Fryers Fish & Chips in Plymouth

two lovely staff who made excellent Chinese and fish and chips for my family tonight. The fish was juicy with a crispy coat (even when we drove 20 mins home), the chips weren't soggy and soft on the inside. plus we also love Chinese food so was convenient to order at, everything we order from black-bean to sweet and sour chicken balls were so flavoursome. so yummy definitely will order again !

I've visited this chip shop many times and have always received a warm welcome and fantastic food. Everything I've had has always been cooked fresh and with great quality. I've sampled fish and chips at most places in Plymouth and I can say with confidence this place is the best bar none. I've since moved across the other side of Plymouth but will still travel here to get my fish and chip supper because its that good! Keep doing what you do guys, see you soon!

Thank the lord this place now has new owners. Now you get a genuinely friendly welcome as well as an improved menu! I had a great haddock and chips all beautifully cooked. Good portion size too. Will definitely be back to sample the Chinese offerings too. If you, like me (and anyone I know!) have been put off going because of the truly dreadful previous owners - then give it a go. They’re open 7 days a week now and some lunchtimes. Definitely recommended!

So glad this fish and chip shop reopened. The fish is sourced from the local fish market, so is fresh that day. The fish and the chips are lovely. The staff friendly and the card machine is still available so you can pay contactless.

Staff are an utter disgrace bit like the food go somewhere else hell old chips from the bin & an argument with a drunk would be more enjoyable.

Extremely brusque and rude, not just the serving staff but the passive aggressive notes on the menu and throughout the shop. The food itself is OK, standard fish and chip fayre, cannot complain about that. But the customer is always wrong and the complete lack of basic human warmth has put me off ever returning. It's like they don't actually want your money! I look forward to the sarcastic and aggressive reply that negative comments posted here seem to generate in the owners, as this provides further proof that your custom is much better directed elsewhere.

Only recently moved to the area. Myself and my 6 year old grandson walked down to get some fish and chips. Female server insisted that I should leave him outside. Asked if she could take my order from the door and she replied no even though she was talking to me. She was very rude and didn't seem to care that she wanted me to leave a 6 year old outside! It says 2 people in shop, doesn't a child count as a person!! Left and went elsewhere!!

It's the first time I've been back to Fryer's since the social distancing stuff came in and I was sad to see that they'd placed a large sign containing the main items on top of the frier thereby making the shop seem much smaller as well as preventing you from seeing or speaking to the person that is cooking your food. On top of that they had installed this perspex screens covering the area next to the screen leaving only a small hole so you can pay. It was like I was visiting a convict in jail. I thought the owners might have been disappointed at having to introduce such measures but they were happy about them. They felt safer they said. This is the normal they tell me and it that's true I shall stop visiting my local chippy. I'd rather eat at home. The lady behind the counter (the co owner I presume) seemed moody when I got into the shop and wasn't particularly friendly. I didn't help matters when I started questioning why people would want to put perspex barriers and avoid contact with people. I live in hope that the owners of this establishment stop living in fear, break free of the programming and start being a proper chippy again. What will probably happen is that impersonal. perspex filled, soulless chippies will be the new normal chippies and that is a very sad thing. Excellent food though. As always. Lovely chips. Great crunch to them !

This is my second review, the previous one about eighteen months ago.The standards Jimare as high as ever with outstanding service and quality cooked fish and chips with light golden crispy batter to die for, alongside fluffy crunchy mouth watering chips.I would also like to add the strict levels of hygiene that the shop practises are second to none. We came to Plymouth for my sons graduation and rented a flat we did not want to cook so we went to fryers it was really excellent fresh fish yummy batter and crispy fries. Thank you for a brilliant end to a perfect day would recommend 100% .

I have been going to this great Fish & chip shop for 4 years-Hayley & her husband work hard to provide great quality food at a fair price for the people of Plymouth. I am happy to say I have NEVER had a bad experience from Fryers!!! 5/5

This takeaway fish n chip shop has five stars for Hygiene and the owners are friendly and efficient. Disappointingly my piece of Cod tonight was inedible, the batter was slightly uncooked inside as was the fish.Worse still was the greyness of the fish and the awful taste. The cost is £7.00 for Cod and Chips and the fish portion is incredibly generous but that counts for nothing if you can't eat it or enjoy it. Sadly this is my second and last bad experience here. On the previous occasion I drove back to the shop with the fish I had been sold and was met with an angry fish frying owner who said I was the first person in seven years to complain about his food and he gave me a refund.I accepted it must just have been a one off. Two months later and it was exactly the same, grey bad tasting under cooked fish. I should say I have had a fish supper from here about eight times in the last year and the first six experiences were awesome which is why I went back so many times. I am sorry to leave such negative comments but the fish really was awful and I didn't want to bring it back to the shop a second time as you were none too gracious first time around when i complained.

