It took more than an hour for food to arrive. I called and was told that it will arrive in 10 mins half an hour later, still waiting. Food was cold

Great quality food at real value for money. I could go there every night, but end up like a man mountain. Remember that they are unlicensed and you need to bring your own hooch. There is a Coop opposite so this is no problem

I have not visited this restaurant recently, but got a takeout from Uber. My order was a collection of vegetarian dishes and rice. The dhal was the worst I have ever had. It was super runny, and to be honest I think they added water to it ... probably 50%! It was the consistency of a cup-a-soup, and tasteless. The egg rice was oily and tasteless, the Paneer Tika was just lumps of paneer fried in a red tikka colour, but no sauce. I would not recommend, and I think a Tesco curry box would beat it hands down in flavour.

Everytime I come here the staff and management are top notch. The food is so fresh and very reasonable..when I'm in the area I will come here for definite.

This restaurant is under new management so we decided to give it another try after a bad experience when we moved to the area two years ago. Well, we couldn’t fault a thing. Attentive and efficient service, The food was the best curry we have had in a long time. A really lovely evening. We will definitely be back 😀

Visited the gate of india last week , nice place , friendly staff, polite . Food wise its ok , mostly catering for the locals , i appreciate them for making an effort to cater the food to my tastes , as my family would like to have spicy flavourful food . Overall good place to go if you prefer bengali style (indian) food . Plenty of room for improvement .

The sitting area is too congested.. Staff is friendly but misleading.. They don't have clarity of their own menu.. Although food was good in taste.. Will recommend for food so don't expect much apart from that.

The food was tasteless, no spice or the usual rich curry flavours. Garlic chicken didn’t taste of garlic at all. The atmosphere was bland and there was poor upkeep, paint coming off ceiling, debris all over the carpet, no toilet paper etc. Didn’t have the nice music playing that you usually have in an Indian restaurant, there were no smells of Indian food being cooked which is suspicious. It didn’t feel like a restaurant experience at all and then at the end we were verbally asked to leave a tip twice, can I add service charge to the bill, when we looked a bit taken aback was prompted with what tip shall I put in. Wow and not in a good way.

Very welcoming and friendly restaurant. It's a bring your own alcohol place and this works well for us. Everything we ordered was cooked to perfection as always. Highly recommend

Accepted my order on uber eats . Then refused to deliver it and not received any refund. Disgusting behaviour from the restaurant and even worse Cs on uber eats a total shambles .

Absolutely awful place. The food smelled and tasted terrible and now most of us feel sick. Avoid at all costs.

Visited Poole for the weekend and popped in for a curry. Found the service welcoming. The food was delicious. Will come back again when in Poole.

An unfortunate experience. Attending on a Wednesday evening the restaurant wasn't busy not full, about half full. The service from start to finish was lacking. From slow service at the table, to missing ordered items, repeated requests for a simple wine glass (bring your own alcohol), and not giving you the bill when requested. The food was ok. The quality was a little lower than expected for the price point.

I was picking up a take away. Their website is not good. Ring them and place order over the phone. Do not use the number on Google, use yellow pages to get their actual number. The owner is trying to get the website taken down.

BEWARE we placed an order online via their website on New Years Day and it was never delivered despite several calls, left messages on their answer machine. They took our money and are now disputing a refund as they said their driver delivered the food. Very difficult to get any sense out of the restaurant and customer service doesnt exist, if their driver made an error they as a restaurant should deal with that not dispute it with the customer, will never use this restaurant again, despite using them a lot over the years

Great food, service and location, probably the nicest Indian restaurant in Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch. And they’re lovely people too!

Love the Gate of India, the staff are very freindly and are always very pleased to see you. The food has is amazing so much flavour. It BYO, so you can take your favourite wine or for me a pint of Guinness. Small down side the popadons are a bit thin, so are susceptible to snapping when loaded with you favourite curry dish.

This is my favourite and I love this restaurant We visit a lot with family friends and children .the food is amazing. The staff are very kind and have patience with young children . You do have to bring your own alcohol. Which is fine with me because you don't have to pay £60 for a £10 bottle of wine. I definitely recommend this restaurant.

Great Indian! Food is good, really wide choice and all tasty! No licence so even better as you can take what you like so it works out rather reasonable!! Recently tarted up inside, the lighting is rather bright, all in all a great place for a good dinner out with friends!

Great friendly service with a smile. The interior is very dated and looks unclean. Was handed a menu which had a dead spider stuck to it. Rice, naan all good. However they need to work on their butter chicken. Not as creamy as other places I’ve had it from. Moved to Poole recently so wanted to try however will not be my first choice when I’m in the mood for an Indian again.

