Overall the food wasn’t the best for the price you pay no mash with a roast have to order that extra. On the children’s dippers fries and beans you only got a spoon full (didn’t have a happy child as he loves beans) some staff a little rude and not helpful. Won’t been eating here again. Also the ladies toilet door doesn’t lock and that’s been like that on both my visits they last month.

Fab Fab Fab! Went for a family meal today 6 of us for my mums birthday, nothing was too much trouble for the waitress who made sure all our meals were correct (We had 2 members of the family with quite strict dietary requirements) Andrew came and spoke to us and made sure we had everything we needed and made the kitchen aware of our needs… he was very knowledgeable of the products and what we could and couldn’t have - as were the rest of the team. It was a great meal - and most of all the food was HOT! Thankyou will definitely be visiting again soon.

Well what a disappointment … turned up today at 1:03pm for lunch with elderly parents … waited at least 5 minutes to be seated … the restaurant was cold so sat in our coats … the service was abysmal the poor girl was run off her feet not enough staff to service the amount of people … the food was below average to be honest we tried the 2 courses for £15 lunch … we eventually finished our meal at 15:26 … not sure it would have been any better if we had used ordinary menu Also asked for bill when puddings arrived as wondered how much longer we would have been there waiting … 😭

Eaten there several times and found it to be a really nice experience. Sorely let down on our last visit, me and my wife decided to treat ourselves to a early evening meal. Ordered starters and a main each, starters were really nice, but went downhill from there. Found 2 black hairs in my mixed grill, stopped eating and reported it to the waitress. She smirked and took my half eaten plate away, no sorry just walked away. Waited for my wife to finish her meal, and my wife asked for the bill. They charged us for everything, so paid and left. I was really surprised with the bad meal and service, but unfortunately won't be eating there any time soon And with all the bad reviews I just read, it seems like a common issue with the staff. So I don't think it will be long until it receives new management.

The rooms are lovely and clean (much nicer than my recent premier inn experience). The food was really good, quick, hot, fresh and perfectly cooked. But what really made our visit was the lovely friendly team, wish we lived nearer as it would certainly be our local

5 Stars I’ve been to The Gamston Lock several times now, and every visit has been a genuinely great experience. The service is always top-notch—the staff are friendly, attentive, and really make you feel welcome. What stands out the most is how consistently good everything is, from the moment you walk in to when you leave. The food and drink are absolutely amazing. Whether you’re after a hearty meal, something lighter, or just a few drinks with friends, there’s always a great selection, and it’s all really well done. You can tell the kitchen takes pride in what they serve, and the bar is well-stocked with something for everyone. I’ve noticed some reviews can be a bit negative, but in my experience, that only ever happens when the place is absolutely packed—easily 400+ people. Even then, the team works hard to keep things running smoothly, and it’s clear they’re doing their best. When things are at a more normal pace (which still means a good buzz of people), everything is fantastic. This is coming from someone who’s been there during both the busiest peak times and quieter moments, and I’ve always left happy. Definitely one of my favorite spots—highly recommend!

My bday today and stocked by the food. Will never go back. Got a bottle of wine. Ordered the week set menu. 2 Tom soups and 1 garlic mushrooms. 3 steaks med/well done but no blood. 1st steak meals waitress said plates red hot but food med warm and steak charcoaled done. Steaks 2 cooked but not rested and blood all over the plates. Absolutely disgusting that chef does not no how to rest Steaks. I paid 69.50 then refund of 34.55 but for a bottle of wine at 18.50 2 soups a garlic mushrooms cost 5.48 each.. are we joking. Will not be back with my 87 year old father bday celebration for 2nd and mine today and mother i had just taken to her mother and brothers grave. Thanks for mine and dads birthday meal that we were unable to eat... disgusting and already been to the ferry boat at wilford were meals were being taken back and late. Still had no food now as stocked...I knew the people who ran this pub years ago, sad how it's changed.

