Excellent food and service. We went with our three children, early in the evening twice. We had the japchae, bibimbap, and bulgogi. We also had the kimchi pancake, kimchi, and vegetarian dumplings as a starter. All were outstanding.

Thoroughly enjoyed my recent visit here. We had a couple of light starters and then I took the barbecue pork belly and my wife the barbecue chicken. Both were superb and as we are trying to ease up on carbs very excited to eat with lettuce leaves and that actually enhances the flavour! Overall superb!

I had hot-pot bibimbop and liked it. It's seasoned just right (not too salty, greasy, etc). It shares some characteristics that probably stand out only (?) to American travelers, with other restaurants in UK. That is, the portion is small, and the price not cheap. So if you don't want to spend whole lot of money for regular dinner, stick with chains like wasabi, pret-a-manger, etc.

I live around the corner of this place and thought I'd check it out for lunch. We were a bit skeptical as when we entered there was no one: customer or staff. We stuck to our choice and went for the lunch box (priced at £17 I think) and we did not regret it. The food was nice and the portion was huge and filled us to perfection. The waitor was super friendly and explained to us a few things about Korean food. The restaurant is really good but also more pricy then other Koran restaurants but less pricy then the neighboring restaurants. They also have a hot/cold air conditioning. CONCLUSION: would recommend and will be back to try more things. PS: I'd try the Kimchi Pancakes also, they were a delight

It is very outstanding restaurant, although it's quite small place. This place is not cheap, but taste is good enough for price. It has very good beef menu with 5 kinds of salts. I like that. Also, the Korean typical dishes were also good. The service was good enough to say thank you.

We went there for a dinner and food is amazing... service is good until we order take away, but they make sure is all together very quickly. Highly recommended for a high end Korean food. We had three pickles as pre starters, potato noodles, fried chicken with Korean spicy sauce, kimchi pancake, beef bim bim bam with miso soup , BBQ pork belly , tenderloin, and beef ribs! They are doing amazing food, and wish they have more choices on the BBQ menu. Price is a bit pricy comparison with normal Korean restaurants. However, food quality and service are good to pay for.If you ask me, the best Korean food in the London city, the answer will be Gaon.

If your in the area and want to try something different this is quite an acceptable place to dine. It's not gourmet, nor above average. it's just decent food. The spicy beef and pickled cabbage were tasty but portions rather small. How much does cabbage cost? These are the two dishes that stand out in my memory. The wine list is small and mostly New World but both price and quality reasonable for this part of London. The restaurant is small and if you like bling you will enjoy it. I, personally, prefer a quieter, subdued ambience.

I'm a Korean aficionado and this place is pretty special with unique positioning. Most Korean restaurants make little attempt at attracting non-Korean customers. This place is the exception. The chic decor is the first positive impression that greets you at this Brompton Road venue. They have a nice candle lit room in the back and equally nice seating downstairs. The food more importantly is calibrated to appeal to those unfamiliar with Korean food. The menu is all in English with English names for the various options. Example: "Pajeon" is listed simply as seafood pancake. But that in no way detracts from the high quality or authenticity. The BBQ is beautifully presented on mini grills with live charcoals underneath for example. The kimchi is exceptionally fresh. The tofu kimchi is divine. Even the ginseng tea is of the highest quality. It is true that this place is a bit expensive compare to standard Korean fare like BiBiGo but the quality is superior and the venue more intimate. Whether you have consumed as much kimchi as I have over the years or not, you will not regret your visit.

Decided to try a new restaurant in London, and the choice landed on Gaon. We went for a set menu, and chose between the various options. After waiting for what felt like ages, the lukewarm soup arrived. It totally lacked flavor, and our expectations really sank. The set menu was priced at 35 pounds per person, which is quite a bit when it comes to Asian cuisine (when not talking Michelin standard). The next dishes that arrived were very different. 1 really lacked presentation, with 2 shrimpcakes just planted onto the plate with a bowl of soysauce next to it. The other dish was really propped up with lots of different sauces smeared around, various towers built of the different ingredients etc. Really got the short end of the stick on this one. Then came 1 pork and 1 chicken dish. They were identical with the only difference being the meat. The pork was extremely fatty, and kind of hard to chew. It did taste of barbecue so that was a good thing. The chicken on the other hand was really good. Full of flavor, and juicy. The desert was a plain and simple green tea ice-cream. Not the best that I have had. The service was a bit off at times. Friendly, but slow and not too attentive. When having a tasting menu, rhythm is everything. To be served lukewarm dishes with sometimes 20 minutes of waiting between each dish it can get a bit tiresome. We would have felt ok just leaving after the soup, and was actually contemplating it.

