I visited the Garrison for the first time with a friend for lunch and had a great experience. Exceptional and friendly service, a lovely buzzy atmosphere and excellent food. Between us we had foccacia, the queen scallop, beef short rib and the flat iron steak with hispi cabbage and charred tenderstem broccoli - all of which was delicious. For dessert we shared the cheesecake a and banoffee pie washed down with a glass of tawny port. I'd highly recommend the Garrison. It is a great place to go for lunch on a Friday in the heart of Bermondsey Street. I'll definitely go again.

Although the ambiance was somewhat challenged by the noise from roadworks outside, obviously beyond the restaurant's control, our meals were excellent and represented tremendous value. The venison was beautifully tender and the steak tartare a pleasant contrast. The booths are a little compact for four but for our party of three - one of whom is almost seven feet tall - it was good intimate space. Will certainly visit again.

Brilliant Sunday Roast and the staff there are so nice.

Excellent food (all had well-portioned Sunday roasts and puddings) and atmosphere. Service friendly, if a little slow at the start. The manager audibly advised staff to give us drinks and menus after we'd been waiting some minutes already. We felt a little pressured by the staff to hurry with time, even though we had booked a 7:15pm seating on a Sunday evening.

Excellent food, perfectly sized plates, and great service. Didn't feel rushed and everyone at the table had a great evening!

Lovely. Hands down one of the best Sunday roasts in London - lovely for a cold day. Very warm-hearted and thoughtful service too. Recommended!

We have, over the last 20 years, eaten at The Garrison at least twice a year and it has been one of our favorite restaurants when we visit London. We were again looking forward to eating there last Monday (13th January 2025) but unfortunately we were let down both by the service and the food. We ordered 2 starters each (something which we have done numerous times) and asked for a recommendation for a white wine to go with the Dressed Crab to be told by the waiter that he didn't know as they have just changed the wine list, normally we would expect that the waiter would be updated on what wines paired with what dishes but this was not the case. We then ordered Focaccia which turned out to be stale and hard, the excuse being that it had been baked the same day (no apologies for having to replace it). The replacement Focaccia needed salt and when we got the salt mill, there was no salt in it. The Dressed Crab was small but good and the next course which we then ordered was the Tartare. Unfortunately my wife found a long hair in her portion and on complaining about this we were told that it could not have come from the kitchen as they all have short hair - again no apologies for the fact that the hair was found but was told by the waiter that maybe my wife should have purple hair so it would be easier to see! The last course was the Corish Yarg which both of us had ordered. It was served in a haphazard way, 4 uneven slices of cheese a dollop of relish and 4 small biscuits. We had ordered two glasses of port but initially received only one. In conclusion, we were very disappointed with the meal and especially with the service received from the waiter who was both arrogant and rude and although we would like to think that this was a one off occurrence, it did put us off going again and if we did we would make sure that we did not have the same waiter

Great Sunday roast! I had the beef which was cooked amazingly so many different vegetables and the roast potatoes were fantastic! Good service too!

We are regulars at The Garrison. The best roast dinner in London by far. The roast we had this Sunday was off the scale delicious. They serve the best mains, deserts, wine and expresso martinis!! The staff are attentive and all super friendly. The restaurant is cosy with a lovely atmosphere. The only place I have the vegetarian option as their Wellington is superb. Perfect Sunday there. 10/10 Highly recommended.

Our group size kept changing though the staff wonderfully accommodated us. Always a joy here, will be back soon.

Fantastic experience at The Garrison. We had to change our plans a couple of times and they were very accommodating. Food was delicious, clearly quality produce and everything tasted fresh. The service was friendly and attentive. Lastly, excellent value for money. Overall, fine dining quality dishes in a relaxed atmosphere with lovely people that didn’t break the bank. A pleasure to dine here.

Food was overpriced for the portion sizes (especially the monkfish on the bone for £20 - hardly any meat). Drinks were fine except I got charged £3 for a bottle of tonic with my gin but it looked like only half the serving went into a glass full of ice (the bottle was not provided at the table for gin and tonic ordered). Service was fine but not particularly happy to be charged £15 service for a main course for 2 and 4 drinks each.

I've been at The Garrison a few times. They consistently delivers the finest Sunday roast in London, in my opinion. Generous portions, reasonable prices, and a commitment to sourcing high-quality, locally-sourced ingredients make it a standout. The service is also consistently excellent.

My mom, husband, daughter and I were lucky enough to snag a last minute booking at The Garrison on New Year’s Eve. We all enjoyed our meals, cocktails and the ambiance. We would visit this restaurant regularly if we lived in London!

Always delivers an excellent time and kitchen is top notch along with the front of house team.

