Quality sushi and always quite a pleasant experience. One gripe is for as long as we’ve been frequenting here...they still ONLY accept CASH. So -1* just for that reason.

Hands down my favourite place for authentic Japanese cuisine and has been for years. Whether I pop in for a quick takeaway or sit inside with friends and family, it’s always delicious and they never fail to offer excellent service. If you haven’t visited (which you absolutely must!) don’t forget to bring cash as they’re a cash-only establishment.

Whether eating in or taking away, Fukuoka never disappoints. The sushi is fantastic, I have ordered many things off the menu throughout the years and they have all been delicious. My favourites are the dragon roll, red tiger roll and hand rolls. They also offer a chicken katsu roll and a hoisin duck roll which is perfect for my partner who doesn't love fish. My parents also highly rate the bento boxes and noodle dishes. Eating in has a lovely atmosphere due to its limited seating and the option to eat traditionally on the floor. The takeaway is so convenient and the quality is never compromised, we are always given complimentary miso soup which is a lovely touch.I love this restaurant and couldn't recommend it enough.

1st ordering at 9:30pm takeaway, and I am not disappointed. I love the decor very authentic and the seating is homage to Japanese culture. The execution and quality of service is on point and I and now a firm loyal customer. I ordered their Ebi tempura, Soba noodles and it was YUM!!! They took such lovely care in the packaging eg my tempura was not oily and they put an absorbent paper in the container and made a fold in the foil container so that my tempura would not steam and remain crispy... WOW such attention to detail. Thank you chef I’m going to be coming again in a few days time (pay day) and we will sit inside the restaurant and eat the sushi and I will bring my nieces.

Great sushi but quite expensive and it was very cold in the restaurant. This is a shame as the food was very good. Also, as they do takeouts, it took a while for them to make our dishes. Maybe they need another chef at the weekends? We won’t be returning, as it wasn’t very pleasant to sit in a freezing cold restaurant.

Lovely food, would recommend highly. A little on the pricey side but worth every penny. My nephew says it's the best sushi ever

I first reviewed about 2 years and I just cannot believe I've never been back. Totally freshly cooked food, wonderfully served and all so understated - no flash but just superb. Can there be any better place in Shirley let alone Solihull?

Pleasant atmosphere and some of the best noodles I have ever tasted. Cash only slightly unusual, but that didn't detract from the quality of service or food.

We ate here for a birthday celebration, some of the party were reluctant to try “Japanese” food! They were glad they tried, every body had a starter, mains, and shared the ice cream. Service was good, very helpful and pleasant, the sushi was same as many places I’ve had it, but the Eel and the rest of the bento box wad exceptional! Very tasty, clean and fresh. Highly recommend.

First time we’ve eaten here for a joint birthday meal with my sister and family.We had a starter to share x 2 and tempura prawns. Then Katsu chicken with noodles x 2, katsu curry, 2 bento boxes (eel and salmon) and a prawn and rice dish, all fantastic. Desserts we had the raspberry, coconut and toasted sesame ice cream wrapped in rice paper, all really good and great price!!

This little and very cozy restaurant has a lot to offer. We felt very welcome and could not price enough an outstanding customer services delivered by a lovely lady. Food came very quickly and was very delicious. Sushi was the best I have eaten in UK so far. We will definitely come back again.

Great independent sushi place, small so best to ring up & reserve a table, but we got one for peak weekend evening time at less than a day's notice. Decent but not excessive range of sushi, including eel, octopus & various tuna or salmon rolls. Service prompt, flavours great & reasonable value. Hot sake pretty good too. Would definitely recommend.

At a loss of where to go, so decided to try somewhere new and Fukuoka came to mind. I cant say its my favourite food but I must say it was far better than expected and well worth a visit

Have been meaning to try here for ages, and as my son was visiting and we wanted somewhere different, decided to book a table. As it turned out, he’s spoiled for choice for Japanese eateries in Portsmouth! so he ended up helping us choose from the menu. We had a varied selection and everything was very good. The manager served us, and although a Friday, it was a very quiet night. Would like to go back and have a couple of dishes again. It’s not a cheap meal, but as the bill would be similar to a good quality gastro pub, it’s worth it to eat something different! Definitely ‘give it a go’

Delicious. Did not want to leave and they were very welcoming. My only regret is not trying everything on the menu (we tried)!

Got there for 4.30 pm when they open, so did not need to book. The place is very small, but as we were the only people there it didn’t matter. There are tables and chairs, but the more traditional zashiki option is there too with tatami to sit on (padded mats on the floor).

I was treating my son and his girlfriend to a meal out and I have no experience of Japanese cuisine so was looking forward to my meal. The restaurant is small and crammed with tables. We had booked ahead. We were sat virtually on the doormat and when I asked to sit at the only other empty table, I was told it was booked.

