Garden Kitchen Restaurant in York

Coffee was nice but lacked vegan/vegetarian options for food. The Waitrose section had almost no vegan options.

Been going to little seedlings club for around a year now and cannot express how much of a lovely experience it has been. The lady who runs it is kind and friendly and my daughter loves going to the club. Always get something from the cafe whilst there which has never disappointed. A walk around the shop afterwards is a pleasure also. Great experience.

Over priced plants lacking quality IMHO, staff friendly, but service is slow, and cashier was complaining to be on till when should be else where.

Cafe unwilling to even ask kitchen if they were willing to serve soup 5 mins after closing the kitchen. We'd been traveling for hours with a 5 year old. Went to McDonalds instead. Poor show.

Bit tired in places, especially the shabby café, but a great range of outdoor plants and trees.

Great if you have a loyalty card for cafe long wait for drinks etc but dog friendly plants are not that cheap.

Only went in for rhubarb, ended up buying alot more lol. Lovely cafe, plenty of plants , garden tools ,furniture, firepots etc, lovely staff would definitely recommend.

Delightful afternoon tea! Delicious, varied, and fresh. Served by Caroline, who was polite, helpful, and really made our experience a wonderful treat. A 5 star employee!

Seemed very tired, not many plants under the canopy area, stock that was in store seemed good but just not enough. Houseplants was probably the best area.

Woman working on the cafe was rude and snappy then waited until we had ordered to tell us that dogs weren’t allowed, this is interesting as there was a promotion next to the table saying to take a picture of your dog there.

The staff in maidenhead aquatics very very helpful and had everything we needed

Incredible experience to see Santa. The Grotto was magical and the children loved it. Kerry went out of her way to make everyone feel so welcome. The team must have worked so incredibly hard to get it to look like it did. It was amazing and personal . Santa was engaging and the children were so relaxed with him. Well done Dobbies. Five stars from us 👏👏👏

I’ve never given a review this low ever! Didn’t have the greatest experience… been to many Dobbies and they are generally fine. Maybe staff was just having a bad day, but they weren’t being very sympathetic to a family with two young kids… there is more to this… and wasn’t helped by the management ignoring our concerns. The lay out is confusing too boot.

Great place , good selection of flowers, bulbs and gifts. We called in for a couple of Americano coffees , very nice taste.

Was under staffed due to weather in cafe so we couldn't have food. Plenty to see and buy in garden centre.

Went to Dobbies for first time. Cafe stopped serving hot food at 2 pm but web site said 3pm, no reason given. Signage in store was abysmal. The only place that was good was the aquatic centre. Won’t be going to cafe again and even the menu was crap.

Ok for a trip been long time since been. Good selection plants,pots etc . Where they let you down was staff in cafe they was terrible the guy asked where was sitting there was no tables inside we didn't know was tables outside but had roof on he didn't say a think no smile not helpful at all. Went to table it covered but no heating on in there asked why?patio heaters would do. The lady that brought us toast was OK but the other lady we asked if tables was inside free she um and mutter but my daughter got 1 we moved the lady was a bit rude to mention to other customers she can't be bothered about the chair and tables were they were sitting as she was putting table cloth on 1 with reserved on. So sorry but if your not happy doing your job it definitely shows there are the worst cafe staff I come across won't be rushing back

I was hit by how cold the building was as soon as I walked in, it was slightly warmer in the cafe. When we walked back into the store it was freezing a member of the staff told us the boiler was not working. Not the best temperature for staff to work in . What comes first profit or staff working environment

Good variety but a little small

Pretty disappointing, the car park is what I imagine it would be like driving on the moon with multiple craters. Very strange shop with a tiny bit of various categories, they had an Aquarium shop at the back that was good. Their Christmas was part set up but had boxes and pallets dotted around on a Sunday making a lot of it inaccessible with a pushchair and the displays were not tied down. The man on the tills was really friendly and happy to be there but the rest of the staff couldn’t even smile or acknowledge anyone was there. Won’t be going back in a hurry.

Plenty of choice in both the garden centre and cafe over all good quality we visit atleast once a month.

Handy garden centre, we popped in here whilst we waited on our car charging at the nearby charge points. Had nice coffees, the staff were friendly.

I had the misfortune to leave an item on the counter . I realised as soon as I got home and immediately sent the manager an email.Well I am still waiting for a reply. Great customer service!

Started our car run here. 36 of us. Catered ok for us. Large garden centre with usual products for sale. Good car park easy to get to off York outer ring road.

The afternoon tea experience was wonderful. We booked an afternoon tea but the system didn't acknowledge it. However, the staff went above and beyond to set it all up for us as quickly as possible. They also upgraded all of our food and drinks and were very accommodating. Thank you! To top it all off, the food was delicious 😋

Nice garden centre with a lovely cafe. Always found whatever i’ve been looking for garden wise at competitive prices. there is also a food/ freezer section which stocks Cook meals which is handy to pick up something for tea. it’s a shame the car wash facilities have gone as it was handy to get car cleaned whilst visiting but i appreciate that was run by a separate operation from Dobbies. Close to Park and Ride too.

Stopped for hot food at 11.00am. several temp signs in serve area ' No hot food available '. ( Sat 14.9.24) Gents toilets hand blower/dryer not working but paper towels provided.

Local garden center!! Very well stocked and variety of goods on the shelves. Has a little cafe inside to enjoy a nice lunch or just a coffee whilst shopping.

Amazing & unique cinnamon buns!