I sat at the usual table and had a very pleasant meal. The staff were new but it is as good as always. A very good restaurant.

Childrens nuggets dry Stay away from the hunters chicken schnitzel Plates not available for birthday cake so only had napkins for a really nice cake- just felt a little shabby Drinks order took ages Expensive for a pint of draft lemonade £4.10 with lime Staff seemed pretty stressed out Overall I might pop in for a meal if I was passing. Probably wouldn’t have another special meal again there just wasn’t the care and attention for the size of the bill. Staff were fine and no issues with them they seemed busy apart from being told we couldn’t have a few side plates for the expensive cake I bought.

Mothers Day, considering how busy it was today, the staff were working so hard and tried to do their very best, the food was amazing as usual, I heard some complaints from other tables witch had no understanding of how busy the pub actually was, some people should just stay at home and cook if all they do is complain. We popped in for a meal before the theatre, and were seated and served quickly, without any rush. The staff were very friendly and efficient, the pie and mash were hot and cooked well. It was great to see a chain pub had real ales and kept well. Impressed and will return.

Went for dinner with family, the place was lovely and clean; staff were very welcoming and smiling. The menu was also easy to understand with a good variety of food. Our main course came quite fast, and the starter was delicious. The restaurant was quite busy but nonetheless the service was excellent. The toilets were clean and they surprisingly had hand sanitiser which most restaurants no longer have. For people with pets, they luckily have a corner where they provide bowls of water. Next to the pub there is also a hotel which a friend has given us a good word about in the past although we personally haven’t been. Fortunately the pub has a big, spacious car park with areas to charge electric cars. The outdoor seating was also lovely with a children play area as well. Staff were careful with my husband’s gluten allergy; as you can see in the photos they placed a stick in the burger to make it clear that it was gluten free. Reasonable prices and we also used a 30% voucher off main courses which we received in the post.

I genuinely don’t know where to begin. The stress of the whole experience was enough to put any one off returning here. The fact that it took almost 2 hours to get any food was just the start. Then not having table service for drinks meant going up to the bar and a twenty minute wait each time, listening to people getting irrate and upset about the 40 minute wait for a coffee etc. We were very patient at our table, yet we were dismissed each time we asked for an eta on the food. Eventually told ‘you’re next’ to ‘it’s being plated up now’ to ‘it’s been forgotten’ - it just seemed like some sort of comedy sketch. We could see other tables around us asking to speak to the manager, who wouldn’t go and see them. We remained calm and collected but overheard staff saying ‘if they don’t like it they can leave’ which wasn’t very nice to hear. The food came in dribs and drabs, adults before children (who by this time were extremely hungry!). Some meals were cold, others were wrong. One of the party didnt receive anything at all. We asked twice for the missing dish and again the third time was told it’s coming. That meal was solitarily eaten in dismay at the quality of the food. No one came at any time to check on us, ask if we’re ok, see if we needed anything etc. We had to fetch our own cutlery, clear our own glasses from the table. The plates were left on our table even when we were served dessert, which we waited around another 50 minutes for, all of which came out incorrectly served. It honestly was the most stressful experience for a family get together and one which I never want to experience again. The embarrassment we felt for the staff and for the poor mothers who dined there, hoping for a wonderful time with their loved ones. I truly am sorry for the sheer state of affairs yesterday, the management team need addressing for allowing such a calamity to ensemble.

Gamston Lock offers a picturesque canalside setting, which is undeniably its strongest asset. However, the dining experience is unfortunately marred by significant issues. On multiple occasions, the service has been painfully slow, leading to extended wait times even for simple orders. Furthermore, the accuracy of food orders seems to be a recurring problem, with incorrect items arriving at the table. While the location holds promise, the persistent service and order inaccuracies detract from the overall enjoyment. It's a shame, as with improved efficiency and attention to detail, Gamston Lock could be a truly delightful destination.