We had a great time - we were warmly welcomed and my 3 year old nephew was dinning with us. The service was outstanding, we were given a lovely table and even a special Yorkshire pudding! Thank you for making our day special!

Cute place. Unfortunately we were sat at a corner booth in the back next to a very loud party of five placed at a four top. The server was polite but not attentive, she brought the wrong wine and we had to go to the counter to ask for our check after sitting at an empty table for awhile. Food was okay.

Ollie and the team at the Garrison pulled out all the stops for my wife’s Birthday. I changed our plans a couple of times and Ollie went above and beyond to make sure the night was a good one. Honestly can’t recommend enough - thank you guys! Food, ambiance, service - all 5 star!

We come here quite regularly but on this occasion it was a let down! The agency staff were not trained adequately, there was a dog next to us which we were not told about when booking and the food was bland! The main course of fish just had no taste. It was not stuffed monkfish but fish covered in loads of sauce. It is such a shame as this place is always lovely but on Christmas day the food was a let down. I would not recommend attending on Christmas day. The whole feel of the restaurant had no Christmas cheer, the staff were chasing their tails with no one to direct and the food arrived at the table with no communication on what it was & no cheery customer service. We had to ask for cutlery & wait quite a while to get drinks. Such a shame!

Terrible Christmas dinner. Tiny portions, we didn’t get what we ordered. Food provided was not what was advertised. It was evident they had run out of food. We asked to speak to the manager and he couldn’t be bothered to speak to us. Staff confrontational when we complained. £100 per person, terrible value. Got the bill discounted but did not make up, spoilt our Christmas Day celebration with friends. Garrison, do better, food is usually of a high quality and good value, a million miles from today’s experience. Won’t be back

Overall very disappointing. The vegetable side dishes were good, but the Beef Wellington was incredibly over cooked

Food was great (and genuinely appreciate its Christmas in what follows) but the staff all seemed really fed up and they had clearly not allowed sufficient time for bookings - we were late being seated which then continued for the people following…. Still had a fab night out but will maybe visit again outside of Christmas!

Some tables are very small. I am a stronger person so we had to switch tables cause it didn’t fit. but they were super helpful. it was quite loud but the food was really good and the place is pretty. but in average a realy nice restaurant

Loved the cosy and lively ambience. Good service. The waitresses were attentive and friendly. Food was good, too. I had stylish steak which was perfectly grilled to my liking, rare. Wish the portion was bigger, but ok. Sticky toffee pudding was delicious, which I don't normally go for.

Incredible food and service. Despite being a very busy Saturday they were very kind and patient, the food was delicious and the best turkey I’ve had despite being a big table!

Alas I was not able to dine at The Garrison. This is a review of the booking process and failure to communicate. Since the pub neither answers the phone, nor replies to email, prospective diners are forced onto an automated booking process, which takes card details as a surety agains no-show, with the threat of a £20 penalty payment. The system took my card details and ceased to communicate. No confirmation of booking whatsoever, by any means. I tried four times to communicate with the venue, without response to voice or emails. Really rude people. It is unclear whether I have a reservation, or whether I will be penalised. Best to go there in person, and not commit beforehand.

The restaurant was lovely with a lively atmosphere. The servers were very friendly but seemed a bit overstretched probably due to the restaurant being full up on a Wednesday evening so service was a bit slow for one course. The portions were a bit on the small side for the starter and side but very delicious.

£100 only for food at christmas on a set menu is ridiculous for the place, and also misleading as more than doubled the one advertised on the website and told about the change only afyter having booked. Obviously cancelled as we dont trust businesses that behave in such a way, and possibly not going there anymore in the future. It's just a gastropub in the end like many others

A restaurant that clearly cares. About the food, the atmosphere, the guests. Relaxing, informal but special at the same time. Loved it.

Sunday lunch was great - good meet, good potatoes, plenty of veg, perfectly cooked and nice gravy. One of the best roasts in London for sure. Only slight gripe is the seats down stairs not super comfortable- too high for the table.

I’ve been going to The Garrison for circa 15 years. I don’t know if it changed hands, but about 5 years ago the quality dropped. We had a lovely waitress today but past trips it’s been a mixed bag of indifferent staff with poor knowledge of food, zero knowledge of wine and limited customer service verging on not trying. But overall there’s a corporate feeling behind the eclectic furniture- an attitude of pack in the customers, serve middle quality food, and get them out the door fast. Today our main meal was in front of us within 5 mins of ordering it - we still hadn’t finished pre-food drinks, and the food was served cold and needed to be sent back. We had two courses - just over £200 bill for 3 of us. Plus we discovered the service charge doesn’t go to the staff. All in all a disappointing decline of a local restaurant. It’s become a blatant money making machine. I hope The Garrison ups its game considerably. But for now there are much better choices elsewhere.