At the moment, I am eating at this restaurant. Not only is the outside deceiving, but the atmosphere is. This food is utterly immense, so much so that I am writing this review amidst eating. If you are in the area EAT HERE.

I come here at least once per month. The food is very good, the service is great, the place is small but very nice and the cost quite good for tge quality you get!

This place is great! For a great selection of fresh sushi it really is perfect. The atmosphere is always great inside here and the service fantastic too! If you are a fan of sushi and don't want to have to travel all the way into Birmingham for it, this place honestly will not disappoint. I recommend the sharing set menu, you get loads for your money and it all tastes so good. Have been here multiple times and will continue to come!

First time here will visit again first impression small cosy restaurant there was four in my party lin the lady who looked after my party was very friendly and was very informative. The food was excellent we had several dishes all very tasty if you ask me to recommend dishes I would say everything it is all good prices are very affordable try it

Nice little sushi place, only seats about 25 people. There is the option for traditional seating here which is a nice touch. Service is quick and staff very friendly! Cash only so make sure you have some before you go!

I went for a take away and the staff was super welcoming and helpful. They offered me tea while I was waiting for the food. The food was not the best Japanese food that I have ever tried but pretty decent and it had good portions.

Been here a few times and it’s a real hidden gem. Authentic, fresh Japanese food and excellent service. Have a bento box, the gyoza, and the dragon roll which is excellent! I would recommend booking as it’s only small with a few tables but excellent experience every time.

Found a really good Japanese restaurant in Shirley. Great sushi and sashimi. The yakisoba noodles were yummy, but the beef was not very tender. Overall great place, will definitely visit again.

A fantastic option for Sushi and Japanese cuisine lovers in Shirley. The only criticism is the beef on the yakisoba was tough, but otherwise brilliant.

Just finished work and drove down Stratford road to grab a quick pizza from dominos and when I parked up I noticed this intriguing Japanese sign. Was greeted by a lovely lady call Kelly. She was happy to suggest items on the menu and food was served quickly. So happy with my meal and the design of the restaurant is so lovely. Can’t wait to come back with friends. Thank you Kelly.

Authentic Japanese Resturant! Delicious food and you have the option to sit on the floor to try a real Japanese experience. We tried the plum wine which was lovely. Only thing to bare in mind the Resturant only accepts cash and is quite small so book in advance.

We booked a table, arrived to eat, but there were no empty tables! We were offered no incentive to stay or return. It was rubbish.

We have eaten at Fukuoka a year or two ago & decided to pop by again for a date night! It was a Friday evening, we hadn’t booked but there was no problem finding a table! The waitresses were very efficient & friendly! We had two starters which were tasty, it was a nice change eating with chop sticks! We ordered different chicken mains which were also delicious! A wee bit pricey but we thought it was well worth it as eating here is an experience in itself! Lovely authentic food & atmosphere!

Sushi is really good and made to order mostly , friendly staff nice atmosphere cute Japanese style restaurant little pricey but good sushi is not cheap my criticism is the main course other than sushi like the Japanese curry etc is not nice a cheap curry sauce poured over pre cooked meat but as I say good sushi

Following my long trip to japan on my return to Shirley I went out in search of good Sushi. This place did not disappoint. Having eaten my body weight of sushi in japan from the little eateries to the kaiten bars and the higher quality places I knew what I was looking for in good food.

Go here if you want dry sushi that tasted like it had been in the fridge for days, miserable staff that need to be taught how to smile and a bad atmosphere that makes you want to eat and get out as quick as possible. Definitely won’t be returning.

We found this to be OK - just OK. The food was OK. The drinks were the usual high price for a restaurant. the service was a little slow.

Came on a Friday evening for a date and sat on the cushioned area which was so cute! The food was amazing. Excellent food for a good price!! Service was great. This restaurant is a hidden gem and I highly recommend a visit!

Great sushi amazing beef teriyaki Benton & able to cater for my friend who has coeliac disease. Plum wine with plenty of ice is also recommended, already looking forward to next visit! Little gem on the stratford road.

Decided on visiting this restaurant as a result of trip advisor reviews and wasn’t disappointed. We didn’t book but in hindsight I’d say that it is advisable as the small restaurant was nearly full (Wednesday evening around 7pm) and we were lucky to get a table.

The service was amazing, very polite and friendly staff.

Lovely atmosphere in the restaurant and the service was great. The waitress was really helpful explaining dishes on the menu. We had amazing gyoza and sushi. We also had katsu curry which was OK. We will definitely be going there again.

