Such a family feel- we love it here! Great food and cakes are amazing and such good value. 5* service- highly recommended!

Popped in for lunch today, we each ordered a toasted sandwich but didn't expect what we received. As well as the toasted sandwich there was a side salad with dressing, pot of coleslaw and some crisps. All of it was delicious and cannot wait to go back. Would highly recommend:)

We went for afternoon Tea real great value for money never seen so much beautiful home made fresh food, savoury starters then sandwiches had an ample filling in every one the cakes soft fresh cream loads of them Pots of Tea to wash it down Try it yes you can have any left overs boxed up to take home real value Also all the staff are great, I wasn't sure about the location but , just try it.

Warm, friendly nothing too much trouble. Also do afternoon teas and light lunches. Can't wait to try.

Best afternoon tea I have had. I have visited on two occasions to date. Freshly made food, as much tea coffee and juice you would like. Staff friendly and attentive would highly recommend.

I reviewed this little gem in 2016 but since then it has gone from strength to strength. We often call in, as we did on Saturday, and can never fault the staff, level of cleanliness or the beverages and food. We had the vanilla and blueberry cheese cake and a good cup of tea (not weak stuff) At the time there were two groups having afternoon tea and it looked fabulous, three tiered cake stand and plates consisting of sandwiches, scones and jam, a selection of cakes and little glasses filled to the brim with cream and, I think, fruit and jelly. Afternoon teas are served on Saturdays and Sundays but you have to pre-book. On our next free weekend I know where we are having tea.

A beautifully prepared and presented funeral tea. There was a huge variety of savoury and sweet food served, including homemade vegetable soup. In fact there was so much that people took doggie bags home. The staff were very friendly and attentive. If you love a traditional afternoon tea then this is the place for you, and not just for funerals.

Just had a fantastic funeral tea at the gatehouse cafe. The quality and quantity of the sandwiches, cakes and even soup was some of the best I've ever had and the service and attention from the staff was excellent. I would recommend this cafe without hesitation for any small funeral party.

we were looking for a small venue near carlisle crem and this was perfect. Nice food, very well looked after by Val and her staff. Will call again during happier times.

I havnt eaten here but the lady who is on their facebook page advertising lindsey janes creations DO NOT ORDER......very unreliable let me down for xmas presents ordered over a month ago..just let me down no explanation or anything...had the audacity to say wasnt a case of letting me down but not well yet was on whatsapp regularly!!! No apology!!! I ordered xmas presents for my 2 young granddaughters hence to say doesnt deserve custom if she treats people like she does. I waited for her to contact me right up until xmas eve. Having contacted her was told orders that had been paid for took priority...was not asked for payment on ordering on 21st november...would of thought priority would be given to people ordering first!!!

Called in today for lunch with my husband. Fantastic service and wonderful welcome from Hayley. She is so friendly and cheerful. Gorgeous lunch and great coffee. Will be back very soon.

Sandwiches and cakes were excellent and for such a good cause. Beautiful day sat outside was nice to see so many people supporting the event. Val barbara and all the staff did a great job. Such a friendly place. A charity that is very close to my heart. Thankyou to Lorraine for all her hard work too. Lady jen and helen were a great help as always. Love this place!!!!!!!

Excellent warm friendly little cafe serving delicious home cooked food and cakes..welcoming staff and brought Dad for fathers day lunch Vals Famous Paisley Burger followed by homemade pudding .Dad was delighted. Val and Barbara and all Staff very chatty and make you feel welcome ..Lyndseys presentation of food is excellent. ..Will Definitely Recommend and This Has To Be My Favourite Place To Eat ☕

Love this little cafe at the entrance to Carlisle Cemetery. Very friendly welcome, delicious food and drinks. Working my way through the menu and not been disappointed yet. Wonderful! Highly recommend.

Having heard of this little cafe from friends decided to experience it for ourselves.

First visit to this lovely tearoom with my mum and grandmother. Small, cosy tearoom with a selection of gorgeous homemade cakes and scones on offer plus a great menu of paninis, toasties, jacket potatoes all served up beautifully.

I called in on the off chance it was open and got lucky. I was trying to be good and ordered a toasted teacake and drink. It is a quaint little place reminding me rather of a Victorian station or chapel. It is the gatehouse to the Carlisle Cemetery which is beautifully kept and has won national awards. The Cemetery is a wildlife reserve also.