We had a girl's Christmas lunch for 8 people on Saturday and were seated at the high table. We have all been to the Garrison over the years (from it's beginning) and it still remains one of the nicest little places to go along Bermondsey St. It's buzzy & cosy with lovely interiors. The high table isn't the most ideal as it's right by the kitchen and for the shorter people amongst us, not the most comfortable getting up and on the seats. But as it was the only table available when I booked that was the compromise. The xmas set menu was very reasonably priced. The roasts were good and my cod was lovely although the 'mussels' it was advertised with were - I'm pretty sure - actually clams. Or if they were mussels, they were the teeniest ones I'd ever seen! Due to it being so busy the turnover on tables is quite quick so once we'd eaten it was very much a 'we will get you the bill' scenario so we did feel a bit rushed sadly. The Garrison still feels like a trusty old friend - some of the food fell a bit short in places (eg the Burnt Cream pudding) but we left having had a lovely time and an enjoyable lunch and that's the main thing.

We arrived to a rather unwelcome greeting and luckily 1 member couldn’t join as the table we were put at was a booth which was extremely tight I had to flag someone over to give us menus and order drinks again not very welcoming I booked a Christmas get together but didn’t realise I had to prebook the Christmas menu so we had to choose from the standard menu which I was very disappointed with The food arrived and was very small we should have been recommended to add some sides as I ordered steak and literally had a plate of steak and a few crisps (dairy free they swapped the small mash) We all felt it was very over priced for what we had eaten I won’t be returning as there are lots of better places in London

Booked a Christmas dinner with friends here after long research but was very disappointed with the service. First, the restaurant was busy so it took a very long for us to be served even just drinks. I added a note to the reservation that my friend is vegan (and responded to another email on the morning of the reservation asking for any dietary requirements!), but when we arrived there were no vegan options on the standard menu. I had looked up the vegan option on the Christmas menu on the website before - but we couldn’t order from that menu as I didn’t specify that this was a Xmas party… you would think 99% of reservations in December are Xmas parties?? My friend then got offered a „lovely salad“ (it was 5c outside that night) or a soup which - surely every pub in London should have at least one decent vegan main meal nowadays?? She was then also served a side of fries with Parmesan on top, apparently the staff forgot within 5 minutes again about the dietary requirements. We wanted to order wine, but pretty much all the options were sold out, not sure which wine we got in the end but we all got the same type rather than different types we ordered… Two meals we received were wrong and had to be replaced. The chef also „forgot“ to add the topping on the pork belly, which my friend then got in a separate bowl… Conscious the pub was very busy that night, but that’s no excuse for such a poor quality of service. Nobody even acknowledged any of the mistakes or offered a free desert or drink in exchange…?

We had a nice meal, although our main meal took ages to arrive so we hadn’t finished our wine when they wanted to clear the table for the next customers. They were then funny about us wanting to finish our drinks at the bar saying it was too busy, however we did managed to sit at the bar in the end and it wasn’t too busy for us to stay. It is a nice, cosy restaurant and the food was good. We just felt a little hurried after our main which didn’t feel necessary and slightly spoilt the evening.

A fabulous dinner, the food was excellent. Our server was not the friendliest and certainly didn’t make us feel ever so welcome. At £70 per head I would have thought more of an effort could have been made. Ran out of draft lager half way through the meal.

A fantastic evening dinning at one of my favourite places in london. We used to live few doors down from the garrison back in 2012, and then moved away from Bermondsey to Dulwich - but it’s so nice to see the place still has exceptional service, great food - and all in a lovely atmosphere Great work TeamGarrison

The staff were lovely and attentive, and the food tasted good. However the portions were very, very small (particularly mains and sides). Two of our party ordered the gnocchi, and had we not been there to celebrate a birthday and no one wanted to make a fuss, we would have complained. The other meals (steak and Hake) were acceptable, but only just. We came to the Garrison to celebrate, as we have done in the past, but we are not likely to return. The food was delicious, but we all left feeling hungry, ripped off and tense - because no one wanted to state the obvious. The Garrison is not cheap and on this occasion was absolutely not worth the money. It was very disappointing and marred the occasion us.

There was no beer on tap when we arrived and no bottle alternatives. Eventually the beer pumps were fixed. I arrived 30 minutes early and asked to sit quietly and read my paper but was turned away. I went across the street and was welcomed with a G&T and excellent service. I will not rush back.

The roast was delicious and the service very good, just a shame we were on quite an uncomfortable high table with a baby but otherwise it was a fantastic experience.