Had a table booked for 3:30pm today it was a big table due to it being Mother’s Day but we waited 2hours for our food after the two hour wait everyone got their food bare one of us so when everyone else finished he then received his. The staff were rude, they had no manners what so ever only one member of staff apologised to us about the whole thing. The manger was not arsed about anything that was going off he wouldn’t even come to the table to address any of the problems. We waited 40minutes for desserts they brought the same dessert out three times after we told them it was wrong, also the three people that had steak and it was warm two got sent back and had to be remade. I will not be returning again today is a special day yet it was ruined by the lack of respect. We still had all of our empty cups and plates on our table whilst we was eating our desserts I’ve worked in restaurants and that is not how you deal with any situation.

They brought out 3 meals 20 minutes before they brought out the other 6. The kids came out last. Weirdly. Forgotten sauces, forgotten bacon. No table check back, albeit the waitresses being kind and understandable I feel as if you’ve lost your touch which the no table service. It needs a complete work around. The tables in the bar shouldn’t be used for large tables including kids and families. We had some right upset across from us because their sht team was losing, swearing shouting it’s actually gone down hill a lot since I last came! I’m in 2 minds to whether I’d come back and spend 200 quid again for that exact same service. McDonald’s does a better job and delivering hot food and that’s cold 80% of the time! That’s saying something. Also tell your chef to not nuke precooked chicken breasts in the microwave or merry chef. Whatever he used for the mixed grill there was 0 love or care. Burgers were ok.

Had a table booked for 4pm didn't get a table until 4-30 then took a hour for food to come out and it was cold and my beef was under cooked didn't even stay for desert. Service was dreadful had to wait 20 mins to get a drink. Will never go there again and especially at it was mother's day totally ruined the day for my partner just wanted to go and have a lovely meal.

Where do i start, 3 of us come for dinner wasnt that busy if honest, dads mixed grill no sausage had to ask, my steak pie was luke warm and mash over heated so hard burnt bits but whole meal was luke warm, the young male took food back for replacement, dads sausage come out within about 4 mins, we also ordered cheesy garlic bread which was stone cold and just grated cheese on the top which wasnt melted,i waited for approx 25 muns for my replacement steak pie meal, mum and dad had already finished their meal. Meal came out and i opened the pie and not one piece of meat in it? Again i raised this with the male and i said i do understand that its a supplier issue but i cant eat it, he went to get the manager terry- he came out of the kitchen, quite arrogant if honest said whats the problem personally nothing wrong with first meal he sent out, i explained it was cold, garlic bread the cheese just put on top he said thats their spec which is of high end and obviously im used to low end!!? I could not believe what he said i then went onto the pie explaining no meat in it, he basically accused me of eating the meat out of it!! I said look back on cctv and ive not touched it all ive done is open up the pie. He just laughed and said watever as he walked away, their was a table next to us and could not believe how he spoke and accused. I have put in a formal complaint as to be spoke to like that and comments he made twice in front of his team and other guests was not professional at all. I dont want a response on here as waiting for a response from the adequate department. Really was not worth the visit

Steak was awful! Half of it was fat, told the waitress but noone came back with apology or comment. Shame, as otherwise the place is nice.

So My wife, myself, our friends and our kids all came this afternoon. Firstly, small lady at front desk was very helpful and polite. Waitcrew and bar staff… no issues at all. The food was bottom of the bin to be polite. Soggy pie probably only ever seen the inside of a microwave. Dried old potatos and some sloppy mess that was pass off as coliflower cheese! The chef/manager came out and basically dug in and defended the gruel he had served us. “The potatos are fresh” I myself have worked in a kitchen for maaaaany years. I know what old and fresh food looks and tastes like, and reheated food… and soggy microwaved pies 🤢. The only one of us that ate the food was the person who ordered a burger. Everything else, was honest to christ…..FOUL! Dissapointing that the chef cannot hear honest feedback from his customers. Im guessing the only feedback he would agree with is the positive kind. No need to respond Terry mate. We wont be back. All the best.

