with nice big chunks of chocolate, and good old fashioned chocolate. A nice treat.

Parked in Northbrook street they sell lovely ice cream and sorbets .. Can thoroughly recommend the mango sorbet

These guys gave a new definition to an Ice-cream van :) Great variety of tastes and fantastic quality. Not too sweet, just exactly as it should be. I tried Salted Caramel, Vanilla, Chocolate, Pistachio and some others. They also offer two tastes for free tasting every day. Worth every penny! And when you think 'scoop', it's a bit more than that.

Great flavours, good portions and reasonably priced from a conveniently located van. Best enjoyed on a hot summer's day!

I could agree that the ice cream is of top quality, but the lack of tables and chairs ,a waiter ,wine list and bar makes this an ice cream VAN not a restaurant, (as listed )the ice cream is good though and I will be going back

This wonderful van made an appearance at a private party I was a guest at on Saturday and went down a storm . Wonderful icrcream in all sorts of interesting and adult flavours served by lovely friendly peolple who seem genuinely happy to serve and to please . I was so impressed I had to sample another one the following day in Newbury - just to check that my judgement hadn't been coloured the day before by the party Pimms ! The White chocolate and coconut on my second visit was even more delicious than the peach one the day before . Already looking forward tomy next yummy treat .

Need I say more! Delicious ice cream...the coconut and lime is devine....and it rhymes! They make all their own ice cream and are charming to boot! Worth a stop....they are in the high street, in an ice cream van! Enjoy!

Outstanding ice cream at a truly honest price and served in a cheerful manner. What else can I say, beats the ice cream chains by a mile? Yes! Has a great range of flavours? Yes! Good fun to wander up and chat to? Yes!

We have tried (too) many of their flavours now and never fail to impress! Amazing quality and all made locally. Make sure you try the G&T or the lemon with basil. Or the Ferraro Rocher. Or any of them...

I'm Italian, so I'm a bit of an expert about gelato! :) This is fresh, creamy, tasty, and there are always lots of different flavours to choose from! It's also honestly priced, (unlike other places in town...), definitely my favourite gelato place in Newbury!

Stopped by with the kids at the weekend, it was quite late so they'd run out of the particular ice cream one of us wanted bit very kindly added the half scoop that was left to the one we'd had instead. Good quality ice cream as I don't do cheap stuff and not too pricey for the quality.

Carribean coconut and the salted caramel were our winners yesterday. If you're in Newbury I don't know why you'd go anywhere else for an ice-cream. Yum.

Proper ice cream from a van. Very pleased with this after finishing a meal in local restaurant and wanted a decent ice cream as we continued our walk on the Kennet and Avon canal. Bit pricey but well worth it!

I've had ice cream from here a couple of times now and it is delicious. Can't believe there's only one other review. Strawberry and prosecco I had last summer was a lovely grown up treat. I'll be back!

By far the best ice cream I've ever tasted, accompanied by great customer service. The flavours are imaginative and creative but always delicious. Peanut butter and chocolate is my favourite!You'd think I know the owners from this review, but I can assure you I don't!
