We grabbed a scone and a cheese straw here before sitting in the nearby Soho Square Gardens. Gail's has a number of locations throughout London and we find they have pretty good baked goods and drinks. They charge extra if you're dining in and it is extra for each item and this location does not have many seats and there is no toilet. The prices are reasonable and it is surrounded by metros - the closest of which is Tottenham Court Road.

I tried a sausage roll. It is advertised as coming with a tomato relish. I didn’t get the relish so I asked a member of staff to give it to me. With a bored expression she told me “oh we don’t do relish here”. I asked her to heat it. Same bored look. They don’t heat things there. The cold stodgy roll was disgusting. I couldn’t bear to finish it. Then I asked where the toilet was. No toilet. I didn’t actually count the number of seats in this café, but I am pretty sure that there were at least 10 if not more, so my suspicion is that they are actually breaking the law. Given that I am currently struggling with an injury and would find it difficult to walk around town looking for a toilet I was not at all happy about this situation. Next time I am in the vicinity I will go in and count the seats and if necessary report them. The staff are lackadaisical and uninterested to the point of rudeness. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

I don’t like giving a harsh review but on this occasion I have to. How can it be possible to be running a cafe business and not have a toilet facility for paying customers! Not is this disrespectful, Gail’s aren’t exactly the cheapest place. Is it legal to offer drinks and not provide toilets?

As a Soho girl I’ve become a bit of an expert when it comes to cafe life. I write…think….sip… and reflect daily in my choice of cafe. Gails is only a recent discovery - and I love everything about it. The snacks the coffee and the vibe are all great. But in reality it’s the people that makers the place. Heading this successful ambience is the weekend crew - A trio of three fabulous individuals that cannot do enough. Calm, efficient charming and friendly I was so knocked out by the service had to ask their names. First of all the unflappable Nowshin would make a Boeing 737 passenger feel calm, and nothing is too much trouble for her. Mariyah is friendly charming, and patient. And Yassine is like ‘Cinderfella’. He never stops working: I always come out after a weekend, stint at Gails feeling refreshed, invigorated, and full of beans. Thank you Gails for being there. And thank you wonderful weekend, staff at Gails!

Used to enjoy coming here after a jaunt around soho. Went in there today and was sadly disappointed. All drinks are now served in paper cups, even if you are drinking/eating in — if you can find a seat as there were now only about 8 very uncomfortable, ugly stools in there. The bar stools around the serving area have been removed. The colourful original artwork that used to festoon the walls is also gone. It is no longer an enjoyable respite from the hordes, its now a soulless drink and go establishment. Except you can't even 'go' as they have now closed their toilet to the public! I would rate this place as just 'average', as the service was fine and the coffee was ok but it has to be 'poor' due to the fact that it is utterly ludicrous that a place that serves food and drink to consume on the premises doesn't have a toilet.

I have a weak spot for Gail's bread so decided to grab one while in the area. The bakery is quite small and the number of tables is limited, but otherwise it offers the usual Gail's experience. I was suprised to hear that the bread can't be sliced in this store but managed to deal with it at home.

Arrived completely jet lagged after 24 hr flight. Booked into The Resident Hotel nearby, where Paolo concierge greeted us and recommended Gail’s after we explained that we badly needed a coffee hit - but we were very hard to please - double shot flat whites on skim are really not “ rocket science” but sometimes impossible to obtain. Visited Gail’s - joined queue at door - always a good sign. Summary; excellent coffee, delicious pastries - friendly and efficient service. Recommended!
