Needs air conditioning it was stifling on a hot day especially the cafe. We couldn't eat there it was too uncomfortable. I felt sorry for the staff having to work in those conditions.

Huge range of garden and home stuff. Didn't have the 1/4 netting I needed. Didn't try the cafe.

Pricing mostly non existent. Things that were price tagged ridiculous prices. We will not visit again.

Don’t know what the negative reviews are about, the place is wonderful with plants at a very reasonable price. Lovely shop.

Fantastic selection of plants trees and shrubs. Onsite they have garden furniture and lots of different BBQ's. Christmas displays are spectacular such a wide range of glass ornaments. A large store, maidenhead aquatic that sells many different sized fish tanks a wide range of fish, fresh water plants and much more, the staff knowledge is excellent. Waitrose is also in the store... And much more.

Large garden centre with cafe. Typical Dobbies brand.

Love place! Has everything you could think of for gardening, furniture, and outside cooking! I loved all the fish and loads of stuff for pets! Also has a cafe, gift shop and little Waitrose. Well laid out, plenty of space to walk around. I was very impressed with Dobbies! Only down side is slight on the expensive side, but I have just moved around the corner, so extremely convenient, I will be visiting regularly!

Thought plants of decent quality and price, bought a feature wheelbarrow needed delivery and help to checkout, staff very helpful.

Went to the café for lunch. No tables to sit at as they were all full of dirty plates, cups, trays etc. Waited about half an hour for a toastie and a sandwich, no sight or sound of our food until we went up to ask, then it miraculously appeared. No apology for the long wait. Chips were undercooked, and the side salad was wrong. Food was nice enough when it arrived, but very expensive for what you get. Wouldn't recommend going here unless you're absolutely desperate.

Good garden centre and cafe id worth a visit

Great variety, but so much more expensive than other places for plants, outdoor furniture and other garden bits and bobs

Just called in Dobbies and thought we would grab a bite to eat. Went to order 2 jacket potatoes with mayonnaise and was told they had run out. 1pm on Sunday lunch and out of jacket potatoes in our opinion is really bad managing and the management should be looking into how this can happen. For my money catering staff responsible require replacement. Disgusted we left the place. My wife is gf so not a large choice from the menu

Very dark place, low ceiling makes it feel oppressive. No ice for drinks - not chilled.

The cafe is filthy. I felt unclean when walking out. Spider webs that have clearly been there many months with hundreds of flies in them, birds have made a mess. Then there's room temperature cold drinks, £0.80 for jam to go on a scone, multiple people asking us for sugar for their tea/coffee because they didn't get any, etc.

When reading other reviews I was wondering why they all just spoke of the cafe. Then I experienced it. It’s completely baffling that there’s no signage showing the menu - unless you spot a cake or pastry that’s on display, you’re left to pressure-pick something off of a sheet of A4 at the till. Wouldn’t it be better if customers could see a menu whilst queuing? The food itself, was actually better than I expected, but I played it safe with chips and panini (even though the panini wasn’t one). My partners jacket potato was very unpleasant. They’d run out of scones which was what they actually wanted. The cafe environment itself more resembles a sad office than a garden centre cafe. Suspended ceilings. No windows or natural light of any kind. Fluorescent lighting. Everyone who works here seems like they hate it, and I can understand why because I imagine they’re dealing with complaints on a regular basis.

Absolute terrible as a disabled person trying to push the trolley round the most uneven floor was a nightmare pulled something in my side. Then at the checkout operator said I was to close to the person in front I was six feet away. Won't be going back

Went today for our well earned Birthday Drink & Cake. We had the Fruit Scones & Latte. Scones were lovely as just out of oven. Jam was extra and extortionately priced at 79p!! Coffee could have been hotter. Staff polite and friendly 🙂 . All in all ok. Thank you. Steve B.

I thought my local Garden Centre was expensive but wow, you'll need to remortgage.

