Stayed for two nights last week. Stayed in the ground floor room designed fo accommodate the less abled. Having back and leg problems I found the bed sadly uncomfortable. I would strongly recommend a mattress with more support. I had difficulty getting off of the bed. The door into the room was sticking at bottom half of the jamb and the pocket sliding door was jamming on the lining making it noisy to open. Generally the room was o.k. otherwise. The hotel is ideally placed with a good sized car park. Excellent breakfast.

We had lunch here as we could sit at the tables in the front garden and watch the world go by. We all had various sandwiches which had plenty of fillings and salad and crisps at a reasonable price. The young lady serving was very pleasant. It was a relaxing visit.

My wife and I stayed at the hotel for 2 nights over the weekend. On arriving by car, we parking in the on-site car park, with ample spares, impressed already! On checking in, the staff were friendly, helpful and professional. Due to very hot weather, my wife asked about a fan in the room, we was informed there is a fan in the room but the staff supplied an extra fan without any additional charge. The room was a small double but never the less very nice. The staff were always happy to help, with a smile and very pleasant. My wife is vegetarian and was very happy with the vegetarian breakfast and commented how tasty it was, my wife is quite difficult to please when it comes to vegetarian food, as normally vegetarian food is a poor relation!! The hotel was extremely well situated for the beach, steam train station, shops and pubs/restaurants.we enjoyed our stay at the hotel so much, we WILL be returning in the near future. Can I take this opportunity to thank all the staff at The Gascony Hotel, and see you soon!

We were desperate for a Sunday roast and so, when we spotted the sign outside saying roast dinner served between 6-8pm, we decided to try it out. When we entered at 7pm and asked, initially we were told that they had probably run out but that they would check. A few moments later, we were told that they could manage it and we were told to sit in the bar area. To say the place had zero atmosphere would be an understatement. When the food did arrive it was OK but nothing special. They had run out of all puddings, though, apparently. The woman serving us became a little chatty as the meal came to an end and, after we had paid and three of our party had left the room, she started talking about where she had originally come from and that’s when she said some things that left us feeling rather uncomfortable, leaving a very sour taste in the mouth!

We had an evening meal here in early April on a Sunday. Although early in the year there was a slow but continual turnover of diners. The room is clean and tidy with comfortable chairs and tables, some with bench seats. A reasonable selection on the menu and good beer at the bar. The food was served in reesonable time and was well cooked. The lady who acted as our waitress and hotel receptionist was very friendly and pleasant. A quiet room where you can talk to each other! A good place to eat.

We chose the Gascony for the venue for our xmas meal as it is local to our group. There were 16 in our group and we all got our meals brought out to us at the same time so there was no waiting. No one in our group had any complaints about the meal at all. It was hot and plenty of it. The beef was tender and it was well cooked (no blood) others who had the turkey said that was very nice too. There were plenty of vegetables and were all cooked so no hard sprouts or broccoli. The staff were very friendly and polite.

We have been trying out a different place in Minehead for lunches, the Gascony Hotel has come out on top for food, you could not fault it. The staff were a bit shy to begin with, but we soon found someone and from then on very friendly. We each had something different to eat and a glass of wine, we also had dessert, one of the best I,ve ever had. Although the meal was a little expensive, we couldn't fault the meal in anyway, tho I don't think they could shout about it a bit more, as there is plenty of room.

Visited Gascony on 14 August 2017 for dinner. The menu was fairly simple, being mostly English fare. The food was fresh, good, and homemade and with friendly (and quick) service. This just gives The Gascony 4 stars - missing out on ambience.

A really nice traditional Hotel We only eat there for a Sunday night meal in the dining room, as fortunately they did cater for non guests, which was absolutely excellent and this was preceded by a gin and tonic on the outside front tables in the sunshine. Afterwards we took a bottle of wine to the lounge and found an excellent and friendly set of guests to be with us. Of course we cannot comment on the rooms there but judging from the photographs and the standard of the place they should be excellent. Certainly a place to consider as only a stones throw from the beach and an alternative to that very strange Beach Hotel we have commented on before C'est la vie

The hotel has an air of bygone days, although there is WiFi and it works. The general décor is tired and the room although adequate could do with another makeover. Only offered bar meals - guess it is this time of year and post best of the season! Breakfast is only between 0800-0900 - suited us OK but wont suit all.

After a walk around town we decided to stop here for our Sunday dinner. As it was a lovely day we sat outside. We were handed our menus straight away by a really smiley waitress, she informed us of the specials and what meat there was for Sunday dinner. We ordered 2 adult beef dinners 1 child's beef and 1 child turkey Sunday dinner. They arrived around 15 minutes later and were lovely, the meat was full of flavour, the vegetables were cooked to perfection, the roast potatoes were crunchy and the gravy was proper homemade. 4 meals along with 2 beers and a pot of tea came to £41 which I thought was very good as the food was delicious. Will definitely be visiting again.

We decided to eat at Gascony Hotel as it was our first night in Minehead and bearing in mind the football was on that night and chef wanted to knock off early he agreed to cook for us provided we ordered before 8pm (it was 7.45pm at this point). We ordered 3 whole baked trout with new potatoes and veg. These were at £10.95 each. After a little while the food came up with a dish of veg separate for us to share. The trout were a decent size, plenty of buttered new potatoes and plenty of carrots, cauliflower, broccoli and the nice surprise was some spiced red cabbage. We came away feeling pleasantly full and that we'd had a decent plate of food for the price we paid.

This was my second year of visiting this establishment and my recollection of the service and quality of food was maintained. The quality of food served is excellent with good size portions being given and a good choice of food. My only, tiny criticism, is the chairs in the dining \ bar area as they are much to low for the tables and you feel you have to reach up to eat. Apart from that a very good place to eat. Home cooked food with good quantities and choice.

I agree with Haavard. Th quality of the meal was poor and the staff appeared tired and totally disinterested. My wife ordered the £16 menu, with three items. The soup was like slightly greem vomit and tasteless. He had the main meal and then the desert. Since she allowed me to eat the soup, the waitress said I had to pay for my soup separately, and charged an extra 95p for the privilege, even though it was covered by the menu option. Obviously, this place is struggling to stay open, and has now lost three potential customers. The place is tired, cramped and the staff are on auto-pilot. The place is NOT worth it. Never again.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

The Gascony is a B&B hotel with restaurant facilities, centrally located in Minehead. We were tempted by “Fresh baked cod with provencale sauce with new potatoes or jacked wedges and vegetables…..£10.50”, and wanted to give it a try, ref. attached photo. After the order had been taken I for some reason said to my wife; “let us double-check that the meal will be served with new potatoes”. The answer from the waitress was surprising, as we were then told there were not enough new potatoes left, so we could choose between chips and vegetables. We found this a bit strange, but we had already started sharing a bottle of nice white wine, so we decided to continue. When the meal had been served we immediately found that the “fresh baked cod” was no more than a below-average pub battered cod & chips meal, except for the price: A few days earlier we had a far better meal at “the Hobby Horse Inn” down at the Esplanade at the price of 6£. So of course we did not bother to try the Gascony again. This review does only apply to the restaurant, as we did not stay at the accomodation.
