We found this pub as we were looking for somewhere we could eat, watch the football and have the dog with us. This pub ticked all three. Very traditional/old school English pub with a welcoming atmosphere and good food at a very reasonable price.

In the area needing lunch and had searched for a pub to eat, came across The Gamekeepers Inn and decided to give it a go. We had out 2 little dogs with us so I checked first before we all entered, We were met by a very friendly gentleman who was happy to take our food and drink order even after I spilled some of my beer over one of the bar stools, 🤪🤪 I did my best to clear it up, we sat down and enjoyed our Chicken in a basket and spaghetti bolognaise, The food was lovely , the drink wonderful and the staff attentive. This is a Pub that does food not a Michelin stared restaurant so don’t expect all the over the top faff that goes with it, It is a pub and it does good food,, end of,, Would always go back.. Thankyou

Came here for a family meal whilst staying at Forest Holidays. This is an authentic pub with a traditional menu. Very friendly and helpful staff, the food was freshly cooked to order and excellent value for money, would recommend for a delicious meal without breaking the bank.

When we got here bar man was wearing Ppe took our order and told us to take a seat outside and he would bring our drinks to the table , menus were disposable. Me and my partner both had lasagne and chips which was delicious! And had apple pie and custard for dessert, which was very good value for money. Professional staff adhering to all Covid restrictions!Great service, very friendly staff, definitely coming back here again in the summer

Went to the GameKeepers inn as I had been told it was a quiet friendly pub. We had booked a table for 4 adults and two children. We had to go up to the bar to order food although it should be table service. ALL drinks served to us (two coke zeros, two Pepsi max, two blackcurrant fruit shoots) were all out of date!!! We didn’t have the bottles to evidence the fizzy drinks however when confronted about the fruit shoots it took them over 5 minutes to actually find some in date! (I do know that out of date drinks are not a health risk however the taste does change!) we waited 40 minutes to receive our food with people who even ordered after us being given their food before!!!! When the food finally did arrive it was bland with parts of it overcooked. As they were clearing the plates they ended up dropping cutlery all over the three year old that was at the table! No apology from the waitress! One of the other waitresses that was working was more interested in the woman’s rugby match that was on than actually doing her job! She also took great pleasure in telling others the sexuality of the players! I didn’t realise someone’s sexuality mattered in this day and age! Advertised with the Sunday roast we had was a free dessert after the waiting we had done for the main and how disappointed we all were we decided to leave instead. I decided to have a word with the owner who was behind the bar at the time. I told him we had an awful experience and mentioned all the drinks either being out of date or tasted that way. He went to go get a bottle to prove that they were in date to sadly be disappointed to find out that it was also out of date! I then mentioned the other things and that the service truly was awful. He didn’t attempt to get us to stay for the desserts all he kept saying was that he was awfully sorry for the bad experience after repeating himself a few times he walked off to carry on cleaning. I will never be returning for an awful experience.

I am a retired Home Economist who also worked "in the trade" so no a LITTLE bit about food. Being retired and disabled means eating out is getting harder for me all the time but it also means that one does appreciate kind and friendly servie.Having been born and bought up in the Forest of Dean, I visited this pub last week with friends who were born and bought up here.First, I must point out that this pub is a FREE HOUSE. This means that it does not have the backing, money and resources of a brewery and everyone has to work twice as hard. And boy, did they.Personally, I don't know how they do it for the price. We had the pensioners special menu and for what we paid, it could not be faulted. Ok, I have had better, but for three times the price and not three times the satisfaction. All the Staff were working really hard and I do wish them all the best.Would I go back? YES.Could the people who complain do the same quality of meal for the price? Can they even cook? On top of this, could they run a business?

Four adults and five children ate dinner here one Saturday evening. The food was OK, it was the getting the food that was the seemingly hard part. I went to the bar to order for our group. The barman ignored me for a few minutes, then started to ask when we wanted, then mid way through taking the order, he started serving 5 other people who came in after us. Really rude. Was disappointed as I'd read the reviews before we went. We won't be returning.

I ate here with my girlfriend whilst spending a weekend camping in the Forest of Dean. We were both extremely disappointed with the food. The pub was recommended by a local campsite as being decent cheap pub food - I would describe it as not that cheap, with poor quality food. For starters we had 'Ravioli au gratin', and pigeon breast. The pigeon was really very chewy, probably as a result of being frozen and then overcooked. The ravioli was out of tin with some grated cheese on top for £6.50! Fairly disgraceful. For main courses, we had pie and chips. I ordered a venison pie, which I think was around £12-£13, but received a beef pie. I didn't bother sending it back because my girlfriend had her dinner and we would either have had to eat separately, or wait another chunk of time before we both ate. The beef pie was, at best, mediocre. If it was £8 then I may not have been too bothered, but at that price I would expect much better.I would avoid this pub - there are better places to eat in Coleford.

On a cycle trip around the Wye valley with a vague plan to stop at a pub in the Coleford area for lunch. The first 2 on our particular route were no hopers but the Gamekeepers was open for business. We were the only guests on a Saturday lunchtime and got a friendly welcome. We both had the game soup for starters which was tasty as advertised. My braised steak with vegetables and new potatoes was good and came in a good sized portion. Fish and chips was again of a good sized portion but suffered from slightly undercooked batter - I guess because we were the only guests the oil wasn't hot enough when it was cooked. We would have waited longer for the food if we had known. There is a 241 menu and specials boardGL was still on tap as was Stowfords along with various bitters. There is a large car park and a good sized beer garden at the front. Saturday afternoon football was on the tv when we were there.A normal English pub with reasonable meals at a reasonable price.

If you want perfection this is not the place for you... However, that said, we spent a lovely couple of nights, in a 12th century Inn. Adam and his team are lovely, friendly and more than helpful. The hot water in the room seemed a bit hit and miss but the room was clean and comfortable. On the whole we were made to feel very welcome and really enjoyed our visit. Thanks guys 😊
