Galbi - The Korean Table BBQ in Portsmouth

The set menu was great! Being able to cook your own food on a bbq was a fun experience. The staff were really friendly and the decor was basic and modern. The food was so good! Good prices and quick service. We have recommended many times and will be coming back!

Very disappointed. Not coming back

Marinades on the food were lovely however we were left extremely disappointed by the customer service. Staff were unengaged from the customers, stood chatting to each other and then started having a very loud argument which continued for the entire meal. Definitely ruined the meal. The decor in the restaurant is also very odd, chipboard on all the walls.

I’ve been here a couple of times. I think the food is great but the service is abysmal (especially from the manager). It takes a very long time for the food to arrive and we’ve usually had to ask them when we’d get our food. I find that the manager is very stingy with the condiments. It’s a shame because the food is good here. If the place was decorated a lot better and the service was improved, they’d definitely have more customers.

Visited with family of 6, upon confirming they could accommodate some members of family with gluten and nut allergy. Restaurant was a bit empty when we arrived, which was worrying , but an hour later it was full, some people waiting by the entrance for a free table- and now I know why ! Some people say service is slow or not attentive - but you simply need to ask them as they don’t want to bother you too much ! Only 3 of us had bbq set , which they were ok with, others had bibimbap and mixed tapas. Our waiter explained want all the sides were and was happily topping up our sauces and kimchi. Cooking was so much fun! Obviously you need to have a common sense to know when certain meets are cooked :) it was an incredible experience and definitely want to return for a date night. Great place with great food !

Fantastic place to have a Korean table BBQ meal. The staff were great, the food was tasty and the prices won’t break the bank. Highly recommended!

It’s a nice idea, very interactive especially if you have kids they can have a go at cooking the food. There were also lots of different meats, seafood etc to try out. My only criticism is that they don’t really offer much advice on what to cook first, last etc, what should be paired with what etc so we were bumbling around a bit. But fun nonetheless.

Was visiting the Kings Theatre in Southsea and Galbi is almost next door. We just pitched up and decided to give it a go. Small and quite basic but the food and service were excellent. Well worth a visit to cook your own food at the table which is a bit different!

The kbbq is great value for money, the other dishes are okay. The galbi tang is incredibly salty, don’t recommend.

Very, very average. Decor is OSB boards screwed to the wall. Food is OK at best. Staff are not engaged with the customers. At £25/head for the authentic Korean bbq, go for a curry. It's Albert Rd after all.

Phoned up in advance to make a booking for 7pm. We turned up at 6.45pm to be told that they have been overbooked and if we were to stand outside wait til 8.30pm we would be accommodated. This is typical of small businesses that blow their load too soon and will be begging for custom in the near future. Unprofessional and rude management

Went to Galbi last night with my bird, was some of the best food I’ve had. £25 pp set menu is definitely worth the money. Loads of meat and fish options and I would recommend a side of ‘kfc’. Great food and great service , will definitely be returning.

Love this place, we go here a lot, it has become a family favourite, the KFC is especially good. Nice to see new stuff on the menu recently

Wanted somewhere a bit special, a bit different to celebrate an anniversary and this certainly filled the bill! We chose the BBQ fixed price meal and had a lot of choice - starters and meat and fish and any amount of rice, lettuce, salads and sauces. You cook it yourself, in your own time at the table so not too rushed and it made for a very fun and relaxing evening. Overall we were there for 90 minutes which meant we could finish the mountain of food we had been given. Staff very pleasant and helpful in instructing our cooking. Sensible to book ahead as they do not have that many tables. A good bottle of wine was also reasonably priced.

We just happened to walk past and look at the menu and we’re so glad we decided to give this place a go! It’s our new favourite! We had the set menu which was £24 each and worth every penny. Almost too much food for two people, such good value. Various meats, Sushi, dumplings, rice and sauces. It was all absolutely delicious. Will be going back for sure.

On arrival our group of 3 were told that the table would be needed back in an hour. In then took us nearly 20 minutes to get a menu, we ordered 5 small plates and two main dishes. At first only 3 plates arrived. When then asked about the others the waiter seemed confused. Then one more dish arrived. A further wait before asking the waiter about the rest, again seemed confused. It was clearly forgotten. It took over an hour to get all of our food. There was no apology, no gesture of good will. We asked to speak to the manager, and was told that there wasn’t one on shift and nothing that could be done right now. The food was tasty enough, although the fried chicken wasn’t fried chicken but a soft battered chicken. I would not recommend anyone go there. The awful service far outweighs the taste of the food.

