Ganges in Wiltshire

I come to Ganges with my family. We have been coming for years now for our Birthdays etc. Lovely restaurant staff are very friendly always helpful and always makes us feel welcome. I order my usual Lamb Biryani the food has always been really nice and warm. My food also comes on time even when it gets very busy in there. The dessert is also good to eat. Never had no problems atall with anything the staff and the owner always comes to our table too see how everything is food etc. The service is 100% good. Always been a happy customer. Will return soon to eat again. Thank you Ganges Restaurant❤️

I come to Ganges with my family. We sometimes come to Ganges for our Birthdays etc. Lovely restaurant, we always feel welcome when we walk in. Staff are all friendly and helpful. I order my usual Lamb Biryani the food is always warm always comes on time aswell. Lovely food the dessert is nice aswell. I have always been a happy customer. Great service. I will return again very soon :)

We hadn't visited for a while, very busy at the weekends, massive menu to make your selection. Complimentary drinks at the end, very nice. We recommended to friends and they went the following day.

The Ganges is usually our “go to” for a take away, however we were very disappointed with our experience this evening. We pre-ordered our curry to be delivered at 7pm. It did not arrive so we called for an update at 7:30pm and was told that the food was ready but that they were waiting for a delivery driver. We called again for an update 20 minutes later and we were told that the food was out for delivery and “should” be warm. The food finally arrived at 8pm and was lukewarm. I called to express our disappointment, and they suggested that it was unlikely to be warm as it was a 25 minute drive away. We live 10 minutes away and we haven’t experienced any issues before! Although they did apologise, they were not prepared to offer a partial refund or voucher, and suggested that they could give us a couple of free poppadoms on our next order… I appreciate that they were busy, but the service was well below their usual standard and the manager’s approach was rude and unpleasant. Unfortunately we are unlikely to order from them again and could have been resolved with some reasonable customer service.

ordered a delivery today due for 7pm arrived at 745pm . I called the restaurant requesting a eta they sounded very busy they explained they was overwhelmed with orders tonight due to weather conditions and that the order was behind schedule by half hr . I was happy to wait when food arrived the driver confirmed how busy it was and I was very happy with the service and quality of food . everything turned up hot and delicious thank you Ganges for turning a negative review into a positive one . see you soon

We ordered a regular Birthday takeaway tonight (2nd Jan) and it was absolutely gorgeous. Tikka masala, bhuna and Dopiaza were all cooked beautifully. And they came with a nice bottle of red wine for new year.

40 minutes passed by after we'd ordered. Turned out we'd been forgotten about! Waited another 15 minutes before receiving our meals. Not particularly good service to say the least. Didn't realise prices didn't include VAT, which was added afterwards on receipt I wasn't expected to keep. They also had the nerve to add a 10% service charge after keeping us waiting all that time! Which, apparently, was at my discretion, but the bill was whipped from my hand before I could read that! Small Cola was £3.10. Single, spiced rum and coke £8.05! Who checks drinks prices before menus are whipped away? Oh! The food? Passable. Very expensive restaurant, and not too warm inside either! My good lady regretted taking off her coat! Won't be going back - ever! (I kept the bill, despite being asked to hand it back over)

Really enjoyed the welcoming and lively atmosphere at the Ganges as soon as I came in. This was my first time here and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious and the service was prompt. Loved the lamb and chicken curry, as well as the tarka daal and aloo saag, everything was great and affordable. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend and will definitely be coming again with friends and family!

Had a takeaway tonight. Not happy at all. The food was luke warm and not very tasty. My wife had the tandoori prawns. She had 6 prawns which cost £16. They were supposed to be king prawns but we're tiny. She rang but the staff weren't helpful. Not going to eat in there anymore or order takeaways.

1st take out very disappointing. Food was sub standard and most went in the bin. Emailed restaurant and no reply. Won't get a TO again!

Fantastic meal with work colleagues, always great food and good service.

Ordered take out the first in a while but have always chosen Ganges. I contemplated trying a different curry house but stuck with what we knew. However, I was a little underwhelmed with the meal. Masala sauce was runny the chicken pieces where smaller than ever, rice portion smaller, Bombay aloo no tomatoes in it but did have a nice flavour. 2 Nan bread were ok, They forgot to put in the popadom we ordered. This meal was £25 before 10% collection discount, where by last year we would have paid £19 and would have got bigger portions on sundries plus we always got a free popadom, salad with lemon and mint yoghurt sauce thrown in. Overall the meal was average, was edible but nothing to write home about. Unfortunately, my next take out curry will not be from Ganges as for me they have lost that little special touch they used to have. Update 23/11/24 - after a year of not going to ganges we decided to give it another go and have to say we were equally disappointed very bland runny masala sauce, the bombay had some nice spice but this has sealed the deal for me we won't be going back. I have added a photo and video of the latest meal.