Have frequented this restaurant many times and never failed to disappoint with the quality of the food. Not the fastest service, and you can only pay by cash, but the food makes up for that.

We decided that we would like to try something different, we pick Japanese as we had never tried it before and on arrival we greeted beautifully y the hostess. We opted to sit on the traditional floor style seating for the experience, if you are not used to it, big mistake, within minutes you all start shuffling and feel uncomfortable. The staff helped us with the menu and what to order as we are all vegetarian which was nice, We ordered everything suggested, but were a little disappointed that it all tasted very similar with not much spice or kick. Now I know each culture has a different palette but I would have liked to taste something different in the food, I guess they have to keep it Commerical. The food was good , kids really loved the dumplings and sushi. Veggie choices were available which is nice but the limited choices were very much the same thing in a different sauce.

Have eaten here a few times, have always enjoyed our meals and drinks. Just be aware that payment is cash only. Service is great, nice small restaurant great for couples. Have seen families eat here but I wouldn't bring my 7 & 5 year old just yet- not enough room and quite an intimate restaurant. Great for couples or catch up with friends. Would recommend the Squid, miso and Edame for starters and bento box as well as any of the noodle dishes.

Absolutely love this place. Great range of vegetarian options, including vegetarian sushi. I LOVE their katsu curry. Best to book a table as it is a very small place. There's mostly normal tables and some more traditional (very low) tables.

Not much to say other than this was the best Sushi and Sashimi I’ve had in a long, long time. Fresh, soft, delicious tuna and salmon. Plus excellent Gyoza and Prawn Tempura. And cold Asahi. And great service. And reasonable price!! Nothing to fault. Superb!

We visited Fukuoka twice now for work meals and both times we were not disappointed. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is very nice. The place is tiny, so booking is essential. When it gets busy, it can be a bit difficult to get the attention of the staff, but this did not stop me from wanting to give this place the full five stars. Really yummy food.

Very small (size of the bigger living room) but very nice restaurant. The sushi is very nice multiple choices and very well priced. The only critics is the fact that they do not accept cards and nearest cash point is 10 min away .

We visited here on a business trip and it was very authentic we even sat on the floor in true style! We really enjoyed the meal it was stunning as sushi lovers we tried almost everything we possibly could and left there feeling so full!! It was a stunning meal! The only downside was the staff was rushing us out as they was closing and refused us any dessert! But the food was second to none would visit again but earlier so can squeeze a dessert in

Excellent food we had squid tempura and edamame beans( might be spelt incorrectly) to start, followed by some lovely sushi! The atmosphere was great as was the service. You must try the Dragon Roll!!

Great food and service in this tiny restaurant. And an enormous variety of choice on the menu. You won't be disappointed. But it is small with little space between tables.

Three of us visited on a Saturday evening in April. The first thing that struck us was how quiet it was. We were the only diners when we arrived and had to check if they were open. Another six people came during our visit, When my food arrived and I was just about to start the waitress rushed over and said that this was not my order and it was given to the startled diner on the next table. He didn't seem to mind! So a minus for service.For starters, two of us had the mixed veg tempura( £6.00)and the third had miso soup (£2.40). The soup was 'fine' but the vegetable tempura was pretty tasteless.Our mains were Chicken Teriyaki Bento(£12.25), Tofu Teriyaki Bento(£9.25) and Chicken Yakisoba(£11.95). The Bento boxes were attractive and nicely presented.The chicken one was deemed 'ok', my partner saying that she had had better elsewhere. However the Tofu box was 'very good'. My Yakisoba was a bit stodgy but tasted fine.So a bit of a downbeat, mixed dining experience i'm afraid.

Just happened to be passing through and stopped for a quick meal. Excellent sashimi, tuna roll and mochi for desert.Only black mark is because, in this day and age, only accepting cash is crazy!

We ordered tonight a large take out for 2 separate orders and family's. Absolutely amazing! My parents ate in last Saturday and it was an amazing meal in! Highly recommend, will use again!

I took my dad here for Father's Day along with my mom and we had an absolutely delicious meal. I had a Chicken Katsu Bento Box, Dad had prawns with rice and my mom had chicken katsu with rice. We then shared a mixture of ice cream which was exceptional. It is served covered in rice and we had raspberry, coconut and sesame with the latter being so unusual! Definitely recommend as it is a small restaurant and you are looked after very well.

Absolutely stunning ! Simply put its very small. Compact. Lovely simple but classic decor and very clean. Staff are awesome and very fast and polite. Food is out this world and prices are very very reasonable for the quality. Only one thing is that they don't accept card payments. Totally recommend

I've been there three times in a period of two months and everytime I had an excellent experience! The food is incredible, the place is well decorated, the staff is friendly, the only two bad things about this place is that they only accept cash and that is not closer to city centre! Sushi lovers and residents of Shirley are really lucky to have a place like this to enjoy proper sushi at a reasonable price

Took my 3 year old granddaughter for supper. Beautifully presented food, lovely quality. Just one niggle, payment by cash only, no cards. It meant a walk to the garage to get cash which was a slight downer on the evening but would certainly recommend for the food and ambiance.