I cannot rate this place highly enough! A large group of us (some with disabilities) had arranged to have lunch here after a walk in the cemetery. I had ascertained that we could be accommodated a couple of weeks ago and was contacted yesterday to discuss the arrangements. We were all made most welcome! The staff coped very well and everyone was very pleased with the food.

Can't rate this little cafe highly enough. Staff are very friendly and welcoming. Good menu with plenty of choice. Quick, friendly service. I can recommend the plougmans sandwich, it was delicious, came served with salad, crisps and coleslaw. Very reasonably priced. Lovely atmosphere. You can walk off your over indulgence in the grounds of the award winning Carlisle Cemetery. The Daffodil walk at this time of year is particularly stunning. Top marks, highly recommend a visit.

Was so looking forward to going to the gatehouse as not far for use to travel staff where very friendly the room was rather cool but it was very windy outside the only downfall was the scone it Was dry and not very nice looked like a shop bought scone not homemade but everything else was ok

As a regular of the gatehouse cafe i feel i have to leave a review of just how good the Steak Pie special is.. comes with crushed potatoes and peas and a jug of gravy.. its cooked to perfection.. i ordered it and within 10 minutes it was at the table.. very reasonably priced too compared with town prices.. highly recommend this as i do with everything on the menu. Staff always friendly and polite and always busy.. lovely atmosphere. Little gem of a cafe!!

Wonderful afternoon tea for a coeliac and non-coeliac, plentiful soup and sandwiches, cream scone, cakes and dessert, all very tasty top ingredients, home made and fresh. Gluten free version just as good as regular, very soft and moist cakes. Staff friendly and attentive, comfortable surroundings. Weekends only for afternoon tea at the moment, and book in advance. GF breakfasts, lunches and cake always available.

Val and team were absolutely amazing, the food was delicious, so fresh and plentiful. We intend visiting again in happier times

I called at the Gatehouse Cafe with a friend because it had been recommended,. It was everything I had been told. The staff Hayley and Becky couldn't have been nicer. The ambience was lovely, clean, nicely decorated and warm. The choice of meals was very good. We opted for a toasted sandwich with salad and coleslaw but there was a really good choice of food including jacket potatoes, paninis, sandwiches and a very hearty full english breakfast.

My local cafe. Warm and friendly with gorgeous food and really lovely staff. The added bonus of beautiful flowers for sale. Well behaved dogs are welcome. This is only the second cafe in Carlisle where they do this. A bonus if you are a dog walker in he cemetery. Place is spotless. Perfect for solo eaters, friends and family.

Called in to try this cafe and it was great, our coffee was piping hot, the homemade pastries were beautifully fresh and everyone serving or helping gave a very warm welcome. I will of course come here again and l heartily recommend it to the paying public. Well done

A bit of a hidden gem in an unexpected location. Easy parking in a lovely setting is a bonus, lovely food including lots of gluten free options and staff who understand about issues with cross contamination of food.

Been a few times now under the new ownership and everytime the food is beautiful. Lovely breakfasts, paninis and jacket potatoes. All food cooked fresh and very reasonably priced. The cafe is kept spotlessly clean and all staff are polite and freindly. Lovely little cafe. Situated at the entrance to the cemetery on Richardson street. Looking forward to going back again

I've been past numerous times but never been in, so when we needed somewhere with easy parking to meet friends we decided on the Gatehouse Cafe. It's in a very picturesque building at the gatehouse to the cemetery but don't let that put you off.

We went to the cafe out of interest. We were surprised at the quality of the food and the lovely atmosphere.will call again

I love visiting this beautiful little coffee shop. The staff are warm and friendly and go out of their way to make sure everything is perfect. The food is gorgeous!!!! Pretty flowers and plants make the place feel homely. I can't wait to return again soon.

This small quaint cafe is situated in the original gatehouse of Carlisle cemetery. Although this might sound a wee bit strange, apart from passing trade and the people who have already discovered this cafe and it's good food, it serves the residents of the area and people visiting the cemetery well. The owners are friendly and make lovely food ranging from beautiful home made soups to various types of sandwiches, yummy cakes and teas and coffees.
