Garrison Public House in Southwark

Ubicado justo al sur de la estación de tren y metro London Bridge en Bermondsey, este pub gastronómico ofrece una experiencia gastronómica sólida, pero sufre mucho en el ambiente. El interior es rústico, con una mezcla de opciones de asientos: mesas altas, mesas estándar y asientos de bar. Si bien el menú es sencillo, las especialidades diarias agregan variedad, ya que los camareros sacan una bandeja de pescado fresco para que los comensales lo vean, un toque reflexivo que permite a los clientes apreciar las opciones y el tamaño de las porciones. Mientras que la ensalada de cangrejo, con colirrábidos y una mezcla de carne de cangrejo blanca y marrón, era excepcionalmente fresca y sabrosa, y el parfait de pato —una mousse de hígado de pato suave servida con un puré dulce y pan crujiente— estaba bien preparado, los asientos eran apretados e incómodos, especialmente en las mesas altas. Un extraño divisor en el centro de estas mesas las hacía sentir aún más constreñidas. Para la alimentación, el pez monje estaba excelentemente cocinado, cubierto con una salsa de hierbas y chile, y servido junto con una ensalada de hinojo y pepino. La solla estaba igualmente fresca y bien ejecutada, acompañada también de la misma salsa y ensalada. Las patatas fritas de la casa, un bloque de patatas en capas, eran especialmente notables. Sin embargo, el ambiente dejó mucho que desear. El ruido de fondo excesivo dificultó la conversación, con incluso la camarera luchando por escucharnos. Esto, junto con los estrechos asientos, restó importancia a la experiencia, eclipsando una comida por lo demás agradable.

Lovely location and inside way cosy. The roast was good and we were quickly brought extra gravey however once we finished our food our drinks were cleared immediately even though we had time left in our booking. Even my water glass was cleared away which I didn’t like.

Sunday roast was good but not great. Service was really good. It's a bit loud. Would go back, but could use some improvement.

As always the food was great. Had a reservation for a standard table but when we arrived there were none so they placed us at a high top shared by several patrons(clearly for walk ins) by the kitchen.

Fuimos a asar el domingo, las verduras estaban mal cocinadas, salsa acuosa, carne mala. Sobreprecio y no es bueno. Tuvo que quejarse y se encontró con una mala actitud. No recomendaría.

Service was helpful and swift. The food was OK but cold/cool. The portions were average. Overall, it was expensive for what was received.

We enjoyed our lunch at The Garrison - we have both been before. We nibbled on some focaccia to start. I had the monkfish and my friend the prawns - we shared a portion of chips. We should have got 2 portions! Very good though not enough to share. Service was friendly and relaxed and we enjoyed our bottle of vinho verde. Next time we would get a couple of additional sides - portions are on the small side. A good spot for lunch. The damage £110 for 2.

Roast was very good (albeit not as good as my excellent local). Atmosphere was nice, but a bit loud — not music, just all hard surfaces making it noisy. Bright and open feeling. Nice. Service was exceptional, as was the dessert.

Warm welcome, lovely bright restaurant and nice buzzy atmosphere. Food service was a little slow for a roast dinner and had to ask a couple of times for condiments with our lunch but other than that it was a great experience.

So happy to write a glowing review for our meal tonight. Phillipe, our waiter, deserves a lot of credit for his professional and friendly service. The food was excellent, and those chips, oh, those chips. I doubt you'll have eaten anything like them...but will say no more except you have to go and try them. Beautifully cooked fish and lamb and lovely desserts. It was very busy and so it was loud, but to be fair, we were a party of 4 over 60's. We aren't in London often but would definitely go back.

This is a great place to eat. We’ve been several times for evening and most recently Sunday roast. Located on a quaint street just a stones throw away from the crowded streets of London Bridge. The food and drinks are good quality and well prepared. The staff are super friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and very helpful. The atmosphere is busy but cosy and inviting. It’s a bit on the pricey side, but worth a visit if you’re planning a friends and family meet-up or stepping out as a couple.

