Drakes Plaice Fish and Chips in Plymouth

Very poor service. Almost 2 hours for delivery. Rude staff putting phone down when called to find out where food was for the second time. Food below expectations, dry pie, soggy chips cold sausage.

Best chippy in Plymouth, and it’s not an overstatement. Amazing fish and chips. Amazing prices. Amazing overall.

The best chippy in Plymouth with really great prices, a cod, chips and a sauce for under £10! I travel from Plympton to this chippy because no other will compare. Food is 10/10, if you’re thinking of trying, do it! You won’t be disappointed.

Have Drakes plaice changed hands as we always use this shop, but Saturday we ordered from here and wasn't happy with the fish or the gravy. The batter was too over cooked so was hard and the fish was dried out. The gravy was way to thick. The cost was alot too as everywhere. I will give the shop another try some time and if its the same I will be going elsewhere I think

New manager, chips were lovely sausages and curry sauce I really liked. Will use them again

My first visit since new management. Only had chips on this occasion but they were superb. I was so impressed that I phoned up later on to give praise. Unfortunately I almost gave the lady a heart attack as she thought I was ringing to complain. Looking forward to trying the fish soon.

Absolutely 💯 amazing tasted so fresh and wow chips were delicious. The battered burger and sausage was utterly yummy and curry sauce just topped it all off. Friendly staff and cooked amazingly delicious. Thank you so much.

Great food and the portions are good value for money. Very friendly staff and fish cooked to order. Food has improved since new owners who are very approachable and welcoming. Fast service and food was very hot after driving home 10 minutes later. Will definitely be returning 😀👍🏽

Was my local a few years ago and stopped going because it started going downhill, thought to try again after hearing there was new owners now, and it's leaps and bounds better, great food, great service and quick as well, would definitely recommend

Best Fish n Chips in the city by a mile!! Good prices too. Kids loved it. Will go back. Highly recommended and delivery was really quick.

Worst chippy, recooked tasteless soggy chips, fish was cold in the middle and looked raw. Sausages looked like yesterday's and cold. Batter was so crispy it was burnt. Curry sauce bike and mushy peas if that's what they were disgusting. Customer service shocking!! Very rude!

I love this chip shop, the staff are friendly and welcoming, the fish was perfectly cooked with batter to die for- not too thick or too thin and large chips big enough for two to share easily.

Laurel and hardy behind the counter are stupidly boring... massively greasy dark brown chips followed by burnish tasteless frozen cod.. inedible without graveyard, and even then it met my worst expectations... dreadful dreadful experience and total waste of my time and money... the very WORST CHIP SHOP EVER......

I used to be a regular customer at Drakes plaice for several years, the chips were great and the battered sausage was amazing. sadly over recent months ive seen a real drop in standards especially now they are affiliated with just eat. Chips are slightly undercooked and on my last visit they clearly had put an already cooked sausage out of the heater, dipped it in a batter and served it as freshly cooked. the oil caked batter just fell off the sausage. I paid nearly 6 quid and binned most of it.

Sister ordered through deliveroo, 2 hours later and the food still didn't arrive. Tried calling 3 times but no answer. Shockingly bad service!

Food has drastically gone downhill would recommend the chippy on the square st budeaux

Cold sausage, all the sauce’s was cold (2min travel). Small portions, lack of quality control at this place. Will not be ordering from here again

OMG!!!!! We love this chippie. Very extensive menu. Freshly cooked while you wait. Enormous portion sizes. The fish is amazing with incredibly crispy batter. Sells my favourite as well..spam fritters.

Just had the chilli special and it was amazing, properly home made chilli and so full of flavour so I will be having that again 👍 Good service, good staff and good value 10 out of 10 😁

First time I have been here and have to say it will be my last. I ordered Jumbo battered sausage and a large portion of chips. Payed just over £5 which compared to other places wasn't too bad. The sausage was very good and the batter was crispy enough, however, the chips were awful. There were a few that had a really perculuar taste whilst the rest had no taste whatsoever. They looked like they were yesterday's chips that had gone cold and then thrown back in the fryer to cook through again. Not very pleasant at all. Staff were friendly enough.