Top service, Top food, Top atmosphere

Really enjoyed the meal. Fresh poppadoms, and the Nagawala curry - hot! - was very good. Great garlic naan as well.

Sadly the food wasn’t very exciting. I had only seven tiny bits of chicken in a vat of sauce that I didn’t know what to do with. Had bhajis and peshwari naan too, which were fine but nothing to write home about.

Once again, my wife and I placed an order for delivery. All the food was absolutely delicious - beautifully cooked meat, tasty chunky veg, and devine sauces & seasoning. We've been ordering meals from the Ganges for a number of years, and not once have we been disappointed. And there is sooo much choice - my wife is vegetarian, and she's spoilt for choice. Furthermore, there's a 'pencil' icon alongside the dish in the basket, which gives you the opportunity to leave the chef a msg regarding the dish -- eg, I love a really hot curry, and nowhere else have I been able to order online, a very hot Korma. Yes I know that's unusual, but why shouldn't I enjoy the beautiful flavours of a Korma, with some heat. I really don't understand how The Ganges isn't the Number 1 top restaurant in the area. If you haven't yet visited the restaurant, or ordered a curry from them online, please do so, as you won't be disappointed. This is Very Good I had an overnight stay in a local hotel and just fancied an Indian, so went here, and I am glad I did. Service (all staff) wonderfully friendly with the Shammi kebab huge and really tasty. The lamb vindaloo was also spot-on as well as the keema rice. Next time I am in the area, guess where I will be going.😁😁😁👍👍

Good Little find , was staying in the area for work and was recommended by the landlord of the hotel I was staying in . Didn't disappoint lamb was soo tender. Highly recommend.

Take away.. Tarka dhal was tasteless watery like lentils chucked in dishwater, pilau rice was lumpy, madras chicken was not spicy and chicken seemed stale ,we will never be back , if this place is worth 4 stars then people using it have no idea, I've eaten curries since 1970s , seems in swindon area and wooton basset Indian restaurants think they can throw any rubbish at you , big mistake, we are avoiding them, my love for curry is being killed off by very very bad standards.

I went to Ganges for a nice dinner with my friends and was pleasantly surprised by how hospitable and friendly the staff were. The food was delicious and the portion sizes were great. I will definitely be coming again and have recommended it to my family too.

Recently moved to Royal Wootton Bassett. Thought to try some local Indian cuisine and ordered a takeaway from Ganges on the high street. What we received was all I can say was the worst curry ever. The sauce was so runny on dishing it onto your plate it just flowed everywhere drowning the rice and onto the work top. Should have used a sive first. You live and learn will not visit again. This was my first and last visit

I eat out alot so im usually quite critical but i cannot fault this place amazing food! quality meat! cooked perfect! check the menu also quite a few special dishes ive never seen anywhere else friendly staff good vibe im going for the full monty 5 star for me thanks again will be back soon! 42 year reunion. End of night curry. One starter a little wayward but otherwise good. Could do with 2 toilets. Plenty of room, you could catch a taxi from the door to the WC!

I recently had an amazing dining experience at Ganges. They have a wide variety of dishes everything to choose from, and let me tell you, the food is incredibly tasty! Went there and the food was very Bland the staff are very miserable and u complain about the food and they don't care very over priced for poor food , afford at all costs .

Been coming here since 1993 always get looked after at Ganges. food is excellent and I get treated like family. They have a personal relationship with all their regulars which is great.

Starters nice, mains ok. Some staff nice some staff very rude. Very cold inside. Food made me poo excessively a few hours later.

Lovely meal we had the Chicken Tikka tandoori, chicken Kurma, and chicken Tikka Bhuna, together with the best onion bhaji . Tender chicken and lovely service.

My wife and I regularly get takeaway curries from the Ganges in Royal Wootton Bassett. My wife is vegetarian, and the choice of dishes she can have is vast. I particularly love their lamb, always so tender and tasty - recommended. Furthermore, there is a msg option for every item on their menu (available as you check out your order), where you can ask for minor adjustments. For example, I love very hot curries, and normally you can't have a Korma, that hot. But you can at the Ganges - just write a msg and you'll get a curry just as you like it. My wife also finds this useful and gives her an even greater selection to choose from. She loves the Baingan Mirchi Ka Chalon (Baby aubergine curry), but the traditional dish is far to hot for her. We leave a msg alongside the curry asking for a mild, korma strength, curry, and it's just as she would choose to have it. How accommodating is that? There are no other curry restaurants that I know of, that are that amenable. All the dishes are beautifully cooked and full of flavour, and always hot when delivered. Thank you Mijan, you have a wonderful restaurant - please pass on our thanks to all of your staff, including your delivery drivers.

