Fryer Tucks in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Been coming here for a while. Local, and always had great Cod & Chips until today. Where 3 of us ordered and paid for Cod & Chips but given Hake. Which is a cheap cut of fish. Really disappointed and not very nice. Be a while before we return where we will make sure on ordering we get what we pay for. Check your getting what you pay for!

Over priced cod and chips at £13. The cod was very small and average tasting. The chips were also average and the portion quite small for £13. I had a battered sausage at £1.95, Curry sauce similar price and a small portion of chips at £4.00. Tasty curry sauce but in conclusion I won’t be be revisiting.

I feel that I have been ripped off today by this chippy!! The worst fish and chips I have ever tasted. They were so bad I threw them away and ended up making myself a bacon and egg sandwich!!!!! I was charged £30 for 2 x fish and chips and a portion of chips. The fish was so small I asked the person serving me if it was a mini fish, she just laughed at me. I got the food back and served it up. The chips were greasy and tasteless , and the fish was disgusting and tasted like a cheap frozen fillet. The batter on the fish was thick and soggy and tasted horrible. I would have scored a zero if the review form allowed. I would absolutely avoid this place.

I had the cod and chips. The chips were lovely, not greasy at all. This cod had a thin crispy batter and was perfectly cooked fish. I would highly recommend.

Two takeaway portions of fish and chips cost £23, and the batter on both portions was badly undercooked and inedibly flabby. Will not return. We were the only people waiting to be served, so no 'busy' excuse. Just hurried cooking.

We had 4 cod and chips, 2 place and chips. Crispy batter and chips. All order only taken on site , cooked to order in front of you. I can only assume the bad reviews are down to transportation and the food being steamed on the journey. We thought this was amazing. Considering where we are (in Cornwall) fish and chips should be good, and this did not disappoint!

Well this surely would win worst chips ever award. Hard and chewy with no colour to the chips. There was a wierd taste which I cannot describe other than WTF is that taste. Price was expensive for a pitiful tray. Will not be going back and would advise anyone else to try other local establishments over this. We threw ours in the bin

Worst chips I’ve ever had so crunchie not fluffy at all so disappointed, we have been coming here for years now and would rather drive to Jon’s in Wadebridge there fish and chips are excellent and a lot cheaper, dont waste your money 😢

The worst chips we’ve had - cold, hard, pale and strange tasting (almost bitter). Fish was ok, but obviously had been frozen, but at least the batter was crispy. We had a takeaway after a day at the beach. We ate it because we were hungry, but not all the chips. A shame as being at the coast you would expect excellent and fresh fish on a Friday. Considering they only serve potatoes as chips you would also expect them to have mastered the art of cooking them! On the plus side - plenty of staff and fast service.

How bad can it get ? So sad. Fish was obviously old , no flavour whatsoever. Frozen for how long ? Chips undercooked. I assume a cornered market so no desire to change.

We went and had the cod fish and chips for the whole family. It was super hot and freshly cooked. Crispy batter not a soggy piece in sight. Lovely chips. Not sure why this place has had some bad reviews as it was all lovely.

What a miserable experience. This used to be a reliable provider of quality fish and chips but something has crashed. No, everything has crashed. Raw batter, slim pickings of fish and cold undercooked chips. I don’t usually post reviews but I do this in hope that lessons can be learned and quality restored.

Went for take away but was very disappointed. Food was poor and didn’t taste very nice. Have been coming here for many years but it has deteriorated so much that I’m afraid I won’t be returning.

basically dreadful fish and chips were staying at mother ivys bay for a few nights and decided as this was close by in st merryn we would give it a try had read the previous reviews but were not good and warning potential customers to go elsewhere well i should have listened on entering it was empty 7.00pm the guy fried the fish in a couple of minutes looked ok when the girl was wrapping when we got back to the site it was not good at all the batter was soggy not cooked properly( the batter was too thick when applied and the fryer could not have been hot enough ) chips were cold and hard not good at a ll dont waste your money take note of the reviews and go elsewhere basically waste of money for rubbish no care taken to cook properly

The fish and chips were awful and very expensive compared to others in the area. The fish was barely 1cm thick and completely tasteless. The chips were dry and also tasteless. Avoid if you don't want to waste £20 on 2 fish & large chips!

Really good fish and chips and excellent value too. No idea why this hadn't got a better rating as deserves to be rated more highly

We bought ten portions of chips to enjoy back at our nearby holiday house. All eaten and very good.

Worst fish n chips I’ve had in ages. Feeling extra greasy now and sort of unfulfilled! Fish not very big (but wouldn’t mind that if it was nice). I think chips had sat there for ages - bad sort of crispy. Shame as used to be ok.

Staff, many and friendly. Fish and chips disappointing. Chips soggy. One piece of fish average to small in size, the other piece tiny! All batter, more fish in 4 fish fingers. £24 Wont be rushing back.

Ok so I left a review a couple of years ago. Which was a very bad one and the food was awful... I am happy to report that I have just finished a cod and chips from them and it was great. I'm so happy that it has turn around. Definitely coming back next year.

Well. I was definitely impressed! We hadn’t eaten here for many years opting for fish n chips in an ever busy Padstow. But you’re fish n chips definitely topped the bill for our last night’s holiday. Hubbies picked them up and said service was quick friendly and well organised! Meals were good. Chips nicely cooked and a good chunky piece of cod in crunchy batter. We’ll be back👍 glad we came back!

Excellent fish and chips I live in Padstow I tried chip ahoy in padstow and the gush was non existent told to try this place and it was just perfect great staff and excellent fish.

One of the worst chips I have had. Dark brown disgusting and greasy. Will not return. A lot of money to pay for something I couldn't eat.Cod was ok.

We had fish and chips for seven people for an evening take away. It was good value and the service was efficient and friendly. The fish was really tasty with good crispy batter - not soggy at all. The chips were a large portion and were fresh, hot and very nice. We also had curry sauce which was great and mushy peas which were delicious. Portion size on everything is generous - I would actually say the only downside was you can't have just fish, you had to have chips with it. This meant we ended up with too many chips.

The fish and chips were a disappointment. The chips were dry and hard as was the batter on the fish. We have used this takeaway many times on our visits to Cornwall and enjoyed our fish and chips from there - but something has gone wrong this time. Fair to say we won’t be taking a chance again I’m afraid.