Surprisingly huge shop including mini Waitrose.

Huge range of garden and home stuff. Didn't have the 1/4 netting I needed. Didn't try the cafe.

Needs air conditioning it was stifling on a hot day especially the cafe. We couldn't eat there it was too uncomfortable. I felt sorry for the staff having to work in those conditions.

Pricing mostly non existent. Things that were price tagged ridiculous prices. We will not visit again.

Don’t know what the negative reviews are about, the place is wonderful with plants at a very reasonable price. Lovely shop.

Fantastic selection of plants trees and shrubs. Onsite they have garden furniture and lots of different BBQ's. Christmas displays are spectacular such a wide range of glass ornaments. A large store, maidenhead aquatic that sells many different sized fish tanks a wide range of fish, fresh water plants and much more, the staff knowledge is excellent. Waitrose is also in the store... And much more.

Large garden centre with cafe. Typical Dobbies brand.

Love place! Has everything you could think of for gardening, furniture, and outside cooking! I loved all the fish and loads of stuff for pets! Also has a cafe, gift shop and little Waitrose. Well laid out, plenty of space to walk around. I was very impressed with Dobbies! Only down side is slight on the expensive side, but I have just moved around the corner, so extremely convenient, I will be visiting regularly!

Thought plants of decent quality and price, bought a feature wheelbarrow needed delivery and help to checkout, staff very helpful.

We have been before and find it is not cheep.but we did buy 2 reduced plants

Went to the café for lunch. No tables to sit at as they were all full of dirty plates, cups, trays etc. Waited about half an hour for a toastie and a sandwich, no sight or sound of our food until we went up to ask, then it miraculously appeared. No apology for the long wait. Chips were undercooked, and the side salad was wrong. Food was nice enough when it arrived, but very expensive for what you get. Wouldn't recommend going here unless you're absolutely desperate.

Good garden centre and cafe id worth a visit

Great variety, but so much more expensive than other places for plants, outdoor furniture and other garden bits and bobs

Just called in Dobbies and thought we would grab a bite to eat. Went to order 2 jacket potatoes with mayonnaise and was told they had run out. 1pm on Sunday lunch and out of jacket potatoes in our opinion is really bad managing and the management should be looking into how this can happen. For my money catering staff responsible require replacement. Disgusted we left the place. My wife is gf so not a large choice from the menu

Very dark place, low ceiling makes it feel oppressive. No ice for drinks - not chilled.

The cafe is filthy. I felt unclean when walking out. Spider webs that have clearly been there many months with hundreds of flies in them, birds have made a mess. Then there's room temperature cold drinks, £0.80 for jam to go on a scone, multiple people asking us for sugar for their tea/coffee because they didn't get any, etc.

When reading other reviews I was wondering why they all just spoke of the cafe. Then I experienced it. It’s completely baffling that there’s no signage showing the menu - unless you spot a cake or pastry that’s on display, you’re left to pressure-pick something off of a sheet of A4 at the till. Wouldn’t it be better if customers could see a menu whilst queuing? The food itself, was actually better than I expected, but I played it safe with chips and panini (even though the panini wasn’t one). My partners jacket potato was very unpleasant. They’d run out of scones which was what they actually wanted. The cafe environment itself more resembles a sad office than a garden centre cafe. Suspended ceilings. No windows or natural light of any kind. Fluorescent lighting. Everyone who works here seems like they hate it, and I can understand why because I imagine they’re dealing with complaints on a regular basis.

Absolute terrible as a disabled person trying to push the trolley round the most uneven floor was a nightmare pulled something in my side. Then at the checkout operator said I was to close to the person in front I was six feet away. Won't be going back

Went today for our well earned Birthday Drink & Cake. We had the Fruit Scones & Latte. Scones were lovely as just out of oven. Jam was extra and extortionately priced at 79p!! Coffee could have been hotter. Staff polite and friendly 🙂 . All in all ok. Thank you. Steve B.

The toilets are absolutely disgusting in desperate need of a deep clean. They are extremely poor in a food area!

I rang in advance to check they had what I wanted. Some Gardena micro irrigation. But when I got there they didn't.

Rang 6 times this morning. Each time I pressed buttons for service, cafe, delivery stuff........nothing happened. 7th. Time someone answered very abruptly, told me they didn't have what I wanted and suggested B + Q. I won't bother them again for anything a customer might need. Sorry for getting in the way

Man working in the outside of the garden centre was very helpful finding plant prices for my husband - the stars are for him. The cafe is another story - the older male staff was rude & abrupt staying ‘read the sign!’ when I asked for coffees. The coffee machine wasn’t working, but as there are so many signs on that counter it didn’t stand out, maybe it should be placed at the beginning where the trays are to stop waisting time. (The other cafe staff are lovely). As regular visitors I think we’lll just visit the garden & shop areas in future.

We went out to buy grass seeds and walked out with a shopping trolley of seedlings. It's really a lovely shop with lots of pretty ornaments for the garden.

The cafe is very poor. The staff appeared stressed , there was no smiling or interaction just eye rolling. There was a flashing light just by the till which may not have helped.

Had a lovely lunch at Dobbies cafe. Freshly made sandwich, plenty of filling served with a lovely fresh side salad. All washed down with a really tasty pot of tea and americano coffee. Another visit to Dobbies. Great cake selection, piping hot coffee. Well worth a visit. Friendly staff

Dogs not allowed in cafe on stone floors with food dropped on floor by kids. Insulting and made to feel v unwelcome
