Gabbar in Leeds

Wont return to this indian. Its was cold room with no heating on. poor service and the chicken tikka massala was like nothing I'd ever tasted . it was far too hot and tasted nothing like a tikka massala and certainly didn't look like what was advertised as one. The poppadoms tasted like burnt fat.

Quite a disappointing meal considering the rating and reviews... as mentioned, this is now called Indian Pakwaan. We opted for our usual bottle of prosecco, poppadoms/pickles and a main. Plus points are prompt and courteous attention, but some knowledge of the drinks variable would be beneficial. Also the prices seem quite reasonable. Poppadoms tasted burned and the pickles weren't nice, everything laced with caraway seed. My main was a chicken madras, it was OK, far from up there with the best but it wasn't bad... not much meat in it though. My wife's chicken tikka masala on the otherhand was awful. Oddly hotter than my madras, tasted quite acrid wasn't the red colour with hinted sweetness the dish is supposed to be. Not enjoyable at all.

This is no longer Gabbar and has new owners, now it is called Indian Pakwaan, ( pakwaan means dumpling but there weren't any on the menu). They are Indian but they are serving halal meat but not stating this on the menu, otherwise it would have been 5 star. This used to be Nash's. It still breaks my heart to see the famous Leeds institution gone.... Sweet boy and girl working as waiter and waitress. Food takes around 30 minutes to arrive as this is not a curry house, it is an Indian restaurant. Every dish is made fresh (no onion sauce and pataks jars in sight). We had 1 bottle of wine, 1 chicken Tikka Masala, 1 garlic naan and 1 vegetable biriyani = £38. The vegetable biriyani was clean, fresh and without greese. It came with a hot sauce and a cooling riata, The naan was fluffy and tikka masala (so I am told) was delicous with jst the right amount of heat. But the old tea room is a sort of store room. 3 out of the 4 ladies loos were locked and I had to find the waitress to get loo roll. Would deffinately return.

Went on saturday night worst indian ever had. Food was bland. Pickle tray awful with only 3 pickles one was a strang thick mint dip. Starter was okay. Went about 7pm hardly anybody in the restaurant always a bid sign. Shocking meal would not go afain

The first time I ordered from the restaurant it was great. Food was nice although the food was extremely late. However, my experience the second time round was awful. The food arrived on time but was bland and was nothing like traditional Indian food. Saag paneer was watery and had no flavour, butter chicken tasted like tomato sauce and the chicken karahi was more like Chinese chicken. I spoke to someone at the restaurant who answered the phone didn't mention I had got through to Gabbar I had to ask. No phone manners at all and I said I would like to make a complaint. There was no interest in my complaint, no phone manners and proceeded to tell me I was being rude after putting the phone down on me. I will never go to this restaurant again because that customer service was disgusting and so was the food.

First time visit. Food absolutely amazing, the chef is obviously extremely knowledgeable and talented. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive. Definitely recommend to anybody who enjoys authentic Indian food.

Visited Friday night just on spec and had a fabulous meal. Located centrally and near the arena , you have to look out for the sign as it is located upstairs so you could miss it from the street. It’s a large, beautifully decorated room with beamed high ceilings. The food was exceptional especially the fish starter we had and the staff added to our excellent experience by being friendly, helpful and knowledgable about the food, will definitely return. We recently had a private party in Gabbar for a special occasion. And Mr. Gopi went above and beyond to make it a grand success for us.. Food, Music, Drinks...it was just perfect. Me and my friends enjoyed it to the fullest and i would highly recommend for any kind of occasion \ private dinning.

I came in on saturday with my daughter. This place never lets me down. The service was great. Sunny runs a good ship. The food was excellent and caters to all tastes. This place is spot on for parties so ive booked for my daughters birthday party next month. Sunny is sorting out everything for me. Highly recommend again.

Had a groupon for here. The service was good, food plentiful and tasty and nothing was too much trouble. Not our usual Indian menu so asked for what was similar and was told that the chef would make whatever we wanted. It was delicious! The place is a bit dated but lets face it...you dont pay for decor!

Really warm welcome, we were using a dine card and this was happily accepted. The food was beautiful, really good quality and we didn't wait long at all. Was so impressed I ordered a take away for my partner and it was done in around 15 mins, that was of the same high standard. We will definitely be returning soon!

This place seems to have had a checkered past, all I can say is we were warmly welcomed by Sunny the manager, taken to a table of our choice, we were seated, asked about drinks which, arrived promptly, the food order we weren't too sure about so I asked sunny to bring out some interesting stuff, I have to say he was spot on, just the right amount of food for 8 of us, then came the mains and deserts, together with a jug of mango lassi, 2. Coles and bottled waters as well as 6 double Jameson's with coke, all the food was A rated, not too spicy but just enough, you can tell care has gone into the prep, the whole bill came to just £99 and with a nice discount £80 that's just £10 per person, cheaper than chips, this place is a must for anyone looking for the undiscovered jewel in India's crown.