We had booked the restaurant in advance as a party of 8 for a birthday meal, after 20 minutes of waiting we had our orders taken. The drinks came out promptly, however the food came out in drips and drabs and after an hour some members still had not eaten. We had asked the staff frequently how long the food was going to be and were told that it was on its way and that the reason the food took so long was because of a lack of fires in the kitchen. We accepted the delay, however after another half an hour we asked where the food was as one member had not been served either their starter or their main (whilst other members had completely finished their meal) we were told that they didn't have the ingredients for the dish and couldn't provide it despite another member of the party ordering the same dish. When we asked why they hadn't said this in the first place and why we were told continuously that the food was coming (one waitress said it was the next dish to come out the kitchen) we were called liars by the manager. Staff were very apologetic, the food was of good quality but the managers attitude was horrendous. Completely ruined the meal and we will not be returning to the restaurant.

Team dinner for 6 of us. Lovely warm welcome, We asked for recommendations and they suggested 4 x set menu and a couple of other dishes, plus a dish for our vegetarian friend. We also tried the Korean Soja (Plum and then apple) both very nice and moreish. We had loads of fun cooking each of the dishes and in the end there was too much for us to finish. Very enjoyable and will definetly be going back.

We found this gem when we visiting local theatre. We had not booked so was lucky enough to get a table. We ordered set menu and it was amazing! There is a lot of food, and free refills of rice, pickles and sauces. You cooked the meat and seafood yourself on grill in middle of table and this all added to a great experience. As food was cooking we had great social time chats and not once did we feel rushed. Staff were attentive and nothing too much trouble. We left room for dessert, although not extensive choice was delicious. We had the pancakes and banana fritters and they were so tasty. It is a small restaurant so would advise to book. Everyone there were laughing and chatting and all were having a great time. Gem of a place that needs you to visit.

We had a fantastic experience at Galbi’s. Between two of us we ordered the set menu. Warning! It’s a lot of food! It was absolutely delicious but we could not finish all of it. Will definitely be returning :)

Flesh meats＼(^ ^)／ I really like ox tongue. Beer is also nice. For kinds of small dishes that came with set menu were free refills.

The food was nothing I have tried before! Absolutely delicious, perfectly seasoned, just smashing. I couldn't stop eating, that's how good it was! The atmosphere and the staff were brilliant. Pricing was fair for the amount of food you're getting, I'd say it's even too cheap to be that good! Strongly recommend!!

Nice restaurant. You can cook food by yourself as you have a cooker on the table...the only thing that above the table is you have the extractor, but no one of them works! My eyes were burning from the smoke caused by the food that everyone was cooking on the table.

Korean fried chickens aren’t even Korean more like a sweet and sour chickens and £5.40 is expensive for less than the sweet sour chickens in Chinese. I had proper Korean BBQ before in London and this is mediocre. The singular chairs is so uncomfortable to sit.

Went here and got the set menu for two. Very reasonably priced, high quality food and a great experience. The gent that served us was very helpful and efficient, however I've knocked a star off as the decor left a lot to be desired!

Good food, Mediocre service. Came here to celebrate a friends birthday 10/02/22 and she left her birthday gifts under the table, including a bag with a cheesecake in, came back 30 minutes later and the gifts where there - but no cheesecake? Staff said the bag was never there to begin with? Think they had themselves a little after work snack 🤥

Great food, quick service and nice atmosphere. However, my group left a few bags behind all of which were returned EXCEPT... a cheesecake that was suspiciously missing. Food 10/10, Cheesecake 0/1, I dont think we need Sherlock to work this one out.