Literally the best Fish & Chips I have ever had. Just moved to the area and have just had our second meal from here and it lived up to the high standards set by the first visit. Everything fresh and cooked to order and tastes amazing.

Went to get fish and chips for my child, but this fish and chip shop doesn't do a children's portion (in a fish and chip shop). Absolutely stupid. I than agreed to a small portion of fish and chips and looked at my daughter in disbelief, looked back at the extremely rude server to be told to get out and go elsewhere. I apologised and said I still wanted it (even though its over priced). I got told to leave, good luck on your business attitude, i will be telling everyone how rude and how you clearly don't need the business

Went down with £6 in the hope to get fish and a standard portion of chips which I wasn't able to do due to to high price of fish. It came to £6.75. Instead I bought fish cake and chips,some of the chips I found were a little hard but most are perfectly fine. The fish cake was the most expensive I have ever had at £1.80 and tasted near enough the same as cheaper ones. Overall okay but you can definitely get a nicer meal for cheaper at another chippy.

Without doubt the best fish and chip shop in Plymouth, cooked to order pearly white fresh fish with a crisp light golden batter along with crisp and dry fantastic chips, the portions are very generous and worth every penny. I am weekly customer and would not dream of going elsewhere for my weekly fish supper, so it's a ten out of ten from me.

Best chippy around. Been using Friars for a number of years now, never been let down. Always freshly cooked, so always worth the wait!! Friendly owners..Always greeted with a big hello.

Fryers Fish and Chips is a small shop, just next door to the Palladium hardware store on St. Levan's road. They only do take away food and cook to order, so that everything is fresh.

This has always been one of my favourite chippy's, and I've recommended it to family and friends many times.

A group of us went tonight at about 7ish pm and it was shut. It's advertised as being open until 8 o'clock. We were really annoyed , to say the least. Luckily, one of our group suggested Francines, which was superb.

food is good but very unreliable with opening hours. Often visit to find it is shut when meant to be open. Usually one in three times I visit I maybe lucky enough to find it open

One of the best chip shops I've ever been to! My son is a fussy eater and adores their chicken nuggets! Chips are freshly cooked as is all the food and are delicious.

Fish and chips delicious. Best in town by a country mile - Cooked fresh to order BUT the co owner (lady) has yet to smile once in all my visits (Feel like I'm an intruder not a wage payer) and I wish the fish was de-skinned.

Been here regularly on a Friday as fish'n'chips is the law in my house. The fish is cooked to order and tastes great. Friendly people that run it and make you feel welcome too.

Amazing fish and chips, crispy batter all order fried as you enter so not left in the heat shelf. Spotlessly clean and loved the information provided of what boat the fish came in on, name of the potato used that day. Friendly polite efficient staff, vinegar 1st then the salt the correct way no need for prompting on that. Well wrapped food that did not stick to top of paper. Childrens meal deals excellent value. Fish huge one piece enough for two persons, great price. Will be eating from here again.

The quality and portions of the food is good and so is value. Kids box comes with a toy(which are stickers) which was a little disappointing. Kids portion was good.My problem and which is likely to put me off returning. The woman serving was very rude and I did almost leave before even ordering due to the way she was spoke to me. I wanted to check I had enough money for what I wanted and I was stared through while she decided to speak to the person behind me. She is clearly happy to loose customers. My quandary is are they that much better I put up with the down right crap attitude of one individual which was infuriating or go to the next fish and chips the same distance in a different direction who are very welcoming of my custom.

I have never been spoken to in such a rude and threstening manner, the owner ranted about ALL his customers and their observations on the opening and closing hours and holiday, the owner of this business does not value his customers who provide his living, i would not reccomend this chippie to anyone.

I have been to this fish and chip shop a couple of times now and the food has always been excellent. Everywhere is also spotlessly clean.However the female owner is NEVER polite to the point of being RUDE and seems to have a problem with female customers. Men are fine she happily talks and laughs with them.If it wasn't for the fact the male owner is always a jolly chap and the food great I would have chosen not to return.

As soon as you walk in to the spotlessly clean chippy you know your in the right place,you will also be greeted with a friendly hello-every customer receives.The whole feeling is of a well run fast ,efficient operation that produces great valuetasty food that you look forward to every time!

I visited this chip shop after a 3 hour drive down the M5 and although I got in just before closing my food was cooked fresh and tasted delicious! The shop was 6 miles from where I was staying which says it all as I had to pass numerous shops to get there but knew I would get lovely fresh food!

A* every time, we've never been disappointed. The premises is always immaculate, the staff are friendly and welcoming. I've had food from here about 7 times now and it's always fresh and delicious. Very good value, wouldn't go anywhere else.

Friendly and reasonably cooked and priced. OK if you can stop if passing through or if you live close by. Nothing out of the ordinary.