Unbelievably good. The sashimi was extremely meaty and fresh (not of the skimpy cut styles many have taken too recently), hearty portions of wasabi with each dish. The Ebi Ten Roll was the real winner out of everything I ordered tho, total, utter, perfection 10/10. I feel like I've finally found somewhere to restart my weekly sushi fix habit again.Almost forgot about the Veggie Gyozas!! Do yourself a favour and order some you won't be disappointed

Shirley isn't where you would start looking for a great sushi restaurant so this is an unexpected delight. A wonderful selection of handmade sushi, sushimi etc as well a some noodle-based dishes.Comfortable surroundings, very friendly efficient service, good reasonably priced wine list.

This is a real treat if you enjoy authentic Japanese food. Cash only but there is a cashpoint at Lloyd's bank within 200 yards towards Shirley. Spicy beans and a Sapporo and then a great variety. Always a great date night, a real favourite.

Great spot and one I hadn't even heard of until my wife booked it for my birthday. Small but beautifully formed, excellent choices on the menu and a great mix of traditional Japanese and more European styled food. Great service and quick delivery from very friendly staff. The restaurant is really small (only about 30 covers) and in that sense it was 'intimate' of necessity. Not normally a problem for us but our two female neighbours on the night spoke to each other as if they were front row at a Prodigy concert. Thinking about it, I would have preferred to have eaten in the front row at a Prodigy concert, it would have been quieter!! Definitely one to eat at again but we will check out the company first.

A good find this one; squeezed us in and we sat at the bar, and commanded food and Sapporo all night :) Sashimi and sushi was good, fried noodles less successful, and no udon soup dishes; but a great place nonetheless

You can't beat the skill of the chef and the price: I've paid far more at expensive Japanese restaurants for less. Food arrives beautifully presented, is delicious and staff are able to advise on dishes. Seating is limited and this is a popular place: evening reservations taken. They boast 2 traditional tables on the floor and several western dining tables and chairs. A new family favourite.

I love this independent Japanese Restaurant. The food is excellent and the atmosphere good. There is an option of traditional and Western tables available. The restaurant is small so you may want to call ahead to make sure they have availability. I ordered the vegetable tempura which was delicious. The batter was crisp and light. Perfect! The sushi was delicious and had large portions! The Green Tea was excellent to pair with the meal. The food is made using quality ingredients, large portions are given, and prices are affordable. Great value for money.

Went for my wife's birthday.she had never had Japanese food before. Now a big fan. Nice bottle of red wine with our beef and salmon bento boxes. Sandra had the soup starter which she enjoyed and I had soft shell crab. Service was quick. Attentive but not in your face. We had time to eat slowly and enjoy our drinks without feeling hassled or rushed. Small place a little gem in shirley. We will be going back and meantime we will deffinitely try their take away menu. My 14 year old daughter is obsessed with all things Japanese so requested a birthday meal at a Japanese restaurant. My husband goes to Japan a lot on business but none of us are sushi fans so we wanted an authentic Japanese restaurant.I found this restaurant on Trip Advisor and to be honest it exceeded our expectations.We ordered chicken gyozas, teiryaki beef skewers and spicy breadcrumbed chicken pieces as starters to share. My husband and daughter tried a sushi dish. for mains my husband had the udon noodles (masses of them) with beef teriyaki , my daugheter and I had the bento boxes, she had beef teriyaki I had chicken. The bento boxes are laquered trays split into compartments with various items in each. My chicken was on a bed of fried beansprouts in one compartrment, rice in another, vegetable and salmon sushi rolls in another and pickle and salad in another. The food was beautiful and the portions were large enough to be filling. Ny daughter and I shared green tea ice cream which consisted of about 4 scoops rolled in sticky rice (sounds wierd but formed a sort of marzipan like covering),delicios. We had 4 Japanese beers, a saki, 2 cokes and a very generous glass of plum wine (a lovely liquer wine. The total bill was £89.00 which we thought was very reasonable. we didn't feel rushed, the starters were all served individually which gave us time to savour each one individually. We are already planning our next trip!We were sat at one of the traditional tables with mats on the floor which was the only table available, even though we had booked. My husband said in Japan most restaurants have these tables but they have a dug out area to put you feet in. Not the most comfortable experience! We were advised that the next time when we book we should state we want a normal table, however it was a memorable experience!