Had their Tteokbokki. Honestly the worst I have ever eaten and I didn't even know it could be that bad 🤣! Huge chunks of garlic, wierd powdery textured sauce and practically 7 pieces of Tteok for a £5ish?! Genuinely in shock

We've been to seoul and this is the closest to the real thing. If your unsure what to have just ask or have the set menu you can't go wrong. Oh you must try the makgeoli rice wine

Absolutely rude and terrible service at this restaurant. Booked a table for 5, travelled all the way from Winchester as we had had such a lovely experience here previously. We arrived the same time as another group, they had booked for 4 people but turned up wanting a table for 5 and helped themselves to our table. The staff then challenged them that they had booked for 4, and let them stay in our table and left us stood there with nowhere to sit. They then tried to fashion us a table which was a total mess and didn’t work for the 5 of us as nobody could talk to anyone. They were totally rude and unhelpful and did not care at all. They had no desire to tell the other table to move. The service at this restaurant from the ladies working there tonight was absolutely shocking. We ate here previously and a young man served us and he was so lovely with a wonderful attitude and really helpful. Completely terrible experience for a family meal and we will not be back and will tell our friends not to bother either.

I've never experienced Korean bbq before but the staff were all really helpful and explained exactly what to do, it initially seems like a steep price per person but you get so much food! Would highly recommend

Korea has some of the best food in the world. But sadly it's not to be found here. Poor meat cuts, kimchi out of a jar. My rice arrived 20mins before my meat, which needed cooking. Service was slow, and intermittent. Plenty of great alternate restaurants nearby.

I am surprised about the good reviews for this place. The food was very low quality and the service average. It looks like they are saving money at all corners, but this means people will not return.

Wonderful service. The restaurant itself has lots of character. Looks cramped from the outside but a lot more space inside. Waiting staff are lovely. Food was served within 10 minutes of ordering. Presentation was top notch for the price and you definitely get your monies worth with the portion sizes. Overall, great experience, will be going again.

18th Birthday Meal. Took my 18 year old son here for his birthday meal. Table of 5, four of us went for the BBQ platter and we also ordered some sides as extras. The food was fabulous and plentiful. we were struggling towards the end. Staff very friendly and attentive. I would recommend the KFC. So tasty. Thank you for a brilliant evening. Also as it was my sons birthday he had a complimentary pudding just to top of the night. Will be going again

Our favourite place to eat in southsea. We have been here a few times. Food Is delicious lots flavours. Service is good but it can do little improvement. Portion and price are good.

Brilliant service and the food was amazing.

Having been to Kitan in London a few times I guess our expectations were very high. Also we went on the hottest day of the year which my wife nearly fainted inside due to the heat.

Over all experience is okay. Good food with a lil bit pricey. Place is clean and good ambiance.

Amazing food, something different. Very tasty and generous portions. The only thing is say is be prepared for your clothes to smell after eating here, the extractor above the table isn't great so your clothes will smell of BBQ done after eating here. But don't let that poor you off, we can't wait to go back.

I've moved here for work and I'm going to have to speak to my colleagues on why they didn't tell me this place existed. I went for the BBQ special, plenty of food, yes you have to cook it yourself but that's kind of the point of a table BBQ. Choji would be one happy ninja in this place.

today we went out with my family this was first time we were trying Korean at Portsmouth. it was amazing the waiting staff he was friendly and helpful. the foods we delicious and fantastic loved the galbi and all the bbq sauce. we will visit again soon thankyou for amazing host and food drinks

Primera visita. Cuando solicita el menú de configuración, espera recibir TODO. Faltaban tanto las salsas como la lechuga (algo que no nos dimos cuenta hasta que la comida estaba casi terminada). Tampoco recibimos el pollo, pero nos dieron un poco de KFC como entrante que no estaba en el menú fijo. Aparte de eso, la comida estaba bien. . . Okay. El mayor problema era que el piso estaba extremadamente resbaladizo y, aunque había estado lloviendo, no debería haber sentido como si estuviera en una pista de patinaje después de una hora de comer (no era solo yo quien tenía este problema). Este es un accidente esperando a suceder. No creo que haya una segunda visita.

Disfrutamos nuestra comida, sin duda, pero como otros han dicho, después de la comida establecida todavía teníamos hambre. La comida preparada vino con una buena selección, panceta, cordero, ternera, calamares, langostinos, etc. realmente veg) Afortunadamente tenía su arroz y el mío. Al final de la comida preparada pedimos KFC y calamar frito coreano (el calamar fue lo mejor de toda la noche). No era demasiado caro y disfrutamos de la novedad, pero las porciones deben aumentarse. Los camareros eran amables y toda la comida salió a su debido tiempo.