What a fantastic change! Attentive staff, quick service, hot delicious food. We had stopped coming to GL due to poor service and poor food and I am so happy to have given them another chance. I think there must have been a change in management as the whole place had a nice positive vibe. Well done! We will be back

Stayed in the hotel for one night, and used the restaurant for my evening meal and breakfast. Room was very comfortable and immaculate. Food for both the evening meal and breakfast was very good and reasonably priced. Staff were friendly. When in the area I would stay again.

We were greeted with a warm smile and polite attitude the young lady serving us was a delight couldn’t do enough to help us very prompt service with a good selection of drinks which were provided quickly lovely selection of food and desserts all four of us agreed the hot dishes were delicious and I can not express my delight enough the chicken ham hock and leek pie was awesome as was my friends meals of lasagna bangers and mash and finally the steak and Malbec pie and being greedy had the caramel tart for pudding which was excellent

we’ve been here multiple times over the years, and it’s gotten worse each time. The food has not been good, but the service is the worst thing. The management do not care if somethings wrong, and will not give you anything off the bill, any money back and don’t even offer an apology. Eating out is a real treat these days, if you’re lucky enough to, choose somewhere where the staff and food are half decent.

I was staying in the hotel part of the business. I was greeted with a warm welcome, informed about everything from how to get to the hotel part, to being able to come to the pub for drinks and food. Once I had gotten to the hotel and ended up having a nap, I made my way back down to the pub. I was asked if I had any allergies, and I have intolerances to gluten and dairy. So I was give them gluten free menu and informed that if I go on to the website I can filter out dairy as well to help me out with what to order. All the staff were very helpful and helped me with the intolerances that I have. After spending the night I came down from breakfast as well. Again I was very happy with the amount that I was helped with my intolerances. I was even informed that the sausages are gluten free, which is a plus. Even though the staff looked busy on both occasions they managed to help me out and accommodate me and my intolerances very well, so thank you so much for that.

I was very disappointed with the service here I felt discriminated. I went into the reception bar there was one person ahead of me and the lady at the till was sorting out the customer at ahead of me. As I waited another staff member came round Tracey she ask who was next a couple other customers came up she ask who’s next I was the only black person there I said I’m next and put my heads up she ignored me. She then started to served the other customers ,which I didn’t take too personal. The lady that was behind the till finish serving the customer ahead of me and then ask me how she could help. I said I would like to check in ,please. She said oh it’s the next side Tracey does the checking in, Tracey was at the checking desk looking for something. I went over she did not acknowledge me whatsoever. She then walk away back to the bar and proceed to serve the customers behind the bar a fair few of them walk up during this period . I waited patiently she came back after serving everyone at the bar ,which again she was the only one that could check me in. Another staff member came up to the bar to help serve the rest of the customers. I stood at the check in desk along with another customer behind me. After about 7-12 minutes of waiting she came over no apology for the wait just are you check in. I said, yes. She check me in pretty quickly during the process of checking in I had to sign a form, signature and nationality. I signed and put my nationality I was then told because I’m not a British citizen I have to proved a idea ,which I said okay to. I then stated I’ve stayed at several hotels why do I need to provide a ID here her response “because you’re not a UK national you have to prove a ID”. I said why? She responded “you just do”. I said I’ve stayed at serval hotels and this has never been a thing as I’m not moving it or signing a tenancy agreement it’s a one night stay. She did not respond. Tracey then started to copy my ID without asking my permission. I ask why are you copying my ID she said because we have to send it off. I said send it off to who? She didn’t not respond. So I was then thinking this makes no sense as she didn’t provide no explanation for copying my ID I understand seeing it to make sure I am who I say I am ,but copying my ID without my permission are pre warning me no explanation again. I was very annoyed and it ruined my stay at the hotel. I was going to a work event and my Indian manager also, said he felt ignored by staff members. It’s fair to say I’ll never stay at this hotel again they don’t even have an iron in the rooms terrible service by staff members Tracey/Tracy.