The toilets are absolutely disgusting in desperate need of a deep clean. They are extremely poor in a food area!

I rang in advance to check they had what I wanted. Some Gardena micro irrigation. But when I got there they didn't.

Rang 6 times this morning. Each time I pressed buttons for service, cafe, delivery stuff........nothing happened. 7th. Time someone answered very abruptly, told me they didn't have what I wanted and suggested B + Q. I won't bother them again for anything a customer might need. Sorry for getting in the way

Man working in the outside of the garden centre was very helpful finding plant prices for my husband - the stars are for him. The cafe is another story - the older male staff was rude & abrupt staying ‘read the sign!’ when I asked for coffees. The coffee machine wasn’t working, but as there are so many signs on that counter it didn’t stand out, maybe it should be placed at the beginning where the trays are to stop waisting time. (The other cafe staff are lovely). As regular visitors I think we’lll just visit the garden & shop areas in future.

We went out to buy grass seeds and walked out with a shopping trolley of seedlings. It's really a lovely shop with lots of pretty ornaments for the garden.

The cafe is very poor. The staff appeared stressed , there was no smiling or interaction just eye rolling. There was a flashing light just by the till which may not have helped.

We tried to get served but could not pay as they were going to turn the power off

Had a lovely lunch at Dobbies cafe. Freshly made sandwich, plenty of filling served with a lovely fresh side salad. All washed down with a really tasty pot of tea and americano coffee. Another visit to Dobbies. Great cake selection, piping hot coffee. Well worth a visit. Friendly staff

Dogs not allowed in cafe on stone floors with food dropped on floor by kids. Insulting and made to feel v unwelcome

Whilst the garden centre offers a wide range of essentials, the 'gentleman' who took our order at the cafe was one of the most miserable people in the place. The welcome received from this gent left a lot to be desired. Everything seemed like oo much of an effort and whilst all the ladies smiled and nothing was too much trouble... someone had definitely pinched the jam out of this guys doughnut. Its a good job the food was worth the wait otherwise I would have happily told him where he could stick his sandwich. It's a shame there's always one who doesn't want to put in the effort.

Needed some plants for a customer. They had a good selection of plants, and it is well laid out, normally go to trade outlets ,so this would be a one off but was a good experience

Terrible cafe experience. £37 for two hot drinks, two toasties, a slice of cake and a half children's sandwich. The cafe appeared to have no functioning heating, with all customers wearing coats, meaning it was very uncomfortable and not dissimilar to sitting outside on a. cold winter day. The food was poor quality, with very basic toasted sandwiches and stale cake that appeared to be from the day prior. We have visited Dobbies garden centres all over the country and the catering and environment is normally of a very good standard. It appears that Dobbies have completely given up on the York centre, with the majority of stock in the centre diminished, Christmas decorations still up and a general feeling of abandonment. This is such a missed opportunity in York where there are so few garden centres, and with the volume of passing custom on the ring road.

Went for 2 full breakfast not impressed wife asked for extra egg and no mushroom it came with extra toast no extra egg one piece is bacon which was dried up and hard only thing that was hot was the beans plate was cold which means all food goes cold very quick avoid at all costs

Used to come here many years ago for a mooch around and a decent lunch. Oh how it's changed. Avoid the cafe.

Can be pricey but we got some pizza burner accessories - not much outside due to time of year - lots of pointless tat inside but its good for a laugh - not sure why people would come here for a coffee - it was full of silver foxes - both on and off the shelves!!

The only reason I gave 3 stars is because we took our granddaughter to see Father christmas and she loved it the staff there were really good. Very chatty and I was impressed, they took time to chat and interact with her she's nearly 6, Then we had a look round not many people in so was good, the big mistake was visiting the cafe, I ordered a toasties, which wasn't great, cheap ham, but sold at a extortionate price, only ate a quarter of it, my husband ate the reminder, but we both felt sick after, the cup tea wasn't nice either weak, the coffee was just OK, had better, Don't think we will be returning anytime soon, . But father Christmas was worth it

Cafe doesnt get any better there was no Hello or Goodbye today it was almost all they could do to get our order, really Dobbies get your act together a bit of customer service would be welcome

Well laid out wide range of garden products. Plenty of car parking. Helpful staff and reasonably priced.