My husband and I decided to try a different cuisine on our last night in London and we went into the restaurant based on previous reviews. What struck me was that this Korean restaurant did not serve banchan (Korean side dishes) which is a mark of a typical korean restaurant. Side dishes had to be ordered separately whereas in Korea or even in Singapore where I am from its given for free and refillable in restaurants.Between us we ordered the kimchi pancake and bbq pork and beef. Kimchi pancake was nice but portion was small. The bbq meats were served in hot plates on top of a charcoal 'stove'. The meats were tasty enough but nothing astounding.Overall the price of the meal certainly did not justify the quality and quantity. Do not waste your time here.

Before eating at Gaon Resturant i'd never tried Korean food before, but on recommendation booked a table and have been singing its praises ever since. On arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome reception and showed to our table which was in a quaint private room at the back. Looking at the menu, I knew I wanted to try everything as it all sounded delightful. There were too many dishes to remember, but all were fabulously presented and every new mouthful was as pleasing to the taste bud as the last dish. I was super impressed with the service, and they quality of food was exceptionally good. The black cod was the highlight for me. Definitely order this dish and definitely go to this restaurant. Absolute treat!

After looking and the menu and realising that i wanted absolutely everything on it, we decided to just order a large selection and pick.. There was not one plate that didn't get hoovered up by our entourage- everyone left with full tummies, wanting to go back. Considering we were quite a rowdy bunch, the staff were more than accommodating. There is also a lovely private room at the back for big parties, while the front of the restaurant boasts a contemporary, semi-alfresco feel for those warm summery nights. If you have never tried Korean food before, i couldn't recommend a better place to start!Enjoy!

Gaon is a Korean Barbeque place that offers classic Korean dishes set in an upmarket atmosphere.I have lived in Seoul and Korean BBQ is one of the tastiest styles of cooking there is out there (although surprisingly uncommon in London). My girlfriend had not tried it before, and so I hoped the food would be as good as i know it can be. I was not disappointed - Bolgogi, Kalbi, chicken skewers were all delicious and were served in the traditional Korea way (with lettuce, red bean paste, spring onions, garlic and chilli) and some of the starters were great too.The wine was very good, there was a good selection of Asian beer, a great hot and cold Sake menu and Korean Soju (a sort of mild sweetish and pleasant rice vodka) which you drink neat.Service was stand out fantastic. Not that the food came quickly (it comes, in the Korean manner one dish at a time), but that the staff and maitre d' were extremely kind, funny and welcoming to every person in the small restaurant. The maitre d' even has an iPad and asks people whether they have eaten Korean BBQ before - if not he shows them pictures of what to order on the iPad. It's a nice touch and keeps them from putting any sort of pictures on the menu (that Asians often do, but westerners hate). Jay, the owner/maitre d' was very accommodating and spent time talking at each table - it is a small enough restaurant that this will continue to be possible even as the place becomes undoubtedly more popular.Atmosphere was elegant and understated. It is hard to discern from the outside that it is a Korean restaurant, and it is relatively small (probably 6 tables). There is a larger room at the back that can be separated off that sits around ten people - so large parties can go. Music was turned down to a minimum which was a pleasant surprise.Value for money - I ate my fill (several shared starters and several shared main dishes) and I am not a small guy, and had a few drinks. All in all it was a medium spend night - around £70 a head all in - even comparable with any upmarket pub in the area. These guys have a late license too, are not using it yet, but I'm interested to see how it turns out.I am definitely going here again - and I would recommend it to everyone.
