Whytes Cafe Bar in Carlisle

The balance of the quality of food , the service, and the value for money in comparison to the lake district cafes make this the best cafe in cumbria. It's better than the award winning cafes we have eaten in.

Great little place, excellent quality food with lovely staff and super service. A little more pricey than other cafes however you're getting great quality and quantity so well worth the extra. Get in early as it fills up fast!

Usually pop in here for a toasted panini or sandwich if we’re in town. It’s always busy but the staff are so friendly and the food is freshly made. I try to spend my money in independent stores and this is family owned and it shows. A real gem.

We dropped by here for a quick lunch while visiting Carlisle and it was a great decision. All the food and drinks we had tasted great and the portions were generous. The prices were good, and the service was super friendly and efficient. Overall a great experience and would definitely recommend place.

Lovely fresh bacon and sausage buns. Nice clean cafe and very approachable hosts. We'll be back when we next in Carlisle.

Great coffee friendly staff good food.

We each ordered the chicken and noodle soup which was served with fennel bread. Beautiful flavours: absolutely delicious. This was followed by a generous piece of carrot cake which had a lovely light texture. Excellent food and coffee, spotlessly clean and very friendly, helpful staff. We highly recommend this wonderful independent cafe.

This is my favourite cafe in Carlisle for lunch. Delicious soups and paninis and club sandwiches. The cakes look good as well although I'm usually too full to indulge! Friendly service and cozy feeling make for a lovely experience.

If you’re looking for a cafe in Carlisle, I’d be surprised if you can do better - a great veggie breakfast, complete with a really good sized mug of coffee, and loads of lovely treats. We rocked up 1 minute after opening and our host looked after us perfectly! Breakfast was delicious, coffee spot on and the music just right to start the day. Great little cafe - keep it up and we'll definitely be back when in Carlisle.

We visited here after reading the great reviews, we were not disappointed. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. We chose the Cheese & Chive Scones, they were delicious, the extra cheese made them very special. Well worth finding if you are visiting Carlisle.

Stopped by for a quick lunch before heading to the train station. Friendly service, the staff were lovely, and the paninis we had were tasty! Would try again because the soup they had smelled great 🤤

Wonderful breakfast. Latte was great as were the quiches on two separate days. Scones were also excellent and the wait staff was very attentive. The best breakfast in Carlisle!

A very nice cafe in a good location. The cheese scones are good, and the addition of some grated cheddar was a nice touch.

Dropped in here to a very friendly welcome, very reasonably priced and great quality on all that we had. Would have been 5 stars, but unfortunately a few of our choices were not available. It was our fourth good choice from the menu that they could do. That said what we had was great and the staff were very pleasant.

As always a beautiful full breakfast served with bloomer toast, breakfast tea and excellent coffee. The staff are lovely and the atmosphere is great. Very clean and quality produce too. A must for me and my family.

Whyte's was the 4th cafe I tried for a cooked breakfast and I'm glad the first 3 weren't serving. It was really busy but all the staff were polite and friendly and went out of their way to the needs of all the customers I saw arriving after me. The food was very tasty, especially the bacon and haggis. Hash browns weren't available and I was offered an extra egg instead - I did well out of that :)

Staff very friendly and welcoming. Had lunch here which for me was soup and a sandwich. Lentil soup was very nice. The sandwich however was dry bread with no butter or mayonnaise. One slice had the filling on and the other slice of dry bread was just laid diagonally on top. Not enough filling to eat with the second slice so it was really dry. Unfortunately I noticed the younger member of staff rub her face/nose area while handling plates. It was a bit off-putting. Other than these issues, a nice little place. Would not hesitate to go back if these issues were addressed.

This cafe has a delightful atmosphere. The management and staff are welcoming, polite and helpful. The food and coffee choices are excellent. On my visit today I just wanted mid-afternoon coffee and cake. The warmed ginger and plum cake, served with a little jug of cream, was outstanding. A delightful and enjoyable experience.

Beautiful home made scones, lovely coffee, fresh flowers on the tables , what’s not to like. Will be visiting again .

What a delightful experience!! From the lovely lady who greeted us when we walked in, to the food, atmosphere and girl who served us. I cannot fault Whytes! My mum and I both had soup and a toastie. I actually commented how incredible the lentil soup was…might be the best I’ve had!! Thank you for having us!! 10/10 all round!

Busy cafe in centre of town. Mix of people in here, friendly service and didn’t feel rushed. Coffee served in generous mugs, and delicious date and honey scone. Cheese scone well flavoured with chilli and extra cheese on the side.

Came here for a late breakfast one morning. Staff were very nice and attentive. They unfortunately could only make one full english so I had an omelette. Food was to a good standard.

We called in to Whytes following checking out reviews on this site. We got in just at the right time as a few minutes later, a lot more customers arrived. i noticed one table behind us hadn't been cleared but it was a few minutes...

My 2nd visit here and will now always be my 1st choice of late breakfast watering hole whenever I visit Carlisle. The manager and her staff are very friendly, obliging and efficient. The food and drink on offer is always of high quality and well-presented....

What a beautiful cafe, a perfect stop for coffee, breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea. We just had coffees as had eaten a large breakfast at our B&B. The coffees were the best, we had enjoyed so far, a tasty Scottish blend made to your liking....

I think someone has taken over this cafe , the coleslaw tasted/looked different and the New York Panini was ok but the BBQ sauce didn't taste like it used to. Menu and decor has remained the same. The waitress was folding cutlery when we walked in and didn't greet us until I asked if we could take a seat, she also mentioned that they were shut very soon before we sat down

Whytes Cafe is a 'must do' if you're having a day out in Carlisle. My wife and I checked the reviews and thought we'd try it for a breakfast....good decision. Can only say excellent service and delicious food, hot but not over cooked. Well done to the staff and cook(s). Home made baking and home made Jam superb!! The cafe has a good atmosphere, is spotless and staff are very helpful and attentive. Thank guys.

This wee spot is a hidden gem. The cheese and chive scones are the best in town, I love my coffee ☕red hot and the staff always get it right 👏👏. The staff are friendly, professional and make you feel welcome. Well worth a visit.

Called in on way for our train back to Scotland, based on reviews I was expecting quite good things, everything was okay but I would say quite average, it was very very busy so this may have contributed. Would call again as very convenient.

Absolutely delicious Stilton and broccoli soup served with warm fennel bread and butter. And following, possibly the best flat white I’ve ever had. The lovely staff let me know the coffee was Thomson’s of Glasgow. Top quality, highly recommended!

Whytes is a very smart little cafe situated in the city centre towards the Cathedral. It’s not very large, with only 8 or 9 tables inside and another 3 on the pavement. They do a nice selection of hot snd cold snacks, soups, sandwiches etc.,...

Regularly buy take away lunch from Whytes because you get great friendly service and tasty fresh food. Love the lentil and bacon soup. Don’t go any where else for a sit down meal or snack .

Lovely breakfast (apparently the coffee is special but I'm not qualified to judge!). Children loved it and were thoroughly spoilt by enormous hot chocolates. No children's size breakfast available, in hindsight I'd probably have ordered them by item as both were beaten by full English!...

Went for lunch yesterday and had sandwiches that were lovely then spotted the sweet potato and coconut soup so asked to take that away to have for tea and it was delicious would definitely recommend.
