First and last time we will use The Frying Scotsman. The fish was stale and looked even worse. We only ate it because it had been paid for

Visited this place a few times now and the food is always very good, well cooked, well presented and hot Staff are very accomodating and friendly. Best chippie aroubd imho.

Service here is good, had fish & chips here a few times but fish usually overdone to the point of being chewy and chips not quite cooked enough. Prefer to keep it local, but there are better places in the bay. I see people complained that it's expensive, but I'd say it's comparable with others locally.

Having not long arrived at the nearby holiday park thought we would try the local chippy.Had fish and chips 2 times we over priced to much batter on the fish and chips were hard and crispy not the best

Sent someone to buy fish and chips form the new DJs chip shop. Shocked with the price of £19.95 for 2 large cods and one large chips, wouldn't have paid it if id gone myself. would have gone back to Nikkis. Fish was good but only normal size, not a large size compared to what you normally get elsewhere. Chips were awful had a awful taste and left a grease after taste on your lips and mouth, really not nice. chips are so much better, first class from the kebab shop a few doors down. Again portion size for a large chips was poor more like a standard to other chip shops and some have the outer skin still on them which spoils it. Very disappointed with price portion size and chips, won't be going back.

Dry chips obviously been in the heater cabinet for a long time. Fish was two separate pieces battered together. £21 for 3 fish and chips?

Was on the toilet for two days with the runs never go there again food off as i went in there was a smell not good for a new shop

Good food overall but chips a bit ropey. Battered sausage was one of the best I’ve had. Fish good. Easier to go and order inside instead of click and collect

Visited at lunchtime ,asked if they could provide a battered burger ,was told no problem .Ordered this evening ,told battered burger couldn't be done. Chips good , fish good ,chicken very dry . You blew it .

Fist time visiting since the new owners have open it was was really and so easy to order it on the app as you choose time to go and collect it lovey staff will be back when we are next down.

The facebook page needs updating so customers know the correct prices. It is unfair that the prices on facebook do not match those at the shop.

On arrival we had to place our order first, however, nothing is explained and you have to rely on the people stood outside to guide you through the steps! You would think that the sensible idea would be to queue to the left for orders and to the right to collect, but everyone just stands hopelessly in the street! Okay, I understand Covid issues but atleast when you order give everyone a number or something. Instead the poor man tries to call out each order from inside. Outside with the traffic you can't hear a thing!! Food is okay - prices fair. Chips were well over cooked and dark (the oil needs changing - I know, I am a chef!) Sorry - nothing to write home about. PS... Take cash as they don't take cards. (Unlike most other establishments who don't want to handle cash!!!!!) There is a card ATM in the street.

Lovely freshly cooked fish & battered ?? chips, good size portions, Been there loads of times & never disappointed

We always use this fish bar whenever we stay at the local holiday park. Staff friendly, service good, food excellent. All cooked fresh and to order. Very reasonable prices and decent portion sizes. The cod is amazing - a little smaller than some other places but thick, white, soft and flaky and clearly very fresh. As it is cooked to order the batter is perfect. The chips, whilst quite a dark colour, are really good too. Highly recommended !

Reasonable prices, friendly staff and a decent waiting system in place to deal with the covid measures. Chips were not to my personal preference. Think fluffy and closer to a roasted potato. That said the kids loved them. Thanks

Best fish and chips we’ve ever had! The chips were cooked with the batter so the chips were lovely and crispy! The haddock was delicious and perfectly cooked. The staff were very pleasant and very helpful! Definitely will return.

The fish and chips were lovely. We ordered haddock and chips and the chips were the best we’d eaten for a long time. They were so crispy and tasty. The haddock was so white and was a beautiful piece of fish. I would recommend this chip shop to all of my friends and family.

Stopped here this evening (14th Jan) to grab some tea due to the horrible weather we are Having down here at present. Staff were rude ignorant no please no thank you !!Ordered scampi and chips the food as usual had to be cooked so waited 10 minutes for what I hoped would be a nice meal. What a joke chips had a bleach taste nothing nice about the food scampi was hard!£7 waste of money. The shop needs modernising. It’s more like a chip ship from the 1970s them modern day. Dirty tiles and floor. Please somebody with experience and money put some effort in and take this Shop over. You could have a little gold mine. Main Dartmouth road busy through traffic all year round. Tourist trade in summer. Staff need to be trained in customer service So rude no respect for people is customer Paying your wages. Last time we visit until it changes for the better.