El interior es rústico, con una mezcla de opciones de asientos: mesas altas, mesas estándar y asientos de bar. Si bien el menú es sencillo, las especialidades diarias agregan variedad, ya que los camareros sacan una bandeja de pescado fresco para que los comensales lo vean, un toque reflexivo que permite a los clientes apreciar las opciones y el tamaño de las porciones. Mientras que la ensalada de cangrejo, con colirrábidos y una mezcla de carne de cangrejo blanca y marrón, era excepcionalmente fresca y sabrosa, y el parfait de pato —una mousse de hígado de pato suave servida con un puré dulce y pan crujiente— estaba bien preparado, los asientos eran apretados e incómodos, especialmente en las mesas altas. Un extraño divisor en el centro de estas mesas las hacía sentir aún más constreñidas. Para la alimentación, el pez monje estaba excelentemente cocinado, cubierto con una salsa de hierbas y chile, y servido junto con una ensalada de hinojo y pepino. La solla estaba igualmente fresca y bien ejecutada, acompañada también de la misma salsa y ensalada. Las patatas fritas de la casa, un bloque de patatas en capas, eran especialmente notables. Sin embargo, el ambiente dejó mucho que desear. El ruido de fondo excesivo dificultó la conversación, con incluso la camarera luchando por escucharnos. Esto, junto con los estrechos asientos, restó importancia a la experiencia, eclipsando una comida por lo demás agradable.

Odd experience filled with nonsense. - Table: we were put on a high table even though half the restaurant was empty - waiter constantly trying to upsell (and definitely trying to scam us on payment) - food took 90mins to arrive. Duck overcooked. Filleted fish with so many bones it was inedible. - the bill was an absolute joke. Included extra meals, £9 for 3 bottles of water even though the waiter said it was free refills, corkage but we didn’t bring our own wine - for the price, expected the food to be spot on and on time. For the history of the place expected the staff to know what they were and not try to upsell and get a bigger tip. The latter made it completely awkward and ruined the meal in the end.

Great Sunday Roast and fantastic service - would highly recommend!

I am not usually one to leave negative reviews, however we were really looking forward to lunch at The Garrison last weekend and our experience did not live up to expectations. Firstly, while the staff were very polite and attentive, they did not allow us much time to browse the food and drinks menus. We felt pressured to order just to stop them interrupting us. Secondly, the food was extremely disappointing. My partner ordered the steak and requested it to be cooked medium. Bizarrely, the waiter told us that the steak could only be offered medium-rare or well-done. She opted for well-done, but what arrived resembled a charred, shrivelled up old boot. There was also a thick gristle running through the steak and it was frankly inedible. I ordered the fish and chips and while it was tasty, the portion size was inadequate at best. I had seen a picture on Google of a large piece of fish on a bed of chips with peas, tartare sauce and a lemon on the side, however what arrived was a half piece of fish with two chips and no sides. Given that the steak dish was £26 and the fish dish was £20, this felt like daylight robbery. It’s such a shame as it is a lovely looking restaurant in a fantastic location. But I’m afraid it’s a classic case of style over substance.

Service was lovely. Food was just a bit odd. If you like fish you will love it. If you don’t know it’s mostly about fish you might not. I don’t hate fish but don’t love it and would have preferred some other meat options. Plus the ‘chips’ are not chips. They’re a weird sliced potato and reformed to look like massive chips chip. My thoughts on this are that chips do not need to be messed with…let them be free…let them be chips.

Fantastic location and meal in a restaurant that is specialising in fish. I had the Skate wing which was perfectly cooked, delicious and great value. The other 3 meals were just as good and we all thought that the quality and service was excellent. Would definitely recommend and will be returning soon.

I recently had a Sunday roast that left a bit to be desired. While the food was served hot, the overall execution fell short. The chicken was unfortunately overcooked, leaving it dry rather than succulent. The roast potatoes, which are usually a highlight, lacked that perfect crispiness and felt underwhelming. To top it off, the gravy was far too thin, offering little in terms of richness or flavor to elevate the dish. Sadly, it didn’t quite live up to expectations for a hearty, satisfying Sunday roast.

Good veggie roast dinner option but preferred the nut roast that used to be on the menu. Roast potatoes were a little dry and vegetables weren’t hot, not very generous with gravy. However service was great and fast :)

We revisited an old haunt from living in the area…good food and atmospheric albeit not quite as casual as it used to be ….generally service was good until the end and a rude waitress cleared our table …..made up for by the pleasant manager who brought a complimentary glass of something to apologise.

As always the food was great. Had a reservation for a standard table but when we arrived there were none so they placed us at a high top shared by several patrons(clearly for walk ins) by the kitchen.

Lovely location and inside way cosy. The roast was good and we were quickly brought extra gravey however once we finished our food our drinks were cleared immediately even though we had time left in our booking. Even my water glass was cleared away which I didn’t like.