First time dining here and what a find! Food was outstanding - the freshest fish, beautifully cooked and served quite simply with thoughtful (optional) sides. Wine selection good - we tried a Greek white wine which was beautiful. Service was also excellent - we were served by Cindy who both knew the fish selection very well and she was also very friendly without being intrusive. Only downside of this restaurant is our table (fixed seating and table) felt a little cramped. But if you avoid the tables at the top of the restaurant, you will be treated to an excellent view of the open kitchen with a brilliant team of chefs. Overall, highly recommended. And a note to those who don’t eat or like fish - there are plenty of non fish options on the menu, which changes daily depending on what is the freshest and in season. Just try here. You won’t regret it.

The food was very nice, having had the prawns to start and the steak with chips and hispi cabbage for mains. The waitress was also helpful in recommending a nice wine to accompany. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the Bermondsey/London Bridge area.

This was a delicious meal, very skilfully created from high quality ingredients. The meat (I had lamb, my husband had beef) was the best flavour and melt in the mouth texture that I have had for a while. And the tomato salad was so flavoursome. All brought to us in a relaxed and friendly style by the lovely staff. I can’t wait to go back.

Really great food. Slight shame the kitchen ran out of a couple dishes by the time we ordered (about 8pm) as that’s because everything is fresh on the day I couldn’t complain! All the dishes our table (of 6) had were excellent. Also great vibe.

Cute little place which specialises in fish dishes although has a selection of meats too. Veg was particularly good, i had the cabbage with mackerel which was great Wine also a great choice. Only niggly thing about the whole experience was the small table we were sat at, there were larger table, booth style too but we prioritised being by the front windows

I booked the Garrison as I had gone for a meal a few years ago and it was sensational. This time I went with two friends and hoped it would be as good- I was not disappointed, food was super. The staff were warm and welcoming and it had an excellent vibe, my two friends loved it as well. My only slight disappointment was the frites - not really the image my friend and I had- maybe called something different.

Had a delightful business lunch. Fish and chips and a crab on sourdough with a couple of glasses of wine was perfect. Sunny day with the windows open, lovely ambiance and great staff. Couldn't have been better.

Both of us commented on how good your food was and the staff were incredibly warm and attentive and were very accommodating letting me stay on to take a work call in the middle of the afternoon. Love The Garrison. A relatively short menu that changes regularly but which never disappoints. Food is always fabulous. The service is friendly and usually efficient. Also, they know how to make a martini.

Had Sunday lunch with a friend, got a table downstairs in the cinema room, lovely little spot. Food and service were great, and we had lovely seats in the corner where we could both sit on the bench and look into the room. Loved it, definitely will be back!

This place is such a gem - I will definitely be returning. The sea bass was divine as were the side of beans and crushed jersey royals. One of the nicest meals I’ve had in a long time. Delicious cocktails and a great atmosphere. Service was also on point. What a great place !!

The Sunday roasts were amazing, huge Yorkshire pudding & too much pork for me so my dog got a treat when I got home. 5 fish options on the specials board. Service was great. Staff really friendly. I will definitely return.

I had a great experience in this place. The food was excellent. I had the fish, and it was cooked perfectly, highly recommend.

We had a lovely evening, the ambiance was surprisingly good for a Monday night. We had some shared plates to start - we all agreed the arancini was superb. Three of us had the steak frites and one had the courgette main course, the presentation was good but personally I would have preferred shoestring fries that look a bit more like fries and less like potato shavings. We did get an order of chips (recommended by waiter) - these were chunky chips and consequently you only get three - they were delicious though. All in all a very enjoyable evening with everyone happy with their meal. The service was outstanding.

Favourite place in Bermondsey. Great food. The fish is always excellent, the hispi cabbage is to die for and the chunky chips are amazing. Start with the bread; you wont regret it. Delicious!

This resto is on a slightly expensive side but there was no dish that we didnt enjoy. It was our first time and we ordered several starters, and oh my! Arancini is too tiny but bursts in your mouth heavenly flavours and texture. Scallops, Asparagus, foccaccia, and liver parfait were all enjoyable. Too full for mains but that is for next time. Please do not ever change your Pavlova recipe, it is the best I ever had!

Awesome food and service. Not cheap but good quality. What did put me off were the cramped tables and the ambient noise levels. You could barely hear each other whilst trying to have a conversation. Shame really.

Excellent atmosphere, menu and food, reasonably priced in a stylish and fashionable area. Lots of items on the menu which I want to try so I will return to do do. Renovation has been tastefully done so the character of the old building has not been destroyed.