Extremely accommodating, friendly happy polite staff, delicious food

By far our favourite Indian restaurant! The food is always exceptional, as is the friendly service! We come as regularly as we can and always choose the Ganges for family celebrations, they never fail to make the occasion even more special. I can't recommend them highly enough!

Food was average, staff were friendly but seemed confused about our food. Place needed an upgrade looked tired. Would not go again

If I could do no stars I would ordered 3 curry’s and rice came to an extortionate price, food arrived after an hour and 20 minutes. Food was okay not worth the price ordered a garlic naan however received a cold naan bread with a little bit of garlic paste thrown on it, was disgusting. Curry was bland no meat. Feels as if they are cutting costs while making the customer pay more than usual. You’d think for such a price some poppadoms would be included, it’s the little things that make a difference.

Takeaway delivery took over an hour to arrive. My curry was bland and tasteless, the rice too oily, excessive use of yellow spice causing my plate, hands and everything else it touched to stain. The chapati was wrapped in a plastic bag rendering it a warm stodgy mess. The other dishes that completed our order was equally poor. Standards of service and food quality have definitely dropped at Ganges whilst prices continue to increase.

1st time order wont be our last great food highly recomend great all round service.

Came in on Saturday night restaurant was heaving, Managed to get a table without booking but was told before seating that from the time of order food would take around an hr to arrive . We was fine with this as wasn't in a rush . Can I say the food was worth the wait service was excellent considering the atmosphere was lively. Will be back again .

Each of the four of us had different meals & each meal looked brown, unappetising & were over seasoned. The breads were dry & the tarka Dahl salty. £42 each including a beer ….. so disappointed. The service was terrible but they were busy so giving them the benefit of the doubt. This was our first visit and we won't be repeating it!

If you want your mains shoved on top of your starter 2 minutes into getting your starter then enjoy. Had to ask for cutlery, to have dirty plates removed, menus just left on the table, when our beer was empty never once asked for a fresh beer. Staff totally disinterested. As a world traveller, the worst Indian restaurant I have ever been too. Even worse this happened a few weeks again and I gave them a chance as I felt it could have been a bad night. No, exact replica of that night. Poor service and shocking food. Nothing was right about the night. I advise go to Chillies if you want a curry with at the very least customer service! Never again!

Another event and meal to remember. My wife and I are regulars at The Ganges, as the choice of food, and all the dishes are *wonderful*. When our family visit, they all request that one of our meals be a curry from The Ganges - that says a lot for the quality of the food. On Wednesday 6 December, we were invited to dine at the restaurant, and have a complimentary meal to join in the restaurant's celebrations of their 30 successful years running the restaurant. And wow, what a lovely evening it was. We were astonished at the number of people that attended and it was clear that so many customers felt the same as we do about the restaurant. The food that evening was scrumptious, the place was filled with merriment, and Mijan and his team did a great job at looking after everyone. Mijan, despite the pressure with so much going on (restaurant packed out, free beers/soft drinks to serve, buffet to organise and serve), etc) he remained as cool as a cucumber throughout our stay. How lucky we all are to have such a wonderful curry house in our town. 30 years so far, and we're sure, another 30 years to come. Well done Mijan, and his whole team, including his drivers. Long Live The Ganges !!!

We visited your restaurant last night, Wednesday 6 December, as part of your 30 years trading celebrations. Everyone was fed free and a pint included too if wanted. It was a lovely evening, very community spirited. Food was great, atmosphere too. What a lovely way to celebrate and we met some fabulous people whilst there too. A I've been visiting the Ganges for many years now, as part of a couple and also within a large group from a local sports venue. I always found Enam and now Mijan and their staff to be extremely welcoming and professional and in all my visits, have never had cause to complain. Tonight was the icing on the cake as part of the Ganges 30th anniversary of trading, they hosted a free buffet curry and beer evening and , although demand seemed greater than they anticipated, the service was exemplary even though they were under a lot of pressure and the food was outstanding. I hope that this wonderful gesture is reciprocated by the customers by returning and sampling the rest of their wonderful menu.

This is our "go to" curry house. Today was their 30th birthday. The food is so tasty especially the chef special Murgh-e-azam. But more than that, the owners, Mr Chowdhury, and his late father Enam, have given thousands of meals to those in need in Wiltshire during COVID and supported the poor with charitable ventures in India - another great reason to support local independent restaurants.