Had large cod and chips. Cod was ok but not large, it was a normal size, batter was crispy. Chips were cooked but anaemic looking, not crispy, and they were tasteless. Could have done with a few more minutes in the fryer. Would not order again

I went in after a dog walk with my partner. The staff were so friendly and even offered my dog a sausage. I didn’t realise the time and they were actually closing!! The lady was so kind and I didn’t feel rushed or I annoyed them, which you can sometimes get if a customer comes in on closing! (I know I worked in fast food!) The food was great and fresh!! Prices shot up and portions got smaller, attached is a 'large' portion of chips which took over 45 minutes to be delivered

First time ordering from this place however they seems very disorganised and I was very dissapointed we only order cheesy chips and the chips were still raw and uncooked .. wouldn't recommend and won't order again

Ordered a large portion of cod and chips with small curry sauce came to £15, not bothered about the price but what came is poor very poor and I won't be going back, a handful of chips were edible the rest thrown and the fish was definitely not a large.

Fish was just passable the day I went, I'd been to Looe and got off the train at ferry Rd and could smell the food------I was a bit disappointed

Bit disappointed on how the price has rapidly increased by over 30% on everything...burger wasn’t great cold wen I got home which is 100 yards away plus the salad inside was all cut into small tiny squares. Then to be told all the ingredients have gone up in price wen all the other shops haven’t had there menus increased in price is abit wrong to think ive had the wool pulled over my eyes. Someone’s got a little greedy I think 🤔🤔🤔

Sloppy fish and cold dry chips! Ordered 2 x specials, cod chips and mushy peas. The fish was in the heater so no idea how long it had sat there. When we got home (2 minutes drive) the fish batter was sloppy and the batter was dark brown, horrible. In places there was no batter covering the fish. The chips were dry and tepid scraps. I've had fish and chips from Drakes Plaice loads of times and feel totally let down by their quality. Hopefully this is a one off. Next time I'll ask fir the fish to be freshly cooked.

This was my first order with drakes plaice, my husband and son's fish and chips were lovely, my chicken curry and chips was much less than ordered so I called them and they sent me a another portion so quickly and free of charge which you don't get very often from Plymouth takeaways, and to top it off, the chicken curry is very tasty, definitely will be ordering from there again xx

Arrived with packaging dripping with fat everything was saturated. The chips weren't cooked enough and tasteless, the fish was crispy on the top and saturated with fat on the bottom and tasteless. Absolutely disgusting, first and last time I will be ordering from this shop.

Been using this place for months , always been very good , unfortunately to night when our order arrived it was wrong , took ages to get through on the phone and when they did eventually answer they hung up , completely ruined our tea , will not be using again .

We had Fish and Cheesy Chips... I know, weird. Perfection! I couldn't recommend enough. Everything was cooked perfectly. Also had a cheese burger that was amazing. Top marks. Also, sorry again for walking my dirty boots across your freshly cleaned floor :)

Can not praise Drakes Plaice enough, spot on delivery, piping hot, immaculate chicken, fish, chips in abundance, tasty curry sauce and lovely mushy peas. Higjly recommend.

Got food, it was cold. Got free food for compensation and it was mouldy, greasy and cold

Used this place many times but it has massively gone downhill. I ordered food at 4.10pm for delivery at 4.55pm. Food arrived cold at 5.05pm, rang and offered a replacement order, I was told they were busy so it would take a while to deliver. 6.15 food is delivered for the second time, (by now my kids are complaining of feeling sick from being hungry) and yet again it was cold! The sausages were freezing, the fish was literally swimming in grease, the chips were wrinkled and funny coloured and tasted awful, the curry sauce was upside down in a polystyrene cup and again it was freezing!! We won't be ordering from here again, extremely disappointed.