Waited 35 minutes for battered sausage and 2 medium chips. Chips were ok sausage was horrible. Staff attitude rubbish enough said

We came here two years ago and it was excellent. This time it was simply terrible, Ordered fish and chips with peas. Thank god for the peas. The chips were cooked and served with loads and loads of batter bits and were stuck together in clumps. Absolutely dreadful. The fish looked massive but the batter shells turned out to be 50% empty. Just as well they were big. Most of the fish batter was binned with the chips. Kept an eye on the bin in case it rejected the contents. Ended up with a nice mushy pea sandwich for tea. Clearly the owners haven’t a clue. The chip portions were very small which should hopefully reduce the vomiting I feel coming on.

We visited while on holiday. After ordering we sat down & noticed dirt at the base of the serving unit & then looked further & saw more dirt around the base of the fridge & freezer. Still we had ordered so continued & took back to our campsite. We found the batter to be soggy & generally did not enjoy our meal. Later we both suffered with indigestion & I felt sick during the night. Will not go there again.

Some of the best chips I have ever had. Can’t speak for what the fish was like but was well received by the other family members.

The staff were so pleasant and the food is consistently great year after year. Fresh and tasty at a reasonable price.

Came here last year whilst on holiday and again this year whilst visiting the area and the food was much better. The chips were gorgeous, really crispy, all the family agreed they were some of the best chips. Fish was good too!

Cheese and onion fritters marked as vegetarian. Then wrapped with 2 meat sausages on top!!! Don’t staff have basic food handling training? Fritter went straight in the bin. 😪

Bought fish and chips for the family - fresh, well cooked and delicious! Much better than last time we had them and we would definitely go back. Haddock was really good. Generous portions too!

Had a half hour wait, only put in what you ordered, staff friendly, but worth the wait lovely fish n chips, and fish cake.if in area again I would come back.

Waited in a que then waited 40 minutes for large chips, which was not a large portion £2.70) they were burn't, cold all the batter scraps thrown in, and were disgusting, even the seagulls left them !!!

We visited this shop as we had just arrived on our mini break and were hungry. We had placed our order when I noticed how filthy dirty the shop was. Grease and dirt on the fryers and wall tiles, and the floor was a disaster waiting to happen. The food, when we got it, was disgraceful and was thrown away. The shop needs to be closed down while a massive clean up takes place. Just horrible.

The chips used to taste okay previously when we have Been but yesterday they were the worst chips I’ve ever tasted however the burger was okay, one sausage was okay the other hardly had any batter on.

Please go somewhere else for food unless you want to give yourself diarrhoea. The shop itself needs closing down or sandblasting and the staff need some training in how to actually speak rather than just nod. Please stay away

We are staying here for a week and thought we would try the food here after reading some reviews. Firstly I wasn’t expecting to find that all the food is cooked to order. Normally a chip shop has some things already cooked but not the flying Scotsman. Every one was milling around outside waiting for their order, this might have been because it was a nice night or that the floor was so greasy they were worried about slipping. The food in all honesty wasn’t bad, but it was the first time I’ve had chips that seemed to have been cooked with batter. The place could do with a real good clean and redecorating, right now it has the atmosphere of a 1970’s Russian supermarket

chips were burnt and inedible, loads of scratters hanging around the place, absolutely vile, worst chippy Ive ever been to

Fresh cooked cod and chips- lovely and crispy, piping hot and still hot when we got them back to our holiday home! Would recommend and return. Friendly service.

We stop off here to pick some food up before we went to a holiday home it is such a nice local chip shop staff are so friendly at all times and we never have to wait ages will be back a again soon.

We ordered traditional cod and chips and enjoyed every mouthful. We will definitely call in again when we are next in the area.

We look forward to having a chip supper from here when we're down on holiday. The chips are the tastiest I've had, lovely and crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy in the centre. The battered sausage tastes good too. Competitive prices and friendly staff.

Much better than our local fish and chips and wish they were our local! Came here twice whilst on holiday and the food was beautiful. You get large portions for low prices and the food is just delicious. The chips are nice and crispy how they should be and the chicken wasn’t dry. The haddock and COD were also flaky and lovely. Best Fish and Chips in the South West. Went here last week as my brother and sis in law were visiting. We could hardly move afterwards!! Just delicious.

what happened to nipping into the chippy and getting a bag of chips the famous English

We had chips on Tuesday lunchtime and they were below par. We don't normally have chips in the daytime so we put it down to an unlucky batch. Tonight Thursday 29th march 18 we had 4 portions and some chips were not cooked, which isn't the world's end but the whole batch tasted different to normal.

We always come to the chip shop when get on holiday the food is always freshly cooked the shop is always clean and the staff are friendly and helpful we always get on bag of chips between us as the portion are so big so with you are looking for chip shop when on holiday come to this one

We stopped here whilst in the area. The chips are the best I have had for a very long time. They had a crunchy batter coating and the portion was very good.