We buy our aquarium stuff from the shop at the back. Knowledgeable, friendly staff and fish are always healthy from there.

Quite poor and cafe nothing special

Worst garden centre! No standard compost today. Only 2 checkouts open and long queues. Customers abandoning baskets. Have a bad experience every time I come here.

Woman on till un cafe very rude when you are trying to see menu

Lots of leaks currently and wet items in the garden centre. Hot food is not served till 12 so lots of people didn't want to wait although signage says hot food from 11.30. waiter was getting lots of flak for this

Fantastic range of plants and everything you can think of under one roof

Was in the cafe for lunch at 12pm. There were four staff behind the counter, one of which (Scottish chap with glasses) was training two staff on how to use the coffee machine. We ordered coffees and the lady that took our order asked for them to be made and the trainer was extremely rude to her as he turned and said 'I'm trying to do some training here'. Myself and my friend were then shot a look from him like we were an inconvenience to him and his day. Firstly, who carries out training at 12pm on a Friday afternoon and secondly, this can wait when someone orders a coffee.

Really need to clean or replace the chair's in the cafeteria.

Just called in to look at artificial Christmas tree’s but they didn’t have a great variety

Visited the garden centre and cafe today. On the positive side the plants and other products were really good and nicely displayed, I'm afraid that's where it ends. The cafe shelves and surroundings were dirty, if I hadn't already ordered lunch for myself and family I would've left, it looked like there had been a leak in the ceiling which had run down the walls and no sign of it been remedied. The staff in the cafe all looked like they wanted to be somewhere else, no pleasant customer service at all, one member of staff bellowed that someone's tea was ready to collect, and when it wasn't collected a different member of staff walked empty handed to the very last table (which I might add was directly opposite the men's toilets) to tell them their pot of tea was ready!! The food was poor, egg sandwiches were tasteless and no water cress in them also the bread wasn't fresh and it was only 12:30,the pots of tea were okay but that's all. The roof above the indoor plants etc near the tills looked ready for falling down, all in all not a good experience apart from the lovely plants. We won't be back, that cost me £35 what a waste of money.

Visited the cafe today and was left underwhelmed. The place was busy, granted, but tables were left uncleared and dirty. The tea was served almost cold, the bread in the sandwiches was stale and dry and to put icing on the cake, saw chef licking a spoon whilst cooking. That did not inspire me. All in all not the most pleasant experience.

Good selection of plants on a decent sized footprint. Right next to the York outer ring road and the park and ride. Big car park, cafe, mini Waitrose, lots of departments. Worth a visit.

It is sad to say that a lovely garden centre is looking sad it has leeks in the roof, and what was a good caffe is now serving cheep bread and food is not what it was

A bit disappointing, it was nearly £18 for a breakfast bun with 1 piece of bacon and egg and a mushroom. A small breakfast with no toast and 2 basic coffees. It seemed expensive for what it was in a garden centre.

Went and bought plant’s decided to have coffee and something to eat was disappointed not much choice whole place was grubby dirty paper menus the older staff member who served was very grumpy felt as tho we putting him out been to other Dobbies around country and never been disappointed before .

Vast amount of plants,trees etc. Cafe inside centre,reasonable prices. Fence panels good quality and price. Would recommend a visit.

Only went for coffee and then to the indoor Sainsbury's but it was a good experience. Would have preferred not to queue at the checkouts with garden centre customers as there was a lot of soil on the counters.

Renew membership with free coffee/tea. Plants and flowers are fresh and special.