Cheesy chips were skimpy like a half portion was luke warm we normally order are regular customers this time round a bit disappointed. As I eat it I realise dripping with grease my mouth tastes like oil couldnt finsh it

The only reason I have given a 1 star to this chippy is because there isn't a zero on here The food was pretty much cold when it got to us i ordered 2 large chips and got 2 small portions and when I called them to complain they said they had 3 orders to deliver before they could send another order to us and expected me to repack the first order so the driver could take it back to the shop Will be very very reluctant to go to this chippy again

once again i thought id give them another go kebab was about 3 long pices hard to think dry and pita bread hard as rock ,,, cant faulght chips but thats twice donar meat was bloody awfull

Ordered a take away tonight for my family it took 90 mins to arrive phone up after an hour to ask where it was they said it had just left 30 mins later it arrived stone cold not the order we had placed phoned up to ask for a refund and was told they couldn’t do it as the owner wasn’t around they could re make our order at this point it was my children’s bed time I was told to call back when the owner was there we have had great food in the past but tonight it’s the worst deliver we have ever order from anywhere in Plymouth not happy what so ever was ment to be a large mixed kebab large chips just look at the state of it the savoly was stone cold cheese chips were small and cold

Food was adequate, however service and delivery were poor. When calling the restaurant to see where the order was, the lady was rude and said she would charge double next time as delivery was already attempted. This was not the case. Will not be ordering again.

So we had in our order 2x regular cod and chips we only received 1 cod and chips... rang the restaurant the woman admitted a mistake had been made and the order would be sent out. 30mins later we rang up a man answered the phone saying the order had been sent out and we were liars!!! Complaint is now being looked at by trading standards as this shambles of a shop have had multiple complaints of food not turning up but being charged for it... avoid at all costs if you want to get what you ordered

The food in this place is abdaloutely vile, pure white chips, fish batter was all soggy actually felt like wet paper, also didn't get some of the food I ordered I was then told the delivery driver gave the refund to the lady who answered the door when it was in fact a MAN who answered the door and was not given any refund. They also remove all negative reviews from websites such as food hub, again DISGUSTING VILE food.

The food was not only incredibly late but over cooked and greasy as anything! When I called to say they had missed an item I got a horrible attitude, everything was covered in black bits and did NOT taste fresh at all! Will never be eating here again!

Still doing collections and deliveries during the lockdown by only allowing 2 customers in the shop and then wait outside whilst order is freshly cooked.Owner and staff very friendly. always large portions especially the onion rings which are the biggest I have ever eaten

Convenient parking and friendly welcome however thats almost the ends to the positives for this chippy. We made a large order and the shop wasn't busy, while we waited I had a good chance to look around the place. Now if it wasn't for the greasy counter I wouldn't of started to look around more, but I did and wished I didn't. The order came out correct and for the amount we had it was a fair price. Except no one liked the food, it was grazed on at best. Chips had a strange taste, probably really old oil. Sausages had the consistency of a hotdog sausage. However the fish was wonderful, good size great taste. Saved this review from a 1 star. Fair price, but we won't be returning

Not as good as it used to be. New owners,new cooking methods and stock purchase. Chips warm and overcooked due to keeping warm,fish had old oil taste to it. Old oil tasting fish and chips is not good. Sadly I won't be visiting anytime soon.

Since being taken over the food standard has dropped. I hope they start to get back up to the previous owners high standard soon ! Update. I decided to try again as it's my local chippy to see if it's any better. We ordered 1 large cod and 1 normal cod. The portion size has diminished considerably. I questioned this with the server and was told that it was now sorted by weight. Both served portions were kiddie sized....

When I feel the need for a fish and chip supper this is where I go. Just your basic, good old chippy. Staff are friendly and always greet you on entry and say goodbye. Which is a small but significant detail for me because it’s an often missing bit of old fashioned hospitality. Meals are always cooked to order, so always hot and fresh. Portions are very generous and prices are priced for the average family. They have a great selection of foods other than fish, something usually missing from your modern chippy. Items like faggots, battered burgers, corned beef fritters and the likes. It may look a little tatty, but a closer look will show you a clean, well looked after interior. Fish and chips are always great, well cooked and never greasy.

i once had your kewbabs about 2 yrs agfo which were shocking tased like plastic ,, now all this time later thought id chance it again meat was soon to go cold and cut too bloody think tatsed like plastic yet again yuk