We recently moved to Devon, and we thought that our "old" local fish and chip shop in Bedfordshire couldn't be beaten. How wrong we were! Our new local is Frying Scotsman in Paignton, and it is just excellent!

DRIVING BACK TO OUR CARAVAN, and not had any lunch, I saw this chip shop, and boy O boy, these chips have to have been the best I have ever had. 11/10.

Had a couple of takeaways from here during our recent trip to Paignton. Plaice and chips, and cod and chips one night, saveloy and chips the next. We thought it was very tasty. The fish was perfect and we especially enjoyed the chips. Very good value too. Friendly staff. Wish our chippy at home was as nice as this.

The chips were always the item that put this shop on the map. I live 30 miles away now so don't get to have them.

Called while on holiday in Devon Bay. Beautiful fish and chips. Shop was packed out but the staff were very friendly and organised. We were served in a few minutes.

The chips here are really crispy and better than anywhere else I know. There is usually parking outside in a free parking bay so we always go here for chips.

We had a take away whilst on holiday up the road.We visited twice and both times the food was great.The second time i visited i phoned the order in so no waiting and it was ready when i got there.Although items are fried the oil was minimal and not swimming as one person suggested.We will be visiting again next time we visit.

One of the highlights of our holidays down here are fish and chips from the Frying Scotsman. Always freshly cooked and delicious. One of our party this time had a thickly cut piece of roe, very tasty.

Asked for scampi, large ships, sausage and 2 curry sauce. It was cooked and we got home to eat, we were starving. The scampi was just oil, the chips were mainly batter bits - hardly any chips. The curry sauce was gravy! and even that was lumpy as hell..wont be going here ever again, very disappointing.

Went here last year and it was awful. Tried it again this year and it was really nice. Cooked fresh and tasted great. Last year the fish was off however this year it was lovely.

As a local I use this fish & chip shop a couple of times a month. I always have the breaded cod chips & mushy peas. The guy who serves is pleasant. Chip portion is enough for two people. Always busy

What amazing fish and chips! Absolutely brilliant, fish tasted amazing and the batter and chips were wonderful. Have visited the area numerous times on holiday over the years but this was our first visit, would definitely recommend a visit as would the six others I dined with tonight.

This is one of the best fish and chip shop take-aways I have been to. The chips were crispy and not oily. They didn't look much, but tasted perfect. The haddock was cooked fresh. The fish was cooked well and flaked perfectly. Again, this was not oily. The batter could have been cooked a little longer for the crispiness, but this could have gone a little soggy on my walk back to the caravan site up the road where we were staying and where we ate it (Waterside Caravan Park). This fish and chip shop was a perfect little find and massive life saver in terms of hunger - we were due to eat in the restaurant on the caravan site, but when we arrived we were told that that they had stopped serving, but that we could get a take-away. At 8.15pm we thought this was a little early to stop serving food, and having not been advised of this earlier or not seeing the opening times displayed anywhere we were rather annoyed and didn't want to give them our money so we took a walk and found this fish and chip shop. On reflection this was the best outcome anyway, and we are rather pleased with the outcome. Yum yum, thank you. Great service, great food, great find.

Chips are great, saveloys wernt very nice . Got overcharged without realising to. Batter on the sausages were too hard also

Everything is cooked to order so food is hot and fresh , very good fish and chips would highly recommend even though you have to wait for your food to be cooked .

Went to but a portion of chips for my daughter & when we got home (10 minutes away) we opened the bag of chips to find the most disgusting chips I have ever seen definitely won't be returning one very unhappy child

We have had fish and chips from the Flying Scotsman over many years and can highly recommend them. The fish is superb and the chips to die for. We often have the curry sauce as well. The staff are so helpful and friendly. I think the best chippy in the Bay.

I would highly recommend this chip shop if you like fish and chips how they should be fresh and tasty stayed in Goodrington Paignton for four nights and used this chippy twice as me and my fiancee normally do if staying in the area .Good food good value for money .

Came here as I was looking forward to having fish and chips sat in the car along goodrington sea front but was left dissatisfied. Have to say this was the worst fish and chips I've ever had. The chips looked like they'd been warmed up from God knows when and the fish was so greasy it was vile. Most was thrown in the bin. Other family member had sausage and said that wasn't the best either. Sorry guys but you need to get this sorted. People say fish and chips is greasy but not this bad

Fancied a Chippy tea so this place was the closest to our accommodation. Had 3 small fish and chips . All cooked to order and didn't have to wait long.Chips were very nice,crispy and hot.the small fish was a good size and again crispy batter and hot. All in all a very good Chippy tea.recommend it highly.