Cené aquí anoche, la comida era deliciosa, hubiera sido mejor si la camarera le explicara un poco más el menú, pidiera recomendaciones y ciertamente lo hizo. La comida tiene un precio razonable y las bebidas son baratas. El KFC fue probablemente uno de mis platos favoritos y la barbacoa de mesa fue una buena edición, iré al menú fijo la próxima vez para que pueda probar una gama más amplia de platos. He estado dos veces con amigos a la vuelta de la esquina de nuestro airbnb. La comida siempre es buena, bien cocinada y llena de sabor. Buena experiencia cocinando su propia comida usando la parrilla de la mesa, sin embargo, fui flojo la segunda vez que pedí un estofado coreano que era realmente agradable. Todo el personal es muy agradable y amable. Disfrutamos del ambiente relajado. Lo recomendaría seguro!Nota al margen, se olvidaron de nuestra reserva que hicimos unos días antes de la visita, sin embargo se las arreglaron para acomodarnos sin problemas

Great place. Have been as a couple and a group and is great for either. They do need some improvements to the extractors as it can get a little smokey and the floors get a bit slippery. Not 3nough to detract from the amazing food and service though.

I visited Galbi with some friends and it was a fantastic experience. We tried a range of their offerings, from the usual Korean BBQ to their fantastic Bibimbap, the meal didn't break the bank. That said, the BBQ side of things was a bit of a let down compared to my experience in South Korea, where the meat servings were much larger.The staff are actually Korean so it was refreshing to experience that. Just speak slowly so they can understand you clearly.

Took a few work friends to here on a debut trip and there wasn't a disappointed soul amongst us. Great atmosphere, inviting decor, welcoming and accommodating staff and the food was superb. It was my first time ever trying Korean food, and now I can understand why it's a central piece in Korean culture. Tasty, wholesome and very filling. The ability to cook your own food on the grill is definitely the highlight. I'll definitely come again.

Even though you have to barbecue yourself the food is very fresh and well seasoned. This is our second visit and we’ll definitely be back very soon. Soft shell crap was excellent. Only recommendations are; sort the floor as it’s dangerously slippy and put on some music!

Amazing food...The best Korean restaurant in the south.

I’ve been to a good few Korean barbecues and normally expect to pay higher for good quality stuff. This unfortunately is far too expensive, for very average stuff. The novelty soon wears off when you’re left hungry after ordering the set menu. Even the five Korean guys beside us had to reach for the menu again after finishing their set menus. If coming here - avoid the bbq novelty - and just order off the main meals.

An authentic Korean experience close to Southsea high Street. Worth a visit with a good range of food available.

If you enjoy cooking your own food this is the place. The menu has cooked items as well as cook your self BBQ dishes. The Bulgogi was very good and the Galbi was well marinated. The food is very meat orientated.

The food is always amazing and for a really good price compared to other Korean Restaurants, the staff are also very attentive and helpful.

Cuando llegamos estábamos un poco inseguros sobre qué elegir, así que optamos por el menú que ofrece una selección de casi todo.Tienen un plato caliente / barbacoa en el centro de la mesa y traen algunos entrantes y carne / pescado crudos que usted mismo prepara con las verduras y las salsas / especias que ofrecen. Si no está seguro de algo, vendrán a ayudar o incluso a cocinarlo para usted. Fue una experiencia realmente buena y te permitió involucrarte en lo que estás cocinando. Definitivamente lo recomendaría! !

We enjoyed our first trip to Galbi. We had the set menu and a couple of drinks. It was over £100 for three. I think it was a bit too expensive. The food was good. Not amazing but tasty. I enjoyed the bbq and wrapping the meat and sides in lettuce. The soft shell crab is better at Sakura but over all it was a pleasant meal if a little hot in there!

This is such an amazing restaurant, live eating the Korean food whilst listening to Kpop. The staff are really friendly and the pricing is excellent. Couldn't ask for a better Korean restaurant

Excellent place, very polite staff and delicious food. My friend who lived in Korea for 4 years told me flavor is identical to real Korean food

4 adults plus a 13yr and 11yr old. It certainly was a pleasant, entertaining evening spent here. With 4 of us having the set menu and the kids adding items was good value for money and plenty of food. The staff were helpful and accommodating if you wanted more rice or soya sauce etc.

The Galbi is a Korean BBQ restaurant. We were there on a Tuesday night and it was busy, always a good sign. We had a variety of dishes, including Bulgogi, this came raw and we cooked it on a table top hot plate. The food was well priced and very tasty. Certain I will go again if in Portsmouth.