My wife and I regularly get takeaway curries from Ganges Indian Cuisine. We've had many different dishes from their considerable selection. Delivery takes about 1hr, but we negate the wait, by preordering online. The ordering system is straightforward and easy to do, and even has a search facility to find specific dishes quickly. There is even the option to leave a simple msg, or request, alongside each dish (eg. may I have this curry at Vindaloo strength). The dishes are delicious, and the portion sizes good. The lamb is particularly tasty and always very tender. The delivery drivers provide a wonderful delivery service, and they're always very friendly, and polite. I've now got to know the owner, Mijan, who is clearly very passionate about his business and providing the best possible quality food, and service, to his customers. I can highly recommend the Ganges Indian Cuisine restaurant.

Very pleasant atmosphere, food came out quick and it was delicious!

Nice family friendly restaurant, great with kids. Food takes awhile to come but worth the wait. Would definitely recommend reserving a table as this is prioritised over walking in customers. Will definitely be back for more.

Friendly staff, excellent food at good prices.

Took nearly an hour to arrive. When arrived, the greasy curry had leaked in the bag. The garlic naan had raw garlic ALL over it which had sweated causing the naan to be what can only be described as wet! The popadoms were stale and basically bendy! The chicken in the curry was the dry despite it being in a sauce! Curry was so spicy it made me sweat despite it being a ‘mild’ curry! Overall…. Would NOT recommend

Excellent service and excellent food.

Take out .. Took me out! We had a simple dish for takeaway . Chicken Korma and chicken tikka with rice and Nan bread. My korma didn’t actually taste right but we had been out all day and was hungry. 4 hours later violent vomiting for almost 5 hours was not a very nice experience and you know when it’s the food you w eaten previously. I will not be returning to Ganges therefore can only advise people to be wary about what you order from these guys .

Went with my wife a couple of days ago. Big menu, so we couldn't decide. The server suggested a chicken dish and a lamb dish. Popadoms were amazing, and the sauces top quality. The chicken curry had tikka pieces and minced chicken. It was a first for us, but just wow. It was so tasty! We didn't like our lamb dish as it was chewy. The chef took it away and brought us a different lamb curry as per our liking, freshly cooked. Best food, great service, felt homely. Will 100% recommend it to everyone and will be visiting again and again.

Got a curry from here on 19th August and will not be going back. Will try other Indian restaurant in the area next time. Curry was extremely runny & watery. Not how it should be. Chicken was also solid and was definitely overcooked. Keema Naan was good though to be fair. Ganges is expensive as well compared to other restaurants in the area. I thought given their star rating it would be worth the money but sadly not.

Ordered a delivery (via Just Eat), came promptly, and the food was universally excellent quality with generous portions. Special mention for the veggie curry dishes, which were full of a good variety of vegetables and obviously carefully thought out. Would definitely recommend this place.

We used to be fairly regular here for a number of years and moved over to Chilli's as it was just so much better. Now the latter has gone downhill we have had three meals this year at the Ganges. Everything is OK but not much more than that. It is certainly way quieter than it used to be years ago and cannot help feeling if they went up a gear then people woud return. The Poppadoms had clearly been sitting around a bit. At each meal we have had onion bhajis and have to say they were the worst ever tasted. Always recooked at least once and very poor. On the plus side the staff are friendly and efficient and the menu comprehensive. It really could be better.

First time ordering from Ganges as I don't live in the area. Ordered and was told 20 minutes as it was Saturday night. Had a beer whilst waiting then my food arrived. I've eaten biriani in many Indian restaurants but never one as delicious as this. Plenty of chicken a generous amount of veg curry. Such a large portion and definitely value for money. Take a bow Ganges. Luckily my daughter lives nearby so I'll be eating in the restaurant next time

We ordered a takeaway for 4 people and sadly all the main curry dishes had an extensive layer of ghee floating on the surface which has never been the case with previous meals from the restaurant, Despite spooning off the excess ghee, the curry tasted...

Booked with a very large party that pre ordered and pre paid for a late evening meal. I expected that, because of the size of our party, service would be a little slower but wasn't expecting to wait 1.5hrs for food. In fact others in the party had eaten and left before my table's food arrived. The food was tasty enough, though my naan was burnt on one side, but not tasty enough to make it worth waiting so long for.

Best Indian I've ever had tbf. The staff are amazing, I'm unusually tall and they shifted tables around during a busy service so I can fit my legs under. Chicken zira starter is a must . Really can't rate this place enough, when ever we have people come and stay from Essex we take then here and we've never had a single complaint. Honestly if you're anywhere near here you MUST try it out.

I've not eaten here for probably 20 years plus. It was a good night. Food very tasty and plentiful. Not the cheapest but very good quality. They were slow taking orders and bringing food, but it was a busy Saturday night ( I altered my taxi home twice) so I half expected it. Will come again