We popped in for simple jumbo sausage and chips. The sausage was ok but the chips were rotten. Tasted like they were cooked in dirty fat and left an unpleasant taste. We both threw most of our chips away. Spent next couple of hours feeling queasy and trying to get the taste out of our system. How can a fish n chip shop fail to cook edible chips is beyond me. One person running it and he looked a bit unclean. We made a huge mistake choosing this place on a Friday night. It was empty whereas the nearby chinese was full so maybe we should have guessed!

This is the best in town for sure.This family have owned and run this chip shop for 20 years and believe me their the best in town.There chips are Crispy and tasty also try the cod.Fish cakes always a winner and pukka pies available.Yummy peas and curry sauce all around lush yummy food

Freshly cooked fish and chips from the local chippy.. The staff are friendly and very accommodating. The fish portion size isn't huge and the cost is pretty standard for Torbay prices - You do get a lot of chips for your money. Very popular all year and particularly in the summer time when we've seen busy queues and the food runs out!

Great food and good value. You know it's good when the que is out the door on a Saturday night. I'm sure I 'll be back again next time we visit torbay.

Called in for Fish and Chips last night while on a break at Goodrington and I must say what a good call The cod was excellent cooked perfect with lovely crispy batter and the chips were also excellent served by friendly pleasant staff Much beter than the ones at resturaunt in Paignton well done guys will be back next time at Goodrington

Yuck food we had our tea here cheese burger and fish and chips, the cheese burger was very dry and taste cheap the fish was yuck tastless never again as wasted money here!!

We purchased some food on Thursday 8th and it was gorgeous. The cod was lovely and the chips were crunchy.

We were a little concerned about some of the reviews but as this was the closest fish and chip shop to our accommodation we thought we'd risk it. I'm so glad we did. The food was freshly cooked, the cod and chips was excellent. The batter was crispy - in fact some of the nicest batter I've had.

On the beach family having fun I used to nip up to the chip shop for a family treat they did battered chips first time i ever tried them absolutely lovely all cooked fresh to order great prices to wether you order just chips or a family meal everything is made fresh well worth a visit.

After a day shopping at Torquay and Piagnton we decided to stop as we were passing on the way home (just moved to Dartmouth) So glad we did. Fish was great although could have done with a little longer to drain, lovely curry sauce all be it a bit salty. But the Chips with a smattering of Batter on them - wow Sooo nice and crispy. Probably the best I have had in a chippy. We will be back

Fish was excellent , and the batter was crispy , all the grandkids said there fish cakes and batterd sausages , were fantastic.

The staff here are polite and the location is good if you're calling in for a take-away.But that's where the good things stop...This place isn't clean: your feet stick to the floor, the walls look dirty - and there's rust or dirt on the bottom of the heated shelving where the cooked food is kept. Nothing looks well cared for or clean - even the sign advertising the menu didn't light up properly.The food was greasy. The batter on the fish went soggy and melted onto the chips. Sadly, it all went into the bin after just a few bites.After I stood waiting for my order and looked around, I knew it wasn't going to be good. It wasn't.And it isn't cheap. In today's world, and with the competition around, this place really should try harder.

service was ok but the chips were all mashed together like they had tried to cook them in warm oil not hot oil total waste of money and very disappointed!

Went here last night with a take away order for 14. They got the order right first time. Gave us a bottle of vinegar and a tub of salt because that was easier than trying to work out who wanted what on their order. Portions are really large, especially the chips so I would recommend going for the small portions or sharing a medium between two people. Whole order was done in less than 20 minutes and we watched the fish being battered and cooked to order so really first class.

We stopped here on our way back to our caravan for fish & chips.I had 2 x fish & chips and there was a bit of a wait but the fish was being cooked fresh. The portion sizes are big as well.Lovely fish & chips

This place is the best fish and chips in Paignton BUT unfortunately the staff are unorganised.Me and my husband waited around 25 minuets for one bag of chips!!As they do it order by order,Which is fine but surly if it's only one bag of chips you could bag this up in like seconds !!!Shame really I tenner when it used to be quick friendly service. Anyway great food .....

We have had cod and chips from this chip shop many times, it is always freshly cooked when you place your order, the chips are a beautiful golden brown as chips should be the fish and chips are so delicious,well worth the wait

As a family we visit Paignton about twice a year for the last 4-5 years. We have always had amazing fish and chips here at Frying Scotsman and look forward to it every time we visit. We went today and had 2xlarge cod and chips with curry sauce, it was the best fish and chips ever and huge!

Visited many times in the past food very good. But this time think new people have taken over .ordered chicken and chips .waited at least twenty minutes wish we hadn't. The chicken was overcooked to the point of being uneatable chips were soggy .will never visit here again . Waste of money