Went to Gamston Lock with a friend and the waiter accidentally spilled a pint of beer on me. Completely understand accidents can happen. I asked if there is any chance I could get a few chicken strips/a bowl of chips to make up for clothes being drenched and he asked manager. To which the manager said no, just think that given I've had a drink chucked on me that a small gesture like that would've been welcome.

All the staff are extremely hard working, very professional and friendly - nothing was too much trouble. Andrew was brilliant and did so much to assist before and during the meal to ensure that the evening went well. The food was chosen from the new menu and everyone has praised the choice and quality and the service. No complaints whatsoever. I can highly recommend!

Saturday night - 02/'25. Very busy. Not too noisy. Atmosphere score reduced due to large party of ~Scummers~ people celebrating a baby reveal .. with several tag playing ,football with a ballooning rug rats. No manners,not polite .. Food was very good. Had the Fillet steak & mini beef + Malbec pie. The only criticism would be that the menu stated roast potatoes & In my head that meant roasts like a Sunday roast ..but these were more like roasted Parmentier style cubed spuds. Well cooked + rosemary + garlic . Veg was well cooked , fresh ,nice taste. Served separate. Overall a very nice meal . Jury is still out as to whether it's worth £23.50 though ! - 😄. Staff were young, professional ,hard working , pleasant & very helpful.. Recommended.

Reception was really friendly and we were chuffed to end up at the Karaoke night with CJ. I would recommend another few vegetable sides and another vegetarian meal in the pub. They were very good about allergens snd really friendly. The room was lovely and a comfy bed. Tv didn't work very well.

This is a great venue where I often have an offsite catch-up with team members and a spot of lovely lunch. Staff are always accommodating, helping to find an appropriate spot where we can converse easily. Food is great, good value deals with plenty of variety.

We were welcomed to the restaurant and selected from the menu, which can be tricky with fussy children. Our youngest wanted a burger, but did not want cheese. I considered ordering from the table using the QR code, but found I could not specify requests. Therefore I ordered at the bar and requested no cheese on the burger. Unfortunately it came with cheese. The other 3 dishes were good, except the naan bread with the Thai curry was dry; the poppadum was nice and crispy though. The drinks and desert were good. Table service was efficient and friendly.

Last time j was here the wait time was far too long, but that was a few months back. I'm gonna say now it's a massive improvement, took my mum and dad for father's day. The starters (halloumi fries) were really nice. Mains of signature burger, mac n cheese, and steak (for my dad) all were very nice served hot and with excellent service. I may have missed while booking but could use a disabled option but straight away staff accommodated us immediately as my dad is disabled. I struggle to find a negative with my experience and would like to thank the staff at Gamston lock

We had our daughter’s baby shower at the Gamston Lock and the staff were friendly, and just amazing with all of us!! Great venue

We had the mini fillet steak and pie - it was absolutely delicious. Our server Harriette was lovely, professional and very attentive. She made us feel very welcome which adds to a homely feel.

Great service from Heather and Brogan, good gluten free bun for the burger and great fish and chips.

Very nice but unless you are a karaoke fan then avoid Fri nights!! Good basic pub grub.

Great service from the table, friendly and relaxed pass so could enjoy the experience and not feel like we were being rushed. There was a couple of big groups in but you couldn’t tell at all. We will return again sooner this time!

On arrival, the young man was very polite,friendly & took me & my elderly parents to our table, he was very knowledgeable in what was on the menu that was available & if we had any allergies, when the meals arrived a very polite friendly young lady asked if we needed anything else, the food was excellent & my dad said that the scampi was the best he had ever had & he's had a lot, 😊 The whole restaurant was clean & tidy, nothing out of place, overall 10/10 The only thing I could have suggested is that the young man never had a name badge on. But that's not a problem.