Went there at 6pm Sunday. Service good but the food was lacking. I had a prawn dopiaza which was advertised as medium hot, unfortunately I couldn't taste any seasoning at all, my paratha bread was soft and chewy - more like a pitta bread. My guests didn't do much better. The korma was virtually a bowl full of sauce. The chicken tikka marsala again was a bowl of sauce bright red and far too sweet. It's a shame its a nice looking venue & staff were good - but the food was below average.

Was a great takeaway, all very very hot, and tasted really good, Very well priced and tasty, the best takeaway curry we have had in the Poole area, we have recommend it. We will be ordering again.

Always excellent. Can't fault it. Bring your own beer and wine now. So meal for two around £30 - £40

Good traditional curry house. Cheap and byob. Friendly staff. I’d replace the carpet with wood floor and give it a paint and some pictures.

The Food here is Excellent and the staff here are very friendly and customer service is professional.

I was moderately excited to visit this restaurant since it was packed full on a Sunday night. The waiters were accommodating and friendly. Children take the back seat, and there is no understanding nor provision for them. Seating space is tight and not comfortable at all. The interior of the restaurant is rather dated. Prices are medium high, and the food quality and taste hardly justify it. It is a place, which is OK for a visit when you are hungry but it would not be my first choice.

The food was horrendous I am disappointed and I deeply regret choosing this restaurant and spending my money on it, the chicken was uncooked, do not recommend……

Very friendly, kind atmosphere with delicious food.We requested to keep the food mild as the kids could enjoy it too. It was a very good experience.

The food tastes bland. They are cheating the local people by serving food which doesn't have any flavour as Indian food. I am not talking about spice, but Indian food is aromatic, warm and flavourful and we experienced none. We ordered mutter paneer or so we thought. They brought peas in a sticky cheese sauce based on cheddar cheese and with no flavour whatsoever. If there is a way to give less than 1 star or negative star I wouldn't think twice to give the same.

I ordered saag paneer and it does not taste nothing like saag very plain and no paneer I would not recommend any one to order that dish definitely needs improvement in the food

Ridiculously good Indian. Went with a friend and was £24 for an absolute feast. Chicken bhuna, couple of naans, dhal and poppadoms. Was fab. They don't serve alcohol but you can bring it in.

Absolutely disgusting service. We walked into an empty restaurant and were seated, they bought a high chair for my son out from the toilets and there was questionable dirt up it. They then gave my partner a wipe and said just wipe it over. The cutlery was dirty and so were the plates ! Definitely we’re not staying there for food !!!

To be fair, this was an early meal so the atmposhere may be better a bit later. Food was OK, not great. Dips and onions with poppadoms did not appear fresh. Mains were OK, presentation was average. Prices were reasonable.

Im a massive curry fan...Had a takeaway lamb biryani... wasn't the best . The place could do with a space up but I believe it's bring your own booze which is always good... I had a glass of red while waiting and it was rank 🙈 prob in the bottle for ages

The food's served piping hot and so efficiently by a horde of waiters who are very attentive and accommodating. You have to take your own alcohol but there's no corkage charge. It gets very busy and noisy on Friday and Saturday nights and the service is still good.

Our go to Indian in Ashley cross. Bring your own bottle makes it a cheap night out. Very popular on a Saturday night so worth booking. Food has always been spot on!

Yet again an impressive set of meals. We forgot the rice but it was included anyway. Lamb was delicious and the bringel Bargie was deliciously smoky. Thanks again guys. Awesome 👌

This restaurant does not have a drinks licence so bring your own, there is no corkage charge. The food is good and plentiful, but the service is a bit lack lustre and even a glass of water can be overlooked. Be aware of the price of chutneys to accompany poppadoms which can add significantly to your bill. The restaurant was packed on a Saturday night and it was very hot say at the tables in the corner.

Absolutely disgusted with the service. We were given take away menus with cheaper prices on to order, and only when the bill came did they explain that the other menu is more expensive and that's what we were being charged for, this is false advertising. On top of this, we had food that didn't arrive including an entire meal for someone, which we asked for multiple times, in the end she had to say not to bother! The whole restaurant was packed in with tables too close together, the service trolley was bashed into tables constantly, and at one point we were asked to move our table up! We weren't offered anything to make up for the ridiculous service and false advertisment. All in all it was a laughable experience and safe to say we will not be returning. And I'm being generous with this review, Imagine if Karen came!

This is very poor service I pre ordered the takeaway from The Gate of India through Food hub at 4:40pm with expected delivery at 6pm. 5:45pm my order was cancelled. Very unprofessional and frustrating. Shame because the food is excellent I have eaten at the restaurant many times.

Fantastic. Me and my partner booked a table sat nite 15.10.22. Lovely food and and an even better atmosphere. The staff were all attentive. Great value. 👍 Toilets were also great. Highly recommended.

Got to say I'm afraid not an enjoyable experience, sloppy service and the food wasn't the best. BYO is a good idea but I don't drink anyway.

Chicken Bhuna + vegetable rice= absolutely lovely. Delicious tomato sauce as well as veggies, the rice actually had a hint of coconut flavour (maybe cooked in coconut milk), and the meal was absolutely mind blowing, chicken pieces could be a bit more tender but it was definitely one of the best Indian meals I’ve ever had. Customer service also amazingly welcoming and nice. Thanks a bunch

Disingenuous friendly staff with false smiles. We ordered papadoms, and theytried to take them away several times before we finished them. it then took 20 mins for the mains to arrive, 40 minutes after we ordered them. I ordered a Lamb Rogan Josh and it tasted like it had 3 tablespoons of sugar in it. I told them,... they denied it. And did nothing to help remedy it.

i would love to give negative markings if i got chance. they are just insulting the name of india and indian food by selling awful food, half cook, i ordered matar paneer, pulses, butter chicken and lamb. literally, they give us white channa instead of paneer, pulses was like smashed potatoes with full sweetness which was disgusting, i told them to give us large butter chicken and they just give me 3 pieces of chicken which was like ice cube size and lamb was not cooked properly because when i chewed it becomes rubber, seems like 10 days before lamb. then o ask waiter to give me some green chillies if a person is suffering with diabetes, so please say no to this restaurant and if a person would like to suffer from diabetes so, please hurry up and go to this restaurant. the thing is of bill. the bill was 80 gbp. which i gave and hurts alot, that is paid for ridiculous food 🤮

Fantastic place to eat a fabulous curry The staff are amazing and never seem to change which is a good thing as they all get to know you and you know them They are always happy and are always ready for a chat and a giggle (The boss man) seems to know everything that’s going on and who’s arriving and when without looking at anything written down all in all the best place I like to have a eat in curry 🍛 brilliant

If you enjoy a good freshly cooked curry by a good chef this is not the place to go, very dissatisfied was looking forward to a tasty meal,alot of warmed up food?! Will. Not be going back any time soon and as for the werdo waiter clearing drinks that were not finished putting his finger's in the glasses not good enough all round!!!

Ordered a takeaway which arrived lukewarm. The curries were tastless, watery with very little meat. The poppadoms tasted of stale oil and one was over cooked. I ordered a large rice and received a small portion. This Indian used to serve amazing food, full of flavour, but not anymore.

What an exceptional experience. We were greeted as soon as we approached the door and within 2 minutes had our poppadoms and dips whilst we looked at the menu. Ordered and received really fast and wow the quality was fantastic. The guys here give fantastic service and deserve every 5 star review they receive. Superb.

Ordered via Just Eat. Order expected at 1830 arrived 1910. Order arrived only just warm, saag aloo was cold. Chapatti was wrapped tightly in a bag and it was soaked with condensation. 2 of the 3 curries were 75% full. Only 1 poppadom of the two ordered. I rang the restaurant to let them know all this and they dismissively said they would "give me free things next time" Really disappointing.

Good food, nice staff the only down side was a very loud table of three , but, we will dine there again.

What a huge disappointment!!! We have just been out to The Gate of India, somewhere we had always had nice food with friendly staff, what happened? They no longer serve alcohol (this is not mentioned on their website, which they claim they can't change), the food is tasteless, very little rice, very little actual meat, whether you had chicken or not, and the garlic nan was burnt on the underside and just had garlic butter poured over it. What should have been a nice meal out, started and finished in all of 45 minutes!! The only thing that had any taste at all was the After Eights when we begrudgingly paid the bill. We will not be going back anytime soon, disgraceful.....

Lovely meal, friendly staff. Worth noting they weren't serving alcohol but didn't mind us taking some in with us.

Just had a selection of dishes delivered to try a few new things out with our normals. By far the best indian we have ever had. Literally everything was perfect. One of those meals where you are left like "I need to leave a review!!!" Plus delivery was around 40 minutes so really happy with that aswell.

A real old school traditional curry house. Great menu. Really friendly staff. BYOB. Good value. Probably one of the hottest vindaloos I’ve had! Excellent food. Can get busy on a Friday and Saturday night.
